It consists of the following components: Door sensor controller DSC 24V / DSC 23, Fast diffuse reflective sensor TLS 260-NPT NPN for 3D monitoring Bistable Magnetic Reed Switch for bypassing the TLS Attachments for mounting the TLS This document contains some technical specification of the different components and their installation procedure. The entrance area monitoring system from CEDES extends the function of a light curtain on an automatic door in order to obtain far-reaching, contact-less detection of approaching persons or objects in the entrance area. The system is suitable for new building works such as in the case of a modernization. The Door Sensor Controller (DSC) detects the signal from the entrance area sensor and the light curtain together. Depending on an internal temporal sequencing it either holds the door open, allows it to reverse or allows it to close despite an occupied entrance area sensor if no-one enters or leaves the elevator cab. The comfort of this plant improves due to contactless detection of approaching persons with a simultaneous increase in the availability of the cab. The 3D detection volume (entrance area) is set up for the installation and remains unchanged during movement of the door. The entrance area sensor is blanked between 300 mm and 50 mm before full door closure, when correctly installed. is mounted so that it moves with the elevator on the elevator cabin doors or in the lower fraction of the cable laid. It is necessary to have light curtain or at least a light barrier in the door plane for satisfactory functioning of the. This is the only way that the door sensor controller can recognise whether a person who triggered entrance area sensor also actually entered the lift cabin. The works in an optimal manner with a light curtain from CEDES. The system does, however, also operate perfectly with all other makes available on the market. An option to the port match available is also a relay module from CEDES (see Annex A1 - Connection to the light curtain Memco Elite ). CEDES/July

4 The scope of delivery includes: DSC, TLS 260, magnetic switch and actuator, assembly material and an instructions manual. Installation and Operation Manual This operating sequence only makes sense if the period that the door is held open for by the door / elevator control system is set to be shorter than the 3D time. This achieves better availability of the elevator system. If the period that the door is held open for is longer than the 3D time, the 3D sensor is no longer active upon closing of the doors. The 3D time can be adapted on-site to the respective local needs using the Door Sensor Controller with the aid of a small sliding switch between fast (12 seconds) and slow (18 seconds). Further applicable documents: [1] TLS 260, Installation and Operation Manual, CEDES Part No Mechanical Installation Scope of delivery Important The system can use CEDES light curtains or any other brand, as long as it is a 24 V system or that it comes with a relay output. For installation of the light curtain, please refer to the corresponding instruction manuals. 2. General Operation The operating sequence begins with the opening of the door. When this starts, the system is initialised by the magnetic switch and activates the 3D sensor. From now on the so-called 3D time is running depending on the setting for 18 seconds (slow) or 12 seconds (fast). The entrance area sensor TLS 260 calibrates itself within about 1.5 seconds to the situation on the respective floor which is shown by the green LED on the entrance area sensor. The 3D sensor is effective as long as the 3D time has not expired and the system will reverse the doors or will hold them open if it detects a person. If someone then actually does enter the elevator cabin and thus interrupts the protective field of the light curtain, then the 3D time will be reset and begins anew at 0 with 11 ( slow ) or 7 ( fast ) seconds. The 3D sensor no longer evaluates after expiry of the 3D time! This means that a person coming close to the sensor will be detected but the sensor will not react to him. Only interruption of the light curtain sets the time to 0 again. During a closing process of the doors, the 3D sensor is bridged shortly before the end positions of the door by means of a magnetic switch. In this way the operating sequence is finished. The Installation should be done in the following sequence: 1. Switch off 230 V / 24 V and mark clearly that this elevator is Out of service 2. Installation of the light curtain (emitter, receiver and cables) and the control unit (if available) 3. Installation of the Door Sensor Controller 4. Installation of 3D sensor 5. Installation of magnetic switch for bypass 6. Electrical installation 7. -up and test for proper function 3.1. Switch OFF main power For your own safety, turn the power off before you start working on the elevator! Clearly mark that this elevator is Out of service Installation of DSC 24V or DSC 23 The door sensor controller DSC is generally mounted above on the lift cabin or in the control panel of the lift cabin and functions as an interface between the optical safety edge system, 3D sensor, bridging switch and door control.the DSC 24 V / 230 V is a universal door sensor controller with the following features: Universal power supply in the range of 20 VAC / DC 265 VAC / DC Bypassing of the 3D-detection area to prevent a reduction in the elevator performance Limited functionality test of the light curtain and the 3D-sensor The Door Sensor Controller can be mounted horizontally or vertically with four screws near the door drive. 4 CEDES/July 2010

