2 RIVA1920_NATURALLIVING.IT RIVA 1920 da anni persegue l obbiettivo di utilizzare solo legni di riforestazione, legni provenienti da fornitori che aderiscono al programma SmartWood Certified Forestry creato per la tutela e la gestione responsabile delle risorse forestali. Per contribuire concretamente, seppur in minima parte, a mantenere le nostre foreste patrimonio di tutti, RIVA 1920 vi invita ad aderire al progetto NATURAL LIVING: ogni acquirente di un prodotto della collezione Riva 1920 riceverà in dono un piccolo alberello, coltivato a partire dal seme in vivai appositamente creati e consegnato in una scatola di legno. La pianta adottata risarcirà nel corso degli anni la natura per il legno utilizzato nella produzione del mobile acquistato. Per chi, pur aderendo al progetto, non sarà in grado di mettere a dimora la piantina non avendo un habitat adatto abbiamo pensato all adozione a distanza. 6 KAURI MILLENARIO DELLE PALUDI, LEGNO DALL ANIMA ANTICA KAURI - LA STORIA C é il soffio di un tempo infinito nel legno Kauri, l albero più grande e famoso della Nuova Zelanda, una conifera che vive solo in climi sub tropicali. L Agathis australis, questo il suo nome scientifico, comparve nel periodo giurassico in Nuova Zelanda, prima che l orma di un uomo solcasse il pianeta e si sviluppò in rigogliose foreste. Cataclismi e sconvolgimenti naturali alla fine dell ultima era glaciale hanno abbattuto intere foreste ricoprendole poi con acqua e fango. E proprio da quelle paludi, da una culla di fango, il Kauri é risorto a nuova vita: splendido ed intatto, come se fosse appena stato tagliato. A conservare intatto il Kauri e ad impedire il naturale processo di decomposizione é un insieme di fattori, tra cui sembra avere un ruolo fondamentale la resina, presente in grande quantità. Secondo recenti studi, infatti, la resina ha una funzione curativa ed impermeabilizzante che rende la corteccia inattaccabile alle muffe e all acqua. Il Kauri millenario si trova in veri e propri giacimenti paludosi nel Nord della Nuova Zelanda. Una volta rinvenuto il sito contenente l antico legno si procede al recupero di alcuni campioni per la datazione attraverso il sistema del carbonio 14. La datazione dei legni varia dai 7 mila ai 50 mila anni fa e la differenza d età ne determina diverse tonalità di colore. KAURI - THE HISTORY The Kauri millenarian swamp - Timber with an Ancient Soul. There is a breath of infinite time in Kauri timber, the largest and most famous New Zealand tree, a conifer that thrives only in sub-tropical climates. "Agathis Australis" is the scientific name for a tree that appeared during the Jurassic period before man had set foot on the earth and which grew in virgin forests. Cataclysms and natural disasters, which took place at the end of the glacial period, razed entire forests, covering them with water and mud. And, it is from these swamps, a nest of mud, that Kauri has come to life again, splendid and in tact as though it had just been felled. The conservation of the Kauri and the slowing of the natural decomposition process takes into account various factors and those factors which seem to have a fundamental role are the large quantities of resins present in the timber. According to recent studies, the resin contains certain remedial and impermeable ingredients which protect the bark from mould and water. The millennium Kauri is found only in the genuine swamp regions in the north of New Zealand. Once a site has been identified, samples are taken for carbon dating 14. The dating of the various timbers, which ranges from 7 thousand to 50 thousand years, is determined by the diverse colour tones of the timber. KAURI - DIE GESCHCHTE Das tausendjährige Kauriholz, Holz mit der alten Seele. Eine Spur der ewigen Zeit finden wir im Holz von Kauri, dem größten und bekanntesten Baum in Neuseeland, der zur Nadelbaumgruppe gehört, die nur im Tropenklima beheimat ist. Der unter dem wissenschaftlichen Namen Agathis australis bekannte Kauri findet seinen Ursprung in der jurassischen Periode in Neuseeland, bevor der Mensch den Planeten betrat und entwickelte sich zu üppigen Wäldern. Am