Rieding, Oskar: Contract signed by the Violinist Budapest, 1897. nov. 1 page, brown ink, 295x230 mm Folded, holes, torn. 35,- Rieding was born in Stettin, he attended first the recently founded Academy of Musical Arts in Berlin, and later the Leipzig Conservatory. At the end of the 1860s, he moved to Vienna, where in 1871, the conductor Hans Richter, at that time Musical Director of the National Opera House in Pest, appointed Rieding as leader of the orchestra. He remained there for thirty-two years, and composed some violin concertos and many drill pieces for violin and piano. After his retirement in 1904, he lived in Cilli (today Slovenia) until his death in 1918.

He entered the service of Prince Esterházy in November 1780 and played in the orchestra under Haydn. In 1785 he became chamber musician of Count Erdődy in Pressburg (now Bratislava). The following year he travelled to Brussels and proceeded from there to Paris. There he made his début at the Concert Spirituel during the Christmas season 1786 and his style was warmly acclaimed as new, full of expression and sensitivity (Mercure de France). Soon he became one of the city s most popular performers. Viotti thought highly of him and engaged him as leader of the Théâtre de Monsieur from its opening in January 1789.
