But the Resource Transition is coming, and wood will increasingly become an important building material once again. In many cases, the mindset of an established construction culture is the reason for the skepticism shown towards modern and eco-friendly solutions in wood. And yet wood is a construction material that offers property developers and clients not only considerable savings in terms of carbon emissions but also absolute reliability in terms of building service life and additional flexibility in the use of the building. As with all construction materials, the correct use of the materials and the workmanship are critical factors for success. With the help of examples from Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France, this EFTC seminar will address the conditions and factors that are decisive for the successful planning, building and use of wooden buildings. 9 WoodWisdom-Net: CO 2 wood in carbon-efficient construction This project ran from 2011 to 2013 as an international cooperative project involving research institutes from Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria and Italy. It was funded through the European WoodWisdom.net research program and implemented in collaboration with wood construction companies. Wood construction research Many of the attendees at the International Wood Construction Conference work in R&D in the timber industry and especially in the field of wood construction. Timber research has been added to the IHF program as an international platform for presenting the latest results of research, initiating a dialogue with businesses and launching new research projects. As a natural and renewable resource, wood has qualities that are vital to our survival. If wood as a building material did not exist, we would have to invent it. All actors in the construction industry are accordingly called upon to ensure that wood plays a greater role as a construction material than in the recent past.
