1 LONWoRKS Compatible Controllers Manual Product Bulletin Issue Date 1001 RCM Room Command Module The RCM Room Command Module is designed for use with LONMARK compliant space comfort controllers such as the TCU fan coil unit and VMA variable air volume box controllers from Johnson Controls. A keypad and LCD display on the front of the module allow the room occupant to view and change the operating parameters of the connected controller, including the space temperature setpoint and fan speed. The occupant can also request the temporary occupied (bypass) mode during unoccupied or standby periods, and the current operating mode is shown by a green LED indicator and on the LCD display. The RCM connects directly to the LONWORKS network and complies with the LONMARK interoperability guidelines for sharing data with other LONMARK compliant network devices. It is available with FTT-10 free topology transceivers or LPT link power transceivers, for a twisted-pair physical network configuration. 2 E nvironmental and Comfort Data for the Occupant The room command module can be configured to display one of the following values on a default display page when the occupant is not requesting any other data: Space temperature setpoint Space temperature Time of day (from LONWORKS network) If enabled for display on the module, the other values can also be requested by pressing the page key. When the data is available from the network or the connected controller, the occupant can also view: Outdoor temperature Fan speed ( or 0-100% variable) The following data is always shown on the default display page: Fan status Heating/cooling active Occupancy mode Off mode (window open) Condensation warning (chilled ceiling) Manual override active The occupied status of the space is also shown by a green LED on the face of the module. By configuration, the display of space temperature, time of day, outdoor temperature and fan speed can be suppressed when not required or not available. C ontrolling Comfort and the Environment The room command module can also be configured to allow the occupant to adjust or override operating parameters of the connected controller. The current value of an operating parameter must be available from the controller to enable the action by the occupant. Temporary occupancy button Outside of the normal occupancy periods, in the evening or on the weekend for example, one touch on the temporary occupancy button will give the occupant comfort conditions for a set period of time. An LED above the button indicates that the occupied (comfort) mode is active. Set point adjust The set point of the controller can be adjusted within the range of +/- 3 C or within a range of values such as 15 to 25 C, specified in configuration properties, using the arrow keys on the face of the module. Fan speed manual override When the fan speed is being displayed the user can press the arrow keys to increase or decrease the fan speed, and the manual override symbol is displayed to confirm the override condition. Pressing the release key cancels the override. Occupancy mode override By selecting the occupancy display page the user can press the arrow keys to manually override the occupancy mode. Pressing the release key cancels the override. Centralized lock-out and reset With a command over the network from a central control station, all user override functions can be locked out and manual overrides reset. 2 Product Bulletin RCM Room Command Module

3 C onfiguration Options for Customized Control Depending on the use of the room or the type of building, the requirements for display and override will vary. The RCM has the following configuration options for these different applications. Select default display Enable space temperature display Enable fan speed display and override Enable occupancy override Set temporary occupancy period Select temperature units ( C or F) Select 24- or 12-hour time display Set back light time out In a standalone application, a user-owned apartment, for example, all features might be enabled. In an office environment with centralized monitoring and control, only the display options may be enabled. In a hotel room functions may be limited to temperature set point and fan speed adjust with an automatic return to default settings when the room is vacated. With the Comm Pro tool from Johnson Controls a record of all parameter changes can be stored in memory or on diskette and can be downloaded to multiple room command modules in one operation. As the controller is fully LONMARK compliant, it may be connected to any LONWORKS network segment using FTT10 or LPT10 transceivers and configured to communicate with a compatible space comfort controller on the network using any LONWORKS compliant network management tool. Once configured, commissioned, and connected to a network, the network inputs and outputs may be monitored and the inputs commanded from a Metasys operator workstation or other LONWORKS compatible supervisory device. The control variables and configuration parameters that are available for interoperability with other LONWORKS compatible devices on the network are listed in tables 3, 4 and 5. 6 I ntegrated Room Control At the local room level, the room command module communicates the space temperature and user comfort preferences to other LONMARK compliant control devices on the LONWORKS network and receives environmental data for display such as the time of day or outside air temperature. Normally the room command module communicates with a space comfort temperature controller that commands the heating and cooling devices in the room. The controller can also send a positioning signal to a sun-blind controller to reflect the sun s energy when the space temperature is above the comfort setpoint as set on the room command module. By pressing the temporary occupied button on the module the user can send an occupied signal to a lighting controller to enable the lighting for a limited period of time, or the user can override the occupancy mode for a longer period if the module is enabled for override. Overrides can be cancelled locally or remotely. Integrated room control provides a fully coordinated system to control the local environment for occupant comfort, using natural sun energy when possible and conserving all sources of generated energy when the room is not occupied. O pen Communications and Interoperability with LONWORKS The LONWORKS communication capability of the room command module means that it can be used with a LONWORKS compatible controller and integrated into a LONWORKS network in your facility. LONWORKS is an open standard for field communications, and interoperability with other LONWORKS compatible devices is assured by the LONMARK Interoperability Guidelines. Using the LONWORKS technology in the Metasys system allows you to integrate third party controllers and devices into the facility-wide management system. E ase of Installation The room command module has a separable base with wiring terminals. The base is installed first and the power and network wiring can be completed and checked before installing the electronic circuits that are located in the room module cover. This procedure provides the easiest and safest way to install the control system and avoids accidental damage to the electronic circuits when being mounted in the room on the construction site. A full range of wall and panel mounting kits are available for the room command module. C olour Options The room command module is available in two colour designs. The all white option is recommended for plain white finished walls and the other design with an off-white cover and gray base is recommended for other colour or patterned wall finishes. 6 Product Bulletin RCM Room Command Module

