2 Der internationale Wettbewerb Solar Decathlon About the international competition Solar Decathlon bedeutendster und anspruchsvollster Wettbewerb im solaren und nachhaltigen Bauen zwischen Unis weltweit - most important and challenging competition in solar and sustainable building Auslober: US-Department of Energy, Organisation: National Renewable Energies Laboratory Invited by the US-Department of Energy (DOE), organized by the Nat. Renewable Energies Laboratory Entwicklung eines innovativen, zukunftsfähigen und experimentellen Wohn-Prototypen mit dem Standard Plusenergiehaus ; zugleich auch kostengünstig, energieeffizient und attraktiv The project aims to develop an innovative, sustainable living and experimental prototype with the standard "plus energy house, that is also cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. Gewinner des Wettbewerbs ist jenes Team, das am besten Leistbarkeit, Attraktivität für den Nutzer und herausragendes Design mit optimaler Energieerzeugung und maximaler Effizienz verbindet. 3 StudentINNen-Wettbewerb A Students Competition zwei Jahre für Planung und Umsetzung des Bauprojektes - two years for planning and implementation of the construction project Neben Gestaltung und Energieeffizienz spielen die Organisation und Finanzierung des Projektes eine wesentliche Rolle. Besides design and energy efficiency play the organization and financing of the project, a significant role. Der Wettbewerb endet mit einer zweiwöchigen, öffentlichen Endausscheidung der besten 20 Teams in Irvine, Kalifornien (südlich von L.A.). The competition will end with a two-week, public finalist of the best 20 teams in Irvine, California (south of LA). Hier treten die Colleges und Universitäten mit ihren solarbetriebenen Wohnhäusern gegeneinander an und werden in zehn Disziplinen bewertet. Here, the colleges and universities compete with their solar-powered houses compete against each other and will be evaluated in ten disciplines.

4 Wer ist dabei? 45 StudentINNen Das TEAM AUSTRIA ist das erste österreichische Team beim Solar Decathlon. Österreich hat sich neben weltweit bekannten Unis wie Stanford, Caltech University oder SciArc qualifiziert. The TEAM AUSTRIA is the first Austrian team at the Solar Decathlon, next to world famous universities such as Stanford University or the Caltech University (3 and 1 in the ranking of the world's best universities of technology). Interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit von Universitäten, Firmen und Organisationen ist für den Erfolg wesentlich und wurde vom Auslober dezidiert empfohlen. 5 Design-Philosophie / Mission Simple, excellent, smart - einfach, gut und intelligent exzellent - Our house of the future performs at the highest level possible in every respect. schön / großzügig - The architectural design provides a wonderful interior space with interesting views inside and out that create a sense of living that is open well beyond what could be expected from such a small dwelling. vorgefertigt / anpassungsfähig - It is built using a system of prefabricated, lightweight construction components that can be combined in different ways to adapt to different people s needs. ökologisch/ ecologic - The flexibility of the concept is demonstrated in a manual of instructive application scenarios. Virtually all the construction materials employed stem from renewable and/or easily recyclable resources to account for sustainability factors that impact the environment before and after its operative lifecycle. Standard Plusenergiehaus -During its lifecycle as a home, it not only ensures a healthy, comfortable, and enjoyable environment for those who actively live in it, but also generates at least enough energy to fully power the daily lifestyle of its inhabitants, including their needs for mobility (in the form of e-bikes), heating and cooling, as well as warm water (through a highly efficient, compact service unit coupled with a solar cooling system).
