4 Editorial Milí priatelia Twin City JournAlu, čas od obdobia, keď myšlienka vytvoriť kvalitný programový mesačník, ktorý zachytí kultúrno-spoločenské dianie v Bratislave s bonusom Twin City regiónu, dostala zelenú, ukázal, že časopis v takomto ponímaní má schopnosť prežiť a nájsť si svojho stáleho čitateľa. Potešili nás všetky povzbudivé y v roku 2006 z kultúrnych inštitúcií, ale aj osobné vyznania. Boli pre nás povzbudením a potvrdili, že vytvárať mienkotvorný mesačník, bez bulvárnych vstupov, má aj dnes na Slovensku veľký význam. Ďakujeme. Ďakujeme vám, ktorí ste prijali a ocenili netradičné výtvarné spracovanie grafického dizajnu, ktoré dnes už robí dobré meno Bratislave. V roku 2006 Twin City Journal priniesol okrem kultúrno-spoločenského diania spoznávanie aj na poli komunálnych tém v Bratislave, ale aj vo Viedni. Náš mesačník propagoval rovnako štátne celoslovenské kultúrne inštitúcie so sídlom v Bratislave, ale aj podujatia z dielne súkromného sektora. Chceme tým povedať, že sme sa neuzavreli do mestského sveta kultúry, ale vnímame Bratislavu ako hlavné mesto SR so všetkým, čo k nej patrí. Preto plánujeme v roku 2007 poskytnúť priestor aj iným mestám, spoznávaniu ich spoločensko-kultúrneho diania, ktoré chcú tvorcovia spropagovať aj v Bratislave a v regióne Twin City. Našim čitateľom by sme zároveň chceli pripomenúť, že časopis vychádza z dielne hlavného mesta Bratislavy a slúži v prvom rade na orientáciu Bratislavčanov a návštevníkov nášho hlavného mesta. Jazykové mutácie však prinášajú možnosť spoznávať blízku Viedeň, spropagovať našu kultúru nielen tam, no aj v ostatných hlavných mestách Európy. Príspevky z Viedne sa budú v roku 2007 ešte hlbšie zaoberať kultúrnym životom metropoly, históriou, jej osobnosťami, aby nepoznané (rokmi izolácie) nezostávalo len pre určitú elitu, ale sa dostalo k širokej verejnosti. V neposlednom rade ďakujeme vedeniu hlavného mesta za odvahu podporiť tento mediálny projekt. Milí čitatelia, veríme, že náš Journal vám bude naďalej prinášať radosť! Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des Twin City Journals Die Zeit seit Entstehen des Twin City Journals hat gezeigt, dass eine Zeitschrift, die das kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Geschehen in Bratislava erfasst und noch den Bonus der Twin City-Region besitzt, die Fähigkeit hat, zu überleben und sich dabei eine feste Leserschaft zu sichern. Wir haben uns 2006 sehr über die aufmunternden s der Kulturinstitute gefreut, ebenso wie über die persönliche Anerkennung einzelner Personen. Sie waren für uns anspornend und haben bestätigt, dass eine meinungsbildende Monatszeitschrift selbst ohne Boulevardmeldungen auch heute noch eine Bedeutung in der Slowakei haben kann. Wir danken Ihnen, dass Sie das innovative grafische Design angenommen und gewürdigt haben, das sich in Bratislava heute bereits großer Bekanntheit erfreut hat uns das Twin City Journal außer über die kulturellen und gesellschaftlichen Ereignisse auch über kommunale Themen informiert, die wir nicht als Doppelung zu unseren Tageszeitungen gedacht haben, sondern mehr als offeneres und tieferes Kennenlernen des nicht Selbstverständlichen in Bratislava, aber auch in Wien. Unser Twin City Journal hat ebenso für staatliche slowakische Kulturinstitute geworben wie für Veranstaltungen aus der privaten Kunstszene. Das heißt für uns, dass wir uns nicht in unsere kleine Stadtwelt eingeschlossen haben, sondern Bratislava als Hauptstadt der Slowakei wahrnehmen mit allem, was zu ihr gehört. Aus diesem Grund wollen wir 2007 Platz für andere Städte einräumen, die ihre kulturellen Veranstaltungen auch in Bratislava und der Twin City Region bekannt machen möchten. Unsere LeserInnen möchten wir gleichzeitig daran erinnern, dass unsere Zeitschrift in der Hauptstadt Bratislava entsteht und in erster Linie zur Orientierung für die BürgerInnen und BesucherInnen der Hauptstadt dient. Die Mehrsprachigkeit des Magazins ermöglicht auch, das nahe Wien kennen zu lernen und unsere Kultur auch dort und in den übrigen Hauptstädten Europas zu präsentieren. Die Beiträge aus Wien werden sich 2007 noch ausführlicher mit dem dortigen kulturellen Leben, seiner Geschichte und seinen Persönlichkeiten befassen, damit das Unbekannte (noch aus der Zeit der Isolation) nicht nur einer kleinen Elite vorbehalten bleibt, sondern auch der breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht wird. Abschließend bedanken wir uns bei der Leitung der Hauptstadt für ihren Mut, unser mediales Projekt zu unterstützen. Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, wir glauben ganz fest daran, dass unser Journal Ihnen auch weiterhin viel Freude bringt! Dear Friends of The Twin City Journal a period of time passed since the moment when a green light was given to the idea of establishing a good quality programme magazine, which would encompass the cultural and social events in Bratislava, including, in addition a bonus of the Twin City region, and it showed, that such journal is able to survive and can find its stable reader. We were pleased by all the encouraging s that came during 2006 from cultural institutions but also by the personal confessions. It was you who provided encouragement for us and who confirmed that it does have a sense to establish in Slovakia an opinioncreating monthly without the tabloid entries. Thank you for that. Thank to you, who accepted and acknowledged the untraditional artistic processing of a graphical design that today means already a credit for Bratislava. Apart from the cultural and social events provided the Twin City Journal also for gaining of some information from the communal field in 2006, the fact, which we perceived not as duplicity of information from our dailies but rather as opening and deeper understanding of something that remained unclear in Bratislava but also in Vienna. Our Twin City Journal provided promotion equally to the state whole-slovakian cultural institutions seated in Bratislava as to the events prepared by the private sector. What we want to say is, that we didn t lock ourselves to the urban world of culture but we do perceive Bratislava with everything what belongs to it. Therefore, during 2007 we want to provide some space also for other cities, to learning about their social and cultural life that would creators of this journal further promote in Bratislava and the Twin City region. At the same time we would like to remind to our readers that the journal is published by the Capital City of Bratislava and serves primarily to orientation of the Bratislava citizens and to Bratislava visitors. Nevertheless, the language mutations are bringing opportunity to learn about the so close Vienna and to promote our culture not only there but in other capital cities within Europe as well. Contributions from Vienna shall be even deeper dealing with the cultural life of metropolis in 2007, with its history and personalities, so the unknown (because of our previous isolation) would not be provided just to the certain elite but would become known to the wide public. And last but not least, thanks to the Capital City management for courage to provide support for our media project. 5 Andrej Ďurkovský, primátor hlavného mesta SR Bratislavy / Oberbürgermeister der Hauptstadt der Slowakischen Republik Bratislava / Mayor of the SR Capital City, Bratislava Vážení čitatelia, som rád, že Twin City Journal vstupuje do druhého kalendárneho roka vydávania. Úprimne mu želám, aby si v roku 2007 naplnil všetky obsahové, žánrové a ideové ambície. V nedávnej minulosti sme spolu boli svedkami viacerých nádejných zámerov a pokusov vydávať programový mesačník Bratislavy, ktoré však postupne zanikali. Som si vedomý, že udržať nové periodikum na mediálnej scéne si vyžaduje nesmierne úsilie tvorcov a vydavateľa. Do nového roku vstupujeme s radosťou, že Twin City Journal prežil a začína si vytvárať svoje verné čitateľské zázemie. Popri iných strategických projektoch, ktoré nás v najbližších rokoch v hlavnom meste čakajú, bude našou trvalou snahou budovať dobrý imidž Bratislavy aj u obyvateľov iných slovenských miest a regiónov. Som rád, že práve Twin City Journal prináša informácie zo všetkých celoslovenských kultúrnych inštitúcií, ktoré máme tú česť hostiť v hlavnom meste. Som presvedčený, že ak sa bude dariť Bratislave, bude sa dariť aj celému Slovensku a to platí aj pre oblasť kultúry a jej prezentácie. Osobne sa teším v roku 2007 na výborné kultúrne tipy, ďalšie vzájomné spoznávanie a dobré námety do mestského časopisu. Tvorcom a čitateľom Twin City Journalu želám v roku 2007 veľa zdravia a úspechov! Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, es freut mich, dass das Twin City Journal nun schon im zweiten Jahr erscheint. Ich wünsche ihm, dass sich für das Jahr 2007 alle inhaltlichen Ziele und Ideen erfüllen. Es ist noch gar nicht so lange her, als wir Zeugen einiger viel verspechender Vorhaben und Ziele waren, die ein monatliches Programm für Bratislava zum Inhalt hatten, mit der Zeit aber wieder verschwanden. Es ist mir bewusst, was es für überdurchschnittliche Anstrengungen seitens der kreativen Köpfe und des Herausgebers bedeutet, ein neues Periodikum auf dem medialen Markt zu etablieren. Um so mehr freut mich, dass das Twin City Journal überlebt hat und beginnt, eine feste Leserschaft zu entwickeln. Neben anderen strategischen Projekten, die uns in den nächsten Jahren in der Hauptstadt erwarten, ist eines davon die Bemühung, das Image von Bratislava auch bei den Bewohnern der anderen slowakischen Städte und Regionen zu verbessern. Es freut mich, dass gerade das Twin City Journal Informationen über die gesamtslowakischen Kulturinstitute gibt, die wir in der Hauptstadt ehrenvoll behandeln. Ich bin davon überzeugt, wenn es in Bratislava gut läuft, dann auch in der übrigen Slowakei und das gilt auch für den Kulturbereich. Persönlich freue ich mich 2007 auf hervorragende kulturelle Tipps, ein weiteres gegenseitiges Kennenlernen und gute Themen in der Stadtzeitung. Den Gestaltern und LeserInnen des Twin City Journals wünsche ich für das Jahr 2007 viel Erfolg und Gesundheit! Dear readers, I feel happy for the Twin City Journal, which is entering its second calendar year of publishing. For 2007 I would like to wish it from the bottom of my heart that the journal would achieve and fulfil all its content, genre and ideology ambitions. In the recent past we have witnessed together several promising intentions and attempts to publish for Bratislava a programme monthly journal, which have nevertheless gradually failed. I am well aware that to preserve the new periodical on the media scene requires enormous effort from the creators and from the publisher as well. We are entering the New Year delighted that the Twin City Journal is still here and it starts to establish its loyal readership background. Side by side with other strategic projects that are expecting the Capital City and us in the near future, shall be our permanent effort to maintain the good image of Bratislava also among inhabitants of other Slovak cities and regions. I am happy that it is exactly the Twin City Journal that brings information from all nation-wide Slovak cultural institutions, which we are honoured to welcome in our city. I am convinced that if Bratislava shall flourish, also the whole Slovakia shall be prospering and this is valid also for the area of culture and its presentation. Personally, I am looking forward to some excellent cultural hints in 2007, to further mutual learning about each other and to good topics for the city journal. To creators and readers of the Twin City Journal I wish a good health and lots of success for 2007.

6 rozhovory V novom roku v novom divadle Dlhšie očakávaná zmena sa v najbližších dňoch stane realitou. Naša prvá divadelná scéna si prepíše adresu. Skeptici možno zanovito odporujú, optimisti už balia kulisy... Je to dobrá správa pre všetkých? Aj o tom sme sa zhovárali s generálnou riaditeľkou SND Silviou Hroncovou. Silvia Hroncová Vzťah verejnosti k novej budove divadla sa zaiste bude formovať dlhšie. Ako však túto zmenu prežívajú ľudia spoza opony umelci, dramaturgia, výtvarníci, technici...? Môžete povedať, čo všetko sa zmení? Presunom do novej budovy začína Slovenské národné divadlo svoju novú éru, čo iste prinesie aj veľa zmien. Nové priestory ponúknu nové možnosti, ktoré na jednej strane dovolia národnému divadlu realizovať odvážnejšie projekty, na druhej strane prilákajú na hosťovanie prestížne európske divadelné scény. V tejto súvislovsti spomeniem napríklad hosťovanie prestížneho holandského tanečného súboru Nederlands Dans Theater II s choreografiami Jiřího Kyliána. To, čo by zas malo určite zostať z doterajšieho pôsobenia našej prvej scény, prípadne ešte vzrastať, je vysoká umelecká kvalita. Slovenské národné divadlo sa nielen Bratislavčanom, ale celému Slovensku spája predovšetkým s historickou budovou na Hviezdoslavovom námestí. Nastanú nejaké zmeny aj v jej využívaní? Historická budova na Hviezdoslavovom námestí zostáva SND aj po otvorení novej budovy. Novinkou však bude, že zatiaľ čo doteraz vystupovali na javisku historickej budovy dva súbory Opera a Balet, po 14. apríli sa k nim pridá aj tretí umelecký súbor Činohra SND. Myslím, že to bude pre našich divákov príjemné osvieženie. Zvyknutí sme aj na činoherné pódiá Malú scénu a Divadlo P. O. Hviezdoslava. Kam budeme chodiť na činohru? Na spomínaných javiskách budeme hrať už len do konca marca. Verím, že táto informácia poslúži aj ako pozvánka pre našich divákov, ktorí sa radi prídu rozlúčiť s týmito priestormi. O činohru však diváci neprídu, naopak, ako som už spomenula, bude sa hrávať v historickej budove a svoje pôsobenie rozšíri aj do dvoch sál v novej budove vo veľkej Činohre a v Štúdiu. Hľadisko Opery SND je doslova atakované zahraničnými hosťami. Ich dobrý pocit z vynikajúcich umeleckých výkonov umocňuje aj historické prostredie interiéru divadla, no v neposlednom rade aj príjemný vzhľad historického jadra Bratislavy. To sa o bezprostrednom okolí novej budovy zatiaľ nedá povedať. Neovplyvní to dopyt po návštevnosti? Ako sa s tým v prvých mesiacoch vysporiadate? Som presvedčená, že umelecká kvalita je a i naďalej zostane tým najdôležitejší kritériom pre našich divákov. Nedokonalosť okolia bude trvať len krátky čas, veď nové centrum Bratislavy Eurovea, ktorého súčasťou je nová budova SND, má byť dokončené v marci Všetci sa už veľmi tešíme, je to unikátny projekt, ktorý dodá Bratislave, a teda aj divadlu, ďalší rozmer. Na prvé oficiálne predstavenie v nových priestoroch SND je iste pripravený bonbónik. Môžete prezradiť, čím otvoríte prvú scénu? Otvorenie nového divadla chápeme ako celospoločenskú a celoslovenskú udalosť, ktorú bude pravdepodobne udalosťou roka. Nové národné divadlo sa predsa neotvára každý rok, dokonca ani každá generácia nemá to šťastie prežiť takúto udalosť. Pri tejto príležitosti pripravujeme víkend otvorených dverí. V jeho rámci si budú môcť naše nové divadlo prezrieť ľudia z celého Slovenska, pripravujeme programy aj pre rodiny, určené všetkým generáciám. Nové divadlo otvoríme 14. apríla 2007 slávnostným galavečerom a národnou operou Eugena Suchoňa Krútňavou. Keďže prvé predstavenie je len začiatok, podstatné a dôležité sú tie ďalšie dni, mesiace, roky... Čo pripravujete, aby sa aj nové priestory v krátkom čase stali pre milovníkov Tálie skutočne národnými, obľúbenými, navštevovanými a spájali sa s uznaním a hrdosťou nás všetkých? Situácia nebude nová len pre návštevníkov, ale aj pre nás všetkých, ktorí chceme v tradícii dobrého divadla pokračovať a neprestajne sa zlepšovať. Aj za svoj kolektív hovorím, že na výzvu hrať v nových priestoroch sa tešíme a veríme, že publikum nám v tom pomôže. Z nových titulov by som našich divákov rada pozvala napríklad na baletnú inscenáciu Warhol a rozprávkový titul Popolvár, z činoherných predstavení na Hamleta Williama Shakespeara, R.U.R. 7 interviews BRATISLAVA CITY Im neuen Jahr im neuen Theater Eine weitere, bereits lang erwartete Veränderung passiert in den nächsten Tagen. Unser erstes Theater am Platz zieht um. Die Skeptiker werden wohl weiterhin Widerstand leisten, die Optimisten packen jedoch schon die Kulissen zusammen... Ist das für alle eine gute Nachricht? Auch darüber haben wir mit der Generaldirektorin des Slowakischen Nationaltheaters, Silvia Hroncová, gesprochen. Es braucht bestimmt seine Zeit, bis die Öffentlichkeit ein Verhältnis zu dem neuen Gebäude gefunden hat. Wie erleben die Menschen hinter dem Vorhang - Künstler, Dramaturgen, bildende Künstler, Techniker... - diese Veränderung? Können Sie uns sagen, was genau alles anders wird? Mit dem Umzug in das neue Gebäude fängt für das Slowakische Nationaltheater eine neue Ära an, die bestimmt auch viele Änderungen mit sich bringt. Die neuen Räume eröffnen neue Möglichkeiten. Zum einen lassen sich gewagtere Projekte realisieren und zum anderen ziehen sie die prestigereichen Bühnen aus dem übrigen Europa an. In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich das angesehene niederländische Nederlands Dans Theater II mit den Choreographien von Jiři Kylian anführen. So etwas sollte uns vom Wirken im alten Theater erhalten bleiben und die hohe künstlerische Qualität sollte sich noch mehr verbessern. Das Slowakische Nationaltheater ist für die BürgerInnen von Bratislava, sogar für die ganze Slowakei mit dem historischen Gebäude am Hviezdoslavovo Platz verbunden. Was geschieht nun mit ihm? Es bleibt auch weiterhin das Slowakische Nationaltheater. Bislang traten dort nur zwei Ensembles auf und zwar die Oper und das Ballett, ab dem 14. April kommt dann noch das Schauspiel hinzu. Ich glaube, dass das für unsere ZuschauerInnen eine willkommene Abwechslung ist. Wir sind auch an die kleineren Theater wie die Mála scéna und das P.O. Hviezdoslavova gewöhnt. Wo schauen wir uns dann die Stücke an? Dort spielen wir nur noch bis Ende März. Das ist wohl auch eine Einladung an die ZuschauerInnen, die gerne noch einmal dorthin kommen, um sich von den dortigen Räumen zu verabschieden. Sie werden aber nicht ums Schauspiel gebracht, denn das zieht ja in das historische Gebäude ein und ausserdem gibt es eine Erweiterung um zwei weitere Bühnen im neuen Gebäude das große Schauspielhaus und das Studio. Das Nationaltheater wird regelrecht von ausländischen Besuchern attackiert. Sie fühlen sich nicht nur aufgrund der hervorragenden künstlerischen Leistungen wohl, sondern auch wegen des historischen Interieurs und zudem noch wegen des wundervollen Blicks auf den Altstadtkern von Bratislava. Die beiden letzteren Dinge lassen sich nun nicht gerade über das neue Gebäude sagen. Das beeinflusst doch auch die Besucherzahlen, wie wollen Sie damit in den ersten Monaten umgehen? Ich glaube ganz fest, dass das künstlerische Niveau auch in Zukunft das wichtigste Kriterium für unsere ZuschauerInnen bleibt. Die bislang noch unzulängliche Umgebung ändert sich ja in absehbarer Zeit. Das Eurovea Centrum soll ja schon 2009 fertiggestellt sein und das Nationaltheater ist als ein Bestandteil darin integriert. Darauf freuen wir uns alle schon, es ist ein einzigartiges Projekt, dass Bratislava und damit auch dem Theater eine weitere Dimension gibt. Zur ersten offiziellen Vorstellung in den neuen Räumen des Nationaltheaters ist bestimmt etwas ganz Besonderes geplant. Verraten Sie uns, womit die erste Szene eröffnet wird? Die Eröffnung des neuen Theaters verstehen wir als eine gesamtgesellschaftliche und gesamtslowakische Angelegenheit und wird wahrscheinlich die Veranstaltung des Jahres. Ein neues Nationaltheater wird ja nicht jeden Tag eröffnet. Aus diesem Anlass bereiten wir einen Tag der offenen Tür vor. Innerhalb dieses Rahmens können sich die Leute aus der ganzen Slowakei das Theater anschauen. Es gibt ein Familienprogramm, dass alle Generationen anspricht. Die Eröffnung findet am 14. April mit einem Galaabend statt. Aufgeführt wird die Oper Krútňava des slowakischen Komponisten Eugen Suchoň. Auch wenn die erste Vorstellung ein besonderes Erlebnis ist, wichtig sind dann aber auch die darauf folgenden Tage, Monate und Jahre... Was wollen Sie tun, damit die neuen Räume geliebt, besucht und zum Stolz von uns allen werden? Die Situation ist nicht nur für die BesucherInnen neu, aber auch für uns, die mit der Tradition des guten Theaters fortfahren und sich weiter verbessern möchten. Ich sage unseren Leuten, dass sie sich auf die Herausforderung, in neuen Räumlichkeiten zu spielen, freuen sollen und das uns das Publikum bestimmt dabei hilft. Gerne lade ich unsere ZuschauerInnen zu einem unserer neuen Stücke ein, wie z.b. die Ballettinszenierung Warhol, Popolvár (Taugenichts) und Hamlet von Shakespeare oder das neue Schauspiel von Viliam Klimáček wer hat Angst vor den Beatles und von den Opern kann ich nur Verdis Troubador empfehlen. 