1 PRESS RELEASE APG AND EPEX SPOT JOINTLY FOSTER MARKET INTEGRATION FOR INTRADAY TRADING IN AUSTRIA Vienna/Paris, 16 April 2012 The Austrian Transmission System Operator, Austrian Power Grid AG (APG), and the European Power Exchange EPEX SPOT SE have initiated a common project aiming at the development and tighter integration of Austria in the European electricity market. As EPEX SPOT s trusted partner for clearing, Europe s central clearing house for energy, European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC), is also working closely with APG and EPEX SPOT to achieve this goal. In a first step, EPEX SPOT will open an Intraday market in the control zone of APG. While the hub will be set-up as an independent market, it will be connected to the German and French Intraday markets of EPEX SPOT from the start via an interface provided by APG. Furthermore, trading on the Austrian hub will be possible on the basis of the same harmonized trading system and rules as for the German and French markets. Not only intraday trading within Austria will be facilitated: Austrian, French and German market participants will also benefit directly from the pooled liquidity of these Intraday markets, with a facilitated and secured access to cross-border trading. The already existing mechanism for cross-border schedules nomination will not be affected by this new development and remain transparently available for all interested market participants. Physical and financial settlement of the transactions concluded on EPEX SPOT markets will be provided by ECC, offering to market participants an integrated and automated clearing process, together with the benefits of an important network of partners and maximum crossmargining effects from all EPEX SPOT markets. This first project step sets the basis for a second development phase, leading to even more significant improvements of cross-border intraday trading between Germany and Austria: APG and EPEX SPOT have already started working with other concerned parties to

2 synchronize as far as possible the local and cross-border trading gate closure times on the Power Exchange, in order to enable cross-border trading closer to real-time. The existence of an organized Intraday market in Austria is a prerequisite and an important milestone for implementing the Pan-European Target Model for continuous implicit Intraday trading, as described in the ACER Framework Guidelines on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management. This crucial development will further integrate the Austrian and German Intraday markets, resulting into further liquidity pooling and allowing the market participants to better balance the open commercial positions close to real-time. 3 PRESSEMITTEILUNG APG UND EPEX SPOT FÖRDERN GEMEINSAM MARKTINTEGRATION FÜR INTRADAY-HANDEL IN ÖSTERREICH Wien/Paris, 16. April 2012 Der österreichische Übertragungsnetzbetreiber, Austrian Power Grid AG (APG), und die europäische Strombörse EPEX SPOT SE haben ihre Zusammenarbeit vertieft, um den österreichischen Strommarkt weiterzuentwickeln und stärker in den europäischen Strommarkt zu integrieren. Als EPEX SPOTs zuverlässiger Partner für Clearing arbeitet auch Europas zentrales Clearinghaus für Energieprodukte, die European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC), eng mit APG und EPEX SPOT zusammen, um dieses Ziel zu verwirklichen. In einem ersten Schritt eröffnet EPEX SPOT in der Regelzone von APG einen Intraday- Markt. Er wird zwar als eigenständiger Markt eingerichtet, jedoch von Anfang an durch eine Schnittstelle von APG mit dem deutschen und französischen Intraday-Markt verbunden. Darüber hinaus wird der Handel auf dem österreichischen Markt auf denselben harmonisierten Handelssystemen und Regeln aufbauen wie im deutschen und französischen Marktgebiet. Damit wird nicht nur der Intraday-Handel innerhalb Österreichs verbessert: Handelsteilnehmer aus Österreich, Deutschland und Frankreich werden direkt von der konzentrierten Liquidität dieser Intraday-Märkte profitieren, dank eines vereinfachten und sicheren Zugangs zum grenzüberschreitenden Handel. Die bereits existierenden Mechanismen für die Nominierung von grenzüberschreitenden Fahrplänen sind von dieser Entwicklung nicht betroffen und bleiben transparent für alle interessierten Marktteilnehmer verfügbar. Physische und finanzielle Erfüllung der Transaktionen auf den Märkten von EPEX SPOT werden von ECC bereitgestellt. Sie bietet Börsenmitgliedern einen integrierten und automatisierten Clearingprozess und die Vorteile eines wichtigen Netzwerks von Partnern sowie maximaler Cross-Margining-Effekte von allen EPEX SPOT-Märkten.

