2 FOREWORD VORWORT As suppliers and automakers in a very complex industry, we are expected to be leaders in creating all-wheel drive technology that responds to the evolving needs of our markets. This year s European All-Wheel Drive Congress (EAWD) will address the continuous challenges we have in balancing the short-term demands of a very diverse consumer base and the long-term evolution of technologies for AWD system architecture resulting from the autonomous vehicle and electrification trends. The shift toward the electric vehicle (EV) architecture is one solution that is well-suited to support autonomous driving features, and means that we need to respond with answers regarding powertrain electrification. How can we optimize the ICE in the short-term to address fuel consumption and emissions requirements, and how do we prepare for the potential elimination of the ICE? Der diesjährige European All-Wheel Drive Congress (EAWD) richtet seinen Fokus auf die ständigen Herausforderungen, mit denen wir uns in unserer täglichen Arbeit konfrontiert sehen. Dabei geht es um das Ausbalancieren sehr unterschiedlicher, kurzfristiger Anforderungen eines stark diversifizierten Kundenstamms und um die langfristige Entwicklung von Technologien für Allrad-Systemarchitekturen, die aus den Trends autonomes Fahren und Elektrifizierung resultieren. Der Wechsel hin zu einer rein elektrischen Fahrzeugarchitektur unterstützt Features für autonomes Fahren und erwartet Lösungen zur Elektrifizierung des Antriebsstrangs. Wie können wir den Verbrennungsmotor optimieren, um die Vorgaben hinsichtlich Treibstoffverbrauch und Emissionen zu erfüllen? Wie bereiten wir uns auf den potenziellen Wegfall des Verbrennungsmotors vor? The EAWD Congress will address technical questions like these, and stimulate a debate regarding the future of AWD. During the vehicle demonstration portion, we will experience the fun factor and the performance benefits consumers enjoy, although we should ask ourselves, Are we prepared to give them up for efficiency and autonomy? Built in 1969 and formerly known as Österreichring, it hosted the Formula One Austria Grand Prix from 1970 to 1987 and from 1997 to After being renovated and modified, it was re-opened in 2011 and nowadays hosts a variety of national and international motorsport events, such as the DTM Series or the Truck Race Trophy. In 2014, also Formula One returned to the Red Bull Ring. Offering various on- and offroad tracks as well as a conference area, the Red Bull Ring is located in Spielberg, Austria, around 45 minutes away from Graz. Free shuttle buses will circulate on a regular basis to allow participants a comfortable travel between Spielberg and Graz or Graz Airport on Congress Day 2.