8 rozhovory BRATISLAVA CITY In The New Year In The New Theatre Change expected for some time already shall become reality in the nearest few days. Our theatre scene No. 1 shall be rewriting its address. Sceptics probably stubbornly oppose, the optimists are already packing the coulisse Is this good news for everybody? Also this theme we were discussing with Ms Silvia Hroncová, General Directress of the Slovak National Theatre. It will surely take some time until relation of public towards the new theatre building will be formed. How do live out this change people from behind the curtain performers, dramaturgy, artists, and technicians? Could you tell us what everything shall be changed? By moving into the new building the Slovak National Theatre starts its new era and this would bring many changes. New premises shall be at one hand offering new opportunities enabling the Slovak National Theatre to realize more courageous projects, but at the other hand it shall attract prestigious European theatre scenes to come here and give some guests performances. In this connection I would like to mention for example the guest performance by prestigious dance ensemble, The Nederlands Dans Theater II with choreography by Jiří Kylián. What should remain with us from the present qualities of this theatre or what should possibly even grow is the high artistic quality. For not only the Bratislava citizens but also for Slovakia as whole, the Slovak National Theatre is connected with the historical building at Hviezdoslavovo Square. Shall here come to some changes in the way how it is being used? The historical building at Hviezdoslavovo Square shall remain property of the Slovak National Theatre also after the new building is opened. The news is, that while until presently there were two ensembles performing at the historical building stage the Opera and Ballet, after 14 April they will be joined by the third artistic ensemble the Drama Company. I think, that this would bring a pleasant refreshment for our spectators. We are used to the drama stages Malá scéna and Divadlo P. O. Hviezdoslava. At stages you have mentioned we shall be only playing until the end of March. I hope that this information shall be serving also as an invitation for our visitors who would gladly come to say goodbye to the old premises. Nevertheless, our spectators wouldn t be deprived of the drama section, on the contrary, as I have already mentioned, the drama will be performed in the historical building and the activities shall be enhanced to another two halls in the new building to the Great Drama Scene and to the Studio. The Opera SND auditorium is usually literally attacked by foreign visitors. Their good impression arising from the excellent artistic performance enhances also historical environment of the theatre interior and also agreeable appearance of the historical centre of Bratislava. This cannot be said so far about the nearest surroundings of the new building. Wouldn t this fact influence the attendance? How would you cope with this during the first months? I am convinced that the artistic quality is and will be also for the future the most important criterion for our spectators. Imperfection within the surroundings shall only last for a short time, after all, the new Bratislava centre Eurovea, to which the new National Theatre building belongs should be ready in March We all are really looking forward to it; it is a unique project, which shall bestow Bratislava and in this way also the theatre with further dimension. There is surely a plum prepared for the first official performance in the new premises of the Slovak National Theatre. Can you reveal what will be the opening performance at the theatre? We perceive opening of a new theatre as an event that concerns the whole society, the whole Slovakia that will probably become event of the year. After all, there is no new theatre opened every year, not even each generation have such a good luck as to witness such an event. At this occasion we are preparing a weekend of Open Doors. So can people from around the whole Slovakia visit and see our new theatre during this weekend and we are preparing programs for the whole families, dedicated to all generations. We shall open the new theatre on 14 April 2007 by a festive gala evening and with the national opera by Eugen Suchoň, Krútňava (The Whirlpool). As the first performance only means a beginning, essential and important are the following days, months and years What are you preparing to ensure that the new premises become really national, loved and visited by the Thalia lovers within a short time and to become a synonym of recognition and pride for all of us? The situation will be new not only for the visitors but for all of us who want to continue tradition of a good theatre and who even constantly try to improve it. For myself as well as for the whole team I would like to say that we are looking forward to the challenge of playing in the new premises and we believe that the audience would help us in our effort. As far as new titles are concerned I would like to invite our spectators to the ballet performance Warhol, a fairy tale title Popolvár, from drama titles I would offer William Shakespeare s Hamlet, R.U.R. (Rossum s Universal Robots) by Karel Čapek, or a new play by Viliam Klimáček: Kto sa bojí Beatles (Who is afraid of Beatles) a from the opera offer I would surely recommend the Verdi s Il Trovatore. 9 interviews VIENNA CITY Ich werde das Belvedere mit neuem Leben erfüllen! Seit 1. Jänner ist Agnes Husslein-Arco die neue Direktorin der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere. In unserem Inteview verrät sie neue Pläne für eine der bekanntesten Galerien der Welt. Agnes Husslein-Arco Einst die Residenz des Prinzen Eugen von Savoyen war das Wiener Barockschloss Belvedere oft Schauplatz österreichischer Geschichte wurde in den Räumlichkeiten des Oberen Belvedere der Staatsvertrag unterzeichnet, der Österreich Souveränität und Neutralität bescherte. Heute beherbergt diese Sehenswürdigkeit eine der größten Kunstsammlungen der Welt. Die Sammlungen der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere reichen vom Mittelalter bis zur zeitgenössischen Kunst. Der besondere Schatz des Belvedere liegt in Hauptwerken der großen österreichischen Maler der Jahrhundertwende Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele und Oskar Kokoschka. Seit Jahresbeginn steht die Kunsthistorikerin Agnes Husslein-Arco an der Spitze der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere. Ihr kunstgeschichtliches Wissen sammelte sie an den berühmten Kunsthäusern Sotheby s und Guggenheim, zuletzt leitete sie das Museum der Moderne in Salzburg. Noch vor dem offiziellen Amtsantritt kündigte die neue Direktorin umfassende Umstrukturierungen an, die der Galerie mehr Attraktivität verleihen sollen. Besonders wird man sich dem Unteren Belvedere widmen, das bisher unter geringen Besucherzahlen litt. All das war Anlass genug, um die neue Belvedere-Direktorin über ihre neuen Pläne detaillierter zu befragen. In den letzten Tagen wurde die Verlegung von Teilen der Sammlungen in der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere angekündigt. Der berühmte Znaimer Altar ist schon aus dem Unteren ins Obere Belvedere übersiedelt. Welche Pläne stehen dahinter? Der Transport des berühmten Znaimer Altares ist der Auftakt zur großen Neuaufstellung der Sammlungen des Belvedere. Künftig wird die gesamte österreichische Kunst vom Mittelalter bis 1945 im Oberen Belvedere zu sehen sein. Im Unteren Belvedere finden ab März 2007 alle großen Sonderausstellungen statt. Seit Jänner sind Sie Direktorin der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere. Was würden Sie als Ihre Toppriorität für dieses Jahr bezeichnen? Die sicherlich wichtigste Aufgabe ist die Generalsanierung des Unteren Belvedere. Das Haus lag bisher in einem Dornröschenschlaf. Wir bauen das Schloss, die Orangerie und den Prunkstall in - den heutigen technischen Anforderungen entsprechende - Ausstellungsräume um. Die historische Substanz wird dabei aufgewertet. Die original erhaltenen Prunkräume des Schlosses werden künftig eine wichtige Rolle im Ensemble einnehmen. Zeitgenössische künstlerische Interventionen in den barocken Räumlichkeiten werden aufregende Akzente setzen. Das Wechselspiel von Neu und Alt finde ich besonders spannend. In einem Interview für die Wiener Zeitung haben Sie über den Geldmangel im Belvedere geklagt. Erwarten Sie von der gerade angelobten rot-schwarzen Regierung höhere Dotierungen für Ihr Haus? Eine Erhöhung der Basisabgeltung für unser Museum ist absolut nötig. Ich bin zuversichtlich, dass die neue Kulturministerin, Claudia Schmied, in dieser Hinsicht ausgewogene und mutige Entscheidungen treffen wird. Das Belvedere beherbergt eine der weltweit wichtigsten Sammlungen. Wie wird sich Ihre Tätigkeit in Bezug auf das weitere Sammeln von Kunstwerken gestalten? Das Sammeln von Kunst ist eine der Kernaufgaben des Belvedere. Unter meinem Vorgänger hat es zuletzt aus Budgetgründen fast keine Ankäufe mehr gegeben. Das muss sich ändern. Durch die Erhöhung der Basisabgeltung wird es hier mehr Spielraum geben. Und der Kontakt zu Sponsoren und Mäzenen wird natürlich auch ein wichtiger Part meiner Aufgaben sein. Dabei hilft mir mein gutes Netzwerk, das ich mir bei meinen Tätigkeiten u. a. für Sotheby s und Guggenheim, aufgebaut habe. Welche Ausstellungs-Highlights können die Besucher in diesem Jahr erwarten? Zum Frühlingsbeginn überraschen wir mit der Ausstellung Gartenlust. Der Garten in der Kunst. Das ist die erste Ausstellung in der neu adaptierten Orangerie mit Werken von Monet und Klimt bis zu Lois Weinberger und Dan Graham. Was ist das Besondere an Schloss Belvedere und seinen Sammlungen, das Sie bewegt hat, diese wichtige Aufgabe zu übernehmen? Das Belvedere hat eine einzigartige Atmosphäre, die mich schon seit Kindestagen fasziniert hat. Mein Vater ist oft mit mir ins Belvedere gegangen und hat mich früh für Kunst begeistert. Als Kunsthistorikern schätze ich natürlich die großartige Sammlung mit Klimt, Boeckl und Schiele ebenso wie das Schloss, eines der schönsten Barockschlösser Europas. Direktorin des Belvedere zu sein, bedeutet für mich die Erfüllung eines Traumes. Ich werde aus diesem Haus ein Kompetenzzentrum für österreichische Kunst machen, es mit neuem Leben erfüllen. 10 rozhovory VIENNA CITY Naplním Belvedere novým životom! Od 1. januára 2007 je Agnes Husslein-Arco novou riaditeľkou Rakúskej galérie Belvedere. V rozhovore nám prezradila nové plány v činnosti jednej z najznámejších galérií na svete. Ako sídlo princa Eugena Savojského bol viedenský barokový zámok Belvedere často dejiskom rakúskej histórie. V roku 1955 bola v priestoroch Horného Belvederu podpísaná štátna zmluva, ktorou bola Rakúsku udelená suverenita a neutralita. Dnes zastrešuje táto pamätihodnosť jednu z najväčších umeleckých zbierok na svete. Zbierky Rakúskej galérie Belvedere siahajú od stredoveku až po umenie súčasnosti. Najväčším pokladom sú hlavné diela veľkých rakúskych maliarov z prelomu 19. a 20. storočia Gustava Klimta, Egona Schieleho a Oskara Kokoschku. Od začiatku roka stojí na čele Rakúskej galérie Belvedere kunsthistorička Agnes Husslein- Arco. Svoje vedomosti z oblasti dejín umenia získala počas pôsobenia v slávnych umeleckých domoch Sotheby s a Guggenheim, naposledy bola riaditeľkou Múzea moderny v Salzburgu. Ešte pred oficiálnym nástupom do úradu ohlásila rozsiahlu reorganizáciu, ktorá má galériu zatraktívniť. Veľká pozornosť sa má venovať najmä Dolnému Belvederu, ktorý doteraz trpel nízkou návštevnosťou. To všetko je dostatočným dôvodom na to, aby sme sa novej riaditeľky galérie spýtali na jej plány. V posledných dňoch bolo oznámené premiestnenie častí zbierok v Rakúskej galérii Belvedere. Slávny Znojemský oltár bol už presťahovaný z Dolného do Horného Belvederu. Aké plány sa za tým skrývajú? Premiestnenie slávneho Znojemského oltára je začiatkom veľkého nového rozostavenia zbierok našej galérie. V budúcnosti bude všetko rakúske umenie od stredoveku až po rok 1945 sústredené v Hornom Belvederi. V Dolnom Belvederi sa budú od marca 2007 konať všetky veľké výstavy. Od januára ste riaditeľkou Rakúskej galérie Belvedere. Čo by ste označili za svoje vrcholné priority na tento rok? Najdôležitejšou úlohou je určite celková sanácia Dolného Belvederu. Budova doteraz spala storočným spánkom. Zámok, oranžériu a niekdajšie honosné stajne prestavíme na výstavné priestory vyhovujúce dnešným technickým požiadavkám. Zvýši sa tým aj ich historická hodnota. Prepychové priestory zámku zachované v pôvodnom stave budú v budúcnosti zohrávať dôležitú úlohu. Súčasné umelecké zásahy dodajú barokovým priestorom nový nádych. Vzájomné striedanie nového a starého považujem za veľmi pútavé. V rozhovore pre časopis Wiener Zeitung ste sa sťažovali na nedostatok finančných prostriedkov v Belvederi. Očakávate od novej červenočiernej vlády vyššie dotácie pre galériu? Zvýšenie základnej dotácie pre naše múzeum je nevyhnutné. Verím, že nová ministerka kultúry Claudia Schmied bude robiť v tomto ohľade vyvážené a odvážne rozhodnutia. Belvedere disponuje jednou z najvýznamnejších zbierok na svete. Akú podobu bude mať vaša činnosť vzhľadom na ďalšie zhromažďovanie umeleckých diel? Zbieranie umenia je jednou z hlavných úloh Belvederu. Za bývalého vedenia nedošlo z dôvodu obmedzeného rozpočtu už takmer k žiadnym kúpam. To sa musí zmeniť. Zvýšenie základnej dotácie nám poskytne väčšiu voľnosť. Jednou z mojich úloh je, samozrejme, aj nadväzovanie a udržiavanie vzťahov so sponzormi a mecenášmi. Pritom mi pomôžu kontakty, ktoré som si vybudovala počas môjho pôsobenia o. i. v Sotheby s a Guggenheime. Na aké veľké výstavy sa môžu návštevníci tešiť počas tohto roka? Začiatkom jari prekvapíme výstavou Gartenlust Záhrada v umení. Pôjde o prvú výstavu v novoupravenej oranžérii s dielami od Moneta a Klimta až po Loisa Weinbergera a Dana Grahama. Čo mimoriadne na zámku Belvedere a jeho zbierkach vás presvedčilo prevziať dôležitú úlohu riaditeľky? Belvedere má jedinečnú atmosféru, ktorá ma fascinuje už od detstva. Môj otec ma často brával do Belvederu a prebudil vo mne vášeň pre umenie. Ako kunsthistorička si vážim nádhernú zbierku diel Klimta, Boeckla a Schieleho, ako aj samotný zámok, jeden z najkrajších barokových zámkov v Európe. Byť riaditeľkou Belvederu pre mňa znamená splnenie sna. Z múzea chcem urobiť centrum rakúskeho umenia, naplniť ho novým životom. Chcem Viedenčanov nadchnúť rovnako ako turistov. Ďakujeme za rozhovor. 11 interviews VIENNA CITY I SHALL FULFIL BELVEDERE WITH THE NEW LIFE! Since 1 January, new directress of the Austrian Belvedere Gallery is Ms Agnes Husslein- Arco. During interview she revealed to us the new plans for one of the best known galleries in the world The Viennese Baroque castle Belvedere as a seat of the prince Eugene of Savoy was often scene of the Austrian history. In premises of the Upper Belvedere was signed a state contract in 1955 by which Austria was awarded sovereignty and neutrality. Today this historical monument houses one of the largest collections of art in the world. Collections of the Austrian gallery Belvedere dates back to the Middle Ages and stretches up to the present day art. Greatest jewels in the gallery are main works by the great Austrian painters from the turn of the centuries Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. Since beginning of this year the vanguard post in the Belvedere gallery holds historian of arts Ms Agnes Husslein-Arco. Her knowledge in the field of art history she gained during her stays in the famous galleries as Sotheby s and Guggenheim and as director of Museum of Modernism in Salzburg. Short before she officially took up this post she announced extensive reorganisation, which should make the gallery more attractive. Great attention shall be given especially to the Lower Belvedere, which until now suffered a low attendance. All this provided sufficient motive to ask the new gallery directress about her plans. During the recent days a relocation of some parts of collections has been announced in the Austrian Belvedere. The famous altar of Znaim has already been moved from the Lower Belvedere to the Upper Belvedere. What are the plans that are hidden behind? Relocation of the famous altar of Znaim in Belvedere marks beginning of the huge new rearrangement of the gallery s collections. All the Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the year 1945 shall be in the future concentrated in the Upper Belvedere. Since March 2007 shall be all the major exhibitions taking place in the Lower Belvedere. You are since January directress of the Austrian gallery Belvedere. What would you indicate as your top priorities for this year? The most important task is certainly the overall reconstruction of the Lower Belvedere. Up to now the building slept in a hundred years sleep. We shall transform the castle, orangery and the former pompous stables to exhibition premises suiting to today s technical requirements. This would at the same time increase their historical value. Luxurious premises of the castle shall be preserved in their original shape and in the future they shall be playing an important role. The present art collections shall boost the baroque premises with a new touch. In my opinion the mutual alternation of the new and the old is really fascinating. In your interview for the Wiener Zeitung you complained that there is not enough financial means in the Belvedere. Do you expect higher subventions from the new red-black government for your gallery? Increasing the basic subvention for our museum is inevitable. I believe that the new Minister of Culture, Claudia Schmied, shall make some balanced and brave decisions in this respect. Belvedere has available one of the most important collection in the world. What form would have your activities as far as further collection of works of art is concerned? Collecting arts is one of the main tasks of the Belvedere. There were almost no purchases executed under the previous leadership because of a restricted budget. This must be changed. Increase of the basic subvention shall provide a larger freedom for us. One of my tasks is of course also initiating and maintaining of contacts with sponsors and patrons. In so doing, would help