1 Neues im Wintersemester 2015/16 Zum neuen Semester gibt es wieder einige Neuigkeiten: 1) Wir begrüßen Dr. Sabine Hackbarth im Team, die bei uns Mitte Juli als neue Mitverantwortliche für Deutsch als Fremdsprache beginnt. 2) Wir bieten nun neben unserem normalen Einstufungstest auch mehrere offiziell anerkannte Sprachtests an, darunter ondaf, TestAS und TestDaF. Näheres dazu finden Sie auf Seite 16. 3) Als neue Sprache kommt Portugiesisch mit einem B1/B2-Kurs dazu. Wussten Sie übrigens schon dass Sie sich mit unserem normalen Einstufungstest bereits eines unserer Sprachzertifikate oder das DAAD-Zertifikat ausstellen lassen können? Diese sind für viele Institutionen oder Arbeitgeber als Sprachnachweis anerkannt und ersetzen in vielen Fällen die teuren Alternativen. Und das völlig kostenlos (nur für Studenten/Mitarbeiter der UHH). Einen schönen Start ins neue Semester und viel Spaß in unseren Kursen! News Winter Semester 2015/16 There is some good news in the new semester: 1) We are happy to welcome Dr. Sabine Hackbarth as a new member of our team. She is starting as a teacher for German as a Foreign Language in Mid-July. 2) We are also happy to announce that we are now able to offer some of the internationally recognized language tests at our center. At the moment, these are ondaf, TestAS, and TestDaF. You ll find more information on page 16. 3) As a new language we are adding Portuguese to our repertoire with one B1/B2 course. By the way, did you know that you can use our regular placement test to receive one of our language certificates or the DAAD certificate? Many universities or employers accept this as proof of your language proficiency. The free alternative to prove your language level (only for students and employees of the University of Hamburg). Die Kurse sind offen für Studierende und Mitarbeiter der Universität Hamburg. 9 Placement Test To be allowed to register for our courses, you first need to take our placement test (if you have not done so already) or have shown us an official language certificate with the relevant level BEFORE October 12 th (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, TestDaF). Please just be there at the given time. Wenn Sie (noch) keinen STiNE-Account besitzen oder Probleme mit/fragen zu der Anmeldung in STiNE haben, kommen Sie bitte rechtzeitig VOR der Anmeldephase in unsere Sprechstunden. Sie können sich für bis zu 5 Kurse anmelden, sofern Sie diese auch tatsächlich besuchen möchten. Wenn Sie aus einem bestimmten Grund mehr Kurse machen möchten/müssen, melden Sie sich bitte bei uns. 11 Registration You can only register for our courses via STiNE. Please do not send us requests. Those cannot be accepted. If you do not (yet) have a STiNE account or need help with/ have questions about registration via STiNE, please come to us BEFORE the registration phases begin. 13 Kursarten (Course Types Explained) Interaktive Vorlesungen Um die Ressourcen am effektivsten nutzen zu können, finden diese Vorlesungen in Gruppen mit bis zu 80 Teilnehmern statt. Der interaktive Charakter bleibt gleichwohl erhalten. Die Studierenden erhalten sowohl die Möglichkeiten Fragen zu stellen, als auch Diskussionen zu führen und Anregungen zu erhalten. The courses entitled "Interaktive Vorlesung" have about twice as many participants as our normal courses. While the course might thus be a bit more like a lecture, there will be enough opportunity for you to practice and to participate. Blended Learning Blended Learning bietet den Studierenden große Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten. Die Präsenzveranstaltungen finden im Zweiwochen-Rhythmus statt in der jeweils anderen Woche sind Sie gefordert, das kommende Seminar eigenständig vorzubereiten. Blended Learning courses take place only bi-weekly; in the sessions between you will be given material and tasks to prepare for the upcoming lesson. Semi-Intensiv Die Semi-Intensiven Vorlesungen finden überwiegend in der ersten Hälfte des Semesters statt; hier allerdings in intensivierter Form in wöchentlichen 3-Stunden-Blocks. Sie erhalten somit die gleiche Anzahl Credit-Points wie bei normalen Vorlesungen. Semi-intensive courses are taught in blocks of 3 hours per week and are thus taught in less weeks than the normal courses while you will receive the same number of credits. Intensiv-Kurse Die Intensiv-Kurse werden kompakt vor Beginn der Vorlesungszeit angeboten. Die Kursinhalte werden in einwöchigen Kursen mit ca. 5-6 Stunden pro Tag abgehalten. Dadurch können Sie eine Woche lang ganz intensiv Ihre Sprachkenntnisse verbessern. We offer intensive courses before the start of the lecture period. Each course takes one week where you will have class 5-6 hours every day from Monday to Friday. 13

