1 Newest Generation of the BS2 Corrosion/Warning and Measurement System BS2 System Description: BS2 CorroDec 2G is a cable and energyless system module range for detecting corrosion, humidity and prevailing potential. It is an early warning system that distinctly detecting corrosion or monitoring other damaging influences before it affect the reinforcement steel. In the following the different sensor types are described: Reading device Type A Cable- and energyless corrosion sensor

2 Type B Potential sensor Type C Conductivity/Humidity sensor 1.1. Type A Cable- and energyless corrosion sensor: The early warning sensor during or after concreting is attached by ordinary steel wire directly above the reinforcement steel (standard method in concrete construction). The body of the sensor is surrounded by a special wire, which will be destroyed by corrosion influences. Reading of data can be done conveniently by a small hand held, cable and energyless reading device. After the monitoring with the reading device, the user of the measurement system will get the following data: - Temperature within the concrete structure - Sensor wire 1. Level OK Yes/No - Sensor wire 2. Level OK Yes/No Special sensor solutions for concrete structures are available up to 25m of thickness. The functioning of the sensors can be checked during, before and after the process of concreting.

3 1.2. Type B Potential sensor: BS2 Sicherheitssysteme GmbH This type of sensor measures the potential prevailing above the reinforcement steel. The sensor is made up of a combination of precious an non-precious metals. It is attached to the reinforcement steel in the same way as sensor type A. Special designs as described for sensor type A are likewise available. Data reading is same as for type A, i. e. by a small, hand-held reading device. The system allows measuring of potential between + 100mV and 1,000mV. In addition to this, the temperature is also gauged. 3.3 Type C Conductivity/Humidity sensor: By this sensor type both, the electric conductivity and the temperature, are measured. The sensor consists of 2 stainless steel rings and is attached to the reinforcement steel just like sensor types A and B. Special designs as described for sensor types A and B are likewise available. Data reading is same as for type A and B, i. e. by a small, hand-held reading device. Installation of sensor Type C Example: Data reading by means of sensor Type C

4 3.4. Reader: The CorroDec sensor range is based upon the RFID principle. This being the case, the sensors don t need cabling or energy. Supply of energy comes from the RFID field of the reading device. By activating the magnetic field of the sensor, data transmission from the sensor to the reading device starts within 3 up to 5 seconds. The reading device meets following requirements: - high mechanical sturdiness - one-hand operation possible - standard operating distance for the reading device up to 10 cm - immediate indication of critical circumstances (sensor actuated/sensor OK or not OK etc.) - saving of gathered data (of up to 1,000 sensors) - wireless transmission of gathered data (WLAN) to control software (see below) The functionality of every sensor type can be checked by means of the reading device at a moment s notice: before, during and after installation. Special designs, i. e. for increasing the operation range of the reading device (max. up to 40 cm) or regarding to the design of the sensors (i. e. waterproof design) are realizable. Sample: Monitoring Software Optionally a remote scanning and connection to a control center etc. is avaible based on another BS2 system.
