1 Intensive Programmes Compendium Project number AT1-ERA Building with Sustainable Materials 2010 Coordinator Contact person The Intensive Programme Building with Sustainable Resources is aimed at improving and further developing existing approaches to sustainable building. During a two weeks workshop,, professors and practitioners from different countries work together and reflect on alternative building materials and techniques. In the theory lessons, different important issues in the context of sustainable building are dealt with, e. g.: Maximal output with minimal input: How can we reach this goal in building? / Low-tech versus High-tech: What are the future demands on architecture, landscape architecture, structural engineering, technical building services and urban planning? / How can we solve problems on the existing building and develop good structural concepts?in workshop sessions the put into practice the knowledge they have acquired and they develop their projects. The workshop ends with a competition during which the best projects are awarded a prize, sponsored by local companies.six from each university in the partner consortium are invited to take part in the workshop and competition. Participants in the workshop have a broad understanding of one or several of the following disciplines: wood technology, timber construction, civil engineering, building materials (with a focus on wood), building techniques, technical design. They are open to learning more about other countries, cultures and languages and are able to use English as the working language of the course. They have a strong interest in intercultural aspects and wish to extend their knowledge in new areas of study. During the workshop, work in pluricultural and multidisciplinary teams of six. They develop their building projects; elaborate a scientific poster as well as a working and presentation model on a scale of 1:100. During the whole working process, will keep a workbook where they document their discussions, the different work stages, plans, drawings, photos from the model. The course Building with Sustainable Resources provides with a deeper insight into different approaches to sustainability in the context of building. Moreover, the input sessions delivered by different experts from different European cultures contribute substantially towards the development of a definition of an architectural conception which could be considered as common in these cultures. Students reflect on the different approaches towards sustainability and they learn about the different vernacular architectures of the participating countries. They finally will come up with a definition of what could be considered a common focus of architecture in different cultures. 3 AT1-ERA International Summer School on the Americas 2010 Coordinator Contact person Die International Summer School on the Americas ist ein Kooperationsprojekt zwischen universitären Bildungseinrichtungen aus unterschiedlichen europäischen, aber auch amerikanischen (im hemisphärischen Sinn gesprochen) Ländern. Ziel der Sommerschule ist es, die schon bestehenden Forschungsfelder, in den die Inter-Amerikanischen Studien komplementierenden Bereichen (US-Amerikanistik, Kanadistik, Lateinamerikanistik, Karibische Studien etc.), an den neun IP Partneruniversitäten aufzuzeigen und durch Vernetzung der Disziplinen die Basis für dieses sich entwickelnde Forschungsfeld zu schaffen. Hauptthema der Sommerschule ist die aktuelle Diskussion von regionalem und globalem Charakter der Gesellschaften und Kulturen in den Amerikas. Eine Neudefinierung der Begriffe Amerika und amerikanisch wird hervorgerufen, fort von der US zentrierten Interpretation und hin zu einem hemisphärischen Blickwinkel auf die Amerikas, der auch Kanada, Lateinamerika und die Karibik mit einschließt. Um die Amerikas so zu definieren werden in Zeiten der Globalisierung, in denen nationale Grenzen immer mehr in Frage gestellt werden, neue konzeptuelle Herangehensweisen benötigt, die über geopolitische Grenzen hinaus gehen. Hauptziel der Sommerschule ist der Austausch von internationalen Studierenden und Lehrenden sowie der Aufbau von Netzwerken zwischen den im Fachbereich der Inter-Amerikanistik tätigen Partnerinstitutionen. Im Rahmen der Kooperation werden auch Vorarbeiten zu einem in der Zukunft geplanten Joint Degree auf Masterebene geleistet. Die acht thematischen Seminare, die von internationalen Lehrenden aus den Fachbereichen Kanadistik, US-Amerikanistik, Lateinamerikanistik und Inter-Amerikanistik unterrichtet werden, sollen Einblick in die diskursiven und symbolischen Konstruktionen in den Amerikas bieten. Die Gesamtzahl der Studierenden soll sich 2013 wieder auf 80 belaufen. 45 der Studierenden kommen Von unseren IP Partneruniversitäten und 35 von Hochschulen in Europa und den Amerikas. Die Sommerschule dient als Plattform um einen facettenreichen Austausch von Ideen, Lehrmethoden und Herangehensweisen an die Inter-Amerikanischen Studien zu ermöglichen. Da keine anderen Länder als jene europäischen, die in der Liste 6.3. aufgelistet sind, ausgewählt werden können, möchten wir vermerken, dass die Gesamtzahl der IP Studierenden höher sein wird. Dieser Umstand ergibt sich weil 35 Studierende von außerhalb Europas oder aus anderen europäischen Ländern, die nicht auf der Liste vermerkt sind, am IP Programm teilnehmen werden. 