Mit der neuen Euro-Top CONNECT, die mit einem speziellen Dichteinsatz versehen ist, lassen sich Kabel mit vormontierten Steckern besonders problemlos und schnell fixieren. Dank dieses neuen Innendichtrings gelingt die Aufnahme von großen Steckern mit einer Diagonale von bis zu 18mm bei gleichzeitiger Klemmung von dünnen Kabeln ab einer Stärke von 3mm. Teure Sonderlösungen wie teilbare Verschraubungen oder besondere Stecksysteme werden dadurch überflüssig. Darüber hinaus stellt die Kabelverschraubung eine hoch abdichtende Montage sicher und verfügt über eine sehr gute Zugentlastung. Für die verschiedensten Steckervarianten ist die Euro-Top CONNECT universell einsetzbar. Das gilt sowohl für kleinere Varianten (beispielsweise M8), die hauptsächlich in der Elektrotechnik verwendet werden, als auch für größere Steckerversionen wie USB oder RJ-45. Die RST-Kabelverschraubung CONNECT findet nicht nur Anwendung in der Elektrotechnik. Die Materialvarianten Polyamid, Messing (vernickelt) und Edelstahl sorgen für eine Einsetzbarkeit in nahezu allen Anwendungsbereichen, so auch im Schaltschrankbau oder in der Windkraft- und Solartechnik. Erhältlich ist die CONNECT in den Größen M25 x 1,5 (Polyamid) und M32 x 1,5 (Messing vernickelt, Edelstahl). Die Schutzarten IP 66, IP 68 und IP 69K werden nachweislich erfüllt. The Euro-Top CONNECT is universally deployable for a wide range of different connectors. This applies both to small connectors (e.g. M8), which are primarily used in electrical engineering, and to larger connectors such as USB and RJ-45. The CONNECT screwed cable gland from RST is not only used in electrical engineering, however. Being available in a variety of materials, e.g. polyamide, brass (nickelplated) and stainless steel, makes it suitable for use in virtually all fields of application, including in switch cabinet construction as well as in wind-power and solar technology. The CONNECT screwed cable gland is available in the sizes M25 x 1.5 (polyamide) and M32 x 1.5 (nickel-plated brass, stainless steel). The enclosure ratings IP 66, IP 68 and IP 69K are verifiably certified. 4

Artikel / Article D1 D2 H VPE / PU lose/loose Die Rabe-System-Technik GmbH hat zum Schutz vor Kondenswasser in Gehäusen ein atmungsaktives Druckausgleichselement (DAE) entwickelt, das sich durch einfachste Handhabung, universelle Einsetzbarkeit und eine maximale uftdurchsatzrate bei gleichzeitig hoher IP-Schutzart auszeichnet. Kondenswasser bildet sich schnell in besonders dichten Gehäusen, da die uftfeuchtigkeit nicht entweichen kann. Auch Temperaturschwankungen im Inneren führen zu Kondenswasserbildung die Folge sind Kurzschlüsse oder ein kompletter Geräteausfall durch den Wegfall des IP-Schutzes. Dem beugt das neue Einsteck-DAE vor: Das Druckausgleichselement passt den Innendruck geschlossener elektronischer und elektrotechnischer Bauteile dem Umgebungsdruck an und reduziert somit Kosten für komplizierte Gehäusetechniken und aufwendige Dichtungen. Auch die Wartungskosten lassen sich so erheblich minimieren. Wesentlicher Bestandteil des Einsteck-Druckausgleichselements ist eine gasdurchlässige aber flüssigkeitsundurchlässige PTFE-Membran auf Polyester-Trägergewebe aus dem Hause Donaldson. Aufgrund der bewährten pilzförmigen Kontur eines Verschlussstopfens kann das DAE in jede handelsübliche Kabelverschraubung eingesetzt werden, die die gewünschte Schutzart erfüllt und einen Klemmbereich von 12 mm einschließt. Der Temperaturbereich von -30 C bis +100 C erlaubt einen breit gefächerten Einsatz sowohl indoor als auch outdoor. Durch die besondere Anordnung der inneren Strömungskanäle in Verbindung mit dem zum Patent angemeldetem abyrinthsystem, das äußere Einwirkungen auf die atmungsaktive Membran verhindert, kann ein maximaler uftdurchsatz trotz kleiner Bauweise erreicht werden. Die Schutzarten IP66 und IP69k (Strahlwasser / Dampfstrahl) wurden vom staatlich geprüften Institut IBExU in Freiburg mit dem Bericht IB /1 bestätigt. Diese Ergebnisse erlauben in der Praxis die Anwendung in neun von zehn Gehäusen. Weiterer Vorteil des Einsteck-DAEs ist die einfache Montage: Am Gehäuse wird keine Bohrung mit ungewöhnlichen Abmessungen benötigt, je nach Klemmbereich der Trägerverschraubung können Gewinde M20 oder M25 bzw. PG13,5 oder PG16 genutzt werden. Rabe-System-Technik GmbH has developed a breathable pressure compensation element (PCE) for protection against condensation in housings which is distinguished by its easy handling, universal applicability and maximum air throughput rate with a high IP protection type. In particularly tight housings condensation forms easily because the air humidity cannot escape. Temperature