1 Ihr Ticket zum Erfolg Das Fachsprachenzentrum der Universität Hamburg bietet Ihnen die Möglichkeit, eine wichtige Zusatzqualifikation in einer Fachsprache zu erlangen. Fremdsprachliche Kenntnisse sind heute im Berufsleben ebenso unverzichtbar, wie im akademischen Alltag. Die große Vielfalt der Kurse des Fachsprachenzentrums bietet Sprachunterricht für jeden Anlass Vorbereitung auf die Berufswelt, studienbegleitende Inhalte, Kenntnisse kultureller Besonderheiten und vieles mehr. Seminare, in Englisch für Rechtswissenschaftler, Französisch für Naturwissenschaftler oder Spanisch für Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, werden von muttersprachlichen DozentInnen gehalten. Auch bieten wir inzwischen ein großes Spektrum an Kursen im Bereich Deutsch als Fremdsprache an. Unsere DozentInnen besitzen Qualifikationen, sowohl im jeweiligen Fachgebiet, also auch im linguistischen Bereich. Studierende erhalten für jeden Kurs 3 Leistungspunkte, die als ABK-, Wahl-, oder Zusatzfach (je nach Fachbereich) anerkannt werden. Mit einem Zertifikat des Fachsprachenzentrums, können Sie in Studium und Beruf Ihre fremdsprachlichen Kenntnisse nachweisen Ihnen stehen alle Türen offen! 1

2 Einstufung & Anmeldung Das Fachsprachenzentrum bietet allen Studierenden und MitarbeiterInnen der Universität Hamburg Fortgeschrittenenkurse in den Sprachen Englisch, Französisch, Spanisch, Italienisch, Russisch, Türkisch und Chinesisch an. Bevor die Anmeldung zu den Kursen erfolgt, muss jeder Teilnehmer sich zunächst einstufen lassen. Die unten aufgelisteten Termine stellen die letzte Möglichkeit zur Einstufung für das Sommersemester 2014 dar. Die Einstufung findet statt... am 31. März 2014 zwischen und im Audimax I + II Wann brauchen Sie den Einstufungstest nicht mitzuschreiben? Wenn......Sie innerhalb der letzten vier Semester bereits einen Leistungsnachweis am Fachsprachenzentrum erworben haben....sie in einem Einstufungstest am Fachsprachenzentrum innerhalb der letzten vier Semester mindestens das Niveau B2 erreicht haben....sie über die Volkshochschule ein Niveau von B1.3 oder B2 vorweisen können, welches rechtzeitig vor der Anmeldung durch die Volkshochschule an das Geschäftszimmer des FSZ ( fsz@uni-hamburg.de) zu übermitteln ist einen Leistungsnachweis von der Volkshochschule auf dem Niveau B1.3 haben. In allen anderen Fällen ist die Teilnahme am Einstufungstest zwingend erforderlich! Was brauchen Sie für den Einstufungstest? Bei den Einstufungstests handelt es sich zum Teil um Multiple-Choice-Tests, für die etwa eine 60-minütige Bearbeitungszeit vorgesehen ist. Das Benutzen von Wörterbüchern ist nicht gestattet. Bitte halten Sie während des Tests Ihren Studierendenausweis sowie einen Lichtbildausweis bereit. Die Ergebnisse des Einstufungstests werden wenige Tage nach dem Test auf unserer Website veröffentlicht: uni-hamburg.de/fsz 2

