- Controleer of alle velden zijn vergrendeld (A, B, C, fig. 6).

28 27 EXPLANATION OF SAFETY DECALS ON THE MACHINE Carefully read operator s manual before handling the machine. Observe instructions and safety rules when operating. Attention! Moving parts. Stay clear of rotating machine parts. Danger of flying objects. Maintain a sufficient, safe distance from the machine as long as the tractor engine is running. Danger of rotors dropping down. Keep away from the machine s movement area. Tractor PTO speed is never allowed to exceed 540 r.p.m. Danger of moving parts! Read the operating instruction of the PTO shaft. Never use a PTO shaft without protection.

28 1 INTRODUCTION The LOTUS 1325 is a 3 point linkage tedder with an effective working width of 13,25 m. A capacity up to approx. 18 ha/h can be achieved thanks to the massive working width and high forward speed at which the machine can be operated (up to 15 km/h). The LOTUS 1325 tedder comprises of 3 groups of 4 rotors (fig. 1). Six tine arms with double springsteel tines are fitted to each rotor. The special tine shape ensures that the crop is taken up and spread with a minimum amount of material loss. The rotors pivot in respect of one another allowing the LOTUS tedder to easily follow field undulations. Following irregular ground contours is also facilitated by the fact that the wheels are positioned close to the tines. The machine is adjusted to the transport position quickly and simply by means of a hydraulic control. Transport on the tractor s hydraulic lift is easy because the machine s transport width is only 3,00 m. 1 2 MOUNTING BEHIND THE TRACTOR!! - Mount the drawbar to the machine in such a position that the horizontal distance of its point of rotation in respect of the drive shaft is approximately equal to the distance of the catch hooks of the tractor in respect of the tractor PTO (fig. 2). - Adjust the tractor s three point hitch lower arms at equal height. - Fit the lower arms to the linkage pins of the bar. - Lift the drawbar slightly so that the parking jack is just clear of the ground. Maintain this height adjustment of the tractor lift during operations and transport. - Place the parking jack in the raised position. - Secure the tractor s lower arms by means of stabilisation chains or rods eliminating any sideways movements. - Check if the PTO shaft telescopes smoothly. - Mount the PTO shaft to the tractor PTO. At first assembly, or use of another tractor: check the minimum and maximum overlap of the shaft halves (Consult the instruction supplied with the PTO shaft.) 2

29 - Fit the safety chain of the protection tube to a rigid part of the tractor. - Fold down the PTO shaft support. - Connect the hydraulic hose (A, fig. 3) to a single acting hydraulic tractor valve with floating position. Max. allowed oil pressure: 17,5 MPa (175 bar). - Connect the hydraulic hoses (B+C, fig. 3) to a double acting hydraulic valve. B=pressureline,C=returnline Max. allowed oil pressure: 17,5 MPa (175 bar). - Adjust the support (fig. 4) in such a way that the levers can be controlled from the tractor cab. - Put the plug of the lighting cable into the 7-pole tractor socket. A C B 3 3 TRANSPORT After the machine has been adjusted to the transport position, it can be transported by the tractor. Transport width amounts to 3,00 m. - Use all such lighting and warning signals as are mandatory by law. - For transport on public roads: make sure that the front axle weight is sufficient (fit front weights, if necessary) and that the rear axle weight allowed as a maximum is not exceeded. - Adjust the machine to the transport position as follows. 4 Pressurize the pressure line of the control block. Switch the valves or exchange the valve connectors of the hoses if the hydraulic system does not function during any of the following procedures. Lift the rotors clear from the ground by means of lever (fig. 5). The intermediate chassis will then adjust to the vertical position. Apply lever to fold up the outer rotors and the four rear rotors. Turn the arms and the side fields forwards by means of lever. Apply lever to lower the arms into the locking system. 5

30! Remove the pressure from the pressure line of the control block. The oil pump of certain tractor models may incur damage as a result of sustained load. - Makesureallrotorsaredulylocked(A,B,C-fig.5). The machine is now ready for transport. A! Never allow the PTO shaft to rotate while the machine is in the transport position. B 4 MACHINE ADJUSTMENTS 4.1Conversion to the working position Make sure that nobody is near the machine when it is converted from the transport- to the working position.! - Proceed as follows to obtain the working position of the machine. Pressurize the pressure line of the control block. Switch the valves or exchange the valve connectors of the hoses if the hydraulic system does not function during any of the following procedures. Apply lever to lift the arms from the locking system (fig. 5). Move the arms and side rotors sideways by means of lever. Apply lever to unfold the outer rotors and the four rear rotors. Lower all rotors onto the ground by means of lever. In the process, the intermediate chassis will tilt forwards. Remove the pressure from the pressure line of the control block. C 6

