3 Umschlagbild: ZnO Sunflowers mineralized on functionalized silicon surface. This special morphology is achieved when ZnO mineralizes on DNA fictionalized silicon substrates. A silicon wafer was firstly rendered hydrophobic by self-assembly of silane molecules with vinyl anchor groups. At appropriate ph, this surface has high binding specificity for the 5 -ends of DNA molecules, where free protonated phosphates are present. Thus, calf thymus DNA molecules as weak acids were attached to the alkenes functionalized surface by electrophilic addition. Finally, the method of chemical bath deposition was applied and ZnO microstructures were produced by thermohydrolysis of 30 mm Zn(NO 3 ) 2.6H 2 O in the presence of 1wt% NH 3. The investigation of the influence of different bioorganic additives as structure directing agents during the thermohydrolysis of zinc salts are of great importance for the formation of new key materials included in novel functional devices.
