3 1 Allgemeines Mit einem Schnittstellenkonverter können zwischen verschiedenen Geräten mit unterschiedlichen seriellen Schnittstellen Daten ausgetauscht werden. Diese transferierten Daten werden z.b. zur Steuerung einzelner Geräte benutzt. Abhängig von der Art, Verbindung, Anzahl und/oder Entfernung der zu steuernden Geräte werden meist RS- 232, RS-422 oder RS-485 Schnittstellen in die einzelnen Geräte implementiert. Diese RS (Recommended Standard)-Schnittstellen unterscheiden sich u.a. in der Übertragungsart und in den möglichen Strecken, über die die Daten übertragen werden können. Am gebräuchlichsten sind die RS-232 (z.b. am PC) für Punkt-zu-Punkt-Verbindungen und die RS-485 Schnittstellen (z.b. an den GEUTEBRÜCK-Geräten ViCros III und VS-40) für Busstrukturen. Die RS-232 Schnittstelle ist eine Vollduplex (engl. Full Duplex) -Schnittstelle, d.h. zur gleichen Zeit können Daten in beide Richtungen (in das Gerät/aus dem Gerät) übertragen werden. Dazu werden zwei unabhängige Signalleitungen verwendet, eine zum Senden und eine zum Empfangen der Daten. Die RS-485 Schnittstelle kann als Halbduplex (engl. Half Duplex) oder als Vollduplex (Full Duplex) Schnittstelle realisiert werden, die nur über eine oder über zwei Signalleitungen verfügt. Je nachdem wie die RS-485 arbeitet, muss die Verbindung zu einem Gerät mit einer RS-232 Schnittstelle entweder im Full- oder im Half Duplex Mode hergestellt werden. Der G85/ICF beherrscht beide Betriebsarten. 2 Beschreibung G85/ICF Der Schnittstellenkonverter G85/ICF (Interface Converter Full Duplex und Half Duplex) wandelt eine RS-232 Schnittstelle ohne Protokollkonvertierung in eine RS-485 Schnittstelle um. Die beiden Schnittstellen werden galvanisch voneinander getrennt. Im Vollduplex-Modus werden zwei Adernpaare benötigt, wobei auf dem einen gesendet und auf dem anderen empfangen wird. Dieser Modus wird z. B. im Zusammenhang mit dem GEUTEBRÜCK-System ViCros III benötigt. Im Halbduplex-Modus wird nur ein Adernpaar benötigt, auf dem abwechselnd gesendet und empfangen wird. Dieser Modus wird z. B. im Zusammenhang mit dem GEUTEBRÜCK-System VS-40 benötigt. 4 3 Anschluss Der G85/ICF besitzt eine RS-232 Schnittstelle und eine RS-485 Schnittstelle, wobei die RS-485 an zwei verschiedenen Buchsen herausgeführt ist. 3.1 Belegung der RS-232 Buchse (DCE Standardbelegung) Die mit * gekennzeichneten Anschlüsse sind intern miteinander verbunden. 5 3.3 Einstellen der Betriebsart Halbduplex-Modus (Half Duplex Mode) Steckbrücke FDx / HDx auf HDx zwei Steckbrücken FDx/Open / 120 Ohm 120 Ohm: Wenn der G85/ICF das letzte Gerät an einem RS-485 Bus ist. FDx/Open: Wenn der G85/ICF nicht das letzte Gerät an einem RS-485 Bus ist Vollduplex-Modus (Full Duplex Mode) Alle drei Steckbrücken auf FDx bzw. FDx/Open. 3.4 Stromversorgung Die Stromversorgung erfolgt normalerweise über die Kleinspannungsbuchse, z. B. mit einem Steckernetzteil 8 bis 12V DC, bei dem der innere Stift positiv ist. Sie ist mit der RS-232 Seite galvanisch verbunden und von der RS-485 Seite getrennt. Alternativ kann die Stromversorgung direkt mit 5V DC über die RS-485 Buchse erfolgen. Auch diese Anschlüsse sind mit der RS-232 Seite galvanisch verbunden und von der RS-485 Seite getrennt, obwohl sie auf den RS-485 Buchsen herausgeführt sind. Bei Geräten, die über eine lange RS-485 Leitung angeschlossen werden müssen, wird allein wegen der Leitungslänge eine separate Stromversorgung für den G85/ICF benötigt. Die Schnittstellen sind dadurch galvanisch getrennt, wie das bei langen Leitungen häufig erforderlich ist. Bei Geräten, die über eine kurze RS-485 Leitung angeschlossen werden können, weil sie z. B. im gleichen Raum stehen, kann die Stromversorgung aus dem Empfänger erfolgen. Die