Für die Erfassung der Ventilstellungen sind Lösungen im Aufbaugehäuse noch am meisten verbreitet. Ein wichtiger Grund dafür ist sicherlich der Schutz vor Umwelteinflüssen, den das Gehäuse den Sensoren und beweglichen Teilen bietet. Vorteilhaft sind auch die Klemmenleisten und die Möglichkeit, die Ventilansteuerung intern durchzuschleifen. Zudem ist im Aufbaugehäuse ausreichend Platz für die Integration zusätzlicher Komponenten (z. B. Bustechnologie). Lösungen im Aufbaugehäuse haben aber auch gravierende Nachteile.
