This presentation provides an overview of everything that's new and relevant to z/vm, z/vse, KVM and Linux on IBM z Systems GS03 z/vm V6.4 News Rob van der Heij, IBM US We'll take a look at what's new for z/vm this year. This will include z/vm support for the IBM z13 and exploitation of SMT as well as new Virtual Switch Capability and some aspects of z/vm 6.4 GS04 Learn how to Maximize the Value of the Mainframe (z/vse / z Systems) using SOAP and REST Wilson Rains, GT Software This presentation focuses on how mainframe integration and Web services best practices can drive maximum value from your existing mainframe investments, while cutting costs. Wilson Rains will stress why having choices for how services are developed, from what can be included, to how the services are called, and where the services are run, are critical to maximize investments while containing costs. Discover how to drive more value from existing mainframe investments without recoding or reworking existing applications. Rains will also explore ways to leverage Linux on z and specialty engines to control MIPS and cut costs. GS05 Become a Cognitive Business with IBM z Systems Dr. Manfred Gnirss, IBM R & D Cognitive Computing drives businesses to new heights and IBM z Systems with Linux and its heterogeneous workload landscape exploit the strengths and solutions for Cognitive Computing. The session shows you how to evolve to Cognitive Computing and how IBM can help you achieve this with IBM z Systems. GS06 Network Folding, the technology you didn t know you can t live without John Rankin, CSI International TCP, is one of the most important protocols of the Internet, and was originally designed in Thirty-five years ago the designers never considered how complex, high speed, and excessively important the Internet would become for our daily lives. By 1996, the research scientists at Sun Microsystems had identified the most important threat to the stability and smooth operation of Networking; however, their work to fix this problem has been proven to have failed. Today, smooth transportation of data over the internet does not exist. There are few users who are not unaware of periodic transportation problems, retransmissions, data start and stops, and complete internet locking. On May 24 th, 2016, CSI International was granted its first United States Patent, in a series of Network Folding Patents that will eliminate the unreliable nature of the Internet. This presentation will present the ground breaking work that CSI International is doing, to correct the problems that have festered within the Internet for Thirty-five years. Without this important new Network Folding initiative, the network failures, that were predicted by Sun Microsystems over twenty years ago, will only grow more devastating to Internet traffic and commerce. GS07 Virtualization, Container and Cloud Deployment - A Positioning Dr. Basil Moshous, IBM In a cloud environment shared processing, network and storage resources are provided on demand to services. The goal of a cloud is to dynamically provision and de-provision resources in a way, that all available resources are used. But how can this be achieved with minimal management effort and in a highly efficient manner? We will discuss two approaches which are often used for cloud environments: virtualization and containers. We will pinpoint the differences and the challenges in respect of a cloud deployment and operation.

GS09 Software Solutions News Moderation: Gonzalo Muelas Serrano, IBM R & D GS10 KVM on IBM z Systems News Tony Gargya, IBM R & D KVM on IBM z Systems is a hypervisor for the mainframe running Linux as virtual machines. This presentation gives an overview on capabilities and their meaning for a z Systems environment and highlights some of the news and recent development of this product. GS11 Linux on IBM z Systems News Dr. Manfred Gnirss, IBM R & D In this session, we will discuss all the latest news about Linux on IBM z Systems. GS12 DB2 LUW V11.1 News Torsten Röber, IBM This presentation will inform you about new functions and enhancements being made available with the most recent DB2 for Linux, Unix and Windows version. The new Version 11 became available in June, so at the date of this conference, it will be just 4 month 'old'. But in addition to the technical information, we will try to give some first impressions and experiences from early adopters. GS13 Customer Experiences Managing the z/vm and Linux on IBM z Systems Infrastructure Michael Sine, IBM US Whether implementing cloud or supporting server consolidation projects, customers are implementing mission-critical applications on Linux on z Systems and LinuxONE. This session focuses on real customer problems and associated solutions with managing this new infrastructure, including monitoring messages, monitoring spool space, sending alerts, automatically fixing issues, and backing up and recovering critical data. GS14 Customer Experience: When a Linux admin meets an IBM z13 Benjamin Zimmermann, Volkswagen AG, Germany GS15 Blockchain for Business Elke Kunde, IBM Blockchain is a technology for a new generation of transactional applications that establishes trust, accountability and transparency while streamlining business processes. It is a design pattern made famous by bitcoin, but its uses go far beyond. It has the potential to vastly reduce the cost and complexity of cross-enterprise business processes. The distributed ledger makes it easier to create cost-efficient business networks where virtually anything of value can be tracked and traded without requiring a central point of control.

