2 About StudyWorld 2012 StudyWorld 2012, the 7th Interna onal Fair for Higher and Con nuing Educa on, took place from May 11-12, The two-day event welcomed 7,876 visitors to Berlin s Russisches Haus der Wissenscha und Kultur, where they took advantage of the opportunity to gather informa on about Bachelor s and Master s courses around the world as well as interna onal internship programmes. This year, 170 universi es and providers of con nuing educa on from 27 countries presented their programmes and services. For exhibitors and trade visitors, StudyWorld proved to be a lively se ng for interna onal networking. The exhibi on was organised by ICWE GmbH in coopera on with the German Federal Ministry for Educa on and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It took place under the patronage of Prof Dr Anne e Schavan, Federal Minister of Educa on and Research,, as well as Prof Dr Margret Wintermantel, President of the German Academic Exchange Service. Visitor Profile StudyWorld 2012 welcomed a total of 7,876 visitors. A endees comprised 44.8 % secondary school students, most of them in their final year % of a endees were university students. Addi onally, a growing number of educa onal experts (6.9 %) and other professionals interested in con nuing educa on (9.3 %) a ended the exhibi on in The age sta s cs show that StudyWorld mostly a racts young people. Almost half of the visitors (45.8 %) were aged between years, while 37.3 % were between 20 and 25. Around 60 % of a endees came from Berlin while over a third came from all over. Even more visitors wanted to find out more about programmes abroad (48.0 % Bachelor s and 38.9 %), as well as internships abroad (36.3 %). There was also a strong interest in advice on funding and admissions. Visitors to StudyWorld Countries / Regions of Interest Studying 1. USA 2. United Kingdom 2. USA 6. United Kingdom The most popular loca ons for studying were the USA, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. The list of most popular des na ons for internships was topped by, followed by the United States, Australia and New Zealand. When asked about their reasons for a ending the event, most visitors said they were looking for specific informa on on degrees and higher educa on programmes (55.6 %) and came well-prepared to the exhibi on. To get a general overview was another important aim for many visitors (52.2 %). Visitors were frequently described by the exhibitors as highly mo vated and eager to find out more about their career and studying opportuni es worldwide. 4 Exhibitors In 2012, 170 exhibitors from 27 countries took advantage of s only exhibi on to focus on higher and con nuing educa on worldwide to present their products and services. Among them were higher educa on ins tu ons, scholarship providers, higher educa on consul ng services, ins tu ons offering con nuing educa on as well as internship placement and exchange organisa ons. Alongside 62 ins tu ons from, exhibitors from the following countries were represented at the exhibi on: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Republic of Korea,, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom and the USA. 5 Exhibi on Impressions Seminar Programme The seminar programme comprised 50 presenta ons and provided extensive informa on on internships, educa on and careers. The presenta ons on internships abroad, as well as speeches on topics rela ng to study abroad, e.g. financing and applica on, were par cularly popular among visitors. Some presenta ons described study op ons and internships, e.g. in Australia, Great Britain, Finland, France, Turkey and the USA. Special Focus on Studying in This year s guest of honour was. Over 30 educa onal ins tu ons presented their course and research programmes at the Educa on, Science and Innova ons in stand. Innova ve projects and work in focus areas of the n Federa on s scien fic, technological and technical development were exhibited, while universi es such as those from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tomsk presented their services. On Friday, May 11, the n Ambassador in, His Excellency Vladimir M. Grinin, visited StudyWorld and the n exhibi on booths. Post-Exhibi on Report 5

6 Press Coverage StudyWorld 2012 was once again covered extensively by local and na onal newspapers, magazines and radio sta ons as well as online media. One of s leading daily newspapers, Der Tagesspiegel, presented a special feature about StudyWorld and this year s guest of honour prior to the event. Once again, the na onal radio sta on Deutschlandfunk broadcasted live from StudyWorld on both days of the exhibi on, interviewing experts and students for their weekly radio shows Campus und Karriere and Pisa plus. Symposium The 6th Symposium on the Interna onal Mobility of German Students, go out! studieren weltweit, took place in the run-up to StudyWorld on May 10-11, The event was organised by the Federal Ministry of Educa on and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in co-opera on with ICWE GmbH. The Symposium themes were directly linked to the topics covered by the exhibi on and the programme featured presenta ons of Study Abroad Concepts for University Students and Graduates. Studying in was the focus of the second day of the Symposium. Par cipants included university staff working in the fields of administra on, interna onal exchange and public rela ons, representa ves from different facul es and ins tutes, as well as exhibitors from StudyWorld Mark your Calendar: StudyWorld 2013 StudyWorld 2013, the 8th Interna onal Fair for Higher and Con nuing Educa on, is scheduled to take place from May 3-4, 2013, at Berlin s Russisches Haus der Wissenscha und Kultur.