3 Einstufung & Anmeldung Die Anmeldung findet ausschließlich über STiNE statt und läuft in 2 Phasen ab. Die erste Phase (Zufallsprinzip) ist insbesondere für eine Anmeldung bei einem der Intensivkurse gedacht und findet statt: Mo., 17. Februar 09:00 Uhr bis Do., 06. März 13:00 Uhr Die zweite Anmeldephase (Windhundprinzip) findet statt: Mo., 07. April 09:00 Uhr bis Di., 08. April 16:00 Uhr Sie finden unser Kursangebot unter Freier Wahlbereich Uniweit Fakultätsübergreifende Einrichtungen sowie unter Fachübergreifende Studien. Bitte beachten Sie: Bevor Sie sich anmelden, müssen Sie sicherstellen, dass Sie zur Anmeldung berechtigt sind. Dies sind Sie nur, wenn Ihr Einstufungstestergebnis im Fachsprachenzentrum registriert ist. Die Ergebnisse finden Sie nach Matrikelnummern geordnet auf unserer Website. Nur diejenigen Personen, deren Matrikelnummern auf der Liste stehen, werden zu den Kursen zugelassen. Wenn Sie sich anmelden, obwohl Ihr Ergebnis nicht auf unserer Liste steht, besitzt Ihre Anmeldung keinerlei Gültigkeit. Falls Sie nicht auf dieser Liste stehen und glauben, eine Berechtigung für unsere Veranstaltungen zu besitzen (Sie haben z.b. einen B1.3 Kurs bei der VHS abgeschlossen), dann sollten Sie so schnell wie möglich im Geschäftszimmer des FSZ ( fsz@uni-hamburg.de) einen entsprechenden Antrag stellen. Sie können sich für eine beliebige Anzahl von Kursen anmelden. Die Anmeldung für die Kurse für MitarbeiterInnen der Universität Hamburg erfolgt via an das Geschäftszimmer des FSZ ( fsz@uni-hamburg.de). Der erste Vorlesungstag ist der 10. April