variations inside also lead to condensation and the consequences are short circuits or even complete device failure on account of loss of the IP protection. This is prevented by the new insertion PCE: The pressure compensation element matches the internal pressure of enclosed electronic or electrical engineering components to the environment pressure and in this way reduces costs of complicated housing constructions or expensive seals. The maintenance costs can also be reduced considerably. An important component of the push-in pressure compensation element is a gas-permeable but liquid-impermeable PTFE membrane applied onto a polyester substrate fabric made by Donaldson. Thanks to the tried-and-tested mushroom-shape of the stopper, the pressure compensation element can be inserted into any conventional cable gland fulfilling the desired protection class and including a clamping area of 12 mm. The temperature range from -30 C to +100 C allows a wide ranging applications both indoors and out of doors. On account of the special arrangement of the internal flow channels, in conjunction with the labyrinth system for which patent protection is filed, which prevents external loads on the breathing membrane, a maximum air flow rate can be achieved despite the compact construction. The protection classes IP66 and IP69k (water jets / steam jet cleaning) have been confirmed by the state testing institute IBExU in Freiburg in their report IB /1. The results allow in practice application in nine out of ten housings. 38 Druckausgleichselemente verhindern Kondenswasserbildung Pressure balance elements prevent the formation of condensation Kondenswasser bildet sich schnell in besonders dichten Gehäusen, weil uftfeuchtigkeit nicht entweichen kann. Schwitzende Gehäuse gibt es vor allem an Orten mit wechselnden Temperaturen. Auch Temperaturschwankungen im Inneren von Gehäusen führen zur Kondenswasserbildung - je öfter, umso schädlicher für die Geräte. Kurzschlüsse können ebenso die Folge sein, wie ein kompletter Geräteausfall durch den Wegfall des IP-Schutzes. Mit einem leicht zu montierenden Element, das mit einer gasdurchlässigen und hodrophoben Spezialmembranfolie ausgestattet ist, kann ein entsprechender Druckausgleich geschaffen werden. Unsere Druckausgleichselemente (DAE) passen den Innendruck geschlossener, elektronischer und elektrotechnischer Bauteile dem Umgebungsdruck an und reduzieren so Ihre Kosten für komplizierte Gehäusetechniken und aufwendige Dichtungen - auch Wartungskosten werden erheblich minimiert. Zuverlässigkeit und Image Ihres Produktes werden entsprechend gesteigert. Druckausgleichselemente bieten wir jeweils aus Polyamid und aus Edelstahl an, um für beide Gehäusearten das Problem Kondenswasser zu lösen. Condensation forms rapidly in particularly airtight enclosures because humidity cannot escape. Sweating in enclosures occurs primarily in locations with changing temperatures. Temperature fluctuations in the interior of enclosures also lead to the formation of condensation. The more often it occurs, the more damage it does to the equipment. This may also result in short circuits, or equally in the complete failure of a device as a result of the loss of the insulation protection provided by the enclosure. It is possible to achieve appropriate pressure equalisation with an easily fitted element equipped with a special, gas-permeable, hydrophobic film membrane. Our pressure balance elements (PBE) adjust the interior pressure of enclosed electronic and electrical components to the ambient pressure, and thus reduce the cost to you complicated enclosures and expensive seals. Maintenance costs are also considerably minimised. The reliability and image of your product are correspondingly improved. 70 EMV Kabelverschraubungen Euro - Top mit drehbarem Kontaktelement Elektromagnetischer Smog unter diesem Begriff sammeln sich alle hochfrequenten elektromagnetischen Störfelder, die den Menschen und seine heute hochsensiblen Anlagen stören können. Im industriellen Bereich steht dafür stellvertretend der Begriff EMV, Elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit. Schon die Wortwahl allein weist auf eine Problematik hin ähnlich der Verträglichkeit von Medikamenten für Mensch und Tier. Investitionen für Maschinen und Anlagen müssen sich heute vor allem durch ihre hohe Produktivität rechtfertigen. Produktivität wird durch hohe Verfahrensgeschwindig-keit, Präzision und wenig Ausfallzeiten maximiert. Dazu sind einerseits eine Vielzahl von Mess- und Steuersignalen nötig, die u.a. den Zustand der Anlage richtig erkennen und steuern und andererseits große elektrische eistungen für die Stellglieder