Vor allem jüngere Menschen zieht es auf der Suche nach guten Ausbildungs- und Arbeitsplätzen in die Städte. Das gilt auch für Hamburg. In den vergangenen zwei Jahren ist die Hansestadt um rund Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner gewachsen. Mittelfristig ist weiter mit einer deutlich ansteigenden Einwohnerzahl zu rechnen, auch durch die große Zahl von Flüchtlingen, die voraussichtlich dauerhaft bei uns bleiben werden. Diese Entwicklung bringt große Herausforderungen für die Stadtentwicklung mit sich. Im gleichen Maße, wie die Zahl der Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner wächst, muss das Angebot an Wohnraum, muss die soziale und verkehrliche Infrastruktur und auch das Angebot an Arbeitsplätzen wachsen. Hamburg hat sich darauf eingestellt und fördert beispielsweise konsequent den Neubau von Wohnungen. Rund Wohnungen wurden im vergangenen Jahr fertiggestellt. Etwa ein Drittel davon wurden öffentlich gefördert, sind daher besonders günstig. Viele große Stadtentwicklungsprojekte helfen, diese Herausforderungen zu meistern: Die Entwicklung des Hamburger Ostens, der Mitte Altona, der HafenCity und nicht zuletzt die Planungen für die Bewerbung um die Olympischen und Paralympischen Spiele 2024 sind nur einige von ihnen. Especially younger people are attracted to cities in the search of good training places and jobs. This fact also applies to Hamburg. Over the past two years, the Hanseatic city enjoyed a growth in population by approx. 27,000 inhabitants. Also in the medium term, Hamburg will continue to expect a substantial rise in population, a development also influenced by the large number of refugees expected to stay with us permanently. This development brings along major challenges for urban development. With numbers of inhabitants constantly rising, also housing, social and transport infrastructure, and job offers will have to grow. Hamburg responded to these needs and has been actively promoting the construction of new residential units, with 7,000 new homes completed last year. Onethird of these residences were publicly funded, thus offering favourable rates. Numerous large urban development projects help, to meet these challenges: the development of Hamburg s east, Mitte Altona, HafenCity, and, last but not least, Hamburg s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 are just some of them. November der Bewerbung der Hansestadt und Norddeutschlands für die Olympischen Sommerspiele 2024 zustimmen. Und bis zur Entscheidung des Olympischen Komitees im Sommer 2017 ist es noch ein weiter Weg. Doch schon jetzt hat Olympia neue Perspektiven für die Stadtentwicklung Hamburgs aufgezeigt und eine Aufbruchstimmung erzeugt. Dass die Olympischen Spiele nicht bloß Sportveranstaltungen, sondern auch Stadtmarketing sind und Stadtentwicklungsprojekte beschleunigen, ist sicherlich keine neue Erkenntnis. Die Wettkämpfe selbst stellen nur ein kurzes, intensiv medial beachtetes Ereignis dar. Stadien, olympische Dörfer, Pressezentren und Infrastrukturausbauten hingegen bleiben. Wie dieses bauliche Erbe konkret aussieht, ist stark von den ausrichtenden Städten abhängig. Sie setzen nicht nur die baulichen Forderungen des Olympischen Komitees um, sondern entscheiden sowohl über die Lage der Veranstaltungsstätten als auch über deren Nachnutzungskonzepte. Gerade hierin kann Potenzial für eine langfristige Stadtentwicklung liegen. Und Hamburg will dies nutzen. Hamburg ist eine wachsende Stadt. Ihre Einwohnerzahl ist von 1,65 Mio. im Jahr 1990 auf fast 1,8 Mio. in 2013 gestiegen. Bis 2030 werden 1,85 Mio. Einwohner erwartet. Hamburg hat also auf längere Zeit vielfältige Bedarfe, was Wohnen, Arbeiten, Sport, Kultur und Freizeit betrifft. Hamburg wird deshalb das olympische und paralympische Programm streng