Ende der letzten Eiszeit wurden ganze Waldbestände durch Naturkatastrophen und Verwüstungen zerstört und unter Wasser und Schlamm begraben. Genau in diesen Moorgebieten erblühte der Kauribaum zu neuem Leben, als wäre er gerade geschnitten worden. Verschiedene Faktoren, unter denen das in großen Mengen vorhandene Harz eine wichtige Rolle spielt, haben es diesem Holz ermöglicht, die natürlichen Zersetzungsvorgänge zu überleben. Die neuesten Forschungen haben ergeben, dass Harz eine heilende und Wasser abweisende Funktion besitzt und die Baumrinde gegen Schimmel und Wasser schützt. Der tausendjährige Kauri befindet sich im Norden Neuseelands. Wird das Holz gefunden, dann werden einige Muster für die Datierung mittels der Karboniumanwendungsmethode 14 genommen. Die Datierung variiert zwischen 7000 und Jahren und das Alter bestimmt die verschiedenen Farbtöne des Holzes. L età di questo legno millenario può variare dai ai anni. Le particolari caratteristiche del fango in cui il legno è stato sepolto e la mancanza di ossigeno nel terreno hanno permesso a questo legno di non subire alcun processo di fossilizzazione rimanendo splendido e intatto fino ai giorni nostri, come fosse appena tagliato. E assolutamente una normale caratteristica di questo legno, anzi, prerogativa di inimitabilità del prodotto, che in tavole di legno KAURI MILLENARIO dell età di circa anni, vi possano essere delle crepe e delle spaccature naturali e accidentali. Desideriamo sottolineare che non sarà motivo di reclamo qualsiasi contestazione riguardante movimenti del legno, crepe sul piano e ogni variazione che può subire il legno KAURI in quanto non dipendenti dalla nostra volontà e impossibili da prevedere. Desideriamo quindi informare con chiarezza il nostro Cliente che il prodotto che sta acquistando non può essere paragonato a un normale tavolo in legno ma a qualcosa di straordinario, unico al mondo e inimitabile: una vera e propria opera d arte creata dalla Natura e come tale deve essere accettata. E importante sapere che se viene scelta una tavola da una fotografia non può essere in alcun modo garantito che la tavola possa mantenere le medesime caratteristiche anche al momento della consegna. Essa infatti può subire movimenti, presentare nuove crepe derivate da un naturale assestamento del legno KAURI, dalla sua essiccazione o in base alle diverse condizioni ambientali. USEFULL INFORMATION FOR KAURI WOOD TABLES This product is made of ancient swamp KAURI from New Zealand, wood that has lain buried in the earth for thousands of years. This wood may vary in age from 7,000 to 50,000 years old. The special character of the mud in which this wood has been buried and the lack of oxygen in the soil have meant that no fossilization has taken place and the wood remains splendid and in tact still today, as if it had just been cut. It is a perfectly normal feature of this wood, indeed it is one of the unique aspects of this product, that lengths of ANCIENT KAURI wood that are about 30,000 years old may have cracks in them, as well as natural splits and dents. We would like to point out that this cannot be grounds for any complaint regarding the movement, surface cracks or unevenness of the KAURI wood, since this is neither the result of our actions nor predictable. We would therefore like to be perfectly clear in informing our Customers that the product they are about to acquire cannot be compared to a normal wooden table. Rather it should be considered as something extraordinary, unique and inimitable: a genuine work of art created by the hand of Nature and be valued as such. It is important to realise that if a table is chosen from a photograph there can be no guarantee that the table will remain unchanged in every way right down to the moment of delivery. Indeed, it might undergo movement, manifest new cracks as a result of the natural settling of the KAURI wood, its drying out or various other environmental factors. WICHTIGE ANWEISUNGEN FÜR KAURI TISCHE Dieses Produkt besteht aus tausendjährigem Kauriholz aus Sumpfgebieten aus Neuseeland. Ein Holz, das nach über tausenden von Jahren dem Erdboden