Brücken, Tunnel, Staudämme u.a. mit verteilten faseroptischen Belastungs-, Vibrationsoder Rissdetektoren (z.b. wurden bereits 1987 in einer Düsseldorfer Autobahnbrücke faseroptische Dehnungssensoren auf der Basis speziell ummantelter Lichtleiter durch die Firmen Strabag und Felten-Guilleaume installiert) Entwicklung komplexer faseroptischer Überwachungssysteme auf Bohrinseln, in Bergwerken (z.b. Methangas-Detektion), Kernkraftwerken (z.b. ortsauflösende Kernstrahlungs-Dosimetrie), in Chemieanlagen und anderen explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen Aktivitäten zur Einbettung von Lichtleitfasern als Sensoren in Verbund- Werkstoffe für Flugzeug- und Schiffbau, Bauindustrie. (z.b. Fa. SICOM Köln) und andere Bereiche.
19 Einsatzbeispiele faseroptischer Sensoren (V) UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES V4-19 Weitere Einsatzfelder Darüber hinaus finden insbesondere chemische und biochemische Fasersensoren künftig auch in der Umweltmesstechnik (Fernmessung von Schadstoffkonzentrationen in der Luft und im Wasser) sowie in der Biotechnologie Anwendung. Auch in der Geophysik zeichnen sich interessante Einsatzmöglichkeiten ab (z.b. verteilte faseroptische Seismometer oder Bohrlochsensoren). Ein weiteres attraktives Anwendungsgebiet der Fasersensorik könnte künftig auch der Automobilbau (z.b. Faserkreisel u.a.) werden. Mit der in den nächsten Jahren zu erwartenden Einführung des Lichtleiter-Datenbus im Fahrzeug wird sich auch ein Bedarf an kompatiblen Sensoren ergeben, allerdings dürften hier vor allem die Anforderungen bezüglich eines niedrigen Preises besonders hart sein.