Es entstehen neue gemischte innerstädtische Wohnorte, zusätzliche Arbeitsstätten, attraktive öffentliche Grün- und Freizeitflächen sowie vielfältige Einrichtungen für Erholung, Sport und Kultur. Hamburg kann dabei der olympischen Familie Spiele im Herzen einer Millionenstadt bieten direkt am Wasser. Auch im internationalen Vergleich ist es einzigartig, den Spielen unmittelbar im Stadtzentrum eine über 100 Hektar große Fläche zur Verfügung stellen zu können. Damit werden Spiele möglich, in der Sportler und Zuschauer von der Olympic City zu Fuß zum Rathaus, zum Hauptbahnhof, in die Shopping City und zur Kultur- und Unterhaltungsmeile Reeperbahn gelangen können. Wie der Olympiapark in München, der 1972 ein Gebiet erschlossen hat, das zuvor im gefühlten Abseits lag, würde auch der Olympiapark in Hamburg einen Bereich erschließen, der bis vor Kurzem sogar per (Freihafen-) Zaun von der Stadt abgegrenzt war. The host cities not only implement the requirements defined by the Olympic Committee, but also decide both on the location of the sites as well as on their after-use concepts. These facts offer great potential for a long-term urban development. And Hamburg wants to use it. Hamburg is a growing city. From 1990 to 2013, its population has grown from 1.65 to roughly 1.8 million people. By 2030, 1.85 million inhabitants are expected to live in Hamburg. So, Hamburg will have diverse needs in terms of housing, employment, sport, culture and leisure for a longer period of time. Hamburg will therefore host the Olympic and Paralympic Games with the vision of securing a future-oriented after-use for all Olympic facilities. Take, for instance, the apartments that will be erected for the Olympic Village and the Media Village. After the games, they will help to meet the existing demand for housing in Hamburg. The games will allow Hamburg to strengthen its character as a maritime city dominated by the water and to continue its development as a strong and modern metropolis with a high quality of life. They will create new, mixed urban residences, additional workplaces, attractive public parks and recreational areas along with a variety of facilities for recreation, sports and culture. To the Olympic family, Hamburg can offer Games in the heart of a big city and right on the water. Even by international standards, Hamburg boasts a location that is unique: a 100 hectares large area right in the city centre. This will allow games of short distances, with athletes and spectators walking from the Olympic City to city hall, to Hamburg s main train station, to its shopping streets and malls, and to the Reeperbahn entertainment and culture precinct. Like the Olympic Park in Munich that reattached an off-location back to the city in 1972, the Olympic City will bring back to Hamburg an area, which previously has been shut off from the city by the Freeport fence. Über dem Backsteinkorpus eines ehemaligen Kakaospeichers erhebt sich ein schillernder Glasaufbau auf bis zu 110 Metern. Das Herzstück des von dem Schweizer Architekturbüro Herzog & de Meuron entworfenen Gebäudes ist ein Konzertsaal von Weltklasse auf einer Höhe von 50 Metern mit Plätzen, der Hamburgs vibrierender Klassikszene und Stars aus aller Welt eine spektakuläre Bühne sein wird. Der Große Saal folgt dem Weinberg-Prinzip: Die Bühne liegt in der Mitte des Saals, wie Terrassen eines Weinbergs steigen die Zuschauerränge ringsherum auf. Neben dem großen Konzertsaal wird es einen kleinen Saal mit ca. 550 Plätzen geben, der vor allem für Kammermusikkonzerte geeignet ist, aber auch für Bälle oder Banketts genutzt werden kann. Das Kaistudio im Sockelbau (150 Plätze) wird ein Raum für experimentelle Musik, Vorträge und Workshops sowie Zentrum eines über zwei Etagen reichenden musikpädagogischen Bereichs. Rund Besucher der Baustelle im letzten Jahr zeigten, dass das Interesse an der Elbphilharmonie groß ist. Mit der Öffnung der Plaza bereits im November 2016 werden wir möglichst vielen Hamburgerinnen und Hamburgern die Möglichkeit geben, schon vor der Eröffnung des Konzerthauses ihr neues Wahrzeichen kennenzulernen, so der Hamburger Erste Bürgermeister Olaf Scholz. Jetzt können wir endlich ganz konkret die Eröffnung der Elbphilharmonie im Januar 2017 planen, ergänzt die Hamburger Kultursenatorin Prof. Barbara Kisseler. Ausmaß des Saales erstmals sichtbar Das Herzstück des von den Schweizer Architekten Herzog & de Meuron entworfenen Gebäudes bildet der Große Saal mit rund Plätzen, dessen beeindruckendes Ausmaß von Kubikmetern Mitte des Jahres das erste Mal sichtbar wurde. Er ist als Raum konzipiert, dessen Mitte vom Orchester und dem Dirigenten besetzt ist. Dieses Zentrum wird von den terrassenförmig steil ansteigenden Publikumsrängen umgeben. Die aus rund Einzelplatten bestehende weiße Haut und der 50 Tonnen schwere Reflektor werden für eine optimale Akustik sorgen. Die nächsten Schritte: Kräne verschwinden Auch von außen wird die beeindruckende Architektur