This product data sheet applies also to organic mountain pine oil. The product corresponds then to the requirements of regulation (EC) no. 834/2007 in conjunction with regulation (EC) no. 889/2008 and regulation (EC) no. 1235/2008. Herstellungsverfahren Das ätherische Latschenkieferöl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation der Nadeln der Latschenkiefer (Pinus mugo) gewonnen. Dabei dient heißer Wasserdampf als Trägerstoff für die leicht flüchtigen organischen Komponenten der getrockneten oder frischen Nadeln. Durch die Nicht-Mischbarkeit der organischen Bestandteile des ätherischen Öles und des Wassers findet beim Abkühlen eine spontane Phasentrennung statt, so dass das reine ätherische Öl abgeschieden werden kann. Die Ausbeute beträgt bis zu 1%. [1,2] Manufacturing method The essential mountain pine oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the needles of the mountain pine (Pinus mugo). Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic compounds of the dried or fresh needles. Due to the non miscibility of the organic compounds with water, the phases readily separate upon cooling and the essential oil can be easily separated. The yield is up to 1%. [1,2] Botanischer Ursprung des Latschenkieferöls Die Spezies Latschenkiefer (Pinus mugo mugo) ist eine Unterart der Bergkiefer (Pinus mugo) die zur Gattung der Kiefern (Pinus) gehört. Die Kiefern gehören zur Unterfamilie Pinoideae in der Familie der Kieferngewächse (Pinaceae) in der Ordnung der Koniferen (Coniferales). Die Latschenkiefer wird auch als Latsche, Bergföhre, Legföhre, Legkiefer oder Krüppelkiefer bezeichnet. Hauptsächlich findet man die Latschenkiefer in den Pyrenäen, Alpen, Erzgebirge, Karpaten und auf dem Balkan. Dabei bevorzugt sie Höhenlagen zwischen 1000 und 2800 Metern. Die Latschenkiefer wächst strauchartig und wird zwischen einem und drei Metern hoch. Der Stamm liegt meist am Boden und die Äste wachsen krumm und bilden häufig ein Geflecht. Die dunkelgrünen, spitzen Nadeln stehen paarweise an den Kurztrieben und werden ca. 5 cm lang. Als einhäusig getrenntgeschlechtliche Pflanze bildet die Latschenkiefer sowohl männliche als auch weibliche Zapfen aus. Die Latschenkiefer blüht zwischen Juni und Juli. Darauf folgt die Reifung der Früchte in den Zapfen, die bis zu drei Jahre dauern kann. [3]

2 Gültig ab/valid from: Seite Nr.:/Page No.: 2 Botanical origin of essential mountain pine oil The species of mountain pine (Pinus mugo mugo) is a subspecies of the mountain pine (Pinus mugo), which belongs to the genus of pine (Pinus). The pines belong to the subfamily Pinoideae in the family Pinaceae in the order of conifers (Coniferales). The mountain pine is also known as dwarf pine or stunted pine. Mainly the mountain pine will be found in the Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians and the Balkans. It prefers altitudes from 1000 to 2800 meters. The mountain pine is growing shrubby and is between one and three meters high. The trunk is usually on the ground and the branches grow crooked, often forming a braid. The dark green, sharp needles stands in pairs on short shoots and are about 5 cm long. As a single-sex monoecious plant, the mountain pine forms both, male and female cones. The mountain pine flowers between June and July. It follows the maturation of the fruit in the pin, which can take up to three years. [3] Charakterisierung Das ätherische Latschenkieferöl ist eine leicht bewegliche, farblose bis gelbliche Flüssigkeit. Es besitzt einen frischen, balsamisch-aromatischen Geruch, mit moschus- und labdanumartigen Noten. Das ätherische Latschenkieferöl löst sich im Vergleich mit anderen ätherischen Ölen weniger gut in Alkohol (1:10, Ethanol), aber gut in Pflanzenölen und anderen ätherischen Ölen. Es ist nahezu unlöslich in Wasser. Hauptbestandteile sind Pinen-Isomere, Limonen, Camphen und Longifolen. [1,2] Characterisation Essential mountain pine oil is a mobile, colourless to light yellow coloured liquid. It has a fresh, balsamicaromatic scent, with musk and labdanum like notes. In comparison with other essential oils, mountain pine oil is less soluble in alcohol (1:10, ethanol), but good soluble in vegetable oils and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Major compounds are pinenes, limonene, camphene and longifolene. [1,2] Verwendung in der Küche Ätherisches Latschenkieferöl wird im Allgemeinen nicht zur Zubereitung von Speisen und Getränken verwendet. [2] Arzneiliche Verwendung, Phytotherapie Die Inhaltsstoffe des ätherischen Latschenkieferöls besitzen eine Reihe von gesundheitlich relevanten Eigenschaften. Bekannt ist das ätherische Latschenkieferöl als Bestandteil von Franzbranntwein, der vor allem in den Alpenregionen als traditionelles Mittel gegen rheumatische Beschwerden eingesetzt wird. Das ätherische Latschenkieferöl wirkt entzündungshemmend bei Gicht und Blasenentzündung und kann als Auflage oder Einreibung auf den betreffenden Bereichen und als Ölbad angewandt

