2 Framework conditions of the equal opportunities work at German universities 1) Regulatory framework Landesgleichstellungsgesetz NRW (State Law for Equal Rights for Women and Men for North Rhine Westphalia) from 1999 Hochschulfreiheitsgesetz NRW (State Law for the Reorganisation of Higher Education in North Rhine Westphalia) outlines the rules for the status and rights of the Equal Opportunities Commissioner Berufungsordnung (Appointment Regulations) of the University of Münster 2) Identifying Gender as a subject matter in German academia the German Research Foundation adopts equal opportunity standards based on research the Ministries of Scientific Research have started a programme to promote female professors (sponsoring of additional appointments of women) in the year 2009, the Ministry of Scientific Research NRW awards the prize Gleichstellungskonzept Geschlechtergerechte Hochschule (Gender Equality Programme for Academics) the Ministry of Scientific Research NRW allocates the part of the structural fund for successes in Gender Equality WWU Gender Equality as a profile characteristic 2
