23 Some closing remarks Space activities in AT have a clear governance and are an integral part of the innovation system Space agency functions are incorporated in an R&D&I setting (FFG) which has advantages Cooperation in the ESA environment are of key importance for developing the sector a national R&D programme for space activities can support the implementation of space policy in an effective way Challenge: Pressure on budgets - alternative funding and financing opportunities needed Challenge: Gap between R&D and real user uptake / commercial exploitation - alternative funding instruments and funding environments needed 22
