Viele gute Gründe sprechen dafür, von A wie Abgaben bis Z wie Zukunft und es werden Hintergründe, die zur Dynamisierung der Wirtschaft führten, sowie die Positionierung von Österreich an Hand von Kennzahlen erläutert.

4 Hermann Mattanovich, Member of the Executive Board, Frequentis AG Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, on March 4, 1960, Hermann Mattanovich graduated from the Vienna University of Technology in 1985 with a degree in electrical engineering. He began his professional career as a technical consultant for companies like Philips, Elin, VOEST and Frequentis. He also worked as a lecturer at his alma mater. In 1988, he and Franz Schodl cofounded PDTS, a software development company based in Vienna. As its managing director, he was (and still is) responsible for the successful development of the business: the company currently employs around 60 engineers working in telecommunication, chip card and other specialist fields. PDTS focuses on producing software for projects requiring strict safety and quality standards. An ongoing and successful collaboration between Frequentis and PDTS dates back to the latter's early days, and led directly to Frequentis taking a 30% stake in the company. PDTS is an important strategic partner for Frequentis and contributes significantly to the success of product and system development projects. Between 1999 and 2004, Mr. Mattanovich was also responsible for the TETRA development portfolio at Frequentis. In 2005, the company's TETRA activities were spun off into a separate specialist company: 3T Communications AG. The appointment of Mr. Mattanovich as its CEO was a logical step. The new company focuses on radio solutions for the private mobile radio market. In January 2009, Hermann Mattanovich was appointed to the Frequentis executive board as its fourth member and entrusted with a technology remit. "My objective is to further reinforce two of the key strengths of Frequentis: technical competence and innovation", says Mr. Mattanovich, commenting on his new field of responsibility. His vast technological knowledge and experience, together with a long history of successful cooperation with Frequentis, form the basis for achieving this goal. Coordinator of Energy strategy Burgenland 2003 Coordinator of Energy team for an energy autonomous Burgenland 2020 Development and implementation of energy projects at regional and interregional level Expert for Energy consultancy and funding of energy related investments Statement von DI Johann Binder: Die Energiestrategie als Weg zur Energieautonomie Im Projekt ESPAN Energiestrategie Pannonien werden Strategien zur Energieautonomie der Regionen des Burgenlandes und der Komitate Westungarns entwickelt, wodurch langfristig die Energieversorgung dieses Gebiets gesichert werden soll. Aufgrund der geographischen Lage ist das Burgenland bereits jetzt in der glücklichen Situation rund 60% des Strombedarfs aus Windstrom generieren zu können. Dieser Vorteil soll in den nächsten Jahren noch weiter ausgebaut werden. Weiters werden bereits Überlegungen hinsichtlich einer vollständigen Energieautonomie des Burgenlandes angestellt. Begleitend dazu werden im Projekt ESPAN zahlreiche Aktionen wie z.b. Pilotprojekte zu neuen und vielversprechenden Technologien oder bewusstseinsbildende Maßnahmen im Bereich Energiesparen gesetzt. Mit der Nutzung von regional vorhandenen Ressourcen und dezentralen Konzepten für die Energieproduktion und Energiespeicherung könnte daher ein energieautonomes Burgenland schon in naher Zukunft Realität werden.

Alois Steinbichler: Innovation und Nachhaltigkeit stehen im Fokus der diesjährigen Veranstaltung der iconvienna. Beides bedeutende Konzepte und gelebte Werte im Bereich des kommunalen und infrastrukturnahen Projektgeschäfts, auf das sich die Kommunalkredit Austria spezialisiert hat. Aktuelles Beispiel: Die Initiative Licht ermöglicht Gemeinden und Städten einen attraktiven Umstieg auf moderne, innovative Beleuchtungstechnik, wodurch Energiekosten gesenkt und Sicherheit erhöht wird. Dr. Jurkowitschist seit 1985 im Bereich Immobilienentwicklung und Investment in Ungarn, der Tschechischen Republik, Polen, Deutschland, Frankreich, Rumänien und Russland tätig. Weitersist er Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrates der Vienna International Hotelmanagement AG (seit Mai 1999), Mitglied des Aufsichtsrates von S&T System Integration & Technology Distribution AG (seit Juni 2004) und der Sigmund Freud-Privatstiftung (seit Oktober 2003). Herr Jurkowitschabsolvierte die Universität für Welthandel in Wien und promovierte Statement von Dr. Franz Jurkowitsch: Das vergangene Geschäftsjahr 2010 war für uns, wie auch die gesamte Branche ein Jahr des Übergangs von der Krise zur Normalität. Nach einem sehr schwierigen Jahr 2009 stieg das Vertrauen in eine globale wirtschaftliche Erholung stetig an. Dies zeigte sich nicht zuletzt in einer langsamen Lockerung der restriktiven Finanzwirtschaft der letzten Jahre. So konnten wir für unser Projekt in der Airportcity in St. Petersburg letzten Oktober einen Kreditvertrag über 60 Millionen Euro mit einem polnischen Bankenkonsortium fixieren. Weiters konnten wir für eine Bürohausentwicklung in Warschau eine Projektfinanzierung abschließen. Dennoch war auch 2010 ein herausforderndes Jahr für Warimpex und die gesamte Branche. Trotz Verbesserung der Marktbedingungen waren Fremdfinanzierungen insgesamt nach wie vor teuer und schwer zu bekommen. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat Warimpex im Frühjahr 2010 eine Kapitalerhöhung durchgeführt, um laufende Projekte weiterzuentwickeln und flexibel auf Marktentwicklungen reagieren zu können. Im laufenden Geschäftsjahr und auch für die nächsten Jahre rechnen wir mit einem sich langsam normalisierenden Umfeld für Projektfinanzierungen.