3 Gültig ab/valid from: Seite Nr.:/Page No.: 3 werden. Bei Infektionen der Atemwege wie z. B. Sinusitis (Nasennebenhöhlenentzündung), Bronchitis und Rhinitis (Nasenkatarrh) wirkt es antiseptisch. Als Anwendung werden die Inhalation, Einreibung, Wickel und Ölbäder empfohlen. Das ätherische Latschenkieferöl wirkt zudem litholytisch, d. h. es kann die Auflösung von Gallensteinen gefördert werden. Bei einer Cholezystitis (Gallenblasenentzündung) werden Auflagen und Ölbäder als Anwendung empfohlen. [4] Rezept für eine Mischung zur Linderung von Muskelverspannungen: 7 Tr. Fichtennadelöl 7 Tr. Latschenkieferöl 3 Tr. Douglasienöl 12 Tr. Weißtannenöl 30 ml Mandelöl Die ätherischen Öle werden im Mandelöl gelöst. Mit dieser Mischung werden die betroffenen Stellen mehrmals täglich eingerieben. Medical use, phytotherapy The compounds of essential mountain pine oil have a number of health-related properties. Essential mountain pine oil is known as a part of rubbing alcohol, which is used mainly in the Alpine regions as a traditional remedy for rheumatism. The essential mountain pine oil reduces inflammation in gout and cystitis and can be used as a pad or ointment on the affected areas and as an oil bath. In respiratory infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis and rhinitis (nasal catarrh) it is antiseptic. As an application, inhalation, ointment, winding and oil baths are recommended. The essential mountain pine oil also acts litholytically, therefore the dissolution of gallstones should be encouraged. In a gallbladder inflammation pads and oil baths are as recommended for application. [4] Recipe for a mixture to alleviate muscle tension: 7 drops pine needle oil 7 drops mountain pine oil 3 drops douglas oil 12 drops white pine oil 30 ml almond oil The essential oils are dissolved in almond oil. With this mixture the affected areas are rubbed several times daily. Aromatherapie In der Aromatherapie wird ätherisches Latschenkieferöl aufgrund seiner entspannenden und erfrischenden Eigenschaften eingesetzt. Besonders bei körperlicher und seelischer Müdigkeit wird die Anwendung als Einreibung, Inhalation, Ölbad oder Massageöl empfohlen. [4,5] Aromatherapy In aromatherapy, essential mountain pine oil is greatly appreciated due to its relaxing and refreshing properties. Especially with physical and mental fatigue, application as an ointment, inhaler, oil bath or massage oil is recommended. [4,5]

Vielfach wird es auch zu Parfümierung von Badezusätzen, Hautölen, Seifen und anderen Waschprodukten eingesetzt. Aufgrund seines frischen Duftes ist es auch häufig Bestandteil von Lufterfrischern. Ätherisches Latschenkieferöl eignet sich gut für Mischungen mit Cananga, Cistrose, Lavandin, Myrrhe, Rosenholz, Rose, Rosmarin, Salbei, Wacholder, Weihrauch und Zitrusölen. [2,4] Use in Cosmetic In cosmetics, essential mountain pine oil is mainly used for composition of men s perfumes. In many cases it is also used for perfuming of bath, skin oils, soaps and other laundry products. Due to its fresh fragrance, it is also frequently part of air fresheners. Essential mountain pine oil works well for mixtures with cananga, cistus, lavandin, myrrh, rosewood, rose, rosemary, sage, juniper, frankincense, and citrus oils. [2,4] Anwendungs- und Warnhinweise, Nebenwirkungen Einige der Inhaltstoffe von ätherischem Kiefernadelöl sind als gesundheitlich bedenklich einzustufen. Pinen-Isomere und 3-Caren können bei dermaler Anwendung bei empfindlichen Personen zu Hautreizungen und Ekzemen führen, bei oraler Aufnahme sind Nierenreizungen möglich. Limonen besitzt ein allergenes Potential. In hoher Dosierung kann ätherisches Latschenkieferöl eine Reizwirkung auf Haut und Schleimhaut ausüben und Bronchospasmen verstärken. Nach perkutaner Resorption kann bei chronischen Bronchialerkrankungen die Sekretion eingeschränkt werden. Ätherisches Latschenkieferöl eignet sich nicht für die innere Anwendung bei Schwangeren, Säuglingen und Kleinkindern. After percutaneous absorption in chronic bronchial diseases, secretion may be limited. Essential mountain pine oil is not suitable for internal use in pregnant women, infants and young children.
