2 ALPEN-ADRIA-UNIVERSITÄT KLAGENFURT (AAU) Die AAU ist eine lebendige und innovative Universität am Schnittpunkt dreier Kulturen. 4 O B L I G A T O R Y & I M P O R T A N T INFORMATION ON LECTURES AND COURSES FOR THE MCM PROGRAM AND BEYOND Class registration (and acceptance into class) is only possible after the group enrollment on October 2, :00 a.m. All students enrolled in the MCM program are guaranteed a place in the lectures that present a fixed component of the Master s degree program curriculum. For classes that do not present a fixed program component (Electives and Optional Subjects): in case all places are taken or registration is not active anymore, please directly contact the classes lecturers and ask them for acceptance. Also offer them an explanation for your late registration, referring to your late enrollment at university. (We will be informing them as well.) MOODLE Moodle ist ein Course Management System (CMS - deutsch: Kursverwaltungssystem), auch bekannt als ein Learning Management System (LMS - deutsch: Lernmanagementsystem) oder ein Virtual Learning Environment (VLE - deutsch: Virtuelle Lernumgebung). Moodle ist eine freie Webapplikation, die Lehrende zur Gestaltung von Seiten für effektives Online-Lernen nutzen können./ Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Furthermore you can get canteen-coupons there. The Service Center is located in the main building near the main entrance, in front of Lecture Hall 2 (room Z.1.28a). Entrée: Entrée supports incoming exchange students at the Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt with problems and questions in a foreign country. The Entrée-Team encourages local students to go abroad and to integrate incoming students in to local student life. There is also a buddy-program for students from abroad, where you can register. Buddys welcome the new students, shows them around and act as a contact person and friend. 8 Universitätsbibliothek/ University Library Universitätsangehörige können die Lesesäle der Bibliothek 24 Stunden ab Tag nützen. 11 O B L I G A T O R Y & I M P O R T A N T Meldepflicht in Österreich/ Obligatory Registration of Place Residency Innerhalb von 3 Tagen (es zählen nur Werktage) nach Ankunft in Österreich sowie bei einem Unterkunftswechsel muss die Anmeldung beim zuständigen Meldeamt erfolgen. Wer umzieht oder Österreich verlässt, muss sich beim Meldeamt um- bzw. abmelden./ Every person is obliged to register his/her address at the respective local Municipal Office within three working days after arrival in Austria, as well as after any change of residency. When moving to another address in Austria or before departing from Austria the local Municipal Office has to be informed. Anmeldung/ Registration Das Formular Meldezettel findet ihr unter folgendem Link: Füllt das Dokument aus, unterschreibt es und bittet euren Vermieter/Heimleiter das Formular auch zu unterschreiben. 12 O B L I G A T O R Y & I M P O R T A N T Residence Permit for Non-EU/EEA Citizens ( AUFENTHALTSBEWILLIGUNG ) Each student in Austria who comes from a Non-European Union member state has to have a valid student visa (type C or D) on entry to Austria, if he/she is staying for a period shorter than 6 months. Students staying for two semesters have to apply for a Residence Permit for Students. In order to apply for a Residence Permit for Students, the following documents are required: 2 recent passport-sized photographs, size between 3.5 x 4.5 cm and 4 x 5 cm passport - must be valid at least three months beyond the date of arrival in Klagenfurt the (preliminary) Acceptance Letter, Zulassungsbescheid, from the Alpen-Adria- Universität Klagenfurt housing confirmation, which will be sent to the student by our housing coordinator Student Health Insurance*, which students can apply for immediately after receiving their student ID from the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt at the semester start (current costs 52,68 per month, subject to change without notice) proof of sufficient financial means to afford the living costs for the duration of the stay (but only for a maximum of one year in advance): For students up to 24 years of age this is currently 473,70 per month, for students over 24 years of age 857,73 per month [as of 2013]. In case your rent is higher than 267,64 per month (subject to change without notice), additional funds may have to be proved. copy of birth certificate police clearance (certificate of good conduct) the student visa is 120,-- (subject to change without notice) Please note that not applying for the Aufenthaltsbewilligung violates Austrian law and will have severe consequences for you! 6

13 Confirmation of Registration for EU/EEA and Swiss Citizens ( ANMELDEBESCHEINIGUNG ) Since January , all EU/EEA and Swiss citizens staying for more than 3 months in Austria must register within 3 months after their arrival at the Administrative District Authority Immigration office (Bezirkshauptmannschaft Klagenfurt Völkermarkter Ring 19, 9020 Klagenfurt) and obtain a confirmation of registration ( Anmeldebescheinigung ). In order to receive this confirmation the following documents are required: valid identification card or passport residence registration form issued by the Administrative District Authority in Klagenfurt ( Bestätigung der Meldung ) proof of health insurance covering all the necessary costs, e.g. European Health Insurance Card ( Krankenversicherung ) proof of sufficient financial means from your bank or the Erasmus scholarship from your home university ( Bankauszug or Bestätigung über das Erasmus Stipendium ) confirmation of admission from Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt ( Studienbestätigung ) passport photo the Anmeldebescheinigung is (subject to change without notice). Impfschema: Erste Impfung im März, zweite Impfung ca. 4 Wochen später (Auffrischung nach einem Jahr, später alle fünf Jahre) If you spend at least one summer term (March July) at the AAU, it is strongly recommended to get a vaccination against the FSME virus (tick borne encephalitis). It is available for approximately 22 per injection (subject to change without notice). The first injection is given in March, followed by a second vaccination four weeks later and a third vaccination after one year. This immunization lasts for five years. 10
