AT LA N T I C Atlantic Der Name sei dann schnell gefunden:»atlantic«, der stürmische Ozean. Zugleich tragendes Medium in Transportund Tourismusangelegenheiten. In Detailfragen habe die Idee Pate gestanden, allgemein gültige Klassifizierungsmerkmale zu übergehen und moderne Formen zu zeichnen, etwa die anstrichlosen, geschrägten Oberlängen der Gemeinen. Ziel sei es gewesen, eine Antiqua inklusive Kursiven, Halbfetten und Kapitälchen, also die Basisausstattung einer praktikablen Satzschrift zu schaffen. Es folgte die Erarbeitung einer Grotesken in gleicher Ausstattung. Weitere Ausbaustufen seien in Planung, etwa eine Black-Version der Atlantic Sans. Zur Auflockerung entstand zwischendurch auch die amorphe Atlantic SeaWashed, bei der jedes Zeichen noch eine Minimalreferenz zur Atlantic Serif behalten sollte. Im Entwurfsstadium befindet sich noch ein drittes großes Familienmitglied, die Atlantic Slapstick. Sie soll mit offeneren Formen und konstruierten Zeichen aufwarten und ebenfalls in Komplettausstattung angeboten werden, also Regular, Italic und Small Caps in mehreren Fettgraden. Damit sei man auch schon bei Ekke Wolfs Vorstellung des Einsatzgebietes: Mengensatz mit der Möglichkeit zur typographischen Durchgestaltung sowie Werbung und Corporate Design.
AT LA N T I C Atlantic A name was found quickly:»atlantic«, the stormy ocean. At the same time the supporting medium in transportation and touristic matters. In questions of detail inspiration came with the idea of forgoing generally accepted classification attributes and of sketching modern forms, as evidenced in the beveled ascenders of the lower case characters, devoid of any up- or downstrokes. The goal was to create a Roman serif typeface including italics, diverse bold weights and small caps; that is, the basic suite of a practicable composition typeface. Thereafter followed the creation of a sans serif along the same lines. Further additions are planned: For instance, a black version of the Atlantic Sans. To loosen the concept up a bit, the amorphous Atlantic SeaWashed, in which each character strives to maintain a minimal reference to the Atlantic Serif, was developed in the meantime. A third, extensive family member, the Atlantic Slapstick, is presently in the developmental stage. It will strive to make its mark with more open forms and constructed characters and will also be offered with a complete suite, e.g., regular, italic and small caps in various font weights. And with that we have arrived at Ekke Wolf s conception of the operational area: Text composition with the potential of complete typographical management as well as advertising and corporate design.
