Lehnhardt) with the subject to work out prognostic factors, evaluation of candidacy, and improvement of indications of inner ear prostheses. During this period I have been working in the Dept. of Experimental Otology and I learned all modern methods of conventional audiometry, neurootology, and auditory evoked potentials incl. E- lectrocochleography. Since 1988 Member of the German Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Sugrery Training in Otorhinolaryngology in the ENT Dept. of the the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (Director: Prof. Dr. Dr. E. Lehnhardt). My scientific interests were clinical subjects such as the etiology of inner ear disease and deafness, audiological topodiagnosis of deafness and the cochlear implants. I introduced the transtympanic electrocochleography and the transtympanic promontory stimulation as a clinical routine and I reported frequently on national and international congresses. I participated in founding the Hannover Cochlear Implant Program with surgical and diagnostic projects such as the evaluation of deafness in uncooperative patients and children and development of objective methods in testing electric stimulation ability of the auditory nerve (objective promontory test, electric ABR). Participation in all educational activities of the ENT Dept. including examination courses for medical students, regional clinical meetings for ENT doctors and in the annual course on clinical audiometry with lectures on objective audiometry and brainstem response audiometry. This was the first ever meeting of the only two institutions at that time working on the field of ABI in research and clinical application, the

4 proceedings of that meeting have been published by the Demeter Verlag/ Balingen. My responsibility was not only the surgical issue but also the pre- and postoperative evaluation of the first ABI recipients; first results were being presented in several national and international congresses. The European Clinical Trial of the Nucleus 21 Auditory Brainstem Implant has been organized by our team under my participation. Invited lecture and panelist on the International Workshop for comparing Cochlear Implants in Varese/Italy Next to clinical responsibilities I became administrative responsibilities of the ENT Dept. and participated in Seminars of the Education Academy on Hospital Administration and Management, Budget Management, Controlling, PC-Administration and Stuff Management. Organization of the annual regional educational Meeting for ENT doctors and co-organization of the annual Drei-Landertreffen of the ENT Depts. of the Universities of Freiburg, Basel und Strasburg. Organization of the annual seminar on Diagnostics and Therapy of deafness in childhood for the Academy for Medical Education of South Baden. Responsible for the education, lectures and examination in Otorhinolaryngology of the students of Dental Medicine and participant in the regular Otorhinolaryngology lectures for students of Human Medicine of the University of Freiburg. Member of the Examination Committee of both Faculties. Regarding Cochlear Implants, I have been interested in new surgical techniques in cases of abnormal middle and inner ear and by ossification of the cochlea, in management of possible complications on cochlear implant users, in objective techniques for speech processor fitting on children, in the Neural Response Telemetry and in evaluating prognostic factors. Since 1987 I have been collecting all cases with inner ear malformations out of approx adults and children with congenital deafness and I expanded their classification according to the embryogenesis. After invitation of the local Universities, I introduced the method of Cochlear Implant and I assisted the local ENT Depts. In establishing their new Cochlear Implant programs at the Universities of Regensburg and Homburg/Germany, at the University of Szeged/ Hungary, at the University of King Saud in Riyadh/ Saudi Arabia, in the Childrens Hospital Reine Fabiola of the Free University of Brussels/ Belgium and in the University of Thessaloniki/ Greece. I was responsible for the participation of our ENT Dept. and our representative in the organizing committee of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Congress of the Tumor Center Freiburg, Tumor Therapy-State of the Art, moderating several sessions and live-surgeries, including the first use of intraoperative neuronavigation in the University of Freiburg. During this time I had the opportunity to present my clinical experiences in several national meetings and congresses with scientific presentations (on facial nerve outcome after acoustic neuroma surgery, on alternative surgical techniques for the Zenker diverticulum, on the management of peritonsillar abscess, on angiography and embolization in Head and Neck and paranasal sinus surgery etc.) and videos (on interactive temporal bone dissection, of the Zenker Diverticulum and of the management of bilateral glomus jugulare tumors as my personal production and of surgical techniques for cochlear implant as co-producer) PhD thesis and Venia Legendi for Otorhinolaryngology in the Albert-Ludwig s-university of Freiburg with the subject Akustikusneurinom und Kleinhirnbruckenwinkeltumor.