31 4.2Adjustment of wheel supports - Lift the rotors clear from the ground by means of the single acting hydraulic tractor valve. - Adjust the land wheels in the position which ensures the largest clearance between the rotors and ground level (fig. 7). When having to deal with light crops, or in windy conditions, a more level machine adjustment may be required. For raking along plot sides: adjust the rotor on the plot side 1 or 2 positions lower than the remaining rotors. - Lower the rotors Tine adjustment - Adjust the tines in the outer position (A, fig. 8). For raking along plot sides: adjust the tines of the rotor on the plot side to the inner position (B, fig. 8). A B 8 4.4Adjustment of rotor angle! The angle of the rotors in respect of the ground should be such that the tines stroke the ground with a light pressure and that they take up the crop adequately. Deep adjustment causes undue strain which increases wear and tear as well as the risk of tine breakage. In addition to this, the crop is bound to get contaminated more easily. Forward tilting of the machine is limited by the abutment bush fitted on the central hydraulic ram (fig. 9). - Pressurize the double acting valve. - Lift the rotors clear from the ground by means of lever. The intermediate chassis will then adjust to the vertical position. 9

32 - Turn the abutment bush towards the yoke if a steeper adjustment is needed. If a more level adjustment is required, the abutment bush should be turned away from the yoke. - Lower all rotors onto the ground by means of lever. In the process, the intermediate chassis will tilt forwards. - Check the angle of the rotors and, if necessary, repeat the above mentioned proceedings. 5 OPERATING THE LOTUS Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the moment the PTO is engaged. Do not allow anyone to come within a 25 m radius from the machine during work. Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab. - If the machine is newly commissioned: first carry out the check and maintenance duties which are specified in 7.3 (Intermittent Maintenance) before starting the operation. 5.1General directions! - Engage the PTO at the lowest possible r.p.m. rate; then drive away. Never drive through a crop when the rotors are not rotating, since this may cause damage to the tines and tine arms. Especially in the early stage of the process, fast and airy tedding twice a day at a low r.p.m. rate is better than intensive spreading at a high rotor speed. When bends are taken in the field, machine operation need not be interrupted. - When turning on headlands, lift the rotors by means of the single hydraulic valve. Keep the machine running at a reduced r.p.m. until the fields are lowered again.

33 During operations, the single acting hydraulic valve has to be in the floating position. Forward tilting of the machine does not change if the single acting valve is actuated. If the crop is not picked up effectively: check if forward tilting of the machine is checked by the stop block on the central hydraulic ram (lever ). If necessary, re-adjust the angle of the rotors; see Forward speed and PTO speed Both pick-up and spreading of the crop are dependent on the forward speed and rotor r.p.m. speed. - Select the highest possible forward speed (up to 15 km/h as a maximum). - Operate at the lowest possible PTO output ( r.p.m.) always ensuring that the crop is picked up effectively. - Reduce your PTO output when windrows are formed during the tedding operation. 5.3Recommended procedure - Work the central part of the field by driving up and down. Leave a strip equal to 1 working width free on all sides of the field (, fig. 10). In windy conditions, drive up and down across the direction of the wind. - Adjust the rotor which hugs the plot side 1 or 2 positions lower and adjust the tines of this rotor inwards. - Finish the plot by driving round and round ( ). direction of the wind 10

34 6 DISMOUNTING FROM THE TRACTOR The machine can be dismounted from the tractor both in the working- and in the transport position. - Switch off the tractor engine. - Set the parking jack in the bottom position. - Lower the hydraulic lift until the parking jack rests on the ground. - Disconnect the PTO shaft from the tractor PTO. - Place the PTO shaft on the support (fig. 11). - Depressurize the hydraulic system and disconnect the hydraulic hoses. Place the hose connectors in their supports (fig. 12). - Remove the plug for lighting from the socket in the tractor. - Uncouple the lower arms from the machine MAINTENANCE! Correct machine servicing is necessary with a view to reliable and safe working. 7.1Maintenance after operations 12 - Clean the machine thoroughly. - Check the tines and tine arms for tightness and damage, if any. - Grease the machine with a rust preventive. Pay special attention to the tines. Smooth tines without any rust stimulate an unhampered crop flow. - Grease the piston rods with an anti-corrosion agent if a longer period of inactivity is anticipated. Remove the agent when putting the machine back into operation. If not, sealing of the ram may be affected after hardening of the anti-corrosion agent.

35 7.2Lubrication - Apply grease to all nipples on the machine (fig. 13). When greasing the gearboxes, keep turning the rotors bit by bit ensuring effective distribution of grease all over the gears. - Grease or lubricate all remaining pivot points every 40 working hours.