4 Neues im Sommersemester 2014 Angebot erweitert: Deutsch als Fremdsprache Wir freuen uns, ab dem Sommersemester 2014 unser Angebot um Kurse im Bereich Deutsch als Fremdsprache stark erweitern zu können. Inzwischen bieten wir zahlreiche fachspezifische Seminare an, ebenso wie Kurse für DoktorandInnen. Neu: Interaktive Vorlesungen Um die Ressourcen am effektivsten nutzen zu können, finden diese Vorlesungen in Gruppen mit bis zu 80 Teilnehmern statt. Der interaktive Charakter bleibt gleichwohl erhalten. Die Studierenden erhalten sowohl die Möglichkeiten Fragen zu stellen, als auch Diskussionen zu führen und Anregungen zu erhalten. Neu: Blended Learning Blended Learning bietet den Studierende große Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten. Die Präsenzveranstaltungen finden im Zweiwochen-Rhythmus statt in der jeweils anderen Woche sind Sie gefordert, das kommende Seminar eigenständig vorzubereiten. Neu: Semi-Intensiv Die Semi-Intensiven Vorlesungen finden überwiegend in der ersten Hälfte des Semesters statt; hier allerdings in intensivierter Form in wöchentlichen 3-Stunden-Blocks. Sie erhalten somit die gleiche Anzahl credit-points, wie bei normalen Vorlesungen. Neu: Intensiv-Kurse Die Intensiv-Kurse werden kompakt, vor Beginn des Semesters, angeboten. Die Kursinhalte werden in einwöchigen Kursen mit ca. 5-6 Stunden pro Tag abgehalten. Durch diese neue Veranstaltungsform konnten wir zusätzliche GastdozentInnen, wie z.b. den international bekannten Schriftsteller Campbell Jefferys, gewinnen. Zusätzlich haben wir mit Frau Kramer und Frau Jokschas zwei neue Damen in unserem Geschäftszimmer, die immer für Sie da sind und Sie bei Ihrer Kursplanung beraten können. 6 Die Module - Brückenkurse Die Brückenkurse dienen dazu, den Kenntnisstand auf ein einheitliches Niveau zu bringen. Oft ist der Wissensstand der Studierenden in den Bereichen Sprechen und Hörverständnis oder Grammatik und Schreiben sehr unterschiedlich. Die Brückenkurse sind somit eine hilfreiche Vorbereitung, auf die Kurse der anderen Module und nützen überwiegend den Studierenden, die Wissens- oder Erinnerungslücken in der Sprache aufweisen. Damit die Lehrziele der weiteren Module eingehalten werden können, ist es unumgänglich Niveaudifferenzen anzugleichen. - Studium und Sprache In diesem Modul wird ein enger Bezug zu Studieninhalten hergestellt. Hier sollen studienbegleitende Fähigkeiten erworben werden, die Sie im Laufe Ihres Studiums benötigen. Immer mehr Studiengänge sind international ausgerichtet, Fachliteratur wird oft in der Originalversion behandelt. Im Bereich Fallstudien werden fachbezogene Studien aus der Praxis behandelt. Dabei werden sowohl fachliche als auch sprachliche Inhalte diskutiert. So entsteht ein Bezug zu Realität und aktuellen Geschehnissen. Aus trockenen Lerninhalten werden greifbare Inhalte, die einfach mit der Praxis in Verbindung gebracht werden können. Der Bereich Vokabeltraining beinhaltet keine schultypischen Vokabeltests und stures Pauken. Hier soll der Wortschatz vergrößert werden, sodass fremdsprachliche Vorträge und Literatur im Studium und abseits der Universität besser verstanden werden können. Darüber hinaus soll das aktive Vokabular intensiv erweitert werden, damit das jeweilige Fach auch in einer Fremdsprache ausgeübt werden kann. Der Baustein Bearbeitung von Fachliteratur zielt auf ein besseres Verständnis von anspruchsvoller, fachbezogener Literatur ab. Artikel aus Fachzeitschriften und Fachbüchern in fremden Sprachen sind nicht immer leicht zu verstehen, kommen aber immer häufiger in verschiedenen Studiengängen vor. Hier soll der Umgang damit geübt werden. - Akademische Sprache Der Fokus dieses Moduls liegt auf dem wissenschaftlichen, akademischen Bereich. Wer eine akademische Karriere anstrebt, ist unweigerlich auf fremdsprachliche Kenntnisse angewiesen. Internationale Korrespondenzen, sowie Hausarbeiten und Artikel in fremden Sprachen stehen nicht selten ganz oben auf der Tagesordnung. Hier sollen die fremdsprachlichen Fähigkeiten, mit Bezug auf akademisches Arbeiten, erweitert werden. Der Bereich Presse und Medien beinhaltet Kurse, in denen anspruchsvolle Artikel und Inhalte aus den Medien genauer Beiträge aus Print, Radio, Film und Internet - behandelt werden. Die Inhalte bieten die Grundlage für Plenumsdiskussionen. Selbst geschrieben wird in Kursen des Bereichs Wissenschaftliches Schreiben. Auch nach vielen Jahren des Studiums fällt es oft schwer, Seminar- und Hausarbeiten einwandfrei zu formulieren. Wenn dies dann auch noch in einer Fremdsprache geschehen soll, stehen viele Studierende vor einem Problem. Hier werden wichtige Kenntnisse zum wissenschaftlichen Formulieren auf Englisch, Französisch und Spanisch vermittelt. Schließlich geht es im Bereich Vorbereitung auf internationale Sprachtests um das Training für Tests wie TOEFL, IELTS, DELF und DELE. Wenngleich die Zertifikate des Fachsprachenzentrums vielerorts angenommen werden, verlangen einige Institutionen, Arbeitgeber und Universitäten international anerkannte Sprachtests. Hier bereiten unsere DozentInnen Sie optimal auf die Prüfungen vor. 6