der Anlage. Dies stellt auf den ersten Blick zunächst noch keine EMV-Problematik dar, wären da nicht die steilen Signalflanken und die thyristorgesteuerten hohen elektrischen Ströme. Beides führt zu hochfrequenten elektromagnetischen Signalen über einen weiten Frequenzbereich von wenigen Hertz (Hz) bis hin zu mehreren Gigahertz (GHz). Das schnelle und präzise Anfahren einer definierten Position mittels eines elektrischen Stellmotors mit hohen Beschleunigungs- und Verzögerungswerten führt zu einem Burst von elektromagnetischen Wellen. Dieser Burst kann die Mess- und Steuersignale stören, die nur kleine Spannungsamplituden aufweisen. Dass dies immer wieder und vermehrt vorkommt, wissen die Praktiker unter uns nur zu gut. Welche Maßnahmen kann man gegen diese elektromagnetischen Störungen treffen? Zunächst wird die empfindliche Elektronik in Metallschränke und gehäuse eingebaut. Natürlich wird eine Abschirmung auch durch metallisierte Kunststoffgehäuse erreicht. Damit wird ein Faradayscher Käfig aufgebaut, der Störungen von außen abhält und Signale von der Elektronik im Gehäuse selbst abschirmt. Damit wäre das Problem gelöst, bräuchten wir keinen Zugang zur Elektronik selbst. Dies geschieht über Signalgeber- und Steuerleitungen. Auch diese sollten heute bestens abgeschirmt sein: minimal mit einem Schirmgeflecht mit hohem Bedeckungsgrad oder noch besser mit einer zusätzlichen Schirmfolie. Steuerleitungen dieser Art für alle gängigen Bussysteme sind auf dem Markt erhältlich. Mit diesen zwei Maßnahmen sind die Grundlagen für eine störfreie Funktion des System zunächst gelegt. Steuer- und Versorgungsleitungen müssen aber in die Gehäuse und Schränke eingeführt werden und an dieser Stelle wird die Abschirmung des Gesamtsystems oft vernachlässigt. Hier kommen nun unsere EMV-Kabelverschraubungen der Serie Euro-Top EMV zum Einsatz (siehe Foto). Die Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung stellt bei der Einführung eines geschirmten Kabels in ein Gehäuse oder einen Schaltschrank eine niederohmige Verbindung zwischen Kabelschirm und Gehäuse/Schrankwand her. Gleichzeitig wird eine Abdichtung mit Schutzart IP 68 erreicht und eine Zugentlastung des Kabels gemäß EN Kategorie A gewährleistet. Durch den Einsatz werden damit gleichzeitig drei Funktionen erreicht: 1) elektromagnetische Abschirmung mit hoher Dämpfung 2) Abdichtung nach IP 68 3) Zugentlastung nach EN Kategorie A Bei der Entwicklung der Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung wurde neben den technischen Eigenschaften sehr großer Wert auf die Montagefreundlichkeit gelegt. Die einzelnen Eigenschaften der Verschraubung werden im Folgenden diskutiert. Montagefreundlichkeit Die Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung ermöglicht eine einfache Montage, die sich kaum vom Anbringen einer normalen Messingverschraubung unterscheidet. Sie weist entscheidende Vorteile gegenüber den bisher auf dem Markt existierenden EMV-Verschraubungen auf. Das patentierte Kontaktsystem innerhalb der Verschraubung ist zunächst geöffnet und erlaubt damit während der Montage des eingeführten Kabels alle notwendigen Freiheitsgrade: so kann das Kabel durch die speziell geformten Kontaktelemente leicht und ohne Gefahr der Beschädigung des Kabelschirms innerhalb der Euro-Top vor und zurück geschoben werden. Dies ist besonders vorteilhaft während des Anschließens der einzelnen Kabeladern. Ebenso leicht kann das Kabel innerhalb der Euro-Top gedreht werden, ohne das Schirmgeflecht des Kabels zu beschädigen wichtig bei der Montage von Steckverbindern. Die einzigartige Mechanik des integrierten Kontaktsystems in der Euro-Top erlaubt diese vollständige Bewegungsfreiheit, ohne Gefahr zu laufen, den Kabelschirm zu beschädigen. Dieser Montagezustand ist im nebenstehenden Bild zu sehen. Erst mit der Befestigung der Hutmutter wird das Kabel in der Verschraubung fixiert und zugleich ein sicherer niederohmiger Kontakt mit hohem Anpressdruck zwischen Euro-Top und Kabelschirm hergestellt (siehe linkes Bild). Gleichzeitig wird die Schutzart IP 68 und eine Zugentlastung nach EN erreicht. Das durchgeführte Kabel kann mit der bei der Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung angewandten Kontaktierung nicht nur am Kabelende kontaktiert werden, sondern auch bei Weiterführung des Kabels innerhalb des Gehäuses. Dazu muss - wie im untenstehenden Bild gezeigt der Kabelmantel nur für ein kurzes Stück innerhalb der Verschraubung entfernt werden. Die leichte Handhabung der Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung erspart viel Zeit und damit wesentliche Montagekosten. 68

