2 TORO-systems Dry Air desiccant dryers Introduction Efficient and accurate material drying is a crucial element in the processing of standard and engineering polymers. Engineering polymers are most often hygroscopic. They absorb humidity from ambient air which influences the melt in a negative way and massively affects product quality. Moisture in the polymer can either easily be seen (surface problems - PA) or hard to detect (reduced tensile strength). To produce quality products of hygroscopic polymers it is absolutely necessary to use an closed loop dryer with an dew point below dryer size The size of the material bin is depending on how the dryer is filled. Automatically filled material bins have 100% capacity, where manually filled material bins have a lower capacity depending on how often the bin is filled up. The needed drying time must be reached under any circumstances. The size of the material bin can be easily calculated as (for automatically filling): throughput kg/h * drying time h = content of the material bin kg content of the material bin kg / bulk density = size in litres (material bin) The size of the dry air generator are depending on the maximum throughput per hour. 3 TORO-systems Dry Air Easy Low cost single bed desiccant dryers Function At the process temperature heated dry air flows through the material bin and takes the moisture out of the polymer. The "wet" air then is filtered and dried in the molecular sieve (desiccant bed) before the circle begins again. When the desiccant bed is saturated the air flow is switched to regenerate it. Therefore fresh air is heated up to app. 250 C to bring the water out of the molecular sieve. Afterwards the molecular sieve is cooled down before switching the air flow again. 4 TORO-systems Dry Air Superior 2 bed desiccant dryer The advantage of a dryer with two desiccant beds is: The air flow through the material bin is constant. 6 Function (TORO-systems Dry Air Superior 120) At the process temperature heated dry air flows through the material bin and takes the moisture out of the polymer. The "wet" air then is filtered and dried in the molecular sieve (desiccant bed) before the circle begins again. To improve the capacity of the desiccant beds there is an air cooler after the process blower installed. When the desiccant bed is saturated the air flow is switched to the second desiccant bed. To regenerate the saturated desiccant bed a second blower brings fresh air to the regeneration heater. The fresh air is also used to cool the dried desiccant bed down to an uncritical temperature. The regeneration process is fully controlled by the micro processor unit and guarantees most effective energy saving. 7 Modularity The dry air generators can be combined with different blowers to full fill your requirements exactly. The air flow is measured and optimized for every unit. The TORO-systems dryers are constructed and manufactured that maintenance work can be done by the user himself. For example the molecular sieve can easily be changed, the heating elements are over-dimensioned and should not brake. Every material bin is made of stainless steel, extremely insulated and have an individual heating element. For the hopper loader there is also an 220 V socket installed. The TORO-systems dryers can be connected with one or more material bins depending on the size of air generator. 8 AES-System Dry Air: Automatic - Energy - Saving - System The TORO-systems Dry Air desiccant dryers have the AES-System Dry Air integrated to reduce the regeneration energy. With this system it is possible to reduce the energy for regeneration compared to time controlled systems up to 50%. The microprocessor surveys the regeneration process and calculates the amount of water that was absorbed within the working time. When there is still capacity for the molecular sieve the working time of the desiccant bed is increased and therefore the amounts of regenerations are reduced.
