9 What are Development Partnerships with the Private Sector (DPP)? Pilot projects implemented and financed by a private entity together with GIZ: a) centrally through the developpp.de facility in Germany b) within the scope of ongoing bilateral intergovernmental aid programs like PAKLIM By joining forces and realizing synergies, combination and achievement of commercial objectives and development policy goals Enhance private sector s investment to promote sustainable development Provide the private sector with the access to instruments and to the know-how of the development cooperation Facilitate in know-how transfer from the private partner to project beneficiaries Responsibility, costs, and risks are borne jointly by involved parties

Supply chain approach (here: in apparel & footwear factories) to training on energy mngt. & auditing, measuring & reporting Capacity builiding approach for local service providers Implementation of financially feasible EE measures Implementation of mitigation technology NAMA in urban areas, i.e. through testing of EE/ LED street lighting development of a handbook for energy, cost & CO 2 savings through LED street lighting Supporting Voluntary Partnership Agreements between cement industry & GOI through inputs for improved regulatory conditions increased capacities of relevant industry actors to realize mitigation actions

Asia) 05/ /2013 Volume: PAKLIM: Challenge The industry sector accounts for high amounts of GHG emissions due to energy consumption, inefficient production processes, industrial waste. High need & potential for energy efficiency (EE) measures. Approach Capacity building for service providers and training & technical assistance for 16 suppliers in the apparel & footwear industries. Energy audits and tools for the measurement, monitoring and reporting of energy performance. Implementation of financially feasible EE measures. Impact Qualified service providers, enhanced capacities of selected suppliers and reduction of the factories environmental footprint. Model for the measurement and reporting of climate-related values in supply chains available. Private partner s benefits: Improved environmental/ energy performance of core suppliers Contribution to adidas group s global sustainability strategy/ targets

14 DPP project examples Indonesia Energy Saving Movement Private partner: PT OSRAM Indonesia 12/ /2011 Volume: Public: Challenge > 19% of total energy consumption is attributed to the use of artificial light. Common use of energy wasting light bulbs. Approach Integrated approach that includes an upgrade of lighting systems at selected schools and households combined with educational measures on energy efficiency. Students participate in math and essay competitions with focus on energy saving. Nationwide media campaign about energy efficiency. Impact Energy consumption has successfully been decreased by > 50%. The learning module about energy efficiency is being implemented in vocational schools and will be part of lessons for more than students. Private partner s benefits: Increased EE awareness, more knowledge on the respective measures and technologies, incl. Osram s own products Increased sales in Indonesia

15 DPP project examples Indonesia Energy Efficient Street Lighting / LED Street Lighting Private partner: PT OSRAM Indonesia 05/ /2012 Volume: PAKLIM: Challenge Lack of efficient energy due to outdated technologies in commercial and residential buildings as well as public infrastructural services. High potential for cost and energy savings in urban areas. Approach Assessment of techn. & economic feasibility of LED street lighting. Replacement of conventional lights by LED based on an adequate metering system, lighting management, and a consumption-based payment for the energy used by public street lighting. Identification of financing options for local governments. Development of a handbook for energy, cost and CO 2 savings through LED street lighting. Impact Provides a model for NAMA on the energy demand side. Cities are able to properly measure used energy and reduce local energy costs. Private partner s benefits: LED street lighting as part of local climate change action plans increased public support & demand for the respective technology Increased sales in Indonesia