apart from the other also the contacts that I established during my work in the Sotheby s and Guggenheim. To what great exhibitions can be the visitors looking forward to during this year? With starting spring we shall surprise with the Gartenlust exhibition. Garden in the art shall be the first exhibition in the newly arranged orangery with works by authors ranging from Monet and Klimt to Lois Weinberger and Dan Graham What was the extraordinary thing in the Belvedere castle and its collections that convinced you to accept this important role? Belvedere has its unique atmosphere that fascinates me since my childhood. My father often took me to the Belvedere and so he aroused the passion for art in me. As historian of art I admire and prize the amazing collection of works by Klimt, Boeckl and Schiele as well as the castle itself; it is one of the most beautiful baroque castles in Europe. To work as directress of the Belvedere means fulfilment of my dream. I shall make centre of the Austrian art out of it and I shall fulfil it with the new life. 12 Architektúra Všetci si želáme mať hlavné mesto na úrovni. Bratislava v posledných rokoch skutočne skrásnela, jej historické centrum, ktoré sa doslova vojde do dlane, uznanlivo obdivujú mnohí návštevníci. Avšak bratislavské centrum je širšie či vlastne mohlo by byť. Našiel sa investor, ktorý plánuje vynaložiť veľké peniaze, aby sa centrum hlavného mesta obrazne povedané nekončilo pri Manderláku, ale harmonicky a s ľudským rozmerom pokračovalo aj smerom k Špitálskej ulici. O zámeroch sa vedú rôzne diskusie, bokom nechceme zostať ani my. Pozrime sa na situáciu bez emócií, očami troch bratislavských osobností. Wir alle wünschen uns, dass die Hauptstadt Niveau hat. In den letzten Jahren ist Bratislava ohne Zweifel schöner geworden. Das historische Zentrum, das im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes auf eine Handfläche passt, haben schon viele Besucher bewundert. Eigentlich ist das Stadtzentrum grösser zumindest könnte es so sein bildlich gesprochen es würde nicht beim Manderlak enden, sondern weitergehen und sich bis zur Špitálska Strasse ziehen. Über die Begrenzungen werden unzählige Diskussionen geführt, da wollen wir nicht aussen vor bleiben. Schauen wir uns die Situation einmal ohne Emotionen aus der Sicht dreier bedeutender Bratislavaer Persönlichkeiten an. ALL OF US WISH TO HAVE A CAPITAL CITY AT A GOD STANDARD. DURING THE LAST YEARS BRATISLAVA RE- ALLY BECAME BEAUTIFUL, ITS HISTORICAL CENTRE, WHICH FITS WITH ITS SIZE LITERALLY TO THE PALM, APPRECIA- TIVELY ADMIRE MANY OF ITS VISITORS. NEVERTHELESS, THE BRATISLAVA CENTRE IS WIDER OR BETTER TO SAY, IT COULD BE. AN INVESTOR WAS FOUND WHO PLANS TO SPEND LOTS OF MONEY IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THAT THE CAPITAL CITY CENTRE WOULD NOT FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING END AT THE POINT OF MANDERLÁK, BUT TO CONTINUE HARMONI - CALLY AND WITH THE HU - MAN DIMENSION TOWARDS THE ŠPIT ÁLSKA STREET. THERE ARE MANY ONGO - ING DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SUCH INTENTIONS AND WE WOULDN T T LIKE TO STAY ASIDE EITHER. LET S LOOK AT THE SITUATION WITHOUT EMOTIONS, THROUGH THE EYES OF THREE BRATISLAVA PERSONALITIES Sylvia Porubänová sociologička Ohlásená možnosť masívnej rekonštrukcie, či skôr fundamentálnej prestavby Kamenného námestia, zrejme (ako to už býva) vyvolá protichodné reakcie. Predpokladám však (a pokúsim sa vysvetliť prečo), že v tomto prípade bude na strane zachovania súčasného stavu a situácie len tá časť bratislavskej verejnosti, ktorá sa už akosi zo zásady, či zo zvyku hlási ku status quo, prípadne tí obyvatelia priľahlých ulíc, ktorí sa dočasne a (oprávnene) obávajú hlučnosti, prašnosti, stavebného chaosu... nevyhnutne súvisiacimi s podobnými zámermi. Predovšetkým treba zdôrazniť, že ide o priestor nesmierne lukratívny, tak povediac srdce mesta ambícia investorov realizovať práve na tomto mieste grandiózny zámer je teda pochopiteľná i prestížna. Zároveň treba dodať, že v dnešnej podobe a z hľadiska vnímateľa spomínané Kamenné námestie, bohužiaľ, nie je žiadnym down town, ba dokonca ani žiadnym námestím... Už viac ako tridsať rokov pôsobí dojmom večnej nedokončenosti, akejsi vyhryznutosti na spôsob mnohých slovenských okresných a iných, narýchlo a nasilu modernizovaných mestských centier. Rokmi k lokálnemu, studenému a nereprezentatívnemu koloritu pribudla i viditeľná spustnutosť a úpadok, sprevádzaná natrvalo usadenou prostitúciou, gamblerstvom, vekslovaním, vreckovými zlodejmi a nepochybne (i neskrývane) aj zločinom ťažšieho kalibru. Minimálne posledne spomínaný dôvod je dostačujúcou výzvou na radikálnu zmenu, hodnú ašpirácie Bratislavy byť vyhľadávanou a pre život príjemnou európskou metropolou. A napokon: je asi osožné poobzerať sa po porovnateľných svetových mestách, inšpirovať sa odvahou a razanciou, s akou celkom nové ustupuje ešte novšiemu, celkom dobré je nemilosrdne vytlačené lepším. Podmienkou je kooexistencia vôle, idey, projektu finančného krytia a verejného súhlasu. Zdá sa, že v prípade Kamenného námestia sa tak stalo. Sylvia Porubänová, Soziologin: Man muss besonders hervorheben, dass es sich um einen ausnehmend lukrativen Platz handelt, es ist sozusagen das Herz der Stadt die Ambitionen der Investoren, gerade an dieser Stelle ein grandioses Vorhaben zu realisieren, sind verständlich und prestigeträchtig. Gleichzeitig muss man zugeben, dass in der heutigen Zeit und aus Sicht des Beobachters der erwähnte Kamenné Platz eben kein down town ist, eigentlich nicht mal ein richtiger Platz... Schon seit mehr als dreissig Jahren wird dort der Eindruck des ständig Unfertigen vermittelt, ausgefranst, so wie viele andere slowakische Stadtzentren auch, die hopplahopp und auf Biegen Kamenné námestie dostáva šancu a Bratislavčania s ním 10

Mit den Jahren entstand zu dem lokalen, kalten und nicht repräsentativem Kolorit eine sichtliche Verlassenheit und ein offener Verfall, begleitet von Taschendieben und ganz sicher auch Straftaten. Schon die zuletzt genannte Tatsache ist eine hinreichende Herausforderung für eine rasante Veränderung, einen ehrgeizigen Plan, um Bratislava zu einer gefragten Stadt zu machen und um ein angenehmes Leben in einer europäischen Metropole zu führen. Und schließlich: Es ist zuträglich, sich in vergleichbaren Städten der Welt umzuschauen, sich von deren Mut und Rasanz inspirieren zu lassen, mit der das ganz Neue dem noch Neueren weicht und das ganz Gute unbarmherzig vom Besseren verdrängt wird. Sylvia Porubänová, sociologist: First of all we must stress that here we are talking about a really lucrative area, so to say in the heart of the city so the investors ambition to realize their grandiose intention exactly at this place is understandable and prestigious. At the same time we must add, that Kamenné Square in its present appearance and from the viewers point of view, do not look any down town and even any square More than thirty years it makes impression of something ever unfinished, something gnawed out as do so many Slovak regional and other, hastily and forcedly modernised centres of towns. Moreover, throughout the years a visible desolation was added to this local, cold and non-representative atmosphere as well as deterioration accompanied by pickpockets and without doubt also by crime. Even the last mentioned reason would be a sufficient challenge, worth a radical change, worth aspiration that Bratislava would become a sought after destination, a European metropolis offering a pleasant life. And finally: possibly it would help to look around the comparable cities around the world and take from them some inspiration, courage and force with which the quite new is making way to something even newer and the quite good is without mercy superseded by something even better. Štefan Šlachta hlavný architekt Bratislavy Okolo prestavby Kamenného námestia je veľa histérie, ktorú vyvoláva autor stavieb Tesca a Kyjeva. Dnes v spomínaných priestoroch stavajú ďalšie nové objekty, nesúvisiace s týmto projektom. Mrzí ma, že sa neprotestuje proti nim. Zo strany Dunajskej ulice vyrastá objekt, ktorý je nalepený na stenu obchodného domu a to je súčasná realita. Ako problém tohto priestoru vidím predovšetkým zlikvidovanú Špitálsku ulicu, ktorú treba obnoviť ako mestský bulvár, doriešiť zástavbu Dunajskej ulice, ktorá dnes vyzerá ako deravý chrup, a premeniť Kamenné námestie z dnešného parkoviska a škaredého trhoviska na skutočné námestie, ktoré bude náležite fungovať ako centrum mesta, kam človek príde rád, a nie naopak, že sa mu radšej vyhýba. Podobných príkladov prestavieb a premien je vo svete veľmi veľa. Je potrebné, aby sem prišla nová priestorová i funkčná kvalita, ktorá bude oveľa vyššia, ako je dnešná. Súčasný stav Kamenného námestia je z pohľadu mesta nevyhovujúci a prežitý. Štefan Šlachta, Stadtarchitekt von Bratislava: Wegen des Umbaus des Kamenné Platzes herrscht große Hysterie, ausgelöst vom Autor der Bauten Tesco und Kyjev. Derzeit entstehen in dem erwähnten Bereich weitere Gebäude, die mit diesem Projekt gar nichts zu tun haben. Schade, dass nicht dagegen protestiert wird. In der Dunajska Straße wächst ein Gebäude, das an der einen Seite des Tescos förmlich klebt das ist die derzeitige Realität. Als Problem in diesem Bereich sehe ich vor allen Dingen die Veränderung der Špitalska Straße, die man als einen Boulevard gestalten muss, den Bau in der Dunajska Straße, der wie ein löchriges Gebiss aussieht, den Wechsel des Kamenné Platzes vom heutigen Parkplatz und hässlichen Marktplatz zu einem richtigen Platz, der angemessen als Stadtzentrum funktioniert, wohin man gerne geht und nicht sofort wieder verschwinden möchte. Ähnliche Beispiele von Umbauten und Veränderungen gibt es viele in der Welt. Wir brauchen eine neue räumliche und funktionelle Qualität, die um vieles höher ist, als die derzeitige. Der jetztige Zustand des Kamenné Platzes ist aus Sicht der Stadt nicht angemessen und überholt. Štefan Šlachta, Bratislava City Architect: There is a lot of hysteria around reconstruction of Kamenné Square, initiated by author of the Tesco and hotel Kiev buildings. There are new objects being built in the before mentioned premises that do not relate to this project. I feel sorry that no one protests against this. There is an object growing here from the side of Dunajská Street, which is attached to the department store s wall this is the present day reality. As a problem concerning this space I see primarily the liquidated Špitálska Street, which really needs to be renewed as the city s boulevard and to resolve development of Dunajská Street that presently looks like a holey teeth and to change the Kamenné Square from the present parking area and ugly market place to the real square that would be functioning properly and serving as a city centre and which would people like to visit and wouldn t rather avoid it as usually. A similar reconstructions and changes are countless in the world. We need a new spatial and functional quality here, which will be much higher as is this present one. From the city s point of view the present situation of Kamenné Square is inconvenient and outdated. Der Kamenné Platz bekommt eine Chance und Bratislava mit ihm 11

14 Architektúra BRATISLAVA CITY Ľuboš Jurík spisovateľ Nechcem hodnotiť architektonickú, ani urbanistickú hodnotu Kamenného námestia, chcem len jednoducho konštatovať, že tento priestor je nedôstojný pre centrum hlavného mesta Slovenska. Priamo v strede mesta sa denne stretáva asociálne spoločenstvo až s kriminálnym pozadím, sú tam neupravené stánky, provizórne parkoviská, budovy pospájané bez koncepcie a myšlienky. Toto námestie nevyžaruje pozitívnu energiu, je to miesto, kam ľudia neradi chodia. Napriek tejto smutnej realite sa dalo očakávať, že zámer vystavať nové moderné a ľuďom určené centrum vyvolá negatívne emócie. Je to spôsobené tým, že ľudia sú citliví na zmeny, že sú v podstate konzervatívni, že sa vždy nájdu záujmové skupiny, ktoré sa pridržiavajú starej hierarchie hodnôt. Kamenné námestie je pupkom Bratislavy, nadväzuje na staré a historické jadro. Obavy zo zmien vyplývajú aj z toho, že v Bratislave sa postavilo priveľa nových budov bez architektonickej hodnoty, sklenené škatule, ktoré mestu na kráse nepridali. Ľudia sa boja, že tak bude vyzerať aj Kamenné námestie. Nebude. Pracovné projekty námestia sú veľkolepé, vytvorili ich špičkoví anglickí architekti. Aj keď projekt sa môže meniť, prispieť môžu aj poprední slovenskí architekti (povedzme formou verejnej súťaže), už dnes musí byť objektívnemu pozorovateľovi jasné, že Bratislava si nemôže dovoliť hazard tým, že zmenu námestia odmietne a zachová status quo. Taký investor (a investícia vo výške cca 7,2 miliárd) len tak do Bratislavy neprídu. Predstavte si priestor ohraničený ulicami Rajská, Dunajská, Námestie SNP a Špitálska, ktorý bude pokračovaním pešej zóny, ktorý bude lemovaný novým obchodným domom Tesco (Dunajská), polyfunkčnou budovou s nadštandardnými priestormi, kaviarňami, reštauráciami, kinom, koncertnou sálou (Špitálska) a hotelom (Rajská). Vo vnútri vznikne veľké átrium prekryté elegantnou sklenenou pologuľou, bude tam miesto na stretávanie, nákupy, dobré jedlo. Architekti na fasády navrhujú použiť prírodné materiály, átrium doplniť zeleňou, fontánou, lavičkami. Pod celým objektom budú štvorpodlažné garáže, dokonca tunely pre prípadnú podzemnú dráhu. Je tu veľká príležitosť zásadne zmeniť podobu centra Bratislavy a dať mu vskutku podobu metropoly. Nebojme sa jej! Ľuboš Jurík, Schriftsteller: Ich will gar nicht den architektonischen oder auch urbanen Wert des Kamenné Platzes bewerten, ich will einfach nur konstatieren, das dieser Raum für das Zentrum der Hauptstadt der Slowakei unwürdig ist. Trotz dieser traurigen Realität, war es zu erwarten, dass das Bauvorhaben eines neuen modernen auf die Menschen ausgerichteten Zentrums negative Emotionen hervorrufen wird. Das hängt damit zusammen, dass die Menschen empfindlich auf Veränderungen reagieren, da sie im Grunde konservativ sind und das sich immer Leute finden, die noch an der alten Wertehierarchie hängen. Die Ängste vor Veränderungen rühren auch daher, dass in Bratislava bereits zu viele neue Gebäude ohne architektonischen Wert gebaut worden sind, Glasschachteln, die keinen Beitrag zur Verschönerung der Stadt leisten. Die Leute befürchten, dass der Kamenné Platz genauso aussehen wird. Das wird er aber nicht, die Arbeitsprojekte für den Platz sind großartig. Schon heute muss dem objektiven Beobachter klar sein, dass sich Bratislava kein Risiko erlauben kann, indem es die Neugestaltung des Platzes ablehnt und somit den Status quo aufrecht erhält. Es ist eine gute Gelegenheit, dass Zentrum Bratislavas zu verändern und ihm das Aussehen einer Metropole zu verleihen. Nur Mut! Ľuboš Jurík, writer: I wouldn t dare to judge the architectonic and urban value of the Kamenné Square, I would only simply observe that this space is undignified, unworthy if centre of the Slovak Capital City is concerned. Nevertheless, we could have expected in spite of this sad reality that intention to build a new modern centre that is meant for the people would raise negative emotions. This is caused by the fact that people are sensitive to changes and in their essence they are conservative and there always will be some interest groups that strictly adhere to the old hierarchy of values. Fear of changes arise also from the fact that too many new buildings have been built in Bratislava that have no architectonical value, there are glass boxes which wouldn t represent any contribution to city s beauty. So are the people afraid that the Kamenné Square would look similar. It wouldn t, the working projects for the square are really spectacular. To any impartial observer it must be clear today that Bratislava cannot afford such a hazard as to preserve the status quo and to refuse change of the square. There is a great opportunity to substantially change image of Bratislava centre and to give it finally appearance of metropolis. Let s not be afraid of this! 15 architecture VIENNA CITY 2007 ist das Jahr der grossen Bauprojekte in Wien Rok 2007 je vo Viedni rokom veľkých stavebných projektov 2007 In Vienna shall be a Year of Large Construction Projects Wo Wien den Himmel berührt Kde sa Viedeň dotýka neba Where Vienna Touches the Sky Heuer beginnt man mit dem Bau der höchsten Türme Österreichs. Dazu werden wichtige Wiener Bahnhöfe renoviert. Im letzten Jahrzehnt haben zahlreiche neue Wolkenkratzer das Stadtbild Wiens nachhaltig verändert. Besonders haben moderne Büro- und Wohntürme in der Donau-City moderne Architektur-trends in der österreichischen Metropole gesetzt. Nun wird ein neues Projekt mit gewaltigen Ausmaßen für noch mehr New York-Feeling in der Donau-City sorgen. Die zwei DC Towers auf der Donauplatte vor der UNO-City sollen mit 220 Metern die höchsten Gebäude Österreichs werden. Die Flächen in den Türmen werden bzw Quadratmeter betragen und werden für ein Hotel sowie zahlreiche Büros und Wohnungen genutzt werden. Die Firma BAR bareal Immobilientreuhand GmbH aus Wien wird die beiden Hochhäuser vermarkten. Sie kündigte den Baustart für Mitte oder Ende dieses Jahres an. Ein Grund zur Freude ist die bereits sehr große Nachfrage nach den Bauten, die der Stararchitekt Dominique Perrault entworfen hat. Die neuen Türme sollen bis 2010 fertig werden. Mit einem eindrucksvollen Design in Form von absteigenden Stufen werden die zwei Riesen zweifelsfrei neue Maßstäbe in Österreichs Architektur setzen. V tomto roku sa začne výstavba najvyšších veží v Rakúsku a renovácia dôležitých viedenských staníc. V poslednom desaťročí zmenili nové mrakodrapy celkový obraz Viedne. Nové architektonické trendy v rakúskej metropole určili predovšetkým moderné kancelárske a obytné budovy. Viac newyorskej atmosféry má do modernej zóny Donaucity vniesť nový projekt obrovských rozmerov. Dve veže Donau City Towers v blízkosti viedenského medzinárodného centra OSN známym ako UNO-City sa majú s výškou 220 metrov stať najvyššími budovami v Rakúsku. V budovách s rozlohou 86-tisíc a 56-tisíc štvorcových metrov sa budú nachádzať byty, hotel a kancelárske priestory. Komercializáciu celého projektu zabezpečuje viedenská spoločnosť BAR bareal Immobilientreuhand GmbH. Začiatok výstavby ohlásila na polovicu, resp. koniec tohto roka. Dôvodom na radosť je už teraz veľmi vysoký dopyt po priestoroch v nových budovách, ktoré navrhol francúzsky architekt Dominique Perrault. Projekt by mal byť dokončený do roku S pôsobivým výzorom v tvare schodov určia tieto mrakodrapy bezpochyby nové meradlá v rakúskej architektúre. This year should start construction of the highest towers in Austria and renovation of important Viennese stations. During the past decade the new skyscrapers changed the overall image of Vienna forever. New architectonic trends have been in the Austrian metropolis determined primarily by the modern office and residential buildings. And even more of the New York atmosphere should bring to the modern Donaucity zone a new project of enormous dimensions. The two Donau City Towers with their height of 220 metres in the neighbourhood of the Viennese international UNO Centre known as the UNO-City should become the highest buildings in Austria. Buildings with area of and m 2 are planned for a hotel, office premises and apartments. Commercialization of the whole project secures the Viennese company BAR bareal Immobilientreuhand GmbH. Beginning of the construction is announced for the mid of this year or possibly end of this year. And ground for delight provides