Tools Needed flat-head screwdrivers (3mm and 5 mm) drill, bits, and appropriate 4mm screws and plugs pointed tool (available from Johnson Controls, Ordering Code TM ) Mounting See Figure 1: Room Command Module The RCM Room Command Module is designed for wall mounting in the room to be controlled. It should be located where the occupant can easily read the LCD display and use the keypad. If the built-in NTC temperature sensor is being used to measure room temperature, the module should be placed where the temperature is representative of the general room conditions. Cold or warm air draughts, radiant heat and direct sunlight should be avoided. Place some insulating material in the wiring conduit to prevent the introduction of air from outside the room. 2 Installation Guide RCM Room Command Module

12 The installation of electrical wiring must conform to local codes and should be carried out by authorized personnel only. Users should ensure that all Johnson Controls products are used safely and without risk to health or property. See Figure 2: Removing Cover from Base Remove the base of the module from the cover by inserting a pointed tool into the small hole at the center top of the cover. While pressing down gently, prise the base away from the cover. As the two parts separate, remove the tool and continue to pull the cover away from the base until the cover is free. See Figure 3: Module Base Mount the base on the wall to cover the electrical output and secure with at least two screws. For other mounting options, see ordering codes and refer to the corresponding installation sheets. Wiring! CAUTION: Electronic circuits are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Take suitable precautions. See Figure 4: Wiring to the Room Command Module Before connecting or disconnecting any wires, ensure that all power supplies have been switched off and all wires are potential-free to prevent equipment damage and avoid electrical shock. Terminations are made on terminal block TB2 in the base of the module, which is accessible after removing the cover from the base. The screw terminals accept up to 1.5 mm 2 (16 AWG) wires, and Figure 4 shows the terminal block connections. Keep low voltage wiring separated from power line voltage wiring. Do not run wiring close to transformers or high frequency generating equipment. Complete and verify all wiring connections before applying power to the module. Use the Net A and Net B screw terminals to connect the LONWORKS network wiring. Net A and Net B are interchangeable because the twisted-pair LONWORKS network is not polarity sensitive. However, it is recommended that you maintain the same polarity between similar devices. If shielded cable is used for the network wiring, connect the shields together and insulate with tape. Do not use the ground/earth terminal ( ) for cable shields. Connect the device s ground/earth terminal ( ) to a clean electrical ground point. This connection provides a discharge path for any high voltage interference that could otherwise damage the LONWORKS network. Installation Guide RCM Room Command Module 3