5 Installation and Operation Manual NOTICE: The PCB is sensitive to electro static discharge and must be handled with care to prevent callbacks. Use antistatic procedures when handling these boards. For the USA and Canada: Connect all wiring with more than 42 V through a Greenfield Fitting. Disconnect power before opening the Door Sensor Controller to prevent electrical shock. Otherwise serious injury or death of personnel may occur! Knockout hole for Greenfield Fitting Final installation with Greenfield Fitting (from T&B or other UL / CSA approved manufacturer) 3.3. Operating mode of the 3D sensor The TLS 260 measures the reflectivity of objects against the background reflection, calculates with intelligent signal processing the changes in the active area and switches the output. The TLS 260 exhibits very fast calibration capabilities: objects which remain static in the active area are automatically concealed through calibration within 1.5 seconds. The original reference value remains stored during the calibration interval. If the object disappears within the calibration time, the original reference value will be reinstated without further calibration. On power up the TLS carries out a calibration where the reflection of the background is measured. This value is stored as the reference value. Should an object intrude into the active area the reflectivity changes. This difference is measured and the output is switched. The greater the difference to the reference value the more sensitive the reaction. The TLS 260 does not recognize objects of the same reflectivity as the background. Therefore the following application points can be deduced: Highest sensitivity can be expected with high contrast between background and object, i.e. with Carpets, fabrics, rubber, asphalt, wood, concrete, terracotta, cardboard as background Persons to be detected Green LED is constantly on when there is no object in the 3D area Standard sensitivity can be expected: High reflective backgrounds like marble, polished metal, glass Light objects in front of light background Dark objects in front of dark background No background detected Standard sensitive applications are indicated by flashing the green LED. The sensor still works correctly. 6 Operating mode of the 3D sensor: The 3D sensor is most effectively mounted on the backside of the cabin transom. For center opening doors (Figure 1), it should be mounted central to the door panels; with side opening doors (Figure 2) it should be mounted on the side of the slam post. Protection area Ø ca. 300 mm Cabin Figure 1: Center Opening Cabin Protection area Ø ca. 300 mm Figure 2: Side Opening TLS Protection area Ø ca. 800 x 150 mm TLS Two mounting principles are possible for the 3D sensor, surface or flush mounting. The different mounting steps are given as follows: Installation and Operation Manual 2. Drill mounting holes whereby the optionally available sensor holder can be used as drill pattern. For surface mounting, (Figure 4), four self tapping screws are foreseen to fix the holder on the transom (use 3.2 mm drill bit). Another hole on the left or the right side of the sensor can be used as cable outlet/inlet (use 12 mm drill bit). As a option the cable can be guided also trough the predetermined breaking point of the cover. In this case, no extra hole for the cable is necessary. For flush mounting, (Figure 5), the holder will be fixed with two screws and two screw nuts. The nuts have to be inserted into the holder before the holder will be fixed with the screws. No extra hole is necessary for the cable. Place the black oval cover on the visible side of the transom before fixing the screws. Fix the sensor holder with the appropriate screws. 3. Check that the rubber grommets are already inserted into the sensor holder. 4. Put the cable trough the strain-relief and the extra hole and fix the sensor in between the holder side panels. 5. Adjust position of the 3D sensor. Use an angle smaller than 25 to the required background (e.g. for an door height of 2 meters, the sensor cone can be aligned to a maximum of 1 m out of the elevator cabin. 