the fact that demand for premises in these buildings designed by the French architect Dominique Perrault is high even now. 16 Architektúra VIENNA CITY Stadt Wien, MA 21A Neuer Bahnhof für die City Für 2007 haben auch die ÖBB angekündigt, den schon seit langem fälligen Neubau des Bahnhofs Wien Mitte in Angriff zu nehmen. Die Baugenehmigung wird laut ÖBB für März erwartet. Danach soll das alte Gebäude, das inzwischen zu einem Schandfleck im Stadtzentrum geworden ist, abgerissen werden. An Stelle des alten Bahnhofs kommt ein Kerngebäude mit drei Ebenen, in das Geschäfte, Restaurants und Büros einziehen werden. Neben dem Kerngebäude entsteht ein 70 Meter hohes Hotel. Laut Bürgermeister Michael Häupl wird die Bahnhofsüberbauung rasch vorangehen, die Kosten belaufen sich auf 350 Mio. Euro. Die Österreichischen Bundesbahnen haben damit ein Jahrzehnt der Bahnhöfe eröffnet. Neben dem Projekt am Bahnhof Wien Mitte wird derzeit der denkmalgeschützte Wiener Bahnhof Heiligenstadt, ein Werk des berühmten Otto Wagner, renoviert. Bis 2008 werden rund 6 Millionen Euro in dieses Projekt fließen. Diese Renovierungsarbeiten sind nur eine der Vorbereitungen für das Mega-Projekt des Wiener Zentralbahnhofs, dessen Bau ab 2008 beginnen wird. Viedeň dostane novú železničnú stanicu Na rok 2007 ohlásili Rakúske spolkové železnice (ÖBB) už dlho avizovanú prestavbu železničnej stanice Wien-Mitte (Viedeň-stred). Podľa ÖBB sa stavebné povolenie očakáva v marci. Následne by sa malo začať so zbúraním starej staničnej budovy, ktorá sa medzičasom stala hanbou centra rakúskej metropoly. Na mieste starej stanice vyrastie trojúrovňová hlavná budova s obchodmi, reštauráciami a kanceláriami. Vedľa nej bude stáť 70-metrová výšková budova s hotelom. Podľa primátora Viedne Michaela Häupla sa prestavba stanice zavŕši rýchlo, náklady by mali dosiahnuť 350 miliónov eur. Touto výstavbou otvorili Rakúske spolkové železnice desaťročie železničných staníc. Okrem spomínaného projektu sa má uskutočniť renovácia viedenskej chránenej pamiatky železničnej stanice Heiligenstadt, diela slávneho Otta Wagnera. Do roku 2008 sa bude do tohto projektu investovať okolo 6 miliónov eur. Renovačné práce sú iba jednou z príprav veľkého projektu viedenskej hlavnej stanice, s jej výstavbou sa začne v roku New station for the city The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) announced for 2007 also a log time expected reconstruction of the Wien-Mitte (ienna-centre) railway station. According to the Vienna Mayor Michael Häupl the reconstruction of the station should be completed rapidly and the costs should achieve EUR 350 million. By this construction the Austrian Federal Railways opened The Decade of Railway Stations. Apart from the already mentioned project should take place also renovation of the Viennese protected monument the Heiligenstadt station, the work of the famous Otto Wagner. Till 2008 approximately EUR 6 million shall be invested into this project. The abovementioned renovation works mean only one part of the preparations concerning the large project for Vienna Main Station. This should start in

Tento rok sme sa väčšmi zamerali aj na akcentovanie vstupných priestorov, ktoré nie sú v Redute také dominantné. Návštevníci teda už pri vstupe pocítia, že prichádzajú na pôdu výnimočného večera. Cena Júliusa Satinského Bratislavská čučoriedka, odovzdávaná na bále, sa ocitá v rukách významného rodáka, resp. zaslúžilého obyvateľa našej metropoly. Oceňovaný je aj počin. Cena je významnou a uznávanou súčasťou bálu. Áno, dodáva bálu skutočný punc bratislavskosti a výnimočnosti. Udeľujú ju členovia Čestnej rady ceny Júliusa Satinského Bratislavská čučoriedka, a to v dvoch kategóriách osobnosť a idea. Základným motívom je ohodnotiť ľudskosť, BRATISLAVA CITY zohľadňujú okrem iného aj tradície nášho mesta vo väzbe na Viedeň a Budapešť. Tie budapeštianske nie sú až natoľko rozvinuté, no kontakty s Viedňou sú veľmi čulé a starajú sa o ne významne aj obaja primátori hlavných miest. Svojou prítomnosťou to prezentujú nielen viedenskí predstavitelia, ale aj rakúski priatelia z radov verejnosti, ktorí si na záver sezóny vyberú práve náš bál. Obdobie pôstu máme za sebou, všetky ľudské zmysly sú už v tom správnom napätí, očakávajú vhodný impulz, aby sa oddali plesovým stretnutiam v príjemnej spoločnosti, víru tanca pri dobrej hudbe, a, samozrejme, gurmánskym špecialitám a lahodným nápojom... Bratislavčania a ich priatelia majú už niekoľko rokov možnosť stráviť krásnu spoločenskú noc na Bratislavskom bále. Je dobré, že aj naše hlavné mesto má svoj bál o tom tohtoročnom sme sa v čase vrcholiacich príprav pozhovárali s Vladimírom Grežom, riaditeľom Bratislavského kultúrneho a informačného strediska (BKIS), hlavným organizátorom podujatia. Bál si už našiel miesto v kalendári prestížnych plesových podujatí. Je veľmi obľúbený najmä vďaka srdečnej atmosfére a neškrobenosti. Čomu vďačí za takýto chýr? Myslím si, že aj na plesajúcich sa prenáša úprimné snaženie a vôľa organizátorov, sponzorov a všetkých zainteresovaných na príprave, vložené do jednej bálovej noci. Na tento bál prídu ľudia so vzťahom k Bratislave, k sebe navzájom, a hoci vládne primeraná noblesa, je prirodzená a srdečná. V spojení s dobrým programom a krásnym priestorom sa stáva doslova zárukou vydareného podujatia. K tomu prispieva aj to, že bál je otvorený pre verejnosť. BKIS organizuje Bratislavský bál po tretí rok. V čom ste nadviazali na predchádzajúce bály, čím novým prekvapíte? Organizácia bálu je pre nás zakaždým výzvou, každý rok začíname tak trochu od začiatku, so snahou postaviť každú časť bálu tak, aby na konci bol dobrý bál. Myslím si, že výsledok zaručí predovšetkým kolektív organizátorov, ktorí majú skúsenosti, ale vedia priniesť aj nové pohľady, zaujímavé trendy. Tento rok sme oslovili režiséra Petra Nuneza. Verím, že jeho poňatie prinesie ďalší rozmer bálovej noci. Želáme si, aby si podujatie zachovalo obľúbenú tvár, no zároveň aby bolo každým rokom niečím výnimočné a príjemne prekvapilo. Pozvaných je veľa vzácnych hostí, počnúc prezidentským párom, poslancov parlamentu, predstaviteľov samosprávy hlavného mesta, primátorov spriatelených miest Prahy a Viedne, s ktorými udržiava Bratislava nadštandardné vzťahy, veríme však, že príde aj veľa známych tvárí z kultúrneho života nášho mesta. Zároveň sú očakávaní partneri, spolupracujúci s mestom počas celého roka a pozvanie na bál je vyjadrením vzájomnej úcty a poďakovania. Na čo ste kládli dôraz pri výzdobe jednotlivých sál? Čím ste sa inšpirovali? Vyzdobiť priestor, akým je Reduta, ktorá má vlastnú atmosféru a štýl, nie je jednoduché. Napriek jej kráse chceme, aby bola pútavejšia a iná ako v čase koncertov, ktoré sa tu konajú po celý rok. Preto k výzdobe pristupujeme veľmi citlivo, výtvarníčka zvolila kvety so zvláštnou farebnosťou a ďalšie prvky, ktoré snahu a výsledky, ktoré priniesli Bratislave a jej obyvateľom niečo užitočné, čo ju urobilo krajšou a bohatšou. Rozhodnutie poroty je prísne utajované, zostáva tajomstvom až do vyhlásenia na bále. Bratislava udržiava veľmi tesné kontakty s Viedňou, čoho dôkazom je aj náš Twin City Journal. Ako sa tieto výborné vzťahy prejavia na Bratislavskom bále? Dôkazom dobrých vzťahov je už dramaturgická príprava dlho pred bálom, v ktorej sa 15 Bratislavský reprezentačný mestský bál sa koná 10. februára 2007 a uzatvára plesovú sezónu v našom meste. Vyše 450 hostí bálu sa zabáva vo všetkých priestoroch Reduty vrátane kasína od 20. hodiny do skorého rána. S úderom polnoci môžu hostia očakávať vrchol bálu polnočné prekvapenie a polnočné noviny. Práve noviny a darček pre každého hosťa sú popri emotívnych zážitkoch hmatateľnou pripomienkou večera. Na bále je tradíciou uvedenie mladých dám a pánov do spoločnosti. Unsere fünf Sinne sind bereits wieder dafür ausgerichtet, uns in angenehmer Atmosphäre und Gesellschaft, bei Tanz und guter Musik, Wein und Feinschmeckereien auf Räumen sind förmlich die Garantie für einen gelungenen Abend. Dazu trägt auch bei, dass der Ball öffentlich ist. Das BKIS organisiert den Ball zum dritten Mal. Woran wollen ist ein Zeichen des gegenseitigen Respekts und Dankbarkeit. Worauf legen Sie den Akzent bei der Dekoration der einzelnen Säle? Was inspiriert Sie? Räumlichkeiten wie die Reduta Der Bratislavaer Stadtball findet am 10. Februar 2007 statt und schließt die Ballsaison ab. Es werden mehr als 450 Gäste erwartet, die sich ab 20 h in allen Räumen der Reduta einschließlich Kasino bis zum frühen Morgen amüsieren können. Schlag Mitternacht erwartet die Gäst der Höhepunkt des Balles eine mitternächtliche Überraschung und die mitternächtliche Zeitung. Bratislavas BürgerInnen und alle, die Bratislava mögen, haben seit einigen Jahren Gelegenheit, einen geselligen Abend auf dem Ball von Bratislava zu erleben. Es ist gut, dass unsere Hauptstadt endlich eine eigene Veranstaltung dieser Art hat. Über den diesjährigen Ball haben wir gerade in der Zeit, in der die Vorbereitungen auf Hochtouren laufen, mit Vladimír Grežo, dem Direktor des BKIS (Bratislavaer Informationszentrum) und Hauptorganisator der Veranstaltung gesprochen. Der Ball hat bereits seinen festen Platz im Veranstaltungskalender gefunden. Er ist besonders wegen seiner herzlichen Atmosphäre und Zwanglosigkeit beliebt. Wie kommt es zu diesem Ruf? Ich glaube, dass sich die ehrlichen Bemühungen und der Wille all derjenigen, die diesen Ball zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis machen möchten auf die Gäste überträgt. Es kommen Leute zu diesem Ball, denen an Bratislava liegt und der trotz einer gewissen Vornehmheit herzlich und natürlich ist. Die Verbindung von gutem Programm und herrlichen 16 Sie anknüpfen und womit wollen Sie überraschen? Der Ball ist jedes Mal wieder eine besondere Herausforderung. Jedes Jahr fangen wir immer wieder ein bisschen von vorn an und fügen dann alles so zusammen, dass am Ende ein gelungenes Fest dabei herauskommt. Ich denke, der Erfolg liegt in der Qualität des Teams begründet, das sehr erfahren ist, aber auch in der Lage sind, stets neue Perspektiven und Trends mit einzubringen. Dieses Jahr ist Peter Nunez der Regisseur und ich bin mir sicher, dass seine Vorstellungen uns wieder einen besondere Art des Balls bieten. Wir möchten, dass der Ball sein Gesicht behält, dabei aber jedes Jahr auch etwas Neues bietet. Es sind viele besondere Gäste eingeladen, darunter das Präsidentenpaar, Abgeordnete des Parlaments, VertreterInnen der Stadtverwaltung, die Bürgermeister der befreundeten Städte Prag und Wien, zu denen Bratislava besonders gute Beziehungen unterhält. Ich denke auch, dass viele bekannte Gesichter aus dem Bereich der Kultur unserer Stadt dabei sein werden. Die Einladung zum Ball zu dekorieren, die einen eigenen Stil und eine eigene Atmosphäre haben, ist nicht einfach. Trotz dieser charakteristischen Schönheit wünschen wir uns für diese Veranstaltung etwas Besonderes, dass sich vom normalen Konzertbetrieb abhebt, der dort das ganze Jahr über läuft. Deshalb behandeln wir diesen Bereich auch sehr vorsichtig. Unsere Dekorateurin hat Blumen mit einer ungewöhnlichen Farbgebung ausgewählt, dazu weitere Elemente. Die Stimmung wird durch eine effektive Beleuchtung positiv beeinflusst. Dieses Jahr wollen wir besonders die Eingangsräume hervorheben, die in der Reduta sonst nicht so dominant sind. So fühlen die Gäste gleich, dass sie ein außergewöhnlicher Abend erwartet. Auf dem Ball wird der Július Satinský Bratislavska čučoriedka Preis übergeben, mit dem ein sich um Bratislava verdient gemachter Bürger gewürdigt wird. Die Preisvergabe ist fester Bestandteil des Balles. Ja, das verleiht dem Ball den richtigen Bratislavatouch. Der Preis wird von einer Ehrenjury in zwei Kategorien vergeben Persönlichkeit und Idee. Grundgedanke ist, Menschlichkeit, Bemühen und Beitrag hinsichtlich des Nutzens für die BürgerInnen von Bratislava, wie z.b. die Verschönerung der Stadt, zu bewerten. Die Entscheidung der Jury ist streng geheim und wird erst auf dem Ball verkündet. Bratislava unterhält feste Beziehungen zu Wien, das zeigt auch das Twin City Journal. Wodurch zeigt sich das auf dem Ball? Das zeigen die dramaturgischen Vorbereitungen lange vor der Veranstaltung, bei denen auch u.a. die Traditionen in der Verbindung zu den Städten Wien und Budapest betont werden. Die Budapester Beziehungen sind nicht ganz so ausgeprägt, aber die Kontakte zu Wien sind sehr lebendig und darum kümmern sich auch die Bürgermeister besonders. Das zeigen auch durch ihre geschätzte Anwesenheit die Repräsentanten aus Wien und österreichische Freunde aus den Reihen der Öffentlichkeit, die sich zum Saisonende gerade unseren Ball aussuchen. Where did you take up with the previous balls and what shall be a new surprise? Each time, preparation of ball represents a challenge for us, every year we are starting so to say from the beginning trying to compose every part of the ball so that it would provide a good ball in the end. I think that good results can guarantee primarily a team of organisers who have It s not easy to decorate a space like Reduta that have its own atmosphere and a style. In spite of its beauty we want that it become even more interesting and looks different than during the concerts that are taking place here during the whole year. Therefore we approach the decoration really sensibly, the artist selected flowers with special colours and other elements that shall change atmosphere of the environment and the final The representative Bratislava municipal ball is taking place on 10 February 2007 and concludes the ball season in our city. It s a great thing that also our Capital City has its ball about the one, which is in the middle of culminating preparations we have been talking to Vladimír Grežo, director of the Bratislava Cultural and Information Centre (BKIS) and main organiser of this event. The ball has already found its place in the prestigious ball evens calendar. It is very popular thanks mainly to the cordial atmosphere and lack of starchiness. What is the reason for that image? I think that the honest effort and good will of organisers, sponsors and all who participated in the preparations inputted into this only night of ball is being transferred also to visitors. This ball is being visited by people who have a real relation to Bratislava, to one another and though appropriate gentility dominates here, it is natural and cordial. In connection with a good program and beautiful premises it literally becomes a guarantee of successful event. To all this contributes also the fact that the ball is an event opened for public. enough experience but can bring also some new opinions and interesting trends. This year we have asked director Peter Nunez for a hand with the ball. I am sure that his understanding of the event shall give another dimension to the ball might. We wish that this event would keep its popular face but at the same time we wish that every year there would be something special what would bring a pleasant surprise to us. There are many guests, starting with the president pair, members of Parliament, representatives of Capital City self-government, mayors of the befriended cities of Prague and Vienna with whom Bratislava maintains above the standard relations that we have invited, but we believe that also many of well-known faces representing cultural life of our city will be there. At the same time we expect partners who cooperate with the city throughout the whole year and invitation to the ball shall be expression of a mutual respect and acknowledgement. What did you wanted to stress when decorating the individual halls? What was your inspiration? touch would provide the special effects lights. Members of the Július Satinský Honorary Board award the Bratislavská čučoriedka Award in two categories Personality and the Idea. The basic motif is to appraise humanity, effort and results that brought to Bratislava and to its inhabitants something useful and which made it more beautiful and richer. Decision of the jury is strictly confidential and remains secret till the moment of its announcement at the ball. 17 bratislava maintains very close contacts with Vienna, what proves also our Twin City Journal. How shall those excellent contacts be reflected in the Bratislava ball? Prove of the good relations are also the dramaturgic preparations long before the ball starts in which apart from the other are taken into consideration also traditions of our city in connection to Vienna and Budapest. Those with Budapest are not so well developed but contacts with Vienna are very lively and taking care of them are also the both mayors of capital cities. Proving this by their presence here are not only the Vienna representatives but also our Austrian friends from among the public who have chosen our ball in order to conclude the season. 20 plesová sezóna Známa bratislavská novinárka Barbora Laucká spolu s fotografom Petrom Leginským pripravila výpravnú publikáciu mapujúcu plesový život v Bratislave, no aj vo Viedni, Prahe... Prečo práve táto téma? Príjemné čítanie o pretancovaných nociach Richard Lugner Barbora Laucká Začiatkom 90. rokov sa v denníku Práca, kde som pracovala, výrazne otvorili možnosti publikovať spoločenskú rubriku inak, ako sme na to boli dovtedy zvyknutí. Práve v tom čase do spoločenského života vstúpili plesy a bály, ktoré sa veľmi chceli podobať tým tradičným v európskych veľkomestách. Peter Leginský má nafotené množstvo veľmi vzácneho materiálu, ja som mala veľa pôvodných reportáží, drobných pikošiek, rozhovorov, vlastných zatiaľ neuverejnených poznámok a zážitkov a spontánne padlo rozhodnutie dať dohromady knižku. Za vyše sedemnásť rokov sa nám nazbieralo také množstvo faktografického materiálu, že bolo problémom vybrať to najzaujímavejšie. 18 Samozrejme, nájdu sa tam páni, ktorí na prvý ples zavítali v bielych ponožkách, dámy v minisukniach či kostýmčekoch, ale netrvalo dlho a aj naši plesajúci sa začínajú správať podľa plesového protokolu. Knižku by som charakterizovala ako voľné rozprávanie, samozrejme, nájde sa v nej veľa faktov, no nemá charakter serióznej histórie. Naopak, želám si, aby to bolo dielko na príjemné čítanie a pozeranie a nieslo posolstvo, že kultúrne a kultivované prostredie ľudí formuje a dotvára. Aké miesto má v knižke Bratislavský bál? Bratislavský bál sa z môjho pohľadu časom vypracoval na veľmi príjemné, srdečné podujatie, navštevuje ho množstvo vzácnych osobností nášho mesta, sympatické je, že náš primátor Andrej Ďurkovský pozýva predstaviteľov susedských metropol. Konečne sa s Plesom v Opere zladil aj termínovo a navzájom si časovo nekolidujú. Oživením je uvedenie mladých do spoločnosti, inšpirované viedenským Plesom v Štátnej opere. Očakávané býva aj udeľovanie Satinského čučoriedky. Kedy si knižku, ktorú ste nazvali Noci v lakovkách, budeme môcť kúpiť? Tu si povzdychnem. Napriek tomu, že seriózne a bez náznaku hrubého bulváru zachytávame pohyb slovenskej bohatej smotánky, našich úspešných ľudí na týchto spoločenských podujatiach, zatiaľ si toto zaujímavé dielo nenašlo cestu do tlače. Ďakujeme bratislavskému magistrátu za dôveru a finančnú podporu, no inak už doslova dva roky (tak dlho je už dielo pripravené) hľadáme vydavateľa. Verím, že teraz, keď sa projektu ujala úspešná podnikateľka a zanietená Bratislavčanka Elvíra Chadimová, sa nám to konečne podarí, a potešíme našu čitateľskú verejnosť. Viem si predstaviť, že knižka by vyšla aj v nemčine, ponúkla by totiž rakúskym čitateľom pohľad na ich spoločenský život očami novinárov od susedov. Zaiste by to bol aj ďalší krok k vzájomnému poznaniu života a ľudí Bratislavy a Viedne.