Schnittstellen sind dann nicht mehr galvanisch getrennt, was aber bei kurzen Leitungen immer akzeptabel ist. Der G85/ICF hat DCE-Beschaltung (Data Communication Equipment) wie ein Modem, weshalb ein 1:1- Kabel verwendet werden muss. 4.2 Anmerkung zum Betrieb mit einem VS-40/BGT Der G85/ICF kann die Funktion vom eingebauten Schnittstellenkonverter im VS-40/BGT übernehmen. Während bei einer direkten RS-232 Anbindung des PCs an den VS-40/BGT eine Leitungslänge von max. 15 m zulässig ist, erlaubt die Verwendung des G85/ICF auch größere Entfernungen von bis zu 1200 m Geringe Entfernungen bis zu 15 m Verbindungen bis zu 15 m direkt über RS-232 Kabel herstellen. Das RS-232 Kabel zwischen PC und VS-40/BGT muss ein Nullmodemkabel sein, während zwischen PC und G85/ICF ein 1:1 Verlängerungskabel benötigt wird. Der G85/ICF wird nicht benötigt Große Entfernungen ab 15 m bis 1200 m Für den Betrieb mit einem VS-40-System muss der G85/ICF in die Betriebsart Half-Duplex geschaltet werden. Die RS-485 Verbindung erfolgt mit einem zweipoligen, abgeschirmten Kabel über die Sub-D- Buchse, die eine zum VS-40/BGT passende Anschlussbelegung aufweist. Beide RS-485 Seiten werden mit 120 Ohm abgeschlossen. Laut RS-485 Spezifikationen sind Entfernungen mit max m zulässig. Wir empfehlen, bei größeren Distanzen ein Kabel mit mindestens 0,4 mm² Querschnitt zu verwenden. In der Regel werden damit sicherlich auch deutlich größere Strecken problemlos überbrückt werden können. Liefermöglichkeit und technische Änderungen vorbehalten. 5/13

7 4.3 Anmerkung zum Betrieb mit einem ViCros III-System Für den Betrieb eines ViCros III-Systems an einem PC wird immer ein G85/ICF benötigt Geringe Entfernungen bis zu 15 m Bei geringer Entfernung zwischen G85/ICF und ViCros III-System (z. B. im gleichen Raum oder im Nachbarraum) kann die Stromversorgung des G85/ICF aus der VX3/OT16-Karte erfolgen. In diesem Fall wird ein abgeschirmtes, 8-poliges RJ-45 Kabel benötigt, z.b. ein Ethernet-Kabel Große Entfernungen ab 15 m bis 1200 m Bei größeren Entfernungen zwischen dem G85/ICF und ViCros III-System (z. B. zwischen verschiedenen Gebäuden) muss der G85/ICF eine eigene Stromversorgung (Steckernetzteil) bekommen. In diesem Fall wird ein 4-poliges RJ-45 Kabel eingesetzt; die äußeren Adern dürfen nicht beschaltet sein! In dieser Betriebsart sind PC und ViCros III-System durch den G85/ICF galvanisch voneinander getrennt. Liefermöglichkeit und technische Änderungen vorbehalten. 6/13

8 1 General With an interface converter data can be exchanged between different devices with different serial interfaces. These transferred data can be used for example for controlling individual devices. Depending on the type, connection, number and/or distance of the devices to be controlled, RS-232, RS- 422 or RS-485 interfaces are implemented in most cases in the individual devices. These RS (Recommended Standard) interfaces differ for example in the type of transfer and the possible routes via which the data can be transferred. Most commonly used is the RS-232 interface (e.g. for the PC) for point-to-point connections and the RS-485 interface (e.g. for the GEUTEBRÜCK devices ViCros III and VS-40) for bus structures. The RS-232 interface is a full duplex interface, that means that data can be transferred in both directions (to the device/from the device) at the same time. For this purpose two independent signal wires are used, one for sending and one for receiving the data. The RS-485 interface can be realized as half duplex or as full duplex interface, which only consists of one or two signal wires. Depending on how the RS-485 works, the connection to a device with an RS-232 interface has to be established either in full or half duplex mode. The G85/ICF works with both modes of operation. 