5 AT1-ERA The internationalization of social work and social policy in theory and practice 2011 Coordinator Contact person The intensive programme The internationalization of social work and social policy in theory and practice is coordinated by the University of Applied Sciences St. Poelten, Department of Social Work (Austria) with partners from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Work (Slovenia), Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences ASH (Germany), Anglia Ruskin University (UK), University of Jyväskylä (Finland) and University of Milano Bicocca (Italy).The main objective of the project is to carry out a unique international intensive teaching programme as the integral part of the first joint doctoral studies in social work "INDOSOW - International doctoral studies in social work". The IP aims to improve the as well as teachers abilities to learn, practice and teach in an international environment. Its objective is to ensure a stronger international and comparative understanding of different knowledge and traditions in the areas of social work and social policy.the 10-day intensive programme is particularly designed for doctoral of social work but also for other postgraduate from the field of social sciences and humanities, who have a special interest in a comparative social work and social policy research on a higher academic level. Teachers of the IP are well-known and respected experts from the participating institutions. The coordinator has been a long term representative of the international federation of social workers to the United Nations in Vienna and a decisive force behind the move of social work education into the academic sector. Another teacher is a Katherine Kendall Awardee, which is the highest international social work award in the world today and one was the president of the European Schools of Social Work for 8 years. All of the teachers have an extensive expertise in teaching and researching in the international arena in Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East and beyond.the main activities of the intensive programme will be plenary lectures (within the main courses), thematic workshops, peer groups discussions, case studies presentations and field work visits and reflections. The courses will be taught in English at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences and will cover three main topics: 1. Key issues in research methodology of international social work and social policy, 2. Structure and dynamics of world society with special attention to the role of Europe and the action spaces of social work, 3. Human rights and vulnerable groups in world society and in Europe. Within these main topics the IP will again pay special attention to the intersectionality of migration, gender and care in social work.the project will apply advanced teaching and communication methods, provide an international context and ensure a comparative perspective of the teaching material. Participant will be provided with one reader for each module and have access to updated teaching material far in advance via an e-learning plattform and a website. This website will also be available for other and institutions teaching social work and social policy. The outcomes provided by the programme and the pedagogical innovations developed, will be used later on within the Indosow study programme at all universities involved. 7 AT1-ERA "PSST! -Personal & Shared Strategies for Teachers in Web 2.0" 2011 Coordinator Contact person Dieses Intensivprogramm hat den Aufbau von Digital Literacyim Umgang mit E-Learning 2.0-Werkzeugen, speziell für Studierende in der Lehrerausbildung als Ziel. Die Zielgruppe sind Studierende auf BA/MA Level aus Lehrfächern, sowie LehramtsstudentInnen aus dem Sonderpädagogikbereich. Dies ist das zweite von drei geplanten Sommerschulen mit dieser Themenstellung, wobei das IP aus einer Vorbereitungsphase, einer Präsenzphase während der Sommerschule als auch einer Nachbereitungsphase besteht.die Sommerschule gibt den Studierenden die Möglichkeit, eigene E-Learning 2.0 Beispiele und Konzepte vorzustellen und mit einem internationalen Expertengremium als auch mit Studierenden der teilnehmenden Partneruniversitäten zu diskutieren. Darüber hinaus werden auch alle Präsentationen, sowohl von den Professoren als auch von den Studierenden, aufgezeichnet und über div. Social Networks veröffentlicht. Dies ermöglicht eine Verbreitung der Inhalte und Resultate, weit über die Teilnehmergruppe hinaus. Um den StudentInnen während der Summerschool die Möglichkeit zu bieten, sich in einer internationalen Gruppe mit einem Thema genauer auseinander zu setzen, werden "special Interest Groups" gebildet. Die Ergebnisse dieser "special Interrest Groups" werden am Ende der Summerschool der ganzen Gruppe präsentiert. Durch den Einsatz von IKT wird ein internationales Kommunikations- und Informationsnetzwerk aufgebaut und betrieben, welches auch nach der Durchführung des Intensivprogramms bestehen und aktiv sein soll.dieses IP verfolgt als Lernziele technische und vor allem pädagogische Kompetenzen im Umgang mit Web 2.0. Auch der medienkritische Umgang, kooperatives und interkulturelles Arbeiten, die Schulung von Präsentationsfähigkeiten sowie das Ausarbeiten von "Best Practice Beispielen" im E-Learning Bereich und die Erstellung von Unterrichtskonzepten für E-Learning 