Was passierte? Was passierte beim Überfliegen des Äquators?
Defect Removal Activity Expected distribution of both valid and invalid defects Cost of defect relative to Test Level Schlechte Qualität ist zu 50% Ursache für die vorzeitige Beendigung von Projekten.

Golden Rules for Testing (1/4) 1. Independent Test Team Test is performed by an organizationally independent test team for projects exceeding 5,000 hours, with the exception of Unit Test. Test Resources are trained in and conform to Full Lifecycle Testing. 2. Test Plan and Test Strategy Test Plan and Test Strategy have to be developed in the early design phase. A uniform testing approach has to be established which is understood by all. The testing approach has to be aligned with development method (e. g. agile development). Test Plan has to be derived from the project's quality requirements. Independent effort estimation for test has to be conformed. For every test level entry and exit criteria have to planned. Adequate regression tests have to be planned. 22
Golden Rules for Testing (2/4) 3. Systems Engineering Discipline Appropriate policies and guidelines are in place, compliance is controlled by periodic audits. Actively reviewing high level, low level design, code, test strategies / plans, test architecture and test design. Both artificial and productive-like test data should be used during different test levels. Test Cases have to be fully specified (incl. expected result) before test execution is started. 4. Risk Management Risk process is fully implemented and test risk assessments (effort, schedule, cost, and coverage) are performed (e. g. No Time boxing without evaluation of test risks). Test Metrics and Reporting Entry / exit criteria have to be measured and reported for every test level. Emphasis is on the quality of data and focus on both the effectiveness and efficiency of the process. 23
Golden Rules for Testing (3/4) 5. Test Metrics and Reporting Entry / exit criteria have to be measured and reported for every test level. Emphasis is on the quality of data and focus on both the effectiveness and efficiency of the process. 6. Test Tools & Technology Appropriate test tools and technology should be used to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Test Automation should be implemented after cost-benefit analysis. 7. Test Environment Management Test environments are built in time and maintained by a dedicated staff of technicians. Test Configuration Management should be in place. Test activities have to be executed without interfering each other (e. g. usage of different ID groups, different test system clients, etc.). 24
Golden Rules for Testing (4/4) 8. Requirements Management "Testability" of requirements must be assured. Traceability between requirements and test cases has to be assured for better verification of test coverage. The usage of an automated tool to support traceability is desirable. 9. Defect Management Defects are tracked (automatically) and root cause analysis is performed for "hot spots" (e.g. application of Defect Reduction Methodology (DRM)). 10. Non-functional Requirements Non-functional requirements must be considered in testing. Use specialist advice for special testing areas (performance, usability, security etc. ). Permanent Performance Testing of the solution is mandatory. 25
Golden Rules for Quality Assurance (1/2) 1. Ensure versioning of work products All artifacts created during a project s life need to be put under version control Use configuration management tools 2. Always show your actual baseline Ensure easy access to the current baseline for all project members Establish processes which make changes to the baseline visible 3. Track requirements over all phases Ensure that you can identify the requirement which led to a work product at any time Check at each phase that the requirements have been met 4. Assure the quality of self-contained units Apply quality checks on every unit/component Check subcontracted work in an acceptance test, call for test results from the contractor 5. Document your processes in writing Create a Process Asset Library Create process starter set or newcomers 26
Golden Rules for Quality Assurance (2/2) 6. Treat quality assurance like any other process Document all review and reporting processes Processes which are understood by the whole team will get support more easily 7. Assure traceability Document every decision (including reasons for and against it) Prepare minutes for each meeting, document agreements 8. Fight any deviation emphatically Deviations are allowed only after thoroughly having checked the consequences Document project-specific processes in a tailoring document 9. Don t establish excessive formalism Follow the rules by their content, not by formalism Listen to your fellow members and remove obstacles by implementing improvements 10. Always practice open and fair communication Communicate all problems and nuisances early and openly QA statements need to be verifiably, so document your sources and assumptions 27

Test Assessment and Planning - Test strategy Assess - Planning Design Assess current test practices Test strategy Test plans Management support processes Execution - Reporting Test strategy is a high-level outline of the enterprise-wide approach and common terminology that identifies how critical attributes of the system will be verified. When does it start? Test Strategy document is produced at the beginning of the test project. When does it end? Test Strategy requires stakeholder approval prior to the development of the Test Plans. What value does it provide? Test Strategy will document the agreed consensus on scope of testing, business and operational priorities, resource requirements and roles and responsibilities. Provides a high level overview of the major milestones and checkpoints in the testing life cycle. 29
Test Assessment and Planning - Test plans Assess - Planning Design Assess current test practices Test strategy Test plans Management support processes Execution - Reporting The Master Test Plan is a document of understanding on testing between the various stakeholders of the project. It documents the "what" (scope and objectives), the "why" (purpose), the "when" (key milestones), and the "who" (organizational roles and responsibilities) for all levels of dynamic testing. When does it start? The Master Test Plan is developed when the Test Strategy has been approved. The Detailed Test Plans for each level of test start as soon as the inputs for that test level area are available. When does it end? The Master Test plan is used and refined throughout the Life Cycle testing project. Each detailed Test Plan is completed before the execution for that test level commences. What value does it provide? The Master Test plan organizes the complexities across the testing project and so minimizes the risk of added scope and unnecessary costs. The detailed Test Plans provide clarity to the requirements and schedule for each level of testing. 30
Test Design - Test case development Assess - Planning Design Test case development Prepare test data Execution - Reporting Test asset configuration management Test execution plans Test environment preparation Management support processes Test cases are sets of conditions or variables under which a tester will determine if a requirement or use case for an application is partially or fully satisfied. When does it start? Test case development begins when requirements have been documented and reviewed and the associated test scenarios have been approved. When does it end? Test cases are used throughout the test execution stages and are retained for reuse as regression test cases for subsequent projects. What value does it provide? Test cases are designed using standard technique such as Equivalence Partitioning and Cause-Effect Graphing to find defects in the application.. 31
Test Design - Prepare Test Data Assess - Planning Design Test case development Prepare test data Execution - Reporting Test asset configuration management Test execution plans Test environment preparation Management support processes Test data preparation is the building of a library of documented test elements that are managed for test iterations. The combination of test data and a test case creates a reusable, unique test scenario, traceable to application requirements. Preparation of test data also involves the generation of test data with the relationships and characteristics of production data; subsetting of existing data - extracting existing data into smaller groups/sets; masking sensitive data - protecting confidential data to support compliance with data privacy legislation. When does it start? Test data preparation begins in parallel with test case development when test scenarios have been approved. When does it end? Test data will be actively used and refined during both test preparation and throughout the test execution stages. All test data is retained for reuse with regression testing and automation for subsequent projects. What value does it provide? Test data is critical to support the definition of good, reusable test cases that support the quality analysis of an application. Change or Enhancement Risks: Test focus areas Identified in Master test plan Input data Used in Test case Executed with Test script Reads Writes (and consumes) Test cases, scripts and their data are managed in Rational Test Manager Expected results (onscreen and or in the DB) Starting data Managed with Test data management 32
Test Execution and Reporting Assess - Planning Unit testing Functional testing Integration testing System testing Design Execution - Reporting Systems integration Regression testing User acceptance Operability testing Management support processes Test execution exercises the defined system and compare the outcome to the expected result When does it start? Test Execution starts after successful completion of the test readiness review and installation in the test environment. When does it end? Test Execution phase ends when the tests identified during the planning and preparation are executed, any errors found are fixed, and tests have been signed off as successfully completed. What value does it provide? Eliminates defects in the application to comply with business and operational goals. 33