2 Description of the G85/ICF The interface converter G85/ICF (Interface Converter Full Duplex and Half Duplex) transforms an RS-232 interface without protocol conversion into an RS-485 interface. The two interfaces are de-coupled galvanically. In full duplex mode two wire pairs are required, one is for sending and one for receiving. This mode is required for example in connection with the GEUTEBRÜCK system ViCros III. In half duplex mode only one wire pair is required, which is used alternately for sending and receiving. This mode is required for example in connection with the GEUTEBRÜCK system VS-40. 9 3 Connection The G85/ICF has an RS-232 interface and an RS-485 interface, whereas the RS-485 leads through to two different sockets. 3.1 Configuration of the RS-232 Socket (DCE Standard Connection) The connections marked by a * are connected internally with each other. FDx/Open: When the G85/ICF is not the last device at the RS-485 bus Full Duplex Mode All three jumpers on FDx and FDx/Open respectively. 3.4 Power Supply The power supply normally takes place via the low voltage socket, e.g. with a connector mains unit 8 to 12V DC, in which the internal pin is positive. It is connected to the RS-232 side galvanically and de-coupled from the RS-485 side. Alternatively, the power supply can take place directly with 5V DC via the RS-485 socket. These connectors are also connected to the RS-232 side galvanically and de-coupled from the RS-485 side, although they lead through to the RS-485 sockets. For devices which have to be connected via a long RS-485 line, a separate power supply is required for the G85/ICF due to the line length. For this reason the interfaces are de-coupled galvanically, like is often the case with long lines. For devices which can be connected via a short RS-485 line, for example because they are located in the same room, the power supply can take place from the receiver. While for a direct RS-232 connection between the PC and the VS-40/BGT a maximum line length of 15 m is allowed, the use of the G85/ICF allows longer distances of up to 1,200 m Short Distances of up to 15 m Establish connections of up to 15 m directly via an RS-232 cable. The RS-232 cable between PC and VS-40/BGT must be a zero modem cable, while a 1:1 extension lead is required between the PC and the G85/ICF. The G85/ICF is not required Long Distances from 15 m to 1,200 m For operation with a VS-40 system the G85/ICF has to be switched to the half duplex mode of operation. The RS-485 connection is carried out with a two-wire, screened cable via the Sub-D socket, which provides a connection suitable for the VS-40/BGT. Both RS-485 sides are terminated at 120 Ohm. According to RS-485 specifications, distances of up to 1200 m are allowed. For longer distances the use of a cable with at least 0,4 mm² diameter is recommended. 12 4.3 Notes on the Operation with a ViCros III System For the operation of a ViCros III system on a PC a G85/ICF is always required Short Distances of up to 15 m For short distances between the G85/ICF and thr ViCros III system (e.g. in the same room or in an adjoining room) the power supply of the G85/ICF can take place from the VX3/OT16 card. In this case a screened, 8-wire RJ-45 cable is required, e.g. an Ethernet cable Large Distances from 15 m to 1200 m For larger distances between the G85/ICF and the ViCros III system (e.g. between different buildings) the G85/ICF requires its own power supply (connector mains unit). In this case a 4-wire RJ-45 cable is used; the external wires are not to be connected! In this mode of operation the PC and ViCros III system are de-coupled galvanically by the G85/ICF.