21 ball season BRATISLAVA CITY Die bekannte Bratislavaer Journalistin Barbora Laucká hat zusammen mit dem Fotografen Peter Leginský eine Pubklikation vorbereitet, die einen Überblick über die in Bratislava, Wien und Prag stattfindenen Bälle gibt. Warum gerade so ein Thema? Niki Lauda Art kollidiert. Inspiriert vom Wiener Operball, werden auch hier die jungen Damen und Herren in die Gesellschaft eingeführt. Ebenso dazu gehört die Vergabe des Július Satinský Bratislavská čučoriedka Preises. Wann können wir das Buch, das Sie Nächte in Lackschuhen betitelt haben, kaufen? Da muss ich erstmal aufstöhnen. Obwohl es seriös und frei von grobem Boulevard ist, dafür das Leben der slowakischen Oberschicht bei derartigen gesellschaftlichen Veranstaltungen erfasst, hat dieses Werk den Weg noch nicht in die Druckerei gefunden. Exactly in this time the balls and masquerade balls, which wanted to look like the traditional ones in European large cities, returned to the social life. As the time goes, the Bratislava ball developed into a very pleasant, cordial event in my opinion, which is visited by many precious personalities from our city and is very nice of our Mayor that he also invites representatives from the neighbouring cities. And finally it is harmonises with the Opera Ball and the dates do not collide. Fresh air was brought also by introducing the young to the society inspired by the Viennese Staadtsoper Ball. Another awaited event is usually awarding of the Satinského Bratislavská čučoriedka prize. When we can buy the book that you entitled Nights In A Dancing Pumps? Here I can only utter a sigh. In Pleasant Reading About Nights Spent By Dancing Anfang der 90er Jahre gab es in der Tageszeitung Práca, für die ich gearbeitet habe, eine neue Möglichkeit und Form, in einer gesellschaftlichen Rubrik zu publizieren, als man es bis dahin gewohnt war. Gerade in jener Zeit tauchten im gesellschaftlichen Leben die Bälle auf, die an die traditionellen Bälle in den europäischen Großstädten anknüpfen wollten. Peter Leginský besitzt reiches Bildmaterial, ich habe viele Reportagen, kleine pikante Plaudereien, bislang noch nicht veröffentlichte Bemerkungen und Geschichten dazu. So entstand spontan die Idee, alles zusammen in einem Buch zu veröffentlichen. In mehr als 17 Jahren hat sich so eine Fülle an Material angesammelt, dass es ein Problem war, das Interessanteste herauszusuchen. Dort findet man Bilder von Herren, die zu ihrem ersten Ball in weißen Socken erschienen, ebenso wie Damen im Minirock oder Kostüm. Es hat aber nicht lange gedauert, dass sich die Ballbesucher gemäss des Ballprotokolls verhielten. Das Buch würde ich als ein freies Erzählen bezeichnen, es gibt aber auch viele Fakten, es geht jedoch nicht um seriöse Geschichte. Im Gegenteil, ich wünsche mir Freude beim Lesen und dass die Botschaft verstanden wird, dass eine kulturelle und kultivierte Umgebung den Menschen formt. Welchen Platz nimmt der Bratislavaer Ball in dem Buch ein? Aus meiner Sicht hat sich der Bratislavaer Ball im Laufe der Zeit zu einer angenehmen und herzlichen Veranstaltung entwickelt. Viele einzigartige Persönlichkeiten aus unserer Stadt gehen dorthin. Symphatisch ist auch, dass unser Bürgermeister die öffentlichen Vertreter der benachbarten Metropolen einläd. Endlich passt der Ball auch so in den Kalender, dass er nicht mit anderen Veranstaltungen dieser suchen wir einen Herausgeber. Ich glaube aber, dass das jetzt mit Hilfe der erfolgreichen und eifrigen Unternehmeri Elvíra Chadimová gelingt und wir damit die lesende Öffentlichkeit erfreuen. Ich kann mir auch gut vorstellen, dass das Buch auf Deutsch erscheint, denn es ermöglicht auch dem österreichischem Leser einen Blick auf das gesellschaftliche Leben mit den Augen einer Journalistin vom Nachbarn. Es wäre ebenso ein weiterer Schritt für ein gegenseitiges Kennenlernen des Lebens der Leute in Bratislava und Wien. Helmut Zilk s manželkou Dagmar Koller Peter Leginský prepared large number of really rare photographs while I have many original news reports, tiny juicy stories, interviews, experience, and many notes taken, which have never been published, so the decision was taken to put together a book. During those more than seventeen years we managed to collect so much factual material that it was a real problem to sort it out and to choose the most interesting and other most Naturally, some gentlemen could be found there who came to the ball in white socks or ladies in the miniskirts or wearing a twopiece suits, but it didn t take too long and presently, also our ball participants can behave according to the ball protocol. The book itself I would describe as a loose narration, of course, lot of facts could be found there, nevertheless it hasn t character of a serious history. Right to contrary, and I wish that this tiny work would serve as a pleasant reading, something to leaf through and that it would carry a message that the cultural and cultivated surroundings really do form, mould and make up the people. 19 spite the fact that we recorded movement of the rich Slovak cream of society, our successful people seriously and without any rough tabloid over those social events, this interesting book did not manage its way to the press. We thank to the Bratislava Magistrate for the trust and financial support but otherwise we are looking for the publisher literally two years (so long is the book prepared to the Barbora print). Laucká I believe that now, when this project was taken up by a successful businesswoman and devoted Bratislava citizen, Ms Elvíra Chadimová, we shall finally manage and shall please our readership. I can also imagine that the book would be published in German and so it would offer to the Austrian readers view on their social life seen through the eyes of journalists from the next door. 22 ball season VIENNA CITY 11. Ball der Wiener Slowaken Gespräch mit Vladimír Mlynár, dem stellvertretenden Vorsitzenden des Österreichischslowakischen Kulturvereins in Wien. Herr Mlynár, am 20. Jänner fand der 11. Ball der Wiener Slowaken statt. Wie kam es zu dieser Idee? Anfang der 90-er Jahre entstand die Idee, an die Tradition der slowakischen Bälle in Wien in Baden organisiert. Danach fand der Ball Wiener Slowaken sechs Mal im Hotel Schloss Wilhelminenberg statt und wurde zum fixen Bestandteil des Wiener Ballkalenders. Seit 2004 findet er direkt im Herzen Wiens statt in den wundeschönen Räumlichkeiten des Hotels Radisson SAS Palais statt. Der Ball Wiener Slowaken ist nicht nur zu einer Möglichkeit der in Österreich lebenden Slowakinnen und Slowaken, sich in einem eleganten Ambiente zu unterhalten, sondern auch zu einer Gelegenheit für informelle Treffen für Vertreter des Wirtschaftslebens der beiden Hauptstädte geworden. Was ist das Besondere am Ball der Slowaken, was ihn von anderen Wiener Bällen unterscheidet? Da möchte ich auf eine Aussage von Herrn Dr. Fasslabend (früherer österr. Verteidigungsminister, Anm. Redaktion) zurückgreifen, der bei einem Interview für den ORF am 2. Ball gesagt hat: die slowakische Volksgruppe und die Slowaken generell sind eine der kleineren europäischen Nationen, aber eine der fröhlichsten und tanzfreudigsten unseres Kontinents. Der heurige Ball lief unter dem Motto Twin City. Was bedeutet die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wien und Bratislava für die in Wien lebenden Slowaken? Es ist uns ein Anliegen, für das Verständnis zwischen der österreichischen und der slowakischen Bevölkerung anzutreten und einen lebendigen Erfahrungsaustausch anzuregen. Die Nähe der beiden Hauptstädte macht Wien und Bratislava zu einer der interessantesten urbanen Regionen innerhalb der EU. Mit unserem Ball wollen wir einen weiteren kulturellen und gesellschaftlichen Beitrag für das Verständnis zwischen Wien und Bratislava, zwischen den Österreichern und Slowaken leisten. Es ist an der Zeit, dass nach den Jahren des vorsichtigen Abtastens beide Städte ihre Nähe tatsächlich leben, dass der gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Austausch aktiver stattfindet. Wann wurde Ihr Kulturverein gegründet und was sind seine Hauptaufgaben? Nach der Anerkennung als Volksgruppe wurde 1993 der Volksgruppenbeirat gegründet, der die österreichischen Slowaken vertritt. An die traditionellen der slowakischen Volksgruppe und gibt quartalsmäßig die Zeitschrift Pohl ady heraus. Der im Jahr 2003 gegründete Slowakische Schulverein SOVA (Eule) fördert die Volksgruppenarbeit, um den Assimilierungstendenzen der letzten Jahrzehnte entgegen zu wirken und die Sprache als Hauptidentifikationsmerkmal der Volksgruppe zu erhalten. Pán Mlynár, dvadsiateho januára sa konal už 11. ples viedenských Slovákov. Kde sú korene myšlienky usporiadať takýto ples? Začiatkom 90. rokov minulého storočia vznikla myšlienka nadviazať na tradíciu slovenských plesov vo Viedni z prelomu 19. a 20. storočia. Táto iniciatíva prišla z radov Rakúsko-slovenského kultúrneho spolku vo Viedni. Prvý ples sa konal v Grand Hoteli Sauerhof v Badene. Neskôr plesali viedenskí Slováci šesť ráz v hoteli Schloss Wilhelminenberg. Podujatie sa stalo súčasťou viedenského plesového kalendára. Od roku 2004 sa ples koná priamo v srdci Viedne v nádherných priestoroch hotela Radisson SAS Palais. Ples viedenských Slovákov ponúka Slovákom žijúcim v Rakúsku nielen zábavu v elegantnom prostredí, ale je aj príležitosťou na neformálne stretnutia zástupcov hospodárskeho života obidvoch hlavných miest. Čím sa Ples viedenských Slovákov odlišuje od ostatných viedenských plesov? Tu by som rád citoval pána Dr. Fasslabenda (bývalého rakúskeho ministra obrany, pozn. red.), ktorý na 2. plese v rozhovore pre ORF povedal: slovenská menšina a Slováci vo všeobecnosti sú jedným z najmenších európskych národov, ale aj jedným z najveselších a najtancachtivejších na našom kontinente. Myslím si, že spolurozhodujúcou je hudobná zmes slovenskej ľudovej hudby a klasickej tanečnej hudby s hudobníkmi, ktorých mená pozná každý. Motto tohtoročného plesu bolo Twin City. Čo znamená spolupráca medzi Viedňou a Bratislavou pre Slovákov žijúcich vo Viedni? Je v našom záujme prispievať k porozumeniu medzi rakúskym a slovenským obyvateľstvom a podporovať živú výmenu skúseností. Poloha obidvoch hlavných miest robí Viedeň a Bratislavu jedným z najzaujímavejších mestských regiónov v Európskej únii. Naším plesom chceme kultúrne a spoločensky prispieť k porozumeniu medzi Viedňou a Bratislavou, medzi Rakúšanmi a Slovákmi. Je na čase, aby po rokoch opatrného skúmania obidve mestá svoju blízkosť skutočne využili, aby bola spoločenská a kultúrna výmena aktívnejšia. Kedy bol váš kultúrny spolok založený a aké sú jeho hlavné úlohy? Po uznaní národnostnej skupiny bola v roku 1993 založená rada pre národnostné skupiny, ktorá zastupuje rakúskych Slovákov. 21 V roku 1982 založený Rakúskoslovenský kultúrny spolok nadväzuje na tradičné slovenské spolky z 19. a 20. storočia. Je najväčšou a najdôležitejšou organizáciou slovenskej menšiny a kvartálne vydáva časopis Pohľady. V roku 2003 bol založený Slovenský školský spolok SOVA, ktorý podporuje činnosť národnostnej skupiny pomáha jej odolávať asimilačným tendenciám posledných desaťročí a pracuje na zachovaní jazyka ako hlavného identifikačného znaku. 24 ball season 11. The Viennese Slovaks Ball Interview with Vladimír Mlynár, vice-chairman of the Austrian Slovak Cultural Association in Vienna. Mr Mlynár, there was a ball taking place in Vienna on 20 January of Viennese Slovaks. How originated this idea? Idea to follow up the Slovak balls tradition in Vienna dating back to the turn of the centuries arose at the beginning of nineties. This initiative came from the Austrian Slovak Cultural Association in Vienna and the first ball took place in the Grand Hotel Sauerhof in Baden. Later the Viennese Slovaks Ball six times took place in the Schloss Wilhelminenberg Hotel and became the part of the Viennese Ball calendar. Since 2004 the ball is taking place in the very heart of Vienna in the wonderful premises of Radisson SAS Palais hotel. To the Slovaks living in Austria offers the Viennese Slovaks Ball not only opportunity to enjoy themselves in the elegant surroundings but at the same time it is an opportunity for informal meetings of representatives of both Capital Cities economic life. How does the Viennese Slovaks Ball differ from the other Viennese balls? Here I would like quote Dr Fasslabend (former Austrian Minister of Defence, editors comment), who said during his interview for ORF at the second ball: the Slovak minority and Slovaks in general are one of the smallest European nations, nevertheless, one of the most cheerful and dance loving nations in our continent I think, that important co-deciding factor is also a mix of the Slovak folk music and classical dance music played by the musicians whose names is known to everyone. The Twin City was the leitmotif of this year ball. What does the cooperation between Vienna and Bratislava mean for the Slovaks living in Vienna? Contribute to understanding between the Austrian and Slovak inhabitants and support of a lively exchange of experience belongs to our interests. Location of both Capital Cities makes from Vienna and Bratislava one of the most attractive municipal regions in the European Union. So intention of our ball is to culturally and socially contribute to understanding between Vienna and Bratislava, between the Austrians and Slovaks. Its time now that after the years of cautious examination finally both cities really utilise their closeness and that the social and cultural exchange would become more active. When was your cultural association founded and what are its main tasks? After the national group has been recognised, there was a Board for National Groups founded in 1933 representing the Austrian Slovaks. The Austrian Slovak Cultural Association was founded in 1982 representing the follow-up of traditional Slovak Associations from nineteenth and twentieth century. It is the largest and most important organisation of the Slovak minority and it quarterly publishes Pohľady magazine. Dem Kurator Werner Spies ist dabei gelungen, das Spätwerk des großen Malers in einem einzigartigen Licht zu präsentieren. Mehr als alle anderen Maler des vorigen Jahrhunderts wurde Pablo Picasso zu einem Sinnbild der modernen Malerei. In der Wiener Albertina konnten die Besucher vom 22. September bis 7. Jänner ein sorgfältig ausgewähltes Spätwerk des großen spanischen Künstlers bestaunen. Unter dem Titel Malen gegen die Zeit versuchte der ausgewiesene Picasso-Kenner Werner Spies, die Einstellung des Künstlers zu seinem eigenen Altern themenübergreifend darzustellen. Die Ausstellung war ein Renner: Nach Angaben der Albertina zählte sie mehr als Besucher. In den letzten Tagen war der Andrang so groß, dass die Ausstellung sogar um einen Tag verlängert wurde. Unter den vielen bedeutenden Ausstellungen, die wir in der Albertina seit ihrer Wiedereröffnung gezeigt haben, ragt die aktuelle Picasso-Ausstellung an Rang und Umfang heraus, sagt Albertina-Direktor Klaus Albrecht Schröder. Nach Besucherzahlen lässt sich diese Ausstellung mit den größten Highlights der Albertina messen. Nur an der Dürer-Ausstellung im Herbst 2003 zeigten mehr Kunstliebhaber Interesse. Alter Wilder als Inspirator Das Spätwerk Picassos kennzeichnete den immer präsenter werdenden Wettlauf gegen den Tod. Als ob vom immer wachsamen Gefühl des nahen Endes verfolgt, werden Picassos Gemälde der Spätphase immer wilder und unkonventioneller. Er lässt ganze Partien des Bildes unbearbeitet und konzentriert sich auf das Wesentliche, meistens auf eine Figur oder ein Paar als Schwerpunkt des Gemäldes, was bei vielen zeitgenössischen Kritikern auf Schmähungen stieß. Der mittlerweile achtzigjährige Künstler setzte aber unermüdet mit seinem Leben und Schaffen fort: Er heiratete noch einmal eine jüngere Frau und zeigte mit seinen akribischen Zeichnungen eine beachtliche Genauigkeit und Schärfe. Erst in den 80ern fing eine Neubewertung seines Alterswerks an, Picasso wird von den nächsten Künstlergenerationen als Vorläufer und Inspirator entdeckt. Ein Ausdruck der aktuellen Interpretation lässt sich in der albertinischen Ausstellung unmissverständlich ablesen. Werner Spies zeigt dem Publikum, dass sich hinter Picassos wilder Malerei der letzten Jahre eine Tendenz abzeichnet, die auf die zunehmende Knappheit von Picassos Lebenszeit abzielt. Es ist nur mehr wenig Zeit übriggeblieben, deshalb werden die Gemälde reduziert und von der malerischen Konvention weitgehend befreit. Andererseits kämpft der Achtzigjährige mit einer unglaublichen Präzision gegen den Zeitdruck. Offene Konfrontation mit dem Alter Die Ausstellung in der Albertina konzentrierte sich auf mehrere Themen aus Picassos Spätwerk. Zwischen 1959 und 1962 beschäftigte sich der Künstler intensiv mit Manets Das Frühstück im Grünen und schaffte eine Reihe von Paraphrasen zu diesem Werk, von denen etliche wichtige in der Albertina zu sehen waren. Im letzten Lebensjahrzehnt des Malers verstärkte sich der Konflikt zwischen Kunst und Leben, zwischen dem Realen und dem Imaginären. Diese Spannung zeichnet sich in einer Reihe von Gemälden mit dem Motiv des Malers und seines Modells ab. Picassos profunde Beschäftigung mit dem Sexuellen findet in zahlreichen Akten, die von der Darstellung junger, sinnlicher Frauen bis zu Motiven von satyrhaften Greisen variieren, ihren Ausdruck. Das Gefühl, dass der alte Künstler über sein fortgeschrittenes Alter scherzt, war nicht zu übersehen. Den Besuchern blieben in der Albertina auch Picassos späte Zeichnungen, Druckgrafiken sowie monumentale Figuren der Endzeit nicht erspart. Eine unglaubliche Vielfalt seines Alterswerks und eine hervorragend vorbereitete Ausstellung bilden sicherlich den Höhepunkt des Wiener Kulturprogramms in diesem Winter. Nedad Memič 23