2.0. Synergieeffekte ergeben sich durch die institutionellen Profile der beteiligten Partner, welche sich wechselseitig komplementieren. Dadurch können ganz unterschiedliche Bildungsbereiche, darunter auch "Special Needs Education" (Sonderpädagogik), abgedeckt werden. Bei der Auswahl der teilnehmenden Partnerinstitutionen wurde besonders auf deren Erfahrungen und Wissen im Bereich E-Learning geachtet, um den StudentInnen eine sehr hohe Qualität an E-Learning 2.0 Wissen garantieren zu können. Folgende Ergebnisse werden mit diesem Intensivprogramm angestrebt. Durch die internationale Zusammenarbeit und den Konzeptaustausch soll der Einsatz von E-Learning 2.0 in der Pflichtschule verstärkt werden. Die erarbeiteten Beispiele sollen andere StudentInnen als auch bereits im Beruf stehende LehrerInnen motivieren, E-Learning 2.0 in den Schulalltag zu integrieren und somit den SchülerInnen die Möglichkeit eröffnen, aktiv und selbstständig zu lernen. Die mit diesem Projekt erstellte Webseite (www.psst.cc) soll als offene Medien- u. Wissensdatenbank eine weite Verbreitung finden und auch nach dem Projektabschluss durch die entstandene und aufgebaute Lehr- u. Lerncommunity betreut werden. 9 AT1-ERA Steganography and Digital Investigations 2011 In der modernen Welt sind Computer und elektronische Kommunikation unerlässlich geworden. Viele unserer täglichen Handlungen werden von elektronischen Geräten wie etwa tragbaren Computern und Smartphones unterstützt. Im Hinblick auf diese Entwicklung ist es nachvollziehbar, dass Computer auch immer mehr für die Planung, Unterstützung und Ausführung krimineller Aktivitäten eingesetzt werden. Die akademische Disziplin, die sich dieses Themas annimmt und es umfassend behandelt, ist die Informationssicherheit, mit den Schwerpunkten Steganografie, Sicherheitsbedrohungen, deren Gegenmaßnahmen, und Analyse von digitalem Beweismaterial. Das Intensivprogramm Steganography and Digital Investigations (SDI) richtet sich primär an Studierende der Informationstechnologie mit Grundkenntnissen aus Computerwissenschaft, Betriebssystemen und Netzwerktechnik. Das Intensivprogramm wird von den teilnehmenden Hochschulen (8 Hochschulen in 7 europäischen Ländern) mit insgesamt 8 Vortragenden und 42 Studierenden beschickt. Die Projektpartner sind: 1. Fachhochschule St. Pölten/St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, Österreich (Koordinatorin) 2. Universität Bournemouth, Großbritannien (Gastgeberin) 3. XIOS Hogeschool Limburg, Belgien 7. Yasar University, Izmir, Türkei 8. Universität Vilnius, Litauen. SDI wird von der Fachhochschule St. Pölten, Österreich, koordiniert und soll von 22. April bis 4. Mai 2013 an der Universität Bournemouth, Großbritannien, stattfinden. SDI besteht im wesentlichen aus Theorievermittlung und Fallstudien aus den Teilgebieten Verbergen und Aufdecken von Informationen, Ermittlung und Vorbeugung. Statistiken zeigen, dass die EU-Mitgliedsstaaten an ähnlichen Sicherheitsproblemen leiden, allerdings vor einem jeweils anderen spezifischen kulturellen Hintergrund. Es ist daher wichtig, die verschiedenen Perspektiven und Ansätze zu vergleichen und Einigkeit darüber zu erzielen, worin gute Sicherheitspraxis besteht. Mit der Kenntnis dieser good practice werden die Studierenden verschiedene Fallstudien auf dem Gebiet der Steganografie bearbeiten, digitales Beweismaterial analysieren und dabei auch (kulturell determinierte) ethische Grenzen diskutieren und ausloten. Durch SDI soll auch neues Lehrmaterial auf dem Gebiet der Informationssicherheit entstehen. Das Lehrmaterial ein gemeinsames Lehrbuch und auch elektronisches Material wird veröffentlicht und allen TeilnehmerInnen zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Projektergebnisse sollen auf einer eigenen Projekt-Website dargestellt werden. Ein wichtiges Ziel dieses Intensivprogramms ist, dass das Thema Informationssicherheit ins reguläre Unterrichtsprogramm der Partnerhochschulen übernommen und als innovatives Modul auch anderen europäischen Hochschulen zur Verfügung gestellt werden soll. SDI kann eine wichtige Rolle spielen bei der Förderung der Mobilität von europäischen Lehrenden und Studierenden in einer technischen Disziplin und stärkt die multilaterale Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Projektpartnern. Die teilnehmenden Studierenden werden beurteilt, und ihre Leistung während des Intensivprogramms wird mit 3 9

10 ECTS-Punkten anerkannt. Als Ergebnis von SDI sollen die Studierenden in der Lage sein, die Sicherheitspraktiken in ihren Ländern komparativ zu bewerten und über gemeinsam erstellte Good-Practice-Modelle zu berichten und sie zu verwenden. Studierende und Lehrende werden gemeinsam neue Lehr- und Lernmethoden schaffen, die wiederum der Lehre an den Heimathochschulen zugute kommen. 