2 Research Areas Basic Research Founding Methods Experiment Optical Techniques Fluid Mechanics especially Gasdynamics, non-classical Gasdynamics, transonic flow supersonic flow, multiphase flow with phase transition in equilibrium, non-equilibrium. This research was continuously supported by the German Science Foundation (DFG) in the framework of individual Research Grants, as projects of Research Training Groups (Graduiertenkollegs) and in Research Units (Forschergruppen). Physical modelling, development of CFD tools, transonic wind tunnel experiments. Laval nozzles, transonic flow around profiles, transonic test section with adaptive walls, transonic axial cascade. Flow visualization in supersonic wind tunnel, computer assisted optical measuring techniques, adaptive wind tunnel test section techniques. Flow Control Loss reduction, shock stabilization by passive ventilation in transonic compressor. Condensation

3 Condensation Non-equilibrium phase transition in transonic flow through nozzles, around profiles and in turbines with rotor-stator interaction in axial cascade. Cavitation Physical modelling of cavitating flows, bubble dynamics, Schnerr-Sauer model, new development of Riemann solver for simulation of compressible unsteady liquid flows with cavitation, CATUM - CAvitation Technical University Munich,emphasis on shock dynamics as driving mechanism for erosion in fluid machinery and injection nozzles of Diesel and Otto engines.