7 - Beruf und Sprache Ob ein toller Job im Ausland oder ein Praktikum auf einem anderen Kontinent ein Aufenthalt in einem fremden Land ist aufregend und es gibt viel Neues zu entdecken. Auch, wer karrieretechnisch in Deutschland bleiben will, kommt um Fremdsprachen nicht herum. Soft Skills, wie die Fähigkeit, auf fremden Sprachen zu kommunizieren und das Wissen um fremde Kulturen werden in einer stark vernetzten Welt immer wichtiger. Im Bereich Präsentieren und Moderieren werden Studierende auf Präsentationen im Berufsleben vorbereitet. Schon mal ein Meeting auf Englisch, Französisch oder Spanisch moderiert? Hier werden zahlreiche praxisnahe Situationen simuliert. In einem umfangreichen Training werden sowohl wichtige Vokabeln als auch substanzielle Techniken zum Präsentieren in der Berufswelt behandelt. In diesen Kursen wird Ihnen auch gezeigt, wie Sie mit kleineren Konflikten im Berufsalltag und Gesprächen unter Kollegen umgehen. Der erste Eindruck zählt! Wie Sie auch im Ausland im gesamten Bewerbungsprozess eine gute Figur machen, zeigen Ihnen unsere qualifizierten DozentInnen in den Kursen des Bereichs Lebenslauf, Anschreiben, Bewerbungsgespräch. Eine einzigartige Möglichkeit, sich optimal auf eine internationale Bewerbung vorzubereiten. Heutzutage sind auch im Inland interkulturelle und linguistische Fähigkeiten unverzichtbar. Auf Englisch geführte Bewerbungsgespräche sind keine Seltenheit mehr. Wichtige Inhalte werden auch im Bereich Stil in Sprache und Schrift vermittelt. Im Berufsleben müssen oft s, Briefe oder Memos verfasst werden es ist nicht immer einfach, sich in einer fremden Sprache professionell auszudrücken. Besonders in heiklen Situationen und bei Konflikten finden sich in einer fremden Sprache nicht immer die richtigen Worte. Dies soll hier eingehend geübt werden. - Ausland und Sprache Ein Jahr als Au-pair, ein Semester im Ausland oder eine Reise in ein fernes Land die Kommunikation steht immer an erster Stelle. Wichtige sprachliche Kenntnisse und Eigenheiten anderer Länder werden in diesem Modul tief gehend behandelt. Auch allgemeinbildende Kompetenzen im Bereich der Kultur können hier erlangt werden. Der Bereich Interkulturelle Kompetenz bereitet Studierende auf Begegnungen mit Menschen anderer Kulturen vor. Hier dreht sich alles um das Prinzip andere Länder, andere Sitten. In diesen Kursen können Sie Ihr Wissen um fremde Kulturen und Länder erweitern und gleichzeitig wichtige Soft Skills aufbauen. Einen anderen Fokus legt der Baustein Überleben im Alltag. Alltägliche Dinge wie der Gang zum Supermarkt oder die Eröffnung eines Bankkontos können im Ausland oft zur Zerreißprobe werden. Wie Sie diese Dinge stressfrei überleben, lernen Sie hier. Der Bereich Land und Leute vertieft noch einmal die Eigenheiten einzelner Länder und Kulturen. Wie lebt es sich in Südafrika? Tummelt sich in Südfrankreich wirklich nur der Jetset? All das und mehr erfahren Sie in diesen Kursen. 7

S. 6) This course is aimed at students of intermediate level who need to improve their skills in spoken English. The focus of the course will be on building up confidence in spoken and listening abilities, through group activities, mini-presentations and a range of speaking and listening tasks. Course participants will be exposed to different accents and the way that English is spoken in many regions around the world. By the end of the semester you should be able to communicate with ease in a variety of different situations. 14

Perhaps, you would like to improve your speaking and writing skills because you re not so confident that you re using the right words or in the correct context? If so, then this class is for you. We ll review basic grammar construction in everyday American context and build upon this knowledge with new vocabulary while using appropriate sentence structure. The focus will be placed on tenses, prepositions, idioms, conditionals, adjectives and adverbs, irregular verbs, and much more. 15

16 Englisch Modul Studium und Sprache F A L L S T U D I E N Fallstudien Entrepreneurship and Innovation Setting Up your Own Company Dienstag 10:15 11:45 Uhr (Selbstlernzentrum) Dr. Peter James Witchalls Besonders geeignet für Studierende der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften In this seminar you will set up your own fictitious company, performing all the steps that would be necessary to launch a new product onto the market, from designing and presenting your product, securing a bank loan, to appealing to your target market through marketing measures. Along the way, we will be fine-tuning many skills, including presenting, teamwork and negotiating. The seminar will demand very active participation, and the most promising company launch will receive a prize at the end of the course. Materials will be provided via the commsy workspace. Seminar members will be expected to fulfill course requirements, which are active and regular participation, written assignments and an end-of-semester examination. 16

