5 Topic: Rheological properties of PP/COC blends Background: PP is used as capacitor material and gains importance in the framework of energy production by wind. In order to minimize energy loss electrical breakdown and dielectric loss properties have to be optimized. As possible solution offer blends with cyclic polyolefins (COC), a material which possesses ultra low dielectric loss. 6 Topic: Determination of dn/dc for various polymer solvent systems Background: The refractive index increment dn/dc plays an important role in the determination of molar mass by multi-angle laser light scattering (MALLS). It is dependent on solvent as well as on temperature. LSP has recently purchased an instrument to determine dn/dc precisely. Fields of work: - Literature survey on measurement of dn/dc - Development of experimental technique for a reproducible determination of dn/dc for standard polymer/solvent - systems. - Measurement of dn/dc for polyelectrolyte materials (e.g. PUR in DMF) Supervisor: Dr. Joachim Kaschta Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. 7 Topic: Influence of compounding conditions on molecular architecture of reactively processed PLA Background: PLA is a biopolymer of increasing interest for e.g. medical and packaging applications. For some applications it has to be modified by reactive extrusion to optimize processing behavior.
