Did you know...? that Beijing seeks new private investment to expand subway? Beijing was the first city on the Chinese mainland to build a metro system, and there are now 18 lines covering a total distance of 527 kilometers. The total is scheduled to reach around 1,000 kilometers by 2020 to meet the huge demand from the capital's population of more than 21 million. The expansion should ease traffic congestion and reduce air pollution. The technical and economic performance index, which reflects construction costs, increased to 1 billion yuan ($161 million) per kilometer in 2014 for subway lines in the downtown area, according to figures released by the company. The corresponding figure in 2007 was 571 million yuan. Beijing plans to attract more non-government funds to fuel the rapid expansion of the subway network, the company responsible for providing finance and planning new projects has revealed. There are currently two companies involved in running the capital's network-city-owned Beijing Mass Transit Railway Operation Corp, and Beijing MTR Corp, a publicprivate joint venture with Hong Kong's MTR. 3 The German Embassy and the German Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the German Centre provided information on how and where to apply for business visa to Germany during an information session on March 20. The Deputy Head of the Visa section of the German Embassy Beijing, Patricia van de Water, and Li Nan, representing the Visa Service of the German Chamber of Commerce, highlighted relevant regulations, deadlines and the time needed for an application. Furthermore, they handed out advice for correctly completing the application form. The speakers pointed out common mistakes that may easily lead to a delay or refusal of a visa to Germany. Finally, forthcoming simplifications and new trends for a visa application were elaborated. Mit dem geplanten Gesetz sollen im positiven Sinne insbesondere die Gründung und der Erwerb von Unternehmen in China erheblich vereinfacht und grundlegend modernisiert werden. Eine Genehmigung soll zukünftig nur noch dann notwendig sein, wenn dies ausdrücklich in einer sog. Negativliste festgelegt wurde. Eine ähnliche Praxis wurde bereits in der Shanghai Free Trade Zone von der chinesischen Regierung getestet. Auf der anderen Seite wird der Bereich der regulierten Auslandsaktivitäten durch den Gesetzentwurf deutlich ausgedehnt. Denn zukünftig sollen auch Fälle reguliert werden, in denen ausländische Unternehmen durch rein vertragliche Gestaltungen eine faktische Kontrolle über chinesische Unternehmen ausüben. Darüber hinaus behalten sich die chinesischen Sicherheitsbehörden im Entwurf insgesamt vor, bei angenommener Gefährdung der öffentlichen Sicherheit von Amts wegen eine Unternehmensgründung oder einen Unternehmenserwerb einer