13 If the RCM is the FTT10 free-topology model, connect the 24V AC supply voltage to the terminals marked 24V AC and 24V COM (common). If the RCM is the LPT link-power model, leave these terminals unused because the module receives its supply voltage from the LONWORKS network. Optional Service Module Socket See Figure 5: Service Tool Cable The service tool connector is accessed by sliding the panel upwards, as shown in Figure 1. You gain access to the LONWORKS network by plugging the cable shown in Figure 5 into the service tool socket. The open Net A and Net B wires of the service tool cable can be connected to any suitable device capable of accessing the LONWORKS network, such as a laptop computer running the Comm Pro software. Es sollte so angebracht werden, dass die LCD-Anzeige leicht abgelesen und die Tastatur komfortabel benutzt werden kann. Wenn zur Messung der Raumtemperatur der eingebaute NTC-Temperaturfühler verwendet wird, sollte der Montageort so gewählt werden, dass er die zu messende Temperatur repräsentiert. Vermeiden Sie Montageorte, auf die Störeinflüsse wie größere Temperaturschwankungen durch Luftzug, Heizungsluft oder direkte Sonneneinstrahlung wirken. Dichten Sie auch die Kabeleinführung ab, um das Eindringen von Luft von außerhalb des Raums zu verhindern. Die elektrischen Anschlüsse müssen den örtlichen Vorschriften entsprechen und sollten nur von autorisiertem Personal durchgeführt werden. Techniker sollten sicherstellen, dass alle Produkte von Johnson Controls sicher benutzt werden können und von ihnen keine Gefahr für Menschen und Gebäude ausgeht. Siehe Abb. 2: Gehäuse vom Grundrahmen abnehmen Den Grundrahmen können Sie wie folgt vom Gehäuse abnehmen: Setzen Sie das Spezialwerkzeug TM in das mittlere kleine Loch oben auf dem Gehäuse. Drücken Sie das Werkzeug leicht nach unten und spreizen Sie Gehäuse und Grundrahmen auf. Sobald sich das Gehäuse von dem Grundrahmen löst, entfernen Sie das Werkzeug und ziehen das Gehäuse vollständig ab. Siehe Abb. 3: Grundrahmen des RCM Montieren Sie den Grundrahmen über der Kabelöffnung an der Wand, und befestigen Sie ihn mit mindestens zwei Schrauben. Informationen über weitere Montageoptionen und die benötigten Zubehörteile finden Sie im Abschnitt Bestellzeichen und den jeweiligen Installationsanweisungen. 17 Anschluss! ACHTUNG: Elektronische Schaltkreise reagieren empfindlich auf elektrostatische Entladungen. Ergreifen Sie entsprechende Vorsichtsmaßnahmen. Siehe Abb. 4: Anschluss des RCM Bevor Sie Drähte anschließen oder lösen, müssen Sie sicherstellen, dass die Stromversorgung ausgeschaltet ist und alle Drähte potentialfrei sind, um Schäden am System und Elektroschocks zu vermeiden. Die Anschlüsse erfolgen über den Klemmenblock TB2 im Grundrahmen des Geräts. Nehmen Sie den Grundrahmen wie oben beschrieben vom Gehäuse ab, um Zugang dazu zu erhalten. Die Schraubklemmen eignen sich für Kabel mit einem maximalen Durchmesser von 1,5 mm 2. Abbildung 4 zeigt die Anschlüsse am Klemmenblock. Aus Sicherheitserwägungen sollten Sie Schwachstromleitungen getrennt von Starkstromleitungen verlegen. Verlegen Sie Zuführungen nicht in unmittelbarer Nähe von Leistungsfrequenzumformern oder Hochfrequenzgeräten. Schließen Sie alle Verdrahtungs- und Anschlussarbeiten ab, bevor Sie das Gerät an die Stromversorgung anschließen. Verwenden Sie die Schraubklemmen Net A und Net B, um das Kabel des LONWORKS-kompatiblen Netzwerks anzuschließen. Im LONWORKS-kompatiblen Netzwerk mit verdrillten Zweidrahtleitungen braucht keine Polarität beachtet zu werden, sodass die Klemmen vertauschbar sind. Es wird jedoch empfohlen, bei ähnlichen Geräten stets die gleiche Polarität zu verwenden. Wenn für das Netzwerk geschirmte Kabel verwendet werden, schließen Sie die Schirmleiter gemeinsam an und isolieren sie mit Isolierband. Schließen Sie keine Schirmleiter an die Erdklemme ( ) an. Verbinden Sie die mit gekennzeichnete Erdklemme mit einem sauberen elektrischen Erdungspunkt. Diese Verbindung ermöglicht die Entladung einer hohen Interferenzspannung, die den Regler oder das LONWORKS-kompatible Netzwerk beschädigen könnte. Verbinden Sie bei einem RCM mit FTT-10-Transceiver die Leitungen der 24-V AC-Stromversorgung mit den mit 24V AC und 24V COM gekennzeichneten Klemmen. Bei einem RCM mit LPT- Link-Power-Transceiver bleiben diese Klemmen unbenutzt, weil die Stromversorgung des Geräts über das LONWORKS-kompatible Netzwerk erfolgt. 8 Installationsanweisung Raumbediengerät RCM

18 Optionaler Service-Tool- Anschluss Siehe Abb. 5: Servicekabel Bei Geräten mit Servicemodul-Anschluss wird die Anschlussbuchse durch Hochschieben der Abdeckplatte zugänglich (siehe Abbildung 1). Wenn Sie das in Abbildung 5 gezeigte Kabel mit dem Anschluss verbinden, können Sie darüber auf das LONWORKS-kompatible Netzwerk zugreifen. Die Leiter Net A und Net B am anderen Kabelende können mit jedem geeigneten Gerät verbunden werden, das auf das LONWORKS-kompatible Netzwerk zugreifen kann, beispielsweise mit einem Laptop-Computer, auf dem die Software Comm Pro installiert ist.