der Elbphilharmonie immer sichtbarer. Nach der Demontage des Außengerüstes erfolgte auch der Rückbau der noch vorhandenen Kräne. Die Abnahme des Gebäudes ist für den 31. Oktober 2016 garantiert. Darüber hinaus beheimatet die Elbphilharmonie ein Hotel, ein Restaurant, 45 Wohnungen sowie die Plaza, einen frei zugänglichen Platz mit einer 360 -Panorama-Sicht über die Stadt. Die gläserne Fassade der Elbphilharmonie ist einzigartig durch die Vielfalt der gebogenen und bedruckten Elemente. Sie sorgen dafür, dass die Sonneneinstrahlung einerseits minimiert, andererseits reflektiert wird. In den glitzernden Fassadenelementen spiegelt sich die Umgebung des neuen Konzerthauses wider. By opening the public plaza in November 2016, we will allow the Hamburg locals to discover their new landmark even before its official opening, says Hamburg s First Mayor Olaf Scholz. Now, we are able to start planning the official opening of Elbe Philharmonic Hall in January 2017, adds Prof. Barbara Kisseler, Hamburg Minister of Culture. Size of Great Hall Visible for the First Time Designed by the Swiss architects, the concert hall s centrepiece is the Great Hall with 2,100 seats. Boasting an impressive volume of 23,000 cubic metres, the hall has been designed with the orchestra and the conductor at its centre, surrounded by steep terraced seating rows. Consisting of around 10,000 individual plates, the Great Hall s white skin, and the 50-ton reflector will ensure perfect acoustics. The Next Steps: The Cranes Will Disappear Also from the outside, the impressive architecture of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall will become more visible. Following the dismantling of the exterior scaffolding, also the remaining cranes are gradually disappearing. Final inspection of the building and acceptance of work has been scheduled for 31 October In addition to its concert halls and music-related facilities, the Elbe Philharmonic Hall is home to a hotel, a restaurant, 45 apartments and a freeaccess public plaza, offering 360 panoramic view over the city. The glass facade of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall is unique due to the diversity of the 1,100 printed and curved elements. They ensure that the sunlight will not only be minimized, but also reflected, with the surrounding of the new concert hall being mirrored in the glittering elements of its facade. Der aufsehenerregende östliche Eingang der HafenCity wird mit seiner Nähe zum Wasser und zur grünen Insel Entenwerder als Geschäfts- und Wohnquartier hochattraktiv sein. Tragende inhaltliche Rollen spielen mit dem Stadtentwicklungsraum Billebogen sowie Hamburgs Masterplan für die Bewerbung um Olympische und Paralympische Spiele 2024 auch die neuen Tätigkeitsfelder der HafenCity Hamburg GmbH. Der Billebogen ist ein ca. 72 ha umfassendes Areal nord-östlich der HafenCity, das bebaute und unbebaute Flächen umfasst. Die Entwicklung stärkt nicht nur die stadträumlichen Qualitäten des stark durch Verkehrstrassen geprägten Eingangstors zur inneren Stadt, es werden auch neue Arbeitsplätze geschaffen, von denen viele in vertikal gestaffelten Produktionsflächen entstehen sollen. Much of the area core has been determined architectonically and the next bid process for over 600 residential units was also called during the summer. Another important topic at Expo Real is the development of southern Überseequartier. Detailed architectural and planning progress here is as much in the spotlight as the results of the urban planning competition for Elbbrücken neighborhood, which will be definite in time for the fair. Its proximity to the water and to the green island of Entenwerder should make this spectacular eastern gateway to HafenCity a highly attractive business and residential district. An urban space will take shape, soaking up atmosphere from the connection to water, the central design element, and imparted subtly through the various levels of height. The outcome of the competition from September 2015 and subsequent functional planning will form the basis for the concrete development of plots in the last HafenCity neighborhood to be developed. HafenCity Hamburg GmbH s two new spheres of activity, the Billebogen urban development area and Hamburg s Masterplan for its bid to stage the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, also play major thematic roles.