11 AT1-ERA Innovative Approaches in special needs education how to enhance the learners skills regarding the 8 key competences Training for teachers at basic levels Training for teachers with subject specialisation The Objective of the IP is to achieve an increase in the quality of teaching in the subject area of Special Educational Needs by widening national approaches in view of international learning contexts in the field of Special Educational Needs (SEN). Based on the eight key competences of lifelong learning the IP will implement innovative approaches on two levels: the will follow an innovative course based on an integrated approach, which combines different methods in the field of SEN. The activities of the IP aim at the production of learning materials based on the latest research findings regarding brain-friendly learning processes within SEN teaching. The participating teachers will combine their professional know-how and expertise and their views on how to teach specific contents areas in order to offer a new learning experience to future teachers in a multinational learning environment. The professors participating in the IP will explore future European co-operation activities in the subject area SEN. The overall objective of the IP is to bring together specific know-how and expertise and to identify examples of best practice based on the latest research findings on a European level. The envisaged mobility plan based on the results of this IP will lead to an increase of student and staff mobility and it will contribute to the creation of a European Higher Education Area where mobility is based on pre-arranged structures including recognition agreements and pre-defined course componenets, which offer new approaches and new content areas to from other partner institutions.the target groups of the IP are undergraduate at institutions of higher education and who are aiming at working in the field of Special Needs Education in five European countries. The lecturers and professors, who prepared the Intensive Programme and who will deliver the course contents, are experts in their respective fields.the main activities of this IP include a limited number of lectures, workshops, group discussions on selcted issues related to brain-friendly learning processes and field studies. Three months prior to the Intensive Programme (phase one) all participants will receive specific tasks to work on together with a reading list comprising five articles focusing on the application of reasearch findings for SEN. The will also have to prepare a concise input into the IP that focuses on country specific issues such as e.g. the degree of integration of learners with Special Educational Needs into the mainstream educational systems of the respective countries. This activity will lead to an increase in awareness towards necessary within SEN. The activities as carried out during the IP aim at the production of teaching materials which reflect the latest reasearch findings. Furthermore, the will be enabled to base their decisions related to the selection of appropriate teaching methods on research results rather than on conventional teaching practices. During the two weeks of the IP the participants will be grouped into multinational learning teams and their progress will be assessed by a multinational monitoring team who will also be responsible for the assessment of the achievements during the IP. The participating lecturers and professors will supervise the workshops according to the agreed content areas and offer specific lectures within the agreed content framework.the intended and jointly agreed outcomes of the IP are as follows: increase of implementation skills of latest research results and basic scientific principles of brain-friendly learning & teaching increase of awareness of and guided reflections on selected innovative pedagogical methods and didactic schemes, which are developed, explored, compared and analysed during the workshops gaining new insights into the framework within which learning processes take place gaining new knowledge related to the interrelationship between learning environments, brain-friendly learning methodologies and achievement levels improve European team-work-competences, both on the level of academic staff as well as on the level of improving the IT skills of teacher trainee As a concrete expected output of this IP, the participating will prepare specific contributions and inputs into the handbook according to their individual learning needs and according to individual areas of interests. The contributions of the will be assessed by the international monitoring team 11

12 according to a pre-agreed assessment system. The handbook with components such as framework of the IP (developed learning materials, results of guided field studies, research related conclusions, classroom observations etc) will be linked to the IP website. The website for the Intensive Programme has already been constructed: The participating will upload the materials and the contributions they have developed during the IP. This will lead to a collection of European best practices in SEN. A glossary of field related terminology to be compiled by the participating will also be included in the handbook as well as the compiled learning materials. 