3 Installation The Cisco SPA122 is an analog telephone adapter. This device allows standard two-wire analog phones, fax machines,or modems to be converted to VOIP. The following guide describes the proper method of installing the SPA122 for use in the Placetel Network. Connecting the Phone Line Insert the standard RJ11 plug on one end of a standard phone cord into the phone port on the analog device being converted Insert the standard RJ11 plug on the other end of the cable into the PHONE 1 port on the back of the SPA122 as shown in Figure 1 If two analog devices are being connected to the SPA122, repeat the above steps for the second device using the PHONE 2 port on the back of the SPA122 for the second device WARNING: the phone ports on the SPA122 can be wired into existing site wiring to simultaneously enable multiple phone jacks at the site. However, if this is done, the site wiring must be disconnected from the public switched telephone network at the site demarcation to prevent lightning surge damage to the SPA122 during storms FINOCOM AG / PLACETEL SEITE 3

4 Connecting the Internet Link Insert the standard RJ45 plug on one end of a standard Ethernet cable into an active Ethernet port on the customer LAN Insert the standard RJ45 plug on the other end of the cable into the INTERNET port on the back of the SPA122 as shown in Figure 2 WARNING: when configured on the Placetel Network the Ethernet port on the SPA122 is supported in bridge mode as a switch port. This port will not be supported as a home router. If devices inside the office (such as a printer or computer) were connected to this port they will be able to properly communicate with other devices on the customers LAN. However, it must be noted that anytime the SPA122 is powered off or rebooting, this switch port will be down FINOCOM AG / PLACETEL SEITE 4

5 Connecting the AC Power Insert the AC power plug into wall outlet, surge protector or UPS device Insert the AC Power plug into the power port on the back of the SPA122 as shown in Figure 3 WARNING: it is highly recommended that the SPA122 be plugged into a suitable and reliable surge protector or UPS device. A UPS should be used in applications that are sensitive to phone up time and experience frequent short power outages FINOCOM AG / PLACETEL SEITE 5

6 Manual Reconfiguration WARNING: THIS PROCEDURE DESCRIBES HOW TO MANUALLY RECONFIGURE A CISCO SPA122 ATA DEVICE TO WORK ON THE PLACETEL NETWORK. ONCE THIS PROCEDURE HAS BEEN COMPLETED, ANY PRIOR CONFIGURATION SETTINGS ON THE DEVICE WILL BE OVERRIDDEN, INCLUDING THE ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD, AND THE DEVICE WILL ONLY BE USABLE ON THE PLACETEL NETWORK. THE DEVICE MUST BE RETURNED TO THE LINKSYS FACTORY DEFAULT CONFIGURATION BEFORE IT CAN BE USED ON ANY OTHER NETWORK. Ensure the Cisco SPA122 has been factory defaulted Connect a PC to the SPA122 Ethernet (yellow) port, then power on your PC Open a web browser and enter in the address bar To log in enter admin as the user and admin as the password Click the Voice tab Click the Provisioning tab Enter the following link in Profile Rule. For Europe, enter Select Submit All Changes at the bottom of the page When the GUI returns, select the "Administration" tab Click the Reboot tab Click the Reboot button Click "OK" in the popup confirming the reboot Wait 5-10 minutes for the new configuration to download FINOCOM AG / PLACETEL SEITE 6

7 Once the second boot process has completed, the device will be provisioned for use in the Placetel network. If the station assignment process was properly completed prior to the reboot, the device will boot into a station specific assigned/usable state. If not, the device will boot into a default unassigned/unusable state, and will remain in this state until the site administrator has completed the station assignment process. If this occurs, contact your site administrator and request that station assignment be completed for the device in question. Note: when configured on the Placetel Network the Yellow Ethernet port on the SPA122 is supported in bridge mode as a switch port. This port will not supported as a home router. If devices inside the office (such as a printer or computer) were connected to this port they will be able to properly communicate with other devices on the customers LAN.