3 Forum for International Audience IS01 z/vse latest News Ingolf Salm, IBM R & D This session provides details about the latest announcements and z/vse 6.1 release content. It focuses on ease of use, security, networking, hardware exploitation and connectivity to Linux on z Systems and other platforms. I will also discuss statements of general directions (SODs) made for future releases. IS02 Virtualisation Options with DPM, z/vm and KVM on IBM z Systems Arwed Tschoeke, IBM R & D This session summarizes all new virtualisation features introduced recently on the z Systems architecture. IS03 z/vse Network Appliance Ingo Franzki, IBM R & D This session gives an introduction and a closer look into the new z/vse Network Appliance (zvna). The z/vse Network Appliance (VNA) is an integrated solution, that provides TCP/IP stack functionality for z/vse systems running in LPAR mode. It builds on the Fast Path to Linux on z Systems function and allows TCP/IP socket applications to access the network without requiring a TCP/IP stack on z/vse. The z/vse Network Appliance uses the z Appliance Container Infrastructure (zaci), which was introduced on IBM z13 and IBM z13s servers. It has been available since June 30, 2016 and can be used with z/vse V5.1, and higher. IS04 Analytics on Linux on IBM z Systems Arwed Tschoeke, IBM R & D IBM delivers modifications and enhancements to Open Source platforms. In this session I will show you features and functions of solutions available on z Systems. In addition, I will show an example how Hadoop can provide new insights without large investments in terms of resources or effort. VM02 Docker Container in Linux on IBM z Systems - Neuigkeiten mit Demo Utz Bacher, IBM R & D Docker als Container-Deployment-Technologie ist auch Mainframe verfügbar. Der Vortrag stellt Neuerungen und Entwicklungen rund um Container-Technologie, Docker und das Container-Ökosystem vor und setzt sie in Bezug zur z Systems-Plattform. VM03 Java Performance mit Linux on IBM z Systems Marc Beyerle, IBM R & D Haben Sie sich jemals gefragt, welche Komponenten in Java für die Performance eine wichtige Rolle spielen? Und wie man sie "von außen" beeinflussen kann? Dann ist diese Session genau richtig für Sie. VM04 CMS Pipelines for z/vm 6.4 Rob van der Heij, IBM US CMS will get new indoor plumbing. CMS Pipelines is an essential part of CMS. It is used by many customers to develop tools and applications on z/vm, and in most components of the z/vm product itself. With z/vm 6.4 we catch up with CMS Pipelines development, and more than double the function provided. The new level of CMS Pipelines is supported and serviced as the other components of z/vm. No download of additional code is needed. The presentation introduces CMS Pipelines and provides a tour along the highlights of new function. So kann Cognitves Business zu Erkenntnissen führen, von denen man gar nicht weiss, dass man sie haben könnte. Der Vortrag zeigt wie z/vse Teil einer solchen Lösung sein kann. VS02 z/vse Network Appliance Ingo Franzki, IBM R &D Dieser Vortrag gibt einen Überblick über die neue z/vse Network Appliance und erklärt wie sie benutzt werden kann. Der Fokus ist dabei auf Vereinfachungen, aber auch Erweiterungen, die die Verbindung zu anderen Plattformen, inklusive Linux auf z Systems, verbessern. Ein wichtiges Thema ist dabei mehr Sicherheit im Netzwerk. Entsprechend unserer PIE Strategie (Protect, Integrate, Extent) gibt es auch Erweiterungen für unsere z/vse Connector Komponente.