entnommen wurde. Das Alter dieses tausendjährigen Holzes liegt zwischen und Jahren. Die besondere Moorbeschaffenheit und der Sauerstoffmangel des Bodens haben es diesem Holz ermöglicht, ohne Fossilisationseinwirkungen, bis zur heutigen Zeit schön zu bleiben, als wäre es jetzt erst gefällt worden. Bei diesem tausendjährigen Kauriholz (ca Jahre) sind natürliche und unvorhergesehene Risse und Spalten absolut normale und unnachahmliche Eigenschaften. Wir möchten deshalb darauf aufmerksam machen, dass eventuelle Bewegungen, Risse und Zustandsveränderungen des Holzes, die mit der Zeit auftreten können, natur- und umweltbedingt sind und nicht als Ursache oder als Mangel angerechnet werden. Wir möchten unseren Kunden darauf hinweisen, dass es sich bei diesem Produkt nicht um einen normalen Holztisch, sondern um etwas Außergewöhnliches, Einzigartiges und Unnachahmliches UNIKAT handelt: ein wahres Kunstwerk der Natur und als solches muss es akzeptiert werden. Es ist wichtig zu wissen, dass bei einer Wahl einer fotografierten Platte die vollkommene Übereinstimmung mit dem Original bei der Lieferung nicht gewährleistet werden kann. Denn diese kann neue Risse durch Trocknen und natürliche und umweltbedingte Einwirkungen aufweisen. 8 9

Si tratta di una tavola unica di legno KAURI. Le dimensioni (lunghezza, larghezza e spessore) e la forma della tavola sono quelle originali ottenute dal taglio del tronco. Questa versione presuppone l accettazione da parte del cliente che le misure potrebbero non corrispondere al centimetro rispetto a quelle richieste. E quindi necessario, prima dell ordine, verificare la disponibilità delle varie tavole a disposizione in magazzino. B) Piano tavolo KAURI pezzo unico con lati squadrati. Si tratta di una tavola unica di legno KAURI. Le dimensioni della tavola (lunghezza, larghezza e spessore) sono quelle ottenute dal taglio del tronco. In seguito vengono squadrati i quattro lati per ottenere una forma del piano del tavolo rettangolare. Questa versione presuppone l accettazione da parte del cliente che le misure del tavolo, essendo la tavola un pezzo unico, potrebbero non corrispondere al centimetro rispetto a quelle richieste. E quindi necessario, prima dell ordine, verificare la disponibilità delle varie tavole a disposizione in magazzino. AUCKLAND table with KAURI wood table top can be ordered with the following finishes: TABLE TOP SPECIFICATIONS: A) One-piece original KAURI top. This is a top made of a single board of KAURI wood. This is a top made of a single board of KAURI wood. The dimensions (length, width and thickness) and the shape of the board will be determined by the cut made of the trunk. In a second operation, the four sides will be squared off to obtain a rectangular form to the table top. This version presupposes that the customer accepts that the measurements might not correspond down to the last centimetre to what was requested, given that the top is composed of a single piece. It is, therefore, necessary - before accepting the order to check the availability of different sized boards in our stores. Daher muss vor der Bestellung der Lagerbestand der verschiedenen Platten überprüft werden. C) Piano tavolo KAURI composto con lati squadrati. Si tratta di più tavole in legno KAURI, squadrate e incollate insieme per realizzare la misura del piano del tavolo desiderata. Es handelt sich um mehrere Platten aus KAURIHOLZ, die gekantet und zusammengeleimt wurden, um die gewünschten Maße der Tischplatte zu erhalten. Daher muss vor der Bestellung der Lagerbestand der verschiedenen Platten überprüft werden. Il concetto che sta alla base del progetto HAKA è la volontà di creare una struttura autostabile: una sorta di capriata del tavolo che rende deferente omaggio alle meravigliose strutture di Leonardo da Vinci. Una piccola architettura che esordisce con il binomio legno e metallo sempre nell ottica dell utilizzo di materiali puri, spessi e forti come il legno massello. Il fulcro del progetto è incentrato sulla congiunzione dei due elementi gamba e piano disponibili in diverse combinazioni ma soprattutto in diverse misure e tipologie.