Kurátorovi Wernerovi Spiesovi sa podarilo predstaviť neskoré dielo veľkého maliara v jedinečnom svetle. Väčšmi než všetci ostatní maliari minulého storočia bol Pablo Picasso symbolom moderného maliarstva. Vo viedenskej Albertine mohli návštevníci od 22. septembra do 7. januára obdivovať starostlivo vybrané neskoré diela tohto veľkého španielskeho umelca. Uznávaný znalec Picassovho diela, Werner Spies, sa pokúsil pod názvom Maľovanie proti času tematicky znázorniť umelcov postoj k jeho vlastnému starnutiu. Výstava mala veľký úspech: podľa údajov Albertiny ju navštívilo viac ako 340-tisíc návštevníkov. V posledných dňoch bol nával taký veľký, že výstavu o jeden deň predĺžili. Spomedzi mnohých dôležitých výstav, ktoré sme v Albertine od jej znovuotvorenia predstavili, sa aktuálna Picassova výstava vyníma obsahom aj rozsahom, hovorí riaditeľ týchto výstavných priestorov Klaus Albrecht Schröder. Návštevnosť tejto prezentácie je porovnateľná s vrcholnými výstavami Albertiny. Iba o Dürerovu výstavu, ktorá sa konala na jeseň 2003, prejavilo záujem viac milovníkov umenia. Starý blázon ako inšpirátor V Picassových neskorých dielach sú čoraz častejšie prítomné preteky so smrťou. Picassove obrazy z tohto obdobia sú väčšmi neusporiadanejšie a nekonvenčnejšie, akoby ho prenasledoval narastajúci pocit blížiaceho sa konca. Celé časti obrazu necháva neopracované a zameriava sa na to podstatné, väčšinou na jednu postavu alebo pár ako ťažisko obrazu, čím si u mnohých kritikov vyslúžil urážky. Medzičasom už osemdesiatročný umelec však vo svojom živote a tvorbe neúnavne pokračuje: ešte raz sa oženil s mladšou ženou a jeho pedantské kresby sa vyznačujú pozoruhodnou presnosťou a ostrosťou. Až v osemdesiatych rokoch dochádza k prehodnoteniu jeho neskorého diela, prichádzajúca generácia umelcov objavuje Picassa ako predchodcu a inšpirátora. Výraz aktuálnej interpretácie možno jasne vyčítať z výstavy v Albertine. Werner Spies publiku ukazuje, ako sa v Picassových divokých maľbách posledných rokov odráža blížiaci sa koniec jeho života. Zostáva už iba málo času, a preto sú obrazy redukované a oslobodené od maliarskych konvencií. Na druhej strane osemdesiatročný umelec bojuje s tlakom času neuveriteľnou precíznosťou. Otvorená konfrontácia s vekom Výstava v Albertine bola venovaná niekoľkým témam z Picassových neskorých diel. V rokoch 1959 až 1962 sa umelec intenzívne zaoberal Manetovými Raňajkami v tráve a vytvoril sériu parafráz tohto diela, z ktorých niektoré bolo vidieť v Albertine. V posledných desiatich rokoch maliarovho života zosilnel konflikt medzi umením a životom, medzi skutočnosťou a predstavivosťou. Toto napätie sa odráža v sérii obrazov s motívom maliara a jeho modelu. Picassove hlboké zaoberanie sa sexualitou vyjadrujú početné akty, na ktorých sú zobrazené mladé, zmyselné ženy ako aj motívy satyrských starcov. Nemožno prehliadnuť, že starý umelec si zo svojho pokročilého veku robí žarty. Albertina predstavila návštevníkom aj Picassove neskoré kresby, grafiky a monumentálne vyobrazenia konca sveta. Neuveriteľná rozmanitosť jeho neskorého diela a vynikajúco pripravená výstava vytvorili nepochybne vrchol viedenského kultúrneho programu tejto zimy. Nedad Memič 24

Curator Werner Spies managed to introduce late works of the great painter in a unique light. Pablo Picasso, more than any other painter of the last century, was symbol of the modern painting. Since 22nd September till 7th January could visitors to Viennese Albertina admire carefully selected works by this great Spanish artist. By title of the exhibition Painting Against Time the renowned expert of Picasso s work, Werner Spies, attempted to illustrate thematically the artists attitude towards his own ageing. The exhibition was a great success: according to the Albertina data it was visited by more than visitors. During the final days the jam was so bad that exhibition had to be prolonged of one day. Out of the many important exhibitions that we have introduced in Albertina since it was newly opened, the present Picasso exhibition seems prominent thanks to its content as well as scope. says the Albertina Director, Klaus Albrecht Schröder. Number of visitors can be compared only with several paramount exhibitions in Albertina. Higher interest showed the lovers of art only in the autumn 2003 when they came to see the Dürer s exhibition. The Old Fool as Inspirer Themes of competition with death appears in the late Picasso s works ever frequently. His works from this period are less and less arranged and more and more unconventional, it seems that he felt haunted by the feeling of approaching end of his life. He would leave the whole parts of a painting unprocessed and would focus on the basics, primarily on one figure or sometimes a on pair of them posted as a centre of gravity, and this brought upon him offence from many of his critics. Nevertheless, artist, now in his eighties, continues to works tirelessly on his own life and work: He got married once more to a younger woman and in his pedantic sketches became apparent remarkable precision and sharpness. Only in eighties began reinterpretation of his late works and the coming generation discovers Picasso as their predecessor and inspirer. Expression of the current interpretation can be clearly read from the Albertina exhibition. Werner Spies illustrates to the public how the forthcoming end of Picasso s life is reflected in his wild paintings of last years. There is just few time left and therefore the paintings are reduced and freed from the painters conventions. On the other hand the eighty years old artist fights with the pressure of time with unbelievable preciseness. Open Confrontation with Age Exhibition in Albertina was dedicated to several themes from the Picasso s late works. During the period from1959 to1962 the artist intensively dealt with the Manet s Breakfast in Open Air and created series of imitations of this work out of which some could be seen in Albertina. Within the last ten years of painters life the conflict between the art and life, between reality and imagination became much stronger. This tension is reflected in the series of paintings with motif of a painter and his model. Picasso s deep concern with sexuality expresses in many nudes depicting young, sensual women as well as motifs of satyr-looking old men. It cannot be overlooked that the old artist makes fun of his advanced age. Albertina introduced to its visitors also the late Picasso s sketches, graphics and monumental depiction of the End of the World. Unbelievable variety of his late works and brilliantly prepared exhibition represent without any doubt the climax of the Viennese cultural program for this winter. Nedad Memič 25

Frenglová ILLUVISIONS Nový tvorivý objav na slovenskej výtvarnej scéne Príjemným prekvapením pre Bratislavčanov a návštevníkov našej metropoly, ktorí majú radi dobré výtvarné umenie, je výstava Ivety Sarvašovej ILLUVISIONS. Prináša autorkinu všestranne náročnú maliarsku tvorbu plnú epickolyrického vyznania. V roku 1980 ukončila Strednú priemyselnú umeleckú školu, neskôr vyštudovala na Filozofickej fakulte Univerzity Komenského odbor teória kultúry. Nikdy však nechcela opustiť ceruzku a papier. Grafika, ktorej tvorivé možnosti vštepil do Ivetinej tvorby profesor Štrba, sa v autorke roky rodila, v jej duši a srdci. Postupne vznikali nové diela hlboko prežité a prepracované novými výtvarnými a životnými skúsenosťami, no vždy naplnené výnimočným talentom. Svet ľudskej príjemnej komunikatívnej Bratislavčanky Ivety Sarvašovej mal svoj životný protipól v samotnej osobnosti autorky vo svete intímnej, introvertnej tvorkyne, ktorá chce do výtvarného sveta priniesť (a prináša) len dobré poctivé diela... Historik umenia PhDr. Ľuboslav Moza predstavuje Ivetu Sarvašovú slovami: Je to zázračná žena talentu a pracovitosti. Jej maliarske dielo je prejavom tvorivého ducha. Ctí technologické postupy, náročnosť k umeleckej tvorbe a tvorivú kreativitu. Ivetina maľba je súzvukom imaginácie a filozofie. Jej obrazy sú úvahami nad živým svetom okolo nás, nad životom. V nekonečných oblinách reality života vytvára vzťahy ľudského a živého. K maľbe pristupuje nesmierne náročne. Venuje sa vykresleniu každého detailu. Dotvára ich kultivovanými farebnými valérmi. Iveta nechce prekvapiť. Skôr harmonizovať, jemne vstúpiť do života diváka a postupne ho doviesť k hodnote poznania. Každodenného nachádzania krásy v drobných, zdanlivo bežných veciach. Tvorba Ivety Sarvašovej je novým tvorivým objavom na našej výtvarnej scéne. Treba ju poznať. A pokiaľ sa dá, i vlastniť. Illuvisions Eine neue Entdeckung in der slowakischen Kunstszene Eine angenehme Überraschung für die kunstliebenden Bratislavaer und die Besucher der Stadt ist die Ausstellung von Iveta Sarvašová ILLUVISIONS. Die Künstlerin zeigt ihr vielseitiges und anspruchsvolles Werk als Liebeserklärung an Epik und Lyrik schloss die Künstlerin die Kunstmittelschule ab, später studierte sie Kulturtheorie an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Komenius Universität. Sie dachte jedoch nie daran, Papier und Stift zur Seite zu legen. Die Möglichkeiten der Grafik, die Professor Štrba ihr vermittelt hatte, entwickelten sich in der Autorin über Jahre in ihrer Seele und in ihrem Herzen weiter. Langsam entstanden neue Werke, Ausdruck tiefen Erlebens und ausgearbeitet mit Hilfe neuer künstlerischer Ausdrucksund Lebenserfahrungen, stets von außergewöhnlichem Talent begleitet. Die Welt der menschlich-freundlichen und kommunikativen Iveta Sarvašová aus Bratislava findet ihren Gegenpol in der einsamen Persönlichkeit als Autorin in der Welt der zurückgezogenen, introvertierten Künstlerin, die der Welt der Kunst nur würdige Werke zeigen möchte. Der Kunsthistoriker PhDr. Ľuboslav Moza stellt Iveta Sarvašová mit folgenden Worten vor: Sie ist eine wunderbare Frau mit Talent und Fleiß. Ihre Malereien sind Ausdruck einer schöpferischen Seele. Graphic, with its creative possibilities, which into the Iveta s work inculcated professor Štrba, came to the existence gradually, over years, in the author s soul, in her heart. The new works have been created step by step, gradually, deeply experienced and fulfilled with the new artistic and vital experience and always fulfilled with an extraordinary talent. 30 profily Najúspešnejšia športovkyňa Bratislavy Jana Dukátová má rada mesto na Dunaji Víťazkou šestnásteho ročníka ankety o najúspešnejšieho športovca Bratislavy a Bratislavského kraja sa stala vodná slalomárka Jana Dukátová. Dvadsaťtriročná vodáčka bratislavskej Slávie UK získala v roku 2006 viaceré ocenenia v spoločenských anketách a zaradila sa medzi najúspešnejších športovcov Slovenska. Ziskom titulu majsterky sveta sa umiestnila v ankete Športovec roka 2006 na druhom mieste. Nemenej hodnotným a príjemným prekvapením pre Janu bol pozitívny ohlas zo strany širokej verejnosti v ankete čitateľov denníka Šport O najobľúbenejšiu slovenskú športovú osobnosť roka 2006, v ktorej sa umiestnila na siedmej priečke. V ankete O najúspešnejšieho športovca Bratislavy sa umiestňovala už aj po minulé roky nikdy však nie na prvom mieste. Športové výsledky ju v roku 2006 vyniesli na najvyššiu priečku: Bola som poctená prevziať ocenenie priamo z rúk primátora hlavného mesta Andreja Ďurkovského, čo ma veľmi potešilo, vyjadruje svoje pocity Jana Dukátová. O športových začiatkoch nám mladá vodná slalomárka povedala: Prvýkrát som sedela v kajaku už v 11 rokoch. Na vodu som sa dostala vďaka známym a hneď prvý tréning ma úplne nadchol. Dodnes si pamätám, ako som sa celý víkend tešila na ďalší tréning. Karloveská zátoka a lodenica sa stali mojím druhým domovom, tu som trávila všetok voľný čas. Aký je Janin vzťah k Bratislave? Narodila som sa tu a žijem tu celý život. Je to pekné mesto, ktoré zatiaľ natoľko netrpí negatívnymi faktormi veľkomiest. Je mi sympatická jeho poloha na rieke. Mesto, cez ktoré nepreteká rieka, nemá také čaro. Večerný odraz osvetlených dominánt na hladine Dunaja je skrátka fantastický. To, že žijem v Bratislave, má pre mňa nespočetné výhody, sú tu výborné podmienky na tréning. Nielenže v neďalekom Čunove je areál vodných športov, ale i všetky ostatné tréningové a regeneračné objekty sú nablízku. Okrem toho možnosti štúdia a vzdelávania sú v Bratislave na veľmi dobrej úrovni, takže je tu všetko pod jednou strechou. Úspešná športovkyňa študujete na Univerzite Komenského knižničnú a informačnú vedu. Zvolila si špecializáciu informačné systémy a informačná analýza, teraz je už v poslednom semestri štúdia. V budúcnosti, po skončení športovej kariéry, by som sa rada uplatnila na poli internetového marketingu či vyhľadávacích služieb internetu. Je to oblasť, ktorú práve rozpracovávam v diplomovej práci, dodáva úspešná športovkyňa. Aké dôležité udalosti, súťaže či preteky čakajú Janu Dukátovú v roku 2007? Čo by si priala dosiahnuť v športovej kariére? Športovým vrcholom tohto roka sa stanú Majstrovstvá sveta v Brazílii, kde sa budú už získavať olympijské miestenky do Pekingu Okrem toho absolvujem i majstrovstvá Európy v Liptovskom Mikuláši a sériu svetových pohárov. Mojím športovým želaním v roku 2007 je potvrdiť vynikajúce výsledky z minulého roku a pravidelne sa umiestňovať na vrcholných podujatiach na stupňoch víťazov. Len tak sa dá dosiahnuť dobrá psychická pohoda pred nasledujúcim náročným olympijským rokom Diana Madejová 28

Mal stattfindenen Umfrage, wer der/die beste SportlerIn von Bratislava und Umkreis ist, ist Jana Dukátová, Weltmeisterin im Kanuslalom. Die 23-jährige Wassersportlerin, aktiv im Verein Slávia UK in Bratislava, hat 2006 bereits mehrere Auszeichnungen bei Umfragen gewonnen und zählt somit zu den erfolgreichsten SportlerInnen der Slowakei. Nachdem sie den Weltmeistertitel gewonnen hatte, landete sie bei der Wahl zum Sportler des Jahres 2006 auf dem zweiten Platz. Eine angenehme Überraschung war der positive Widerhall seitens der Öffentlichkeit, als sie bei einer Leserumfrage zur beliebtesten Sportlerpersönlichkeit des Jahres 2006 der Tageszeitung Šport auf den siebten Platz gewählt wurde. Bei der Wahl zum erfolgreichsten Sportler von Bratislava in den letzten Jahren konnte sie sich stets platzieren, es reichte jedoch nie für den ersten Platz. Die sportlichen Ergebnisse des Jahres 2006 trugen sie nun auf die höchste Stufe: Ich habe mich sehr geehrt gefühlt und gefreut, den Preis aus den Händen des Bürgermeisters Andrej Ďurkovský entgegen nehmen zu dürfen, berichtet Jana Dukátová. Über ihre sportlichen Anfänge erzählt uns die junge Slalomkanutin: Mit 11 Jahren habe ich zum ersten Mal in einem Kajak gesessen. Zum Wassersport bin ich über Bekannte gekommen und gleich beim ersten Training hat es mich gepackt. Bis heute kann ich mich daran erinnern, wie ich mich das ganze Wochenende auch auf das nächste Training gefreut habe. Der Karloveská See und sein Bootshaus wurden mir zur zweiten Heimat, dort habe ich meine gesamte Freizeit verbracht. Wie steht Jana Dukátová zu Bratislava? Ich bin hier geboren und lebe mein ganzes Leben hier. Es ist eine schöne Stadt, die bislang noch nicht an den typischen Großstadterscheinungen krankt. Ich mag besonders die geographische Lage und die Lage am Fluss. Eine Stadt, durch die kein Fluss fließt, besitzt nicht so einen Zauber. Die beleuchteten Gebäude am Ufer der Donau sind einfach nur wunderschön. Bratislava hat für mich viele Vorteile, es gibt hervorragende Trainingsbedingungen. Nicht nur das nahe Čunovo Areal für Wassersportarten, auch die anderen Trainings-und Erholungsmöglichkeiten liegen in der Nähe. Ausserdem sind die Studien-und Bildungsmöglichkeiten in Bratislava auf hohem Niveau, man hat alles unter einem Dach. Die erfolgreiche Sportlerin studiert an der Komenius Universität Bibliotheks-und Informationswissenschaften. Meine Spezialisierung sind die Informationssysteme und analysen und ich befinde mich bereits im letzten Semester. Nach dem Ende meiner Sportkarriere würde ich gerne etwas im Bereich Internet Marketing oder Suchdienstleistungen im Internet machen: Dieses Gebiet behandle ich auch in meiner Diplomarbeit, berichtet Jana Dukátová. Welche weiteren wichtigen Termine und Wettkämpfe warten auf Jana Dukátová 2007? Was möchte sie in ihrer sportlichen Karriere noch erreichen? Der sportliche Höhepunkt dieses Jahres sind die Weltmeisterschaften in Brasilien, bei denen es um die Qualifizierung für die Olympischen Spiele in Peking 2008 geht. Dazu kommen die Europameisterschaften in Liptovský Mikuláš und die Weltcupserie möchte ich meine meine hervorragenden Leistungen von 2006 bestätigen und bei allen Spitzenveranstaltungen auf dem Siegertreppchen stehen. Nur so ist man in guter psychischer Verfassung für die anspruchsvollen Olympischen Spiele Diana Madejová The Best Bratislava Sportswoman Jana Dukátová Loves the City on Danube Winner of the sixteenth year of survey for the Most Successful Sportsman of Bratislava and the Bratislava region became the slalom canoeist Jana Dukátová. The twentythree years old water sportswoman from the Bratislava s Slávia UK achieved already several other awards in surveys and so she integrated into the most successful sportsmen in Slovakia. By winning the Champion of the World title she took the second place in the Sportsman of 2006 survey. Surprise, which was not less valuable and pleasant provided for Jana the positive response from the wide public reflected in the readers survey organised by the daily newspaper Sport for the Most Popular Slovak Sport Personality of 2006 where she was placed seventh. Though in the recent years she occupied positions in the survey for the Most Successful Bratislava Sportsman still, it never was the first one. Her sport results in 2006 won for her the highest position: I was honoured by taking over this award directly from hands of the Capital City Mayor, Andrej Ďurkovský, what makes me very happy, expresses her feelings Jana Dukátová. About her sports beginnings the young slalom canoeist told us: For a first time I was sitting in the kayak when I was 11. I managed to get to the water thanks to my friends and the very first training was absolute thrill for me. I still remember how happy I was over the whole weekend and looking forward to the next training. The cove in the Karlova Ves and the shipyard became my second home; I was spending here all my leisure time. What is Jana s relation to Bratislava? I was born here and I spent here all my life. It is a nice town that yet it doesn t suffer so much from the negative factors typical for large cities. Very pleasant is also its location on the river. A city that hasn t river running through does not posses such a charm. The evening reflection of the dominant features illuminated and reflecting at the surface of the Danube is simply fantastic. Living in Bratislava has countless advantages for me including excellent conditions for training. Not only there is a water sports complex in the nearby Čunovo but also all the other training and regeneration objects needed are in the neighbourhood. Apart from all that there are opportunities for study and further education at a very good level, so everything is here under one roof. The successful sportswoman studies library and information science at the Comenius University. She has chosen specialisation on information systems and information analysis; she is in her final semester of study. In the future, after finishing my sports carrier I would like to work in the field of Internet marketing or Internet localisation services. This is the area, which I presently discuss in my diploma work, adds the successful sportswoman. What important events, competitions or championship are waiting for Jana Dukátová in 2007? What she would like to achieve in her sports carrier? A climactic event of this year shall be the World championship in Brazil where shall be gained also the Olympics reservations for Beijing Apart from that I shall be taking part also in the European Championship in Liptovský Mikuláš and series of world cups. My sport desire for 2007 is to confirm the excellent results from the last year and to regularly take a good position at the victory rostrum within the top events. Only so can be the good psychological equilibrium achieved before the demanding Olympics year of Diana Madejová 29

