2 Object Generator The object generator is usefull tool to replicate features in Ansys Mechanical since the version In use with named selections, automatic build of elements becomes an easy task In this presentation, we will show you how to model 82 screws using fixed joints and the object generator

3 The model The model is made of two parts: Box Cover Each of them has 82 holes cover Holes of the box are 6mm diameter Holes of the cover are 6.2mm diameter box - 3 -

4 Named Selection There are different ways of using the named selection. We will see here is the logic selection method going through the worksheet 1. Right click on your model in the structure tree Insert Named Selection 2. Change the Scoping Method of the created Named Selection by Worksheet - 4 -

5 Selection based on holes diameters 3. Right click on the first line of the Worksheet Add Row One of the method is based on the different hole size to make two named selections 4. Fill the fields as followed 5. Click on Generate 6. Right click on the created Selection in the Structure Tree and rename it as Holes_box - 5 -

7 Selection based on holes diameters An other method is to select all the holes and remove the ones which are not at certain position Y location. 4. Fill the fields as followed 5. Click on Generate 6. Right click on the created Selection in the Structure Tree and rename it as Holes_box 7. Make a second Named Selection named Holes_cover with the following properties The Named Selection section in the structure tree should look identical as on page

8 Fixed Joint Creation In the following steps, we will show you how to create one fixed joint to model the first screw 1. Right click in the Structure Tree on Connections - 8 -

9 Fixed Joint Creation 1. Right click in the Structure Tree on Connections Insert Joint 2. Define the fixed joint by selecting the Reference scope on one hole of the box 3. Define the Mobile Scope to the corresponding face on the cover - 9 -

10 Object Generator In the following steps, we will show you how to replicate the created fixed joint. 1. In the Structure Tree, select the created joint 2. Click on the Object Generator button Each hole on the cover side is 4mm away in Y-direction from the hole on the box side 3. Fill the fields of the Object Generator wizard with the following values 4. Click on Generate

11 Results As a result, you will get one separate fixed joint for each screw model

12 Results Pull all the selected joints in the structure tree to the Solution bloc, it will automatically create a probe for each joint displaying their reaction forces. Solve the model Select Solution in the Structure Tree and click on Worksheet Click on List Result Summary Right click on Solution in the Structure Tree Export As a result you will get a text file with all the reaction forces for the 82 screws, plus the other requested results
