In Kettenis spricht man Deutsch, obwohl das Dorf seit 1920 zu Belgien gehört. Viele Dorfbewohner sprechen auch Holländisch, weil wir weniger als 50 Kilometer von den Niederlanden entfernt wohnen. Oft macht meine Familie einen Tagesausflug dorthin. Für uns ist eine Reise ins Ausland ganz normal. Kettenis liegt in der Nähe von einer Universitätsstadt. An dieser Universität möchte ich eine Ausbildung als Grundschullehrerin machen. Das ist günstig, weil ich zu Hause wohnen bleiben kann. Kettenis ist ganz sympathisch. Wir haben einen bekannten Naturpark. Altmodisch ist Kettenis nicht Touristen können preiswert ein E-Bike mieten und zu Belgiens größtem Trinkwasserreservoir fahren. Ich gehe im Winter mit meiner Schwägerin in der Gegend skilaufen, und im Sommer wandere ich oft mit ihr und anderen Verwandten. Die Schokoladenprodukte, die man in Kettenis produziert, finde ich besonders lecker. Aber der größte Arbeitgeber ist die Kabel-Fabrik. Sie hat rund 900 Arbeitnehmer.