We shall focus on molecular mechanisms and stand back to appreciate the complexity of organ and tissue interactions. Many clinical examples, including diabetes, neuropathies, thyroid disease and cancer, will be discussed and most especially from the possibility that the text-book explanations are totally wrong! The impact of modern diagnostics and therapies with lasers, biochips and gene machines has also introduced ethical and social problems of interventionist medicine, such as genetic fingerprinting, cosmetic surgery and euthanasia, which will provide many opportunities for intensive discussion. The course will use this method of looking at business case studies in order to stimulate your thoughts on marketing issues (e.g. how can a coffee manufacturer make their brand more attractive?) while improving your ability to express yourself using specific marketing vocabulary both orally and in written form. Each week we will begin by examining a business topic, mostly from the areas of HR and Marketing, through a process of brainstorming and vocabulary-building before conducting a simulated meeting in which participants take on the role of consultants to the ailing company. Subsequently course participants will present their results either in oral or written form. Skills to be learned include holding a successful meeting and writing a business letter in English. The course will culminate in a complex case study from the Harvard Business Review. Materials will be provided via the unicommsy workspace. Seminar members will be expected to fulfill course requirements, which are active and regular participation, the writing of assignments and a written examination. 18

Students will learn how to recognise the early stages of conflict and develop strategies and practical tools that will enable each student to manage difficult conversations and resolve conflict successfully. Students will have the chance to improve their negotiation skills and learn more about the sophisticated language needed for resolving conflicts in everyday working environments Fallstudien Yesterday's Dream of Today Montag Uhr Jonathan Barend Jacobsohn Besonders geeignet für Studierende der Mathematik, Informatik und Naturwissenschaften Where are our jetpacks, flying cars, robots and spaceships? Has Hollywood lied to us? We will look at the depiction of future technology in old TV shows and movies and compare those to today s technology. We will try to answer every science fiction film geek's most troubling question: Why have we surpassed Hollywood's wildest dreams in some areas of technology and fallen so short in others?if you are interested in science and you like to discuss your ideas about the progress of technology, you should definitely join this class. This class will allow you to practice your spoken English and gain confidence. Each student is expected to participate in class and give a short (10 min) presentation. 19

This will be done by examining one area of business each week (e.g. Marketing, Human Resources or Finance). There will be key phrases to be learned and used in each respective context. Role-plays and simulations will be used to reinforce the language learned and the use of case studies will serve to reincorce vocabulary and grammar. S. 4) This course will be taught through blended learning, which means that course participants will have contact sessions with the trainer every 2 weeks and will be expected to complete and prepare the online exercises at home. All assignments will then be discussed and worked on in class with the trainer in the twice- monthly sessions. The aim of the course is a review of the most important grammar points, through online exercises and active participation in class. Vocabulary will be enhanced through reading academic and business articles at home, developing vocab lists followed by class exercises, which will encourage students to use the vocabulary learned. 20

The aim of this course is to build up your vocabulary through gap fill tasks, mini-presentations, listening and speaking exercises. By the end of the course you should be able to explain almost any situation without wasting time looking for the correct vocabulary Vokabeltraining Essential Vocabulary and Grammar for Business Mittwoch 12:15 13:45 Uhr a Harry Wilkinson The aim of this course is to expose students to the vocabulary and grammar which is most essential when communicating in business situations. This involves targeting the most important grammar topics relating to business communication such as Tenses, Prepositions and Conditionals as well as the most important vocabulary relating to different areas of business. Phrases and expressions for various fields of doing business plus those required for successful meetings, ing and presentations. While the course will be largely content based, student interaction and role-playing is expected. 21

A survey of enlightening topics and perspectives within these two judiciary systems will be conducted.
