Daniel SPAW Conductor American conductor Daniel Spaw began his tenure as 1st Kapellmeister and Associate Music Director at Theater Hof (DE) at the beginning of the 2017/18 season. The young, highly talented conductor (Oberösterreichische Nachrichten) was awarded the post after a successful period as Kapellmeister at the Landestheater Linz (AT), where he led the Bruckner Orchester Linz in performances of, among others, SALOME, CARMEN, DON GIOVANNI and DIE FLEDERMAUS. Spaw debuted with the Hofer Symphoniker by leading performances of Richard Wagner s THE FLYING DUTCHMAN. In 2015, Spaw conducted the premiere of LA TRAVIATA, directed by world renowned artist and director Robert Wilson. His performance received international attention and was critically acclaimed by publications such as the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), and the Presse of Vienna. The aforementioned FAZ wrote, in September 2015, of the moments of captivating silence, when general pauses were savored, and a poignant intimacy was felt when Spaw led the Bruckner Orchestra Linz to produce an extremely soft, chamber-music-like, lucid sound. The 2017/18 season sees Spaw s debuts both with the Pfalztheater Orchester Kaiserslautern as well as with the Bundesjugendorchester, or National Youth Orchestra of Germany. With the latter, he assists Sir Simon Rattle during the Baden-Baden Easter Music Festival. Equally at home with musicals, Spaw adds to his broad musical repertoire this season by conducting the premiere of SWEET CHARITY, having also conducted the premiere of Stephen Sondheim s INTO THE WOODS, directed by Matthias Davids in Linz. There he also led performances of SINGIN IN THE RAIN and SHOW BOAT, as well as several others. The Nashvillian was also scholarship recipient of the International Richard Wagner Society, and earned degrees in both piano performance from Indiana University (Bloomington), as well as in orchestral conducting from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Cologne). He has worked with the Hofer Symphoniker, the Bruckner Orchester Linz, the Johann Strauß Ensemble, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Orchester des Pfalztheaters Kaiserslautern, the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, the Russian Chamber Philharmonic St. Petersburg, the Bergische Symphoniker, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, and Concerto con Anima (on period instruments).