13 AT1-ERA Patient mobility in the European Union on the example of Health care services for tourists in the Veneto region Health 34 - Business and administration Although the vast majority of patients receive healthcare in their own country, sometimes the care is best provided abroad. This can be the case for example for highly specialised care or in border areas where the nearest appropriate facility is abroad. In this cases the term Cross border care is used. Cross-border health care is a growing phenomenon in the European Union. When in need of medical treatment, patients increasingly act as informed consumers who claim the right to choose their own providers, including those beyond borders.the project EUROPAMO (Patient mobility in the European Union on the example of Health care services for tourists in the Veneto region) is a joint project between Erasmus University Rotterdam, Oslo University, University Bologna and Management Center Innsbruck. The main objectives of the 13-days Intensive Program are the exchange of, staff and expertise, network building amongst the partner institutions in the field of cross border care and patient mobility, and as a further level of cooperation between the partners the establishment of Joint Degree master program in Health Economics and Management intended to start in October Therefore the program aims 1) through innovative interdisciplinary study methods a) develop an advanced level of understanding that allows them for example to review the EU s legal system, b) understand current developments in the area of cross border care and medical tourism and c) address the current challenges in health care facing the EU, 2) to create a network of European health management higher educational institutions with strong expertise on cross border care, 3) to improve the connection between health management practice and theory, 4) to provide a number of from different study programs with additional and in depth knowledge and experience in cross border care and medical tourism, 5) to create a platform which fosters the exchange of ideas. The target group is 37 international master. Moreover, for each partner 1-4 lecturers will through participating in the program improve their qualification, develop new teaching methods and strengthen their expertise (in total 12 lecturers). The credits for the IP will be confirmed by certificates which will be recognized by all universities. The IP will obtain 5 ECTS for successful participation. The details of recognition will be negotiated and agreed upon according to every partner s course structure. Main activities take place in in multinational/multicultural workgroups guided by a lecturer. Part of the activities will be preparational reading in the home countries, lectures on the topic from different perspectives, a practical insight in hospitals and health authorities of the Veneto region, a concluding part with lecturers and seminars given by an international team of academic teachers, final presentations in the plenary. Location of the IP will be the Veneto Region (Jesolo), Italy. The local and regional health care institutions and authorities in Italy have already been contacted by the coordinating institution and they are willing to support the IP. An internet website will be used during the IP learning process as a tool to support the preparation and follow-up of the IP both for and for teachers. 15 Coordinator Contact person AT1-ERA Perspectives on Active Ageing Sociology and cultural studies Nursing and caring Health (others) The objective of the IP is to develop a two week intensive programme for European first and second cycle of health and social care professionals (total 40) and up to 12 tutors/experts from four HEIs in Europe (Austria, Finland, Ireland and the UK). The first IP will take place in Klagenfurt, Austria from 25. August - 7. September The key aim is to share good practice and the latest cutting edge research on perspectives on active ageing. The programme will have lifelong learning over the life-course as a core theme and will draw on expertise in these fields from across Europe. In addition, over the course of two years (with two consecutive IPs) a thematic network will be set up among project partners and additional HEIs in Europe interested to share knowledge and experiences on this globally pressing topic.the IP is targeted at first and second cycle (part-time and full-time) of different health and social care professions such as healthcare management, health promotion, nurses, radiography, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation counsellors, social workers. As part-time usually have difficulties in participating in international exchange due to work and family responsibilities, they will be given priority in the selection procedure. The main activities of the IP are structured as follows:1. First week: 5 days of introductory teaching and learning including active participation in qualitative and quantitative research approaches giving the essential theoretical and methodological background as well as time for self-reflection related to the participant s own concepts and stereotypes of age and ageing. Time will also be given to share and reflect national and regional specificities. 2. In the second week the first three days will be dedicated to topic-specific seminars, independent group work, feedback sessions, planning of peer lectures based on chosen topic and preparation for their presentations to all participants. Participants will be able to choose from approximately seven topics (e.g. ageing and work / age management, lifelong learning, gender and ageing, cultural diversity, maintaining independence in later life, social inclusion and networks). Participants are expected to work in groups of 6-7 with those from other countries and disciplines.3. The last two days of the IP will be dedicated to peer teaching among participants: each topic-specific student group will be asked to teach an aspect of their chosen topic to the other IP participants (each session approx. 