12 Statement von DDr. Reinhard Mang Ökoinnovationen und Umwelttechnologien stehen im Fokus der europäischen Strategie Europa Grüne Innovationen und Technologien sind eine klare Antwort auf die aktuellen gesellschaftlichen, ökologischen und ökonomischen Herausforderungen. Sie sind Treiber für eine nachhaltige, ressourceneffiziente und kostenwirksame Wirtschaft und schaffen die erfolgreichen und wettbewerbsfähigen Märkte von morgen. Ökoinnovationen und Umwelttechnologien sind eine der wichtigsten Instrumente und Optionen für einen Übergang in Richtung Green Economy mit der Wirkung Green Jobs zu schaffen. Österreich hat im Innovationsbereich mit Platz 7 eine starke Position unter den 27 EU-Staaten. Ziel ist es bis 2020 in die Gruppe der europäischen Innovationsleader aufzusteigen. Notwendig dafür sind verbesserte Rahmenbedingungen zur Stimulierung von Grünen Innovationen und Technologien sowie eine Erhöhung der Forschungsquote auf 3,76 %. Das Lebensministerium setzt auf Umweltinnovationen und Umwelttechnologien, Green Economy sowie Green Jobs und ist somit für die TeilnehmerInnen an der iconvienna ein spannender Markt- und Ideenplatz. He worked for the European Environment Agency and as a consultant based at University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, advising project financing institutions and reinsurance companies on energy and environment topics. Bernhard joined VERBUND Trading in 2001 as project manager and helped to establish Verbund s international trading business later heading its Executive Office. He became Head of Strategy and Corporate Development for VERBUND in 2005 and in this function also led international steps of the group. After leading VERBUND s entry into the Turkish market and partnership talks with Sabanci, Bernhard joined Enerjisa as Executive Vice Chairman of all Group Companies in 2007 and is based in Istanbul since then.

15 Statement from Bernhard Raberger: In an international comparison, Europe is leading the global energy and environment sector in terms of environmental standards, efficiency and demand side measures. Other economies have more fundamental supply side challenges to meet. Nevertheless, more and more they opt for similarly strict environmental standards and try to pursue highest efficiency so as to avoid making mistakes they can easily avoid. The leverage of related decisions and the scope to roll out innovative solutions is huge due to the sheer size and fast growth in emerging markets. The European patent system is built on the premise that you need a strong patent system to support the innovation process. This is in line with Mr Butler- Ramsahoff's views. A "strong patent" is one that has been through a stringent grant procedure and can withstand a challenge in court. Innovators can reduce their risk when they decide to apply for a patent by studying existing patents and patent applications to ensure that what they apply for really is new. All patents are published so that everyone can benefit from the information they contain. The information in a patent must disclose in detail how the invention works. The EPO offers its patent databases as a free service on the internet, so that the public can: o find out what exists and build on it o keep track of technical research and monitor competitors' patenting activity o avoid infringing other people's rights o improve that quality of their patent applications Patents are also important indicators of innovation - at national level, government statisticians look at patent trends as a measure of national innovation compared with other countries. Companies do the same to understand how they stand in the market compared with their competitors, or to identify peaks in patenting activity, and innovation gaps. In conclusion, IP protection not supports innovation by providing a reward for the investment an innovators makes, but also by putting a wealth of information into the public domain that can help innovators to reduce their investment risk.