71 Abschirmverhalten Möchte man das Abschirmverhalten einer Kabelverschraubung messen, muss immer das Gesamtsystem Kabel Verschraubung Gehäuse betrachtet werden. Während für das Teilsystem Gehäuse die IEC-Norm :2001 als Prüfkriterium herangezogen werden kann, muss man für die Schirmqualität von Kabelverschraubungen in Gehäusen auf eine Norm aus der Wehrtechnik zurückgreifen: nach den Prüfvorschriften der VG Teil 40 (eigentlich Messverfahren für geschirmte Steckverbinder) wird die Schirmdämpfung des Systems nach der Triaxialmethode gemessen. Triaxialmethode deshalb, weil das Schirmverhalten der geschirmten eitung mit angeschlossener Verschraubung in einem geschlossenen Messrohr betrachtet wird, wir also ein Koaxialkabel im Koaxialkabel vorfinden. Die Messmethode beruht auf einer Relativmessung, d.h. man betrachtet den Einfluß der Verschraubung auf die proprietären Schirmeigenschaften der eingesetzten eitung über einen weiten Frequenzbereich von z.b. 10 Hz bis 100 MHz. Durch den Einsatz der Verschraubung darf es keine signifikante Verschlechterung der Schirmdämpfung und Kopplungswiderstandswerte des Gesamtsystems geben. Damit wird auch sofort der Nachteil dieser Methode offensichtlich: die absoluten Messwerte sind im wesentlichen von der Schirmqualität des verwendeten Kabels abhängig. Die Messergebnisse der Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung sind in der untenstehenden Abbildung dargestellt. Das Diagramm zeigt den Frequenzgang von 10 khz bis 100 MHz, gemessen vom akkreditierten Prüflabor des VDE. Es ist gut zu erkennen, dass beide Kurven fast identisch sind und erst bei sehr hohen Frequenzen eine leichte Abweichung auftritt. Aus der Schirmdämpfung in Abhängigkeit der Frequenz kann direkt der Kopplungswiderstand in [Ohm/m] berechnet werden. Diese Größe ist für den Praktiker wesentlich hilfreicher, besagt sie doch, wie groß der elektrische Widerstand zwischen Kabel und Gehäuse in Abhängigkeit der Frequenz ist: je geringer der Widerstand, desto besser wird eine vorhandene adung auf dem Kabelschirm über das Gehäuse abgeleitet. Eine niederohmige Ankopplung über den gesamten Frequenzbereich sorgt also dafür, dass durch elektromagnetische Felder induzierte adungen auf dem Kabelschirm keinen Schaden am System anrichten können. Die im Diagramm gezeigten Dämpfungswerte von 50dB bis 90dB entsprechen Dämpfungen um den Faktor 300 bei hohen Frequenzen bis zum Faktor bei niedrigen Frequenzen. Von unabhängigen Prüflabors durchgeführte Vergleichsmessungen der Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung mit anderen Verschraubungen, die arbeitsintensive Methoden der Schirmauflegung benutzen, zeigten, dass die Abschirmqualität identisch ist, d.h., dass mit der Euro-Top gleiche oder sogar bessere Abschirmwerte erreicht werden und dies mit wesentlich weniger Installationsaufwand. Neben der hohen Schirmdämpfung weist die Euro-Top weitere hervorragende elektrische Eigenschaften auf. Die Dimensionierung der Kontaktelemente zusammen mit der niederohmigen Kontaktierung erlauben es, hohe elektrische Ströme im DC- und niedrigen AC-Bereich (50 Hz) abzuleiten. Damit können Erdpotenzialdifferenzen ausgeglichen werden und die Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung auch als Erdungsverschraubung eingesetzt werden. Strombelastbarkeitsmessungen (Derating-Kurven) wurden bis zu Stromstärken von 150 A durchgeführt. Dabei wird die Temperaturerhöhung an den Kontaktelementen der Verschraubung über der Stormstärke gemessen. Diese Temperaturerhöhung innerhalb der Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung bewegte sich dabei bis zu den höchsten angewendeten Stromstärken innerhalb der üblichen Anwendungstemperatur der Verschraubung. Dies weist auf einen sehr guten, niederohmigen Kontakt zwischen Schirmgeflecht des Kabels und der Euro-Top hin. Mechanische Eigenschaften Neben der Schutzklasse IP 68 über den gesamten angegebenen Klemmbereich erfüllt die Euro-Top EMV Verschraubung auch die Zugentlastung des eingeführten Kabels nach EN , Kategorie A. Sie übersteht in montiertem Zustand Vibrationstests mit Krafteinwirkungen bis zur dreifachen Erdbeschleunigung und einer Amplitude von 7,5mm über mehrere Stunden, ohne ihre mechanischen und elektromagnetischen Eigenschaften zu verlieren. 