4 Dieser erste Schritt des Projekts legt den Grundstein für eine zweite Entwicklungsphase, die zu weiteren deutlichen Verbesserungen des grenzüberschreitenden Handels zwischen Deutschland und Österreich führen wird: APG und EPEX SPOT arbeiten mit anderen beteiligten Parteien daran, die lokalen und die grenzüberschreitenden Handelsschlusszeiten an der Strombörse so weit wie möglich zu synchronisieren, um grenzüberschreitenden Handel näher am Lieferzeitpunkt zu ermöglichen. Die Existenz eines organisierten Intraday-Markts in Österreich ist eine Voraussetzung und ein wichtiger Meilenstein für die Umsetzung des gesamteuropäischen Zielmodells für kontinuierlichen impliziten Intraday-Handel, wie er in den ACER Framework Guidelines für Kapazitätsvergabe und Engpassmanagement beschrieben ist. Diese entscheidende Entwicklung wird den österreichischen und deutschen Intraday-Markt stärker zusammenführen, weiter Liquidität bündeln und Marktteilnehmern eine bessere Ausbalancierung offener Handelspositionen nah am Lieferzeitpunkt ermöglichen. Abhängig von ausstehenden Tests ist der Start des österreichischen Intraday-Marktes für den Beginn des dritten Quartals 2012 geplant. 6 COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE APG ET EPEX SPOT PROMEUVENT L INTEGRATION DES MARCHÉS DANS LE CADRE DE LA NÉGOCIATION INFRAJOURNALIÈRE EN AUTRICHE Vienne/Paris, 16 avril 2012 Le gestionnaire de réseau de transport, Austrian Power Grid AG (APG), et la bourse européenne de l électricité EPEX SPOT SE ont lancé un nouveau projet visant à développer et renforcer l intégration de l Autriche dans le marché de l électricité européen. Partenaire de confiance d EPEX SPOT, la chambre de compensation européenne pour l énergie, European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC), travaille également étroitement avec APG et EPEX SPOT pour atteindre cet objectif. Dans un premier temps, EPEX SPOT ouvrira un marché infrajournalier dans la zone de contrôle d APG. Connecté dès son lancement aux marchés infrajournaliers allemand et français d EPEX SPOT, grâce à une interface fournie par APG, ce hub sera donc mis en place comme un marché indépendant et intégré. La négociation sur le hub autrichien sera organisé sur le même système de négociation que celui offert pour les marchés allemand et français, et sur la base de règles de marché harmonisées. Ainsi, la négociation infrajournalière en Autriche ne sera pas uniquement facilitée en local : les membres des marchés autrichien, français et allemand de la bourse bénéficieront de la liquidité consolidée de tous ces marchés, et d un accès simplifié et sécurisé à la négociation transfrontalière. Le mécanisme existant des nominations transfrontalières ne sera pas affecté par ce nouveau développement et demeurera accessible de manière transparente à tous les membres de marché intéressés. Le règlement physique et financier des transactions conclues sur les marchés d EPEX SPOT sera assuré par ECC, offrant aux membres du marché un processus de compensation intégré et automatisé, les avantages d un important réseau de partenaires et des effets de netting maximum sur les appels de marges gérées de manière consolidées pour tous les marchés d EPEX SPOT.

7 Cette première phase de projet pose les fondements d une seconde phase de développement, permettant d améliorer de manière encore plus significative la négociation infrajournalière transfrontalière entre l Allemagne et l Autriche : APG et EPEX SPOT ont déjà commencé à travailler avec les parties concernées pour synchroniser, dans la mesure du possible, l heure de clôture de la négociation transfrontalière avec les heures de clôture locales sur la bourse, afin de permettre une négociation transfrontalière encore plus proche du temps réel. L existence d un marché infrajournalier organisé en Autriche est un préalable ainsi qu une étape clé dans la mise en place du modèle cible paneuropéen pour la négociation infrajournalière continue implicite, telle que décrite dans les orientations-cadres de l ACER sur l allocation des capacités et la gestion des congestions. Ce développement fondamental va permettre de poursuivre l intégration des marchés infrajournaliers autrichien et allemand, conduisant à une plus grande consolidation de la liquidité, et permettant aux membres de marché de mieux équilibrer leurs positions au plus près de l heure de livraison. Sous conditions de la réussite des tests, le lancement du marché infrajournalier autrichien est prévu au début du troisième trimestre EPEX SPOT communiquera de plus amples informations sur les modalités de négociation dans les prochaines semaines. *** Austrian Power Grid AG (APG) est le gestionnaire de réseaux de transport indépendant en Autriche et est responsable du réseau haute-tension national.