6. Snap in the cover (only for surface mounting necessary) 1. Important: The sensor holder must be aligned into the marked direction (Figure 3). Make sure the sensor holder has the correct final orientation - the direction of the pointed out arrow looks out of the cabin. 7 Installation and Operation Manual Figure 4: Surface mounting of 3D sensor Figure 5: Flush mounting of 3D sensor 3.4. Installation of magnetic switch The use of a bistable Magnetic Reed Switch is necessary to bypass the 3D sensor when the door is closing. The sensor should be mounted on the backside of the cab transom so as not to interfere with the function of the elevator. The magnet to switch the sensor must be mounted on the door panel. Mount the actuating part for the switch temporarily so the exact position is still easily adjustable. Moving the Activator magnet from left to right will cause a short circuit of the magnetic switch. The bistable contact guarantees that short-circuiting is only possible with left-right movements, and opencircuiting only with right-left movements. As a consequence, there is no uncertainty in case of a missed movement, such as a miss-leading inversion of the switching logic. Important: The 3D sensor shall be bypassed 50 to 300 mm before full door closure. This prevents the wings of the door grazing the active area of the 3D sensor and therefore continuously re-opening the lift doors. The switching operation is visualized in Figure 7. Follow the wiring diagram (Figure 9) to connect the door drive to the relay output. Only if the relay is connected as shown in the diagram below, the whole unit will work as a fail safe 1 (page 55) protection device Wire light curtain to DSC Important Before connecting the light curtain, please put the cable first with the plug side trough the blue strainrelief of the controller. For light curtain use the strain-relief with two holes, one for the receiver cable, one for the emitter cable. Use of CEDES MiniMax light curtain: The receiver connector (Rx) (3-pin WAGO connector) must be plugged into the 3-pin WAGO plug The transmitter connector (Tx) (2-pin WAGO connector) must be plugged into the 2-pin WAGO plug Use of other light curtain with semi-conductor output: The 3D-Controller DSC 230 V processes the signals of different sensors and activates the output relay for the elevator control. The output type of a light curtain can be: (1) NPN (with pull-up resistor), (2) NPN (open collector), (3) PNP (with pull-down resistor) (4) PNP (open emitter) 8 CEDES/July 2010

9 Installation and Operation Manual The logic of a light curtain can be: (A) HI = object ; GND = free (B) GND = object ; HI = free The DSC controller is able to recognize both, type (1 4) and logic (A, B) of the connected light curtain automatically! Follow the wiring diagram (Figure 9) to connect receiver and emitter edge correctly. The controller delivers a separate 24 V supply for emitter and receiver. For a proper function it is imperative to use them. The light curtain output will be connected on the 3-pole WAGO connector of the receiver connector. There are several pre-confected cables available. Please ask your CEDES partner. Use of other light curtain with relay output (e.g. cegard/max) Light curtains with relay outputs can also be connected to the Door Sensor Controller. Follow the wiring diagram Figure 8 to connect the light curtain output to the Door Sensor Controller. Emitter Receiver Contact = free Contact = Common contact Contact = Object Light curtain output Figure 8: Connection of light curtain with relay output Wire 3D sensor to DSC Important Before connecting the 3D sensor, please put the cable first with the plug side trough the blue strainrelief of the controller. Use a strain-relief with two holes, one for 3D sensor, one for the bypass switch. The connection of the 3D sensor is made with a 4-pin WAGO Connector. The 3D sensor cable is pre-wired and can simply be switched into the 4-pin socket according to Figure 9. If the plug is lost or if you want to use another TLS Type as 3D sensor, please refer to Figure 9. Connection check: The output of the 3D sensor must be 24 V if no object is within the 3D detection area (visualized with the green LED on the 3D sensor). The active area is now tested with the aid of an object. Introduce this object at operating range from all four corners and remember the spot where the TLS triggers. The red LED lights up if the object is detected and the output switches Wire bypass switch to DSC Important Before connecting the bypass switch, please put the cable first trough the blue strain-relief. For bypass switch use the same strain-relief (with two holes) as for the 3D sensor. This magnetic switch will be connected in parallel to the 3D sensor. The bypass sensor cable has to be wired to the 2-pin WAGO socket according to Figure 9. The polarity of the connection has no influence, as the provided switch comes with a relay output. Connection check: The contact of the magnetic switch must be closed if the 3D sensor is bypassed which means the door is closed. CEDES/July