32 profily VIENNA CITY Dr. Boris Nemšić, riaditeľ Telekom Austria CEO der Telekom Austria Executive Director, Telekom Austria Unternehmerexot Boris Nemšić, Geschäftsführer der Telekom Austria, gehört zweifelsohne zu den zehn Top-Managern Österreichs. Obwohl er nicht in Österreich geboren und aufgewachsen ist, war die Integration in die österreichische Gesellschaft für ihn kein Thema. Die Telekom Austria war in letzter Zeit oft in den österreichischen Medien präsent. Im Sommer war sie mit gleich zwei Angeboten für die dritte Mobilfunklizenz in der Slowakei und in Serbien abgeblitzt. In den letzten Wochen kommen aber wieder Erfolgsmeldungen aus dem größten Telekom-Unternehmen Österreichs. Zuerst schwarze Umsatzzahlen, dann doch die positive Antwort aus Serbien. Die Telekom Austria Gruppe kann nun die dritte serbische Mobilfunklizenz um 320 Millionen Euro erwerben. Ein richtiger Moment, um mit dem Geschäftsführer der Telekom Austria, Dr. Boris Nemšić, über die Expansionspolitik des Konzerns und über ihn selbst zu reden. Über den letzten Erfolg in Serbien zeigt sich Nemšić höchst erfreut: Wir arbeiten jetzt mit Hochdruck daran, in Serbien ein neues Mitglied der mobilkom austria group aufzubauen, sagt er. In Serbien endet die Expansionspolitik des Unternehmens in Südosteuropa keinesfalls. Natürlich wollen wir unsere Expansionsstrategie fortsetzen, der Markt ist ja ständig in Bewegung, so Nemšić. In den letzten Monaten wurde viel über einen Markteinstieg in Bosnien-Herzegowina spekuliert. Bosnien liegt in unserem Fokus, sagt der gebürtige bosnische Kroate. Wir sind optimistisch, dass wir unserem Ziel, der führende Mobilfunkanbieter zwischen Bodensee und dem Schwarzen Meer zu werden, immer näher kommen. Boris Nemšić gebührt unter Österreichs Top-Managern ein besonderer Stellenwert. Als nicht gebürtiger Österreicher konnte er sich bis in die Top- Etagen eines der erfolgreichsten Unternehmen des Landes hocharbeiten. Für ihn selbst scheint das kein allzu großes Problem gewesen zu sein. Während die Frage der Integration für viele gebildete Personen mit Migrationshintergrund ein oft unüberwindbares Hindernis darstellt, war sie für Nemšić kein Thema. Ich bin zweisprachig aufgewachsen und die Lebensweise und Kultur hier ist nicht so verschieden, sagt er. Außerdem konnte er mit Unterstützung in Österreich rechnen. Ich habe eine sehr offene Umgebung vorgefunden. Ich hatte das Ziel, die Dissertation zu machen und habe die Gelegenheit dazu in Wien bekommen. Boris Nemšić hat seine Dissertation am Institut für Nachrichtentechnik der Technischen Universität Wien abgeschlossen. An dieser Universität übt er jetzt die Funktion eines Universitätsrats aus. Boris Nemšić betrachtet sich als Exoten unter Österreichs Unternehmern: Ich komme aus Südosteuropa, dort gehen Manager normalerweise hin, ich bin Techniker (und kein Ökonom oder Jurist) und spreche nicht perfekt Deutsch all das hat es aber für mich nicht schwieriger gemacht, hier Fuß zu fassen, bemerkt er. An Wien schätzt Nemšić besonders die vielen Kaffeehäuser. Er lebt gerne dort, jedoch vermisst er in Wien eine Sache: das Meer. Deshalb nütze ich gerne verlängerte Wochenenden, um einen Abstecher nach Kroatien zu machen. Über die Twin City findet Telekom-Chef nur lobende Worte: Durch das Twin City-Konzept wachsen die Hauptstädte Wien und Bratislava und das ist für österreichische Investoren natürlich sehr interessant. Deshalb zeigt er sich nach wie vor enttäuscht über die negative Antwort der slowakischen Seite in Bezug auf die Übernahme der dritten Mobilfunklizenz: Für uns war die Lizenz vor allem durch das wirtschaftlioche Zusammenwachsen beider Hauptstädte interessant, schließt Nemšić ab. 30

33 profiles VIENNA CITY Exot medzi podnikateľmi Boris Nemšić, riaditeľ Telekom Austria, patrí nepochybne k desiatim najlepším manažérom v Rakúsku. I keď sa nenarodil ani nevyrastal v tejto krajine, nebola pre neho integrácia do rakúskej spoločnosti žiadnou témou. Spoločnosti Telekom Austria sa rakúske médiá v poslednom čase venovali často. V lete boli zamietnuté dve jej ponuky na tretieho mobilného operátora na Slovensku a v Srbsku. V posledných týždňoch však najväčšia telekomunikačná spoločnosť v Rakúsku opäť dosahuje úspechy. Najskôr čierne čísla obratu, neskôr predsa len pozitívna odpoveď zo Srbska. Skupina Telekom Austria môže teraz získať tretiu licenciu na prevádzkovanie mobilnej siete v Srbsku za 320 miliónov eur. Nastal teda vhodný čas na rozhovor s riaditeľom Telekom Austria, Dr. Borisom Nemšićom, o expanzívnej politike koncernu, no aj o ňom samom. Nemšić neskrýva radosť z posledného úspechu v Srbsku: Momentálne naplno pracujeme na kreovaní nového člena skupiny Mobilkom Austria v Srbsku, hovorí. Priebojná politika spoločnosti sa v žiadnom prípade nekončí v juhovýchodnej Európe. Samozrejme, v nastúpenej stratégii chceme pokračovať, trh je predsa neustále v pohybe, hovorí riaditeľ. V posledných mesiacoch sa veľa uvažovalo o vstupe na trh v Bosne a Hercegovine. Bosna leží v centre nášho záujmu, hovorí rodený bosniansky Chorvát. Sme optimistickí, pokiaľ ide o dosiahnutie nášho cieľa stať sa vedúcim mobilným operátorom v priestore od jazera Bodensee a Čiernym morom. Borisovi Nemšićovi patrí medzi rakúskymi top manažérmi osobitné miesto. Ako nerodený Rakúšan sa dokázal prepracovať na vrchol jednej z najúspešnejších spoločností v krajine. On sám to nepovažuje za žiadny veľký problém. Zatiaľ čo pre mnohých vzdelaných prisťahovalcov predstavuje otázka integrácie často neprekonateľnú prekážku, pre Nemšića nebola žiadnou témou. Vyrastal som v dvojjazyčnom prostredí a tunajší spôsob života a kultúra nie sú až také odlišné, hovorí. Navyše, v Rakúsku mohol počítať s podporou. Natrafil som na veľmi otvorené prostredie. Mojím cieľom bolo urobiť dizertáciu a príležitosť som dostal vo Viedni. Dizertačnú prácu dokončil v Inštitúte pre telekomunikačné technológie na Technickej univerzite vo Viedni, kde dnes pôsobí v univerzitnej rade. Boris Nemšić sa považuje za exota medzi rakúskymi podnikateľmi: Pochádzam z juhovýchodnej Európy, som technik (a nie ekonóm alebo právnik) a nehovorím perfektnou nemčinou nič z toho mi však neprekážalo v tom, aby som sa tu uchytil, podotýka. Na Viedni obľubuje najmä jej početné kaviarne. Žije tu rád, chýba mu jedno: more. Preto rád využívam predĺžené víkendy na odskočenie do Chorvátska. O koncepte miest-dvojičiek sa riaditeľ Telekom Austria vyjadruje výlučne pochvalne: Vďaka tomuto konceptu sa rozvíjajú hlavné mestá Viedeň a Bratislava, čo je pre rakúskych investorov, samozrejme, veľmi zaujímavé. Aj preto je stále sklamaný z negatívnej odpovede zo slovenskej strany v súvislosti s prevzatím tretej licencie na prevádzkovanie mobilnej siete: Pre nás bola táto licencia zaujímavá predovšetkým z dôvodu spoločného hospodárskeho rozvoja obidvoch hlavných miest, uzatvára Nemšić. Exot among the entrepreneurs Boris Nemšić, Director of Telekom Austria, belongs without any doubt to the ten best mangers in Austria. Despite the fact that he was not born and even grown in Austria, integration to the Austrian company wasn t a mayor problem for him. During the past several months the Austrian media were dealing with the company Telekom Austria quite often. Two of its offers for the third mobile operator one for Slovakia and in Serbia as well have been rejected in summer. Nevertheless, the largest telecommunication company in Austria experiences success again during the last few weeks. First, the black numbers appeared in the turnover area, but later came the positive answer from Serbia. The Telekom Austria is now free to get the third licence for operating the mobile net valued EUR 320 million in Serbia. Therefore it s a suitable time for interview with the Telekom Austria Director, Dr Boris Nemšić, about expansive policy of the concern and about himself. Nemšić would not hide the joy caused by the last success in the Serbia: At the moment we are working hard at development of the mobilkom austria group new member in Serbia he says. In no case shall be the company s expansive policy finshing in the South-Eastern Europe. We, of course, would like to continue the expansive policy, after all, the market moves constantly, says Mr Nemšić. During the last few months there have been lot of discussions about entering the markets in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia lies in the centre of our interest, says the born Bosnian Croatian. And we are optimistic as far as reaching of our goal is concerned to became the leading mobile operator between the Bodensee lake and the Black Sea. Among the Austrian top managers a special place belongs to Boris Nemšić. As someone who is not Austrian by birth he managed to get to the top position in one of the most successful companies in the country. Himself, he does not consider it as any major problem. While question of integration often represents an insuperable barrier for many well-educated immigrants, it wasn t any problem for Nemšić. I grew up in the bilingual environment and the local way of life and the culture are not so different, says Nemšić. Furthermore, I could rely on some support. And I came across a very open environment. I was supposed to accomplish dissertation and I got opportunity to do so in Vienna. Boris Nemšić finished his dissertation at the Institute for Telecommunication Technologies at the Vienna Technical University where he is still active in its University Board. Boris Nemšić considers himself an exotic subject among the Austrian entrepreneurs: I come from the South-Eastern Europe, I am technician (not economist or a lawyer) nor do I speak perfect German nevertheless, nothing of those facts was hindering me from my taking hold of a chance, observes Nemšić. What he likes about Vienna especially are its countless coffee bars. He loves living here, but still missing one thing: the sea. That s why I like to use the elongated weekends for pop off to Croatia. Opinion of the Telecom Austria Director concerning the Twin- City concept is exclusively positive. The capital Cities, Vienna and Bratislava develop also thanks to this project and this is, of course, really interesting for the Austrian investors. And this is also a reason why he is still feeling little disappointed because of the negative reply from the Slovak side in connection with third licence for the mobile net provider: Reason, why this licence was interesting for us was primarily because of the common economic development of both Capital Cities concludes Nemšić. Trio vzniklo v roku 2003, jeho členovia spoločne účinkovali v Moravia Guitar Consort, ktoré viedol známy Alois Menšík. Interpretovali renesančnú a barokovú hudbu. Ako trio hrajú predovšetkým súčasnú hudbu. Majstrovské kurzy u Alvara Pierriho a Pabla Márqueza boli dôležitým povzbudením v začiatkoch ich umeleckej činnosti. V roku 2004 a 2005 Trio získalo 2. cenu na medzinárodnej gitarovej súťaži v talianskej Gorizii (Consorso Europeo di Chitarra Classica Città di Gorizia) a v roku 2006 si dokonca odniesli 1. cenu v kategórii gitarové triá. Ďusi Burmeč študoval na konzervatóriu v Kroměříži u Josefa Švédu, potom na JAMU v Prahe u Milana Zelenku. Anna Slezáková začala spoznávať gitaru u Ludmily Menšíkovej a Aloisa Menšíka v Uherskom Hradišti, neskôr študovala na konzervatóriu v Brne u profesora Vladislava Bláhu. Teraz je študentkou u Alvara Pierriho na Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst vo Viedni. Vlastimil Flajšingr pochádza zo Zlína. Počas štúdií na konzervatóriu v Pardubiciach v triede prof. Stanislava Juřicu sa aktívne zúčastnil majstrovských tried, ktoré viedli Roberto Aussel, Carlo Marchione. Okrem koncertovania sa venuje aj pedagogickej práci. Trio Folarte predvedie v prvej polovici programu Pásmo hudby Claude Gagnona, ktorým bude sprevádzať umelecký prednes z knihy Lewisa Carolla Alica v ríši zázrakov. Text fascinujúceho rozprávkového príbehu prednesie herečka Slováckeho divadla v Uherskom Hradišti Anna Slezáková Miková. V druhej časti programu zaznejú skladby Astora Piazzollu, Érica Satieho a originálne skladby komponované pre gitarové trio od Paula Bellinatiho, Paula Hindemitha a Máxima Diega Pujola. Komorný súbor Trio Folarte vyniká precíznosťou v súhre, farebnou a výraznou dynamikou a jasnou pôsobivou artikuláciou. Trio koncertovalo v Rakúsku, Taliansku, Českej republike, na Slovensku vystúpi po prvý raz. Derzeit ist sie bei Alvaro Pierri an der Universität für Musik in Wien eingeschrieben. Vlastimil Flajšingr stammt aus Žilina. Während seines Studiums am Konservatorium in Pardubice in der Klasse bei Professor Stanislav Juřica, war er auch in der Meisterklasse, geführt von Roberto Aussel und Carlo Marchione, aktiv. Neben seinen Konzerttätigkeiten wirkt er auch im pädagogischen Bereich. Im ersten Programmteil spielt Folarte Stücke von Claude Gagnon, die von einem künstlerischen Vortrag aus dem Trio Folarte Buch Alice im Wunderland von Lewis Carroll begleitet werden. Der Text dieses faszinierenden Märchens wird von der Schauspielerin des Mährisch-Slowakischen Theaters aus Uhérske Hradište, Anna Slezáková-Miková vorgetragen. Excellent masters of their instruments the Czech guitar trio Trio Folarte with members Ďusi Burmeč, Anna Slezáková and Vlastimil Flajšingr shall be performing within the Momentum musicum, the Petržalka cycle of concerts. The trio was formed in 2003 and its members were previously playing together in the Moravia Guitar Consort where they were interpreting renaissance and baroque music under the leadership of well-known Alois Menšík. As a trio formation they are primarily playing the contemporary music. Virtuoso courses with Alvaro Pierri and Pablo Márquez provided a really important encouragement at the beginnings of their artistic activities. In 2004 and 2005 the Trio won the 2. Prize at the International Guitar Competition in the Italian Gorizia (Consorso Europeo di Chitarra Classica Citta di Gorizia ) and in 2006 they even took the first Prize in category of Guitar Trios. Apart from giving concerts he is also engaged in pedagogical work. In the first half of the program the Trio Folarte shall perform music series by Claude Gagnon, and so accompany the artistic recitation from Lewis Carols Alice in the Wonderland. Text of this fascinating fairy tale story shall be performed by actor from Slovácké divadlo in Uherské Hradiště, Anna Slezáková Miková. The second part of the program will be filled with works by Astor Piazzolla, Éric Satie and also performed shall be original works composed for guitar trio by Paul Bellinati, Paul Hindemith and Máxim Diego Pujola. The chamber group Trio Folarte excels by its harmoniousness preciseness, colourful and distinct dynamics and clear, impressive articulation. 