14 Sprachniveaus - A1, A2, B1 Was ist das überhaupt? Diese Sprachniveaus basieren auf einem Standard des Gemeinsamen europäischen Referenzrahmens für Sprachen (kurz GeR), der u.a. die Sprachkompetenzen eines Nichtmuttersprachlers in der Zweitsprache beschreibt. Dieser Standard wurde vom Europarat zur Herstellung einer gemeinsamen Basis für die Entwicklung von Lehrplänen, curricularen Richtlinien, Lehrwerken und Qualifikationsnachweisen in der Spracharbeit entwickelt und ermöglicht deren intersprachliche Vergleichbarkeit. Die Sprachniveaus in Kürze: A1 Anfänger, keine oder kaum Vorkenntnisse, kennt nur einzelne Wörter/Begriffe A2 B1 B2 C1 C2 Fortgeschrittene Anfänger, können sich in einfachen Situationen verständlich machen Untere Mittelstufe, kann bei einfacher Sprache die Kernaussagen verstehen und sich in bekannten Situationen verständlich ausdrücken Obere Mittelstufe, hat ein gutes Grundverständnis auch von komplexerer Sprache und kann ohne große Mühe auf beiden Seiten mit Muttersprachlern sprechen Fortgeschrittene Kenntnisse, kann die Sprache fließend Sprechen, sogar bei komplexeren Situationen oder Themen Muttersprachliche Kompetenz, versteht ohne Probleme anspruchsvolle Informationen und kann sich flüssig und präzise ausdrücken Das Sprachenzentrum nutzt diesen Standard, um Ihr Sprachniveau einzustufen. Sie dürfen nur Kurse besuchen, die in Ihrem erreichten Sprachniveau (oder darunter) liegen (z.b. Sie haben B2, dann dürfen Sie B2 und falls gewünscht auch B1 besuchen, jedoch nicht C1). Um an unseren Kursen teilnehmen zu können, müssen Sie uns Ihr Niveau EINMALIG nachweisen. Wie weise ich mein Niveau beim SZ nach? VOR der Anmeldung: 1) entweder an unserem Einstufungstest teilnehmen; 2) uns ein offizielles Sprachzertifikat vorzeigen, das Sie bekommen haben. Wir akzeptieren: TOEFL, TOEIC, TELC, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, UNICert, TestDaF, TestAS, DSH, DELF, DELE, CILS, CELI sowie Nachweise anderer Sprachkurse/-einrichtungen an der Universität Hamburg. 14

15 Language Levels - A1, A2, B1 What s That, Anyway? These language levels are a standard of the Common European Framework of Reference (short CEFR) to describe the level of proficiency learners of foreign languages have gained in their L2 (non-native language). The standard was developed by the European Council to provide a method of learning, teaching, and assessing which applies to all languages in Europe. In short: A1 Beginners, are able to form easy sentences and convey some basic information A2 B1 B2 C1 C2 Advanced Beginners, are able to make themselves understood in exchanging information Lower Intermediate, can understand the main ideas if language is used clearly and can communicate coherently in familiar situations Upper Intermediate, has a good basic understanding of even more complex language and can speak with native speakers without undue efforts on either side Advanced speakers, can speak and understand the language quite fluently, even concerning more complex topics Near-native competence, understand demanding information without difficulty and can express themselves fluently and precisely The SZ uses this standard to assess your language level. You may only take courses on your level (or below) (e.g. you have B2, so you can go to B2 classes and if you like B1, but not C1). The levels are not suggestions, but a must-have requirement. You thus need to prove to us that you have the required course level. How Can I Prove My Language Level to Join Courses? BEFORE registering: 1) either take our placement test, or 2) show us an official language certificate that you ve received. We accept: TOEFL, TOEIC, TELC, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, UNICert, TestDaF, TestAS, DSH, DELF, DELE, CILS, CELI as well as certification from other language-teaching departments of the University of Hamburg. 15

Der Test wird in unserem Selbstlernzentrum am PC durchgeführt. Geeignet als Sprachnachweise für Kurse, Bewerbungen und Einschätzung der eigenen Sprachkenntnisse. Weitere Informationen und Beispieltests unter Studierfähigkeit prüft. Besteht aus 3 Teilen: OnScreen Test (Sprachtest DaF od. Englisch) Kerntest Fachmodultest (4 Möglichkeiten: 1) Geisteswiss.; 2) Ingenieurwiss.; 3) MIN; 4) Wirtschaftswiss. An der Universität Hamburg existiert ein Bonuspunktesystem, bei dem sich ein gut abgeschlossener TestAS positiv auf das Einschreibeverfahren auswirkt. Teilnehmer mit bereits guten Vorkenntnissen der deutschen Sprache (B2-C1). Geeignet für den Nachweis von Sprachkenntnissen für die Studienbewerbung an deutschen Hochschulen, Sprachnachweis für den Beruf. Außerdem möchten wir zukünftig den DSH und TOEFL anbieten, hier sind wir jedoch noch in der Planung. 16

We are also working on being able to offer the DSH and TOEFL test but that is still in the planning phase. 17

18 Module - Brückenkurse Oft ist der Wissensstand der Studierenden in den Bereichen Sprechen und Hörverständnis oder Grammatik und Schreiben sehr unterschiedlich. Die Brückenkurse dienen dazu, den Kenntnisstand auf ein einheitliches Niveau zu bringen und sind somit eine hilfreiche Vorbereitung auf die Kurse der anderen Module. Damit die Lehrziele der weiteren Module eingehalten werden können, ist es unumgänglich Niveaudifferenzen anzugleichen. - Studium und Sprache Dieses Modul stellt einen engen Bezug zu Studieninhalten her und soll studienbegleitende Fähigkeiten vermitteln. Fallstudien Im Bereich Fallstudien behandeln wir fach-bezogene Studien aus der Praxis und diskutieren dabei sowohl sprachliche als auch fachliche Inhalte, um diese greifbar und in der Praxis anwendbar zu machen. Vokabeltraining Vergrößern Sie Ihren Wortschatz und Ihr aktives Vokabular, um fremdsprachlichen Vorträgen und Literatur in Studium und Privat besser folgen zu können. Bearbeitung von Fachliteratur Wir arbeiten auf ein besseres Verständnis von anspruchsvoller, fachbezogener Literatur hin. Artikel aus Fachzeitschriften und Fachbüchern in fremden Sprachen sind nicht immer leicht zu verstehen, kommen aber immer häufiger in verschiedenen Studiengängen vor.