72 EMC cable glands Euro - Top with pivoted contact system Electromagnetic smog this umbrella term includes all high-frequency electro-magnetic fields of interference which can impact on people and on today s highly-sensitive equipment. In the industrial sector, this concept is represented by the term EMC, or electro-magnetic compatibility. The problems surrounding this issue are even reflected in the choice of words - similar to the compatibility of medication with people and animals. Nowadays, investments in plant and machinery must primarily be justified by high productivity. Productivity is maximised by high process speeds, precision and a low level of stoppages. This requires (on the one hand) a wide range of measuring and control signals which, among other things, correctly detect and control the state of the plant and (on the other hand) significant power outputs for the plant s actuators. At first glance, this would not seem to constitute an EMC issue were it not for the steep impulse edges and the high thyristor-controlled electrical currents. Both result in high-frequency electro-magnetic signals across a wide frequency range from a few Hertz (Hz) to several Gigahertz (GHz). The quick and precise start-up of a specified item, using an electric actuator motor with high acceleration and deceleration values, results in a burst of electromagnetic waves. This burst can interfere with measuring and control signals which have only low voltage amplitudes. Anyone working in the field knows only too well that this is a recurring and increasing problem. What steps can one take to prevent these electro-magnetic interferences? First, one ensures that sensitive electronics are installed in metal cabinets and housings. Of course, one can also shield them using a metallised plastic housing. This involves developing a Faraday cage which externally blocks interferences, while also shielding signals from the electronics contained in the housing itself. That would solve the problem, if we did not require access to the electronics themselves. This access is obtained via signal generators and control lines. Nowadays, these should preferably also be shielded: at a minimum, using a woven shield with a high coverage level, or (even better) using a membrane shield. Control lines of this type are available on the market for all common bus systems. These two measures lay the initial foundations for interference-free functioning of the system. However, control and supply lines must be fed into the housing and cabinets and it is at this point that the need to shield the system as a whole is often lost sight of. This is where our Euro-Top EMC series of cable screw connections comes into play (see photo). When feeding a shielded cable into a housing or switch cabinet, the Euro-Top EMC screw connection provides a low impedance connection between the cable shield and the wall of the housing/ cabinet. At the same time, a seal is achieved with an IP 68 protection rating, and cable strain relief as specified by EN Category A is ensured. Thus, three functions are performed simultaneously: 1) Electro-magnetic shielding with a high level of attenuation 2) IP 68-rated seal 3) Strain relief as specified by EN , Category A When developing the Euro-Top EMC screw connection, great attention was paid to easy fitting, as well as to the technical features. The specific features of this screw connection are addressed below: Easy fitting The Euro-Top EMC screw connection facilitates easy fitting. It scarcely differs from fitting a normal brass screw connection. This product offers decisive advantages over the EMC screw connections currently available on the market. The patented contact system within the screw connection is initially opened, offering the requisite room for manoeuvre when fitting the inserted cable: thus, the cable can easily be pushed back and forth through the specially shaped contact elements without any risk of damaging the cable shield within the Euro-Top. This is especially useful when connecting the individual cable conductors. It is just as easy to rotate the cable within the Euro-Top without damaging the cable s woven shield an important factor when fitting plug connectors. The unique mechanics within the Euro-Top s integrated contact system allow this complete freedom of movement without running any risk of damaging the cable shield. This fitting state is illustrated in the picture to the right. The cable is only fixed within the screw connection once the cap nut has been mounted, simultaneously establishing a secure low impedance contact, with a high level of contact pressure, between the Euro-Top and the cable shield (see picture on the left). At the same time, the IP 68 protection rating is achieved, together with the strain relief specified by EN Using the contact system within the Euro-Top screw connection, the conducted cable can be contacted not just at the end of the cable, but also when the cable is fed further into the housing. As illustrated below, this only requires a short piece of the cable sheath to be removed within the screw connection. The easy handling of the Euro-Top EMC screw connection saves a lot of time thus significantly reducing fitting costs 70