1.5 hours). As outlined above, developing these lectures will be part of the independent work including feedback sessions with their facilitator during the first three days of week 2. Both the belief in nuclear progress and the fear of nuclear warfare have shaped the European integration process from its very beginnings. The further development of the peaceful applications of nuclear technologies in Europe, as envisaged in the foundation of the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) in 1957, corresponded to President Eisenhower s famous Atoms for Peace speech of But notwithstanding this optimistic vision of nuclear energy the Europeans in East and West also faced the threat of atomic warfare between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Chernobyl disaster of 1986 showed that the danger of radiation cut across national borders. Nuclear hopes and atomic fears alike were something that united the divided European continent.the IP s objective is to develop a fresh perspective on the nuclear aspects of European history between the early post-war years and the fall of the Iron Curtain. It aims to bring together graduate, doctoral candidates, and teaching staff from different national origins. The participants of the IP will come from three founding states of Euratom (Italy, Germany, France), from a neutral state (Austria), and from a former Warsaw pact state (Hungary). This multinational composition of the IP will enable the and the teaching staff to go beyond national narratives. Moreover, the IP will facilitate a better understanding of the variety of nuclear programs, protest cultures, and environmental measures in Europe. Thus developments on the local, the national, and the European level will be within the scope of the IP Atoms for EUrope. To dismantle national and thematic boundaries in researching Europe s nuclear history lies at the heart of the IP. Its target is to facilitate a fruitful exchange among and an institutional cooperation of young scholars and established teachers from different research backgrounds, including research subjects such as nuclear weapons proliferation, atomic culture, disarmament movements, and the rise of environmentalism. Methodological inputs from political science, international relations, and cultural studies contribute to the interdisciplinary design of the IP. Since there is still a crucial lack of research activities that bridge the gaps between these various approaches, the IP allows for an innovative look at the nuclear age in Europe. 20 Coordinator Contact person AT1-ERA Winter/Summer School in Finno-Ugric Studies Humanities (broad programmes) Foreign languages The main objective of the planned IP is to organise intensive training and instruction in Uralic/Finno-Ugric (language) studies, introducing innovative learning practices and covering a broader range of themes and approaches than what today's university departments in this small-volume discipline can offer on their own. The IP will also encourage international networking between and early-career researchers, give them a chance of presenting and discussing their work and work plans in an international context and getting feedback from experts outside their own institution. Our long-term goal is to develop regular international multilateral cooperation in the teaching of Uralic studies; thus, the experiences gained from this IP will provide an important contribution to curriculum development. The IP is primarily aimed at advanced MA and postgraduate, but we do not want to completely exclude advanced and motivated BA, either. Our dissemination will be mainly directed at expert audience in our field of study and related disciplines, but the closing event is also aimed at a more general audience, such as language professionals, people interested in questions of multilingualism and minority languages, or prospective future of Finno-Ugristics.Before the IP, the participants will get prepared by participating in virtual discussions and getting acquainted with course material on the online forum; they will also decide which workshop they will attend actively and prepare their contribution for it. The IP itself will consist of courses in two highly endangered Uralic languages (if possible, involving native-speaker teachers), workshops and lectures, plus a postgraduate colloquium. The participating will learn the basics of two minor Uralic languages, develop their practical abilities in empirical linguistic work (e.g. language documentation, glossing or transcribing), acquire experience in independent research, academic writing and presenting in English, and in international networking and cooperation. In addition to their contributions and presentations in workshops and/or the colloquium, they will write a portfolio paper about the whole project. Students will be awarded 10ECTS for their work, which will be acknowledged as part of their regular curriculum at their home institutions. The project can be expected to offer an essential contribution to the development of teaching and curriculum development in the participating institutions and a major motivation boost for the participating. It will also stimulate the interest of outsiders, especially prospective, towards Uralic studies. The project will have an internal online platform for virtual communication and sharing of material.