36 BRATISLAVA CITY Čajovňa Kelion Dobrý vkus, lákavá vôňa, pozitívna atmosféra Voľakedy malý domček uprostred vinohradov, dnes vkusná a útulná čajovňa v tichom prostredí rodinných domov na jednom z najpríjemnejších bratislavských sídlisk západne od centra mesta v Karlovej Vsi. Pozitívny pocit z prostredia umocňujú aj ľudia, ktorých tu môžeme stretnúť majiteľku Máriu Banášovú, pôvodne výtvarníčku, ktorá zariadila toto miesto s mimoriadnym vkusom a citom, ale aj príjemný a šikovný personál, o ktorom majiteľka hovorí, že je alfou a omegou úspešného podniku. Myšlienka na založenie čajovne vznikla v hlave mojej staršej dcéry, vysvetľuje. Vždy sme mali v rodine vzťah k bylinkám, zbierali sme ich na dovolenkách, sušili na zimu. Ja s manželom sme len pomáhali uskutočniť dcérin sen. Keď sa rozhodla odísť do Prahy, čajovne som sa ujala ja, hoci som sa veľmi obávala podnikania. Ale myšlienka sa mi páčila, a po problematických začiatkoch som sa postupne naučila, čo a ako treba. V čajovni ponúkajú domáce, ázijské a juhoafrické bylinné sypané čaje. Pani Mária uprednostňuje zelené čaje, ale uspokojí aj hostí, ktorí si radšej pochutnajú na čiernych čajoch. Treba rešpektovať, čo majú radi zákazníci, prízvukuje. S pobavením spomína na prvý, otvárací deň pred siedmimi rokmi, keď v Bratislave čajovne len začínali: Prišli zákazníci s názorom prečo by som si mal dať čaj, veď som zdravý? Alebo máte tu tak pekne, dal by som si červené víno! Čaj si uvarím doma. Alebo ja som čajíčkar, prosím si Lipton! Dnes si už ľudia vedia vybrať, vedia čaje rozoznať, majú o nich oveľa viac informácií. S návštevnosťou sú v čajovni spokojní. Zablúdia sem aj známe osobnosti zo slovenského šoubiznisu, kultúry, novinári Boris Filan, Jana Kirschner, Jožo Ráž, Janko Lehotský, Oľga a Ľubo Feldekovci... dávajú si tu stretnutia, lebo v čajovni je pokoj. Príchodom Adely na scénu (mladšia dcéra pani Banášovej je populárna moderátorka) pribudla aj mladšia generácia. Čajovňu už objavili aj cudzinci, bežne v nej znejú rôzne jazyky, najčastejšie nemčina a angličtina. Jej výhodou, že v jej blízkosti možno bez problémov parkovať. Pri dobrom čaji, príjemnej hudbe, obrázkoch podfarbených jemným humorom, sa rodia aj príjemné diskusie. Jozef Banáš, manžel majiteľky čajovne, známa osobnosť v politickom aj literárnom svete, na otázku šéfredaktorky Henriety Hrubej, aký má názor na Twin City region, povedal: Viedeň veľmi dobre poznám, v rokoch som tam pôsobil ako zástupca veľvyslanca. Nemčina je pre mňa takmer prirodzený jazyk, lebo ako typický Prešporák som vyrastal v trojjazyčnej rodine maďarsko-nemeckoslovenskej. Voľakedy bola Bratislava trojjazyčné mesto a som rád, že teraz znova ožíva cudzími jazykmi. V rámci Európy je Bratislava unikát je jediným mestom, ktoré leží nielen na hranici troch štátov, ale aj troch kultúr germánskej (rakúskej), maďarskej a slovanskej. A toto by mala byť hlavná investícia Bratislavy tri kultúry v jednom! V Kelione sme okrem dobrej vône, dobrého vkusu a príjemného prostredia našli ľudí, vyžarujúcich rodinnú atmosféru. 37 BRATISLAVA CITY Teestube Kelion Guter Geschmack, Wohlgerüche und eine angenehme Atmosphäre Einst ein kleines Häuschen inmitten von Weinbergen, ist es mittlerweile eine hübsche und gemütliche Teestube in einer ruhigen Gegend mit Familienhäusern in einer der angenehmsten Siedlungen westlich von Bratislava Karlova Ves. Das positive Gefühl ermöglichen auch die Leute, die man dort treffen kann die Besitzerin Mária Banášová, ursprünglich Künstlerin, die diesen Platz mit außergewöhnlichem Geschmack und Gefühl eingerichtet hat, dazu das angenehme und flinke Personal, über das die Besitzerin sagt, dass es das A und O eines erfolgreichen Unternehmens ist. Die Idee einer Teestube entstand im Kopf meiner ältesten Tochter, erzählt sie. In unserer Familie haben Kräuter schon immer eine große Rolle gespielt. In den Ferien haben wir gesammelt und im Winter dann getrocknet. Mein Mann und ich haben nur dabei geholfen, meiner Tochter einen Traum zu erfüllen. Als sie nach Prag gegangen ist, habe ich mich der Teestube angenommen, obwohl ich große Angst davor hatte. Aber der Gedanke gefiel mir, und nachdem die Anfangsprobleme überwunden waren, habe ich langsam gelernt, was man tun und wie man es tun muss. Es werden hauseigene, asiatische und südafrikanische lose Kräutertees angeboten. Frau Mária bevorzugt Grünen Tee, aber weiß diejenigen Gäste zufrieden zu stellen, die Schwarzen Tee bevorzugen. Man muss respektieren, was die Gäste mögen, sagt sie. Mit Freude erinnert sie sich an den Eröffnungstag vor sieben Jahren, als es in Bratislava noch gar keine Teestube gab: Es kamen Kunden mit der Meinung: Warum soll ich Tee trinken, ich bin doch gesund? Oder: Schön ist es hier, jetzt hätte ich Lust auf ein Glas Rotwein! Tee kann ich auch zu Hause kochen. Oder auch: Ich bin Teetrinker, bitte einen Lipton! Mittlerweile kennen die Leute sich aus und können die einzelnen Teesorten unterscheiden. Mit der Besucherzahl ist sie sehr zufrieden. Regelmässige Gäste sind auch bekannte Persönlichkeiten aus dem slowakischen Showbusiness, dem Kulturbereich und Journalismus Boris Filan, Jana Kirschner, Jožo Ráž, Janko Lehotský,...- sie treffen sich hier, weil es ruhig ist. Durch ihre jüngste Tochter Adela, eine beliebte Fernsehmoderatorin, ist auch die jüngere Generation vertreten. Ebenso haben Ausländer die kleine Teestube bereits für sich entdeckt und man hört oft Deutsch und Englisch. Ein Vorteil ist auch, dass man problemlos parken kann. Bei gutem Tee, angenehmer Musik, naiver Malerei, unterlegt von freundlichem Humor, entstehen interessante Diskussionen. Jozef Banáš, der Ehemann der Besitzerin, eine bekannte Persönlichkeit in der Politik und Literatur, antwortet auf die Frage der Chefredakteurin Henrieta Hrubá, was er von der Twin City Region hält, folgendermaßen: Wien kenne ich sehr gut. Von war ich dort als Vertreter des Botschafters tätig. Deutsch ist für mich ganz natürlich, denn als typischer Pressburger, bin ich in einer dreisprachigen Familie aufgewachsen deutsch, slowakisch und ungarisch. Bratislava war einstmals eine dreisprachige Stadt und ich bin froh, dass die Sprachen wieder aufleben. Im Rahmen Europas ist Bratislava einzigartig als einzige Stadt liegt sie nicht nur an drei Grenzen, sie weist auch drei Kulturen auf die österreichische, ungarische und slawische. Und das sollte das größte Kapital sein drei Kulturen in einem! Im Kelion haben wir außer Wohlgeruch, gutem Geschmack und angenehmer Umgebung auch Leute gefunden, die eine familiäre Atmosphäre verbreiten. 38 BRATISLAVA CITY Teahouse Kelion Good taste, good smell, positive atmosphere Once a small house in the middle of vineyards, today a stylish teahouse in a quiet family houses surroundings in one of the most convenient Bratislava suburbs west from the city in the Karlova Ves. A positive feeling arising from the atmosphere even more enhance the people who we can encounter here the owner Mária Banášová, originally artist who furnished this place with extraordinary good taste and feeling but also the nice and skilled staff appraised by the owner as alpha and omega of a successful business. Idea to establish a teahouse originated in the head of my older daughter, says Ms Banášová. In our family, we always had good relation to herbs, we collected herbs during our holidays and than let them dry out for winter. My husband and me were only helping to accomplish our daughter s dream. When she afterwards decided to left for Prague it was my turn to take hold of the teahouse though I felt really horrified by the idea of starting a business. Nevertheless, I liked the idea and after a problematic start I have learned step by step what was needed. The teahouse offers domestic, Asian and South African loose leaf herb teas. Ms Banášová prefers green teas, nevertheless the offer shall satisfy also visitors who enjoy the black tea. Our visitors wishes must be respected, says Ms Banášová. With amusement she recalls the first opening day some seven years ago, when there were no teahouses in Bratislava. Some visitors came here asking why should I have tea? I am feeling quite well. I am healthy! Or its so nice here, I would like some red wine! Tea I shall make one the at home. Or I am a tea lover, could you bring me a Lipton please? Today, people know more, they can make their choice, they can tell the difference and have much more information. And the owner is satisfied with number of visitors as well. The regular guests here are popular figures from the Slovak show-business, culture, journalists Boris Filan, Jana Kirschner, Jožo Ráž, Janko Lehotský,... its their usual meeting place, because here they can find peace. With Adela (younger daughter of Ms Banášová who is a popular moderator) came also the younger generation. Also foreigners discovered the teahouse already so foreign languages, primarily German and English, could be heard here quite often. Advantage for the teahouse is also the parking place nearby. In the company of a good tea, pleasant music and naive art pictures tinged with a gentle humour arises also pleasant discussion. Mr Jozef Banáš, husband of the teahouse owner Ms Banášová, a popular personality well known in the political but also literary world answered question of Editor in Chief, Henrieta Hrubá and said concerning the Twin City region: I know Vienna very well, as during the period of I was working there as a ambassador s deputy. For me German is almost natural language because as a typical Pressburgher I was grown in the three-lingual family Hungarian-German-Slovak. Bratislava used to be a threelingual city and I am glad that it is coming alive with foreign languages again. Within the Europe Bratislava is unique it is the only town located not only right at the border of three states but also the three cultures German (Austrian), Hungarian and Slavonic. And this should be also the main Bratislava s investment three cultures in one! Apart from a good smell, good taste and pleasant atmosphere we found people in Kellion who spread a family atmosphere. For Mária Banášová the teahouse is a matter of the heart, she invests to the teahouse her spirit and her feelings and with her kind, human approach she can win your heart as well. 39 twin CITY Mnohí Slováci sa rozhodujú pre bývanie v Rakúsku, Rakúšania sú vo vzťahu k Slovensku ešte stále skeptickí. Hlavné mesto Slovenska prosperuje. Situácia je napätá najmä v oblasti bývania: ceny prenájmov expandujú, kancelárskych priestorov stále nie je dostatok. A zatiaľ čo Bratislava pomaly, ale iste nadobúda obraz modernej metropoly, jej obyvatelia sa čoraz častejšie rozhodujú pre bývanie na vidieku. Neboja sa pritom ani blízkych štátnych hraníc a kupujú pozemky v Rakúsku a Maďarsku. Najväčší záujem majú o rakúske pohraničné obce, ktoré nie sú od Bratislavy príliš vzdialené. Podľa mediálnych správ sa o novosprístupnené stavebné pozemky v rakúskom pohraničí, menovite v Kittsee a Wolfsthale, zaujímajú výhradne Slováci. Okrem stavebných pozemkov je dopyt aj po rodinných a víkendových domoch. Dôvodom narastajúceho záujmu sú ceny pozemkov, ktoré sú v rakúskych pohraničných obciach výrazne nižšie ako v Bratislave. Ešte pred niekoľkými rokmi bola táto prax pre väčšinu Slovákov nepredstaviteľná, dnes významne prispievajú k spoločnému rozvoju Twin City regiónu. Malé obce, ktoré pred viac ako desaťročím ležali na okraji železnej opony, sa dnes dostávajú do centra regiónu so sľubnou budúcnosťou. Východná Európa nie je pre Rakúšanov eldorádo A zatiaľ čo Slováci svojvoľne premiestňujú svoje bydliská do susedných krajín, Rakúšania sa k bývaniu vo východnej Európe stavajú skepticky. Podľa prieskumu rakúskeho trhového inštitútu by odišla za prácou do nového členského štátu EÚ, a teda aj na Slovensko, iba jedna pätina Rakúšanov. S výnimkou vedúcich pozícií v medzinárodných firmách možno na Slovensku iba ťažko nájsť rakúskych zamestnancov. Obchodný radca Rakúskej republiky na Slovensku, Konstantin Bekos, to vysvetľuje skutočnosťou, že slovenské platy na nižších pozíciách nie sú pre Rakúšanov atraktívne. Pre mnohých je veľkou prekážkou jazykový problém, iní majú strach z byrokracie. Závisí od politiky a hospodárstva, či sa vytvoria rámcové podmienky na podporu vzájomnej mobility v Twin City regióne. Besonders ist die Situation im Wohnbereich angespannt: Die Mietspreise explodieren, Büroflächen werden immer knapper. Und während Bratislava langsam aber sicher das Bild einer modernen Metropole annimmt, entscheiden sich ihre Einwohner zunehmend, ins Grüne zu ziehen. Dabei scheuen sie mittlerweile nicht vor den umliegenden Staatsgrenzen und kaufen Grundstücke in Österreich und Ungarn. Besonders österreichische Grenzorte sind wegen ihrer günstigen Lage zu Bratislava beliebt. Laut Medienberichten interessieren sich ausschließlich Slowaken für neu erschlossene Bauplätze in den österreichischen Grenzorten Kittsee und Wolfsthal. Neben Baugrundstücken sind auch Familienund Wochenendhäuser gefragt. Der Grund für die zunehmende Nachfrage sind Grundstückpreise, die in den österreichischen Grenzorten deutlich niedriger sind als in Bratislava. Noch vor wenigen Jahren war diese Praxis für die meisten Slowaken unvorstellbar, nun tragen sie entscheidend zum Zusammenwachsen der Twin City-Region bei. Die kleinen Orte, die vor gut einem Jahrzehnt am Eisernen Vorhang lagen, rücken somit ins Zentrum einer zukunftsträchtigen Region. Osteuropa ist für Österreicher kein Dorado Und während sich die Slowaken mutwillig zeigen, ihre Wohnorte in die Nachbarländer zu verlegen, scheinen die Österreicher richtige Muffel zu sein, wenn es um Osteuropa geht. Laut einer Umfrage des österreichischen market- Instituts könnte sich lediglich ein Fünftel der österreichischen Arbeitsnehmer entscheiden, in einem neuen EU-Land einen Job anzunehmen. So auch in der Slowakei. Außer in den Führungspositionen internationaler Firmen findet man in der Slowakei kaum einen österreichischen Arbeitnehmer. Der österreichische Handelsdelegierte in der Slowakei Konstantin Bekos erklärt das mit der Tatsache, dass die slowakischen Gehälter bei niedrigeren Positionen für die Österreicher einfach nicht attraktiv seien. Für viele stellen Sprachprobleme ein großes Hindernis dar, nicht wenige fürchten sich auch vor bürokratischen Hürden. Es liegt nun an der Politik und Wirtschaft, Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen, die eine gegenseitige Mobilität im Twin City-Raum fördern würde. Mobility in the Twin City Region Constantly Increases From the Periphery to the Centre Many of the Slovaks decide for living in Austria, Austrians are still sceptical as far Slovakia is concerned Slovak Capital city flourishes. The situation is tense especially in the area of housing: the tenancy prices explode while there is still shortage in the area of offices. And while Bratislava is slowly but surely assuming image of a modern metropolis its inhabitants decide more frequently than ever to live in the countryside. In doing so they don t hesitate to approach the nearby state borders and some of them are buying land in Austria and in Hungary. Slovak citizens are mostly interested in the borderline villages located not too far from Bratislava. According to the media news it s exclusively Slovaks who are interested in the newly accessible building sites in the Austrian border area, namely in Kitsee and Wolfstahl. Demanded, apart from the building sites, are also family and weekend houses. This increasing interest is caused by the growing prices for the land, which in the Austrian border villages is substantially lower than in Bratislava. Few years ago such praxis would be unimaginable for majority of the Slovaks, today nevertheless, it represents an outstanding contribution to the common development of the Twin City region. Small villages that were some decade ago located at the periphery of the Iron Curtain, are today getting right to the centre of the region with a really promising future. For the Austrians the Eastern Europe does not mean eldorado. While the Slovaks move their residence to the neighbouring countries, the Austrians keep their sceptical attitude towards the Eastern Europe. According to research by the Austrian Market Institute only one fifth of the Austrian citizens would move to one of the new EU member states and so to Slovakia for example, in order to get the work. With exception of several leading positions in some international firms, there could be only few Austrian employees found in Slovakia. Konstantin Bekos, Commercial Adviser of the Austrian republic to Slovakia explains this situation by the fact that for Austrians, Slovak salaries at lower positions are not attractive. Also language barrier represents a great problem for many of them, the others are horrified by bureaucracy. Projekty z jeho dielne budú aj tento rok vytvárať významnú bratislavskú scénu na poli nezávislej kultúry. Medzi hudobnými podujatiami bude väčší priestor patriť zborovému spevu pozveme vás na medzinárodné festivaly Festa Choralis Bratislava 2007, Slovakia Cantat 2007 alebo na festival sakrálnej hudby Musica Sacra Bratislava. Leopoldovo múzeum predstaví maliarske dielo nositeľa Nobelovej ceny za literatúru Hermanna Hesseho. V marci navštívi Viedeň holandský husľový virtuóz André Rieu, hosťami 33. medzinárodného hudobného festivalu budú New York Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, dirigenti Nikolaus Harnoncourt a Lorin Maazel, ďalších svetových koncertných umelcov privíta už 20. ročník festivalu súčasnej hudby Wien Modern. Viedenská štátna opera uvedie premiéry opier Manon od Julesa Masseneta (marec), Boris Godunov od Modesta Petroviča Musorgského (máj), Prsteň Niebelungov: Walkýra od Richarda Wagnera (december), v máji zaznie v opere podmanivý hlas Placida Dominga. Medzi hviezdami populárnej hudby, ktoré zavítajú do Viedne, budú Shakira, Lionel Richie, Justin Timberlake, Sting. Jún bude patriť už tradične najväčšiemu európskemu open-air festivalu Donauinselfest, začiatok leta džezovému festivalu Jazz Fest Wien, október filmovému festivalu Viennale. Die Metropolen und das KULTURangebot mit den Augen der Programmredakteurin Das Jahr 2007 bedeutet für die großen Kulturstätten in Bratislava einen großen Umbruch das Slowakische Nationaltheater führt im April seine wieder aufgenommenen Premiere der Oper Krútňava von Eugen Suchoň im neuen Gebäude des SND auf, das Theater Nová scená befindet sich bereits im 70. Jahr seines Wirkens und ist auch weiterhin bemüht, den Bratislavaer Theaterzuschauern ein interessantes Repertoire und eine breite Palette der verschiedenen Genres anzubieten. Das Theater 12 besteht seit fünf Jahren, in denen es zu einem beliebten Kulturraum in Bratislava geworden ist. Die Projekte aus seiner Werkstatt geben auch dieses Jahr wieder die Bühne frei für interessante Stücke im Bereich der unabhängigen Kultur. Bei den musikalischen Veranstaltungen wird es mehr Raum für den Chorgesang geben wir laden Sie ein zum Festival Choralis Bratislava 2007, Slovakia Cantat 2007 und zum Festival der sakralen Musik, Musica Sacra Bratislava. Jahr das sportgesellschaftliche Ereignis des Nationalen Devín - Bratislava Laufs. Im Oktober wird es interessant für die Freunde der Kynologie, wenn Bratislava zum Gastgeber für die Weltmeisterschaft der WUSV (Weltunion der Schäferhundvereine) wird.