73 Shielding behaviour In order to measure the shielding behaviour of a cable screw connection, one must always consider the entire system, comprising the cable, screw connection and housing. While the IEC Standard :2001 can be used as a test criterion for the housing sub-system, one must resort to a military engineering standard to assess the shield quality of cable screw connections within housings. According to the test regulations in VG Part 40 (these are actually measuring procedures for shielded plug connectors), the system s shield attenuation is measured using the triaxial method. Why the triaxial method? Because the shield behaviour of the shielded line, with a connected screw connection, is observed within a closed measuring tube thus we have a coaxial cable within a coaxial cable. This measuring method is based on a relative measurement. This means that one observes the impact of the screw connection on the proprietary shield features of the line used across a wide frequency range, for example from 10 Hz to 100 MHz. The use of the screw connection must not result in any significant deterioration of the shield attenuation and interaction impedance values of the system as a whole. The disadvantage of this method thus also quickly becomes apparent: the absolute measurement values depend largely on the shield quality of the cable used. The measuring results of the Euro-Top EMC screw connection are illustrated below. The diagram shows the frequency course from 10 KHz to 100 MHz, measured by the accredited VDE testing laboratory. One can clearly see that the two curves are almost identical, and that a slight deviation only occurs at very high frequencies. The interaction impedance in [ohm/m] can be calculated directly from the shield attenuation related to the frequency. This figure is of far more help to practitioners, since it states the level of the electrical resistance between the cable and the housing in relation to the frequency: the lower the resistance, the better an existing charge on the cable shield is discharged via the housing. A low impedance connection across the entire frequency range thus ensures that charges on the cable shield induced by electro-magnetic fields cannot cause any damage to the system. The attenuation values shown in diagram, ranging from 50 db to 90 db, correspond to attenuations with a factor of 300 in the case of high frequencies, and with a factor of up to 30,000 in the case of low frequencies. Comparative measurements carried out by independent testing laboratories, comparing the Euro-Top EMC screw connection with other screw connection which use labour-intensive methods of shield application, show the shield quality achieved is identical. This means that one can achieve the same or even better shield results using the Euro-Top, while incurring significantly lower installation costs. As well as the high shield attenuation level, the Euro-Top has other superb electrical features. Thanks to the dimensioning of the contact elements, together with the low impedance contact system, high electric currents in the DC and low AC range (50 Hz) can be discharged. This can compensate for earth potential differences, allowing the Euro-Top EMC screw connection to also be used as an earthing screw connection. Electric loading measurements (de-rating curves) were carried out up to current strengths of 150 A. In this regard, the temperature rise in respect of the screw connection s contact elements was measured via the current strength. The temperature rise within the Euro-Top EMC screw connection was found to range within the normal application temperature of the screw connection up to the highest current strengths used. This indicates a very good low impedance contact between the cable s woven shield and the Euro-Top. Mechanical features Not only does the Euro-Top EMC screw connection have an IP 68 protection rating across the entire clamping range it also meets the strain relief requirements in respect of the conducted cable specified in EN , Category A. When fitted, it passes vibration tests with force effects of up to three times the acceleration due to gravity, and an amplitude of 7.5 mm, without diminishing its mechanical and electro-magnetic attributes. By the same token, shock tests were carried out on the Euro-Top EMC screw connection in its fitted state with up to 20 times the acceleration due to gravity, without any function impairment or damage occurring.. The nickel-plated brass body of the screw connection meets most environmental requirements.
