1 NExBTL und Fischer-Tropsch-Diesel NExBTL und Fischer-Tropsch-Diesel intelligente Dieselalternativen: ihr Emissionsverhalten und ihr Potenzial für neue Brennverfahren Ein Projekt finanziert im Rahmen der 2. Ausschreibung der Programmlinie a3plus des Forschungs- und Technologieprogramms iv2splus Zusammenfassung In einem 14 Monate dauernden Projekt wurde das Potenzial der beiden alternativen Dieselkraftstoffe NExBTL der Firma NesteOil sowie von Fischer-Tropsch Diesel aus dem Biomassekraftwerk Güssing in Hinblick auf die Absenkung der Abgasemissionen im motorischen Betrieb untersucht. Beide Kraftstoffe bieten aufgrund ihrer Aromatenfreiheit großes Potenzial zur Reduzierung von HC-, CO-, und Partikelemissionen. Am Motorprüfstand konnte gezeigt werden, dass der Vorteil bei den Rußemissionen durch eine Anpassung der Motorapplikation gezielt zu Gunsten der NO x -Emissionen verschoben werden kann. Das Potential zur Reduzierung aller limitierten Abgasemissionen kann aus der beigefügten Abbildung eindrucksvoll entnommen werden. Die Grafik zeigt vom Motor emittierte Rohemissionen in dem Niedriglastpunkt 2000 U/min und 2 bar p me (effektiver Mitteldruck). Für alle Kraftstoffmischungen können als Folge von praktisch gleichen NO x -Emissionen ebenfalls gleiche NO 2 -Emissionen beobachtet werden. Die Emissionen an nichtlimitierten Polyzyklischen Aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen (PAK) befinden sich auf solch niedrigem Niveau, dass sie sich bereits mit fossilem Diesel unter der Nachweisgrenze sowohl des FTIR-Messgerätes als auch einer nachträglich durchgeführten chemischen Analyse befinden. Auch die Aldehyde können nur durch eine chemische Analyse des Abgases nachgewiesen werden. Hier kann durch die Beimischung von NEXBTL eine weitere Reduzierung der ohnehin schon niedrigen Emissionen erreicht werden. Neben den Untersuchungen am Motorenprüfstand wurden die Kraftstoffe auch am Rollenprüfstand im neuen Europäischen Fahrzyklus (NEFZ) vermessen. Wie auf dem Motorprüfstand können auch im Fahrzyklus die HC- und CO-Emissionen deutlich reduziert werden. Allerdings findet hier eine noch stärkere Absenkung als auf dem Motorprüfstand statt. 1 NExBTL und FT-Diesel

Als Folge können im NEFZ (Neuer Europäischer Fahrzyklus) die CO 2 -Emissionen aufgrund eines niedrigeren C/H-Verhältnisses des Alternativkraftstoffes bei Einsatz in Reinform um ca. 5% reduziert werden. Zur Regeneration des Dieselpartikelfilters (DPF) sind große Mengen an spät eingespritztem Kraftstoff zur Erzeugung der notwendigen Temperaturen am Eingang des DPF notwendig. Hier muss die nacheingespritzte Menge mit reinem NExBTL gegenüber Diesel weiter angehoben werden, da aufgrund der hohen Cetanzahl eine größere Menge an Kraftstoff bereits im Motor umgesetzt wird, wodurch dieser Kraftstoff nicht im Oxidationskatalysator zur Temperaturerhöhung zur Verfügung steht. Dies hat zur Folge, dass der Eintrag von Kraftstoff in das Schmieröl mit NExBTL während dieser Einspritzstrategie im Vergleich zu Diesel weiter ansteigt. Aufgrund der reduzierten Partikelemissionen welche vom Motor produziert werden, wird die Anzahl der Regenerationsvorgange aber reduziert, und der Effekt der Ölverdünnung ist in der Gesamtheit zu beurteilen. Zusammenfassend kann gesagt werden, dass beide Kraftstoffe gut für den Einsatz in Verbrennungsmotoren geeignet sind und Potential zur Reduzierung der HC-, CO-, und Partikelemissionen besitzen. Allerdings besteht bei hohen Zumischraten die Gefahr der Ölverdünnung im Zuge der Dieselpartikelfilterregeneration. 2 NExBTL und FT-Diesel

3 Abstract The potential of two alternative Diesel fuels, NExBTL from NesteOil and Fischer-Tropsch- Diesel from Biomassekraftwerk Güssing, was investigated during the engine operation, concerning the reduction of exhaust emissions in the course of a 14 month lasting project. As result of the fact that those fuels are literally free of aromatic compounds, both fuels offer great potential to reduce HC, CO and particulate emissions. The results on the engine test rig demonstrated, that the advantage to lower particulate emissions can be transferred to favor of NO x emissions by adjusting parameters in the engine calibration. The potential to lower all restricted emissions can be seen from figure 1. The level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is on such a low level for fossil diesel fuel that it is below the detection limit of the FTIR measurement device as well as for the chemical offline analysis carried out afterwards. Aldehyde emissions can only be traced by chemical analysis, whereas a further reduction of those emissions can be obtained by the admixture of NExBTL. Besides the study on the engine test rig all fuels where investigated on the roller dynamometer as well during the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), where a significant 3 NExBTL und FT-Diesel

4 reduction of HC and CO emissions can be achieved. On the roller test bench this reduction is even higher than compared to the results from the engine test bench. There were no significant differences in the efficiency behavior for all fuels, which leads to a reduction of CO 2 emissions by 5% for pure NExBTL during the NEDC as result of a lower C/H ratio. For the regeneration of the particulate filter (DPF) high amounts of post injected fuel are necessary to produce the high temperatures upstream the DPF. For this matter the amount of post injected fuel has to be raised with pure NExBTL compared to fossil diesel, because an increasing amount of fuel is being converted inside the engine as result of the high cetane number. This means that this fuel cannot be provided to the catalyst to increase the temperature. As result, the amount of fuel being inserted into the lube oil is increasing with NExBTL compared to fossil diesel during this injection strategy. After the engine produces less soot when NExBTL is used, the number of regenerations of the particulate filter is being reduced. This means that the effect of oil dilution hast to be evaluated regarding the whole vehicle. To sum up, both fuels are well suited for the use in an internal combustion engine and result in a reduction of HC, CO and particulate emissions. Although, when high admixing rates are used, there is an increasing risk of oil dilution during the particulate filter regeneration. Kontaktdaten: 4 NExBTL und FT-Diesel
