8 Alec Roth Alec Roth (b. 198) was born in England of German/Irish descent. He studied music at the University of Durham and gamelan at the Academy of Indonesian Performing Arts (ASKI) in Surakarta, Central Java. His time in Java and his involvement with creative education projects have greatly influenced his aroach to composition, which encompasses a wide range of genres including musictheatre, vocal, choral, instrumental, orchestral, gamelan, and music for children. Roth s many collaborations with the Indian wrir Vikram Seth include an opera, oratorio, choral sui, and numerous songs and songcycles. Seth s book The Rivered Earth (011) describes their creative partnership, including an account of the pleasures and pains of working with a composer. Alec Roth (*198) wurde in England geboren und ist deutschirischer Abstammung. Er studier Musik an der Universität Durham/GB und Gamelan an der Indonesischen Akademie für darsllende Kunst (ASKI) in Surakarta/ Java. Sein dortiger Aufenthalt sowie seine Mitarbeit an künstlerischen Bildungsprojekn hatn nachhaltigen Einfluss auf sein kompositorisches Schaen, das eine brei Palet unrschiedlicher Gattungen umfasst, darunr Musikthear, Solo und Chorgesang, Instrumental und Orchesrmusik, Gamelan und Musik für Kinder. Eine häufige Zusammenarbeit verndet ihn mit dem indischen Schriftsller Vikram Seth; gemeinsam entstanden eine Oper, ein Oratorium, eine Sui für Chor sowie zahlreiche Lieder und Liedzyklen. Seth beschreibt diese künstlerische Partnerschaft in seinem Buch The Rivered Earth (011), das u.a. von Freud und Leid bei der Arbeit mit einem Komponisn handelt. ROTH la Edition Pers 760
