1 INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR SCORES SCHALLFELD GOES ELECTRONIC Das Ensemble Schallfeld lädt in Kooperation mit dem Kulturzentrum bei den Minoriten KomponistInnen ein, sich am International Call for Scores Schallfeld goes electronic zu beteiligen. Das Ensemble Schallfeld formierte sich 2011 aus ehemaligen Studierenden des Masterstudiums Performance Practice in Contemporary Music des Klangforum Wien an der Kunstuniversität Graz. Seit 2013 als Verein eingetragen, engagiert sich das Ensemble Schallfeld aktiv im Grazer Musikleben für die Förderung und Vernetzung internationaler zeitgenössischer Musik, insbesondere junger KomponistInnen. Das Ensemble sieht sich als freies Künstlerkollektiv, das in verschiedenen Formationen agiert und Raum für die individuelle Entfaltung seiner Mitglieder lässt: von konventionellen Konzerten und Musiktheaterproduktionen bis hin zur freien Improvisation und Klangkunst. In den letzten Jahrzehnten wurde die Einbeziehung von elektronischen Klängen und Klangbearbeitungsmitteln in der zeitgenössischen Musikszene zur Selbstverständlichkeit. Dennoch existiert in den Konzertprogrammen eine Lücke: neben unzähligen Solo- und Orchesterwerken gibt es kaum Repertoire für Elektronik und Kammerensemble. Genau dahin zielt unser Anliegen: im Rahmen des International Call for Scores Schallfeld goes electronic möchten wir KomponistInnen weltweit einladen, Stücke für unsere Besetzung zu schreiben, um somit neues Repertoire für Ensemble und Elektronik zu kreieren. Dadurch wollen wir auch den Einsatz von Elektronik (sei es Live-Elektronik oder Tonband-Zuspielung) als wesentlichen Bestandteil aktueller Musik unterstreichen. Bedingungen der Ausschreibung: Alle KomponistInnen, die nach 1974 geboren sind, können an der Ausschreibung teilnehmen. Pro TeilnehmerIn darf max. 1 Stück eingereicht werden. Es soll ein Stück für Ensemble (mind. 4 max. 7 Instrumente) plus Elektronik eingereicht werden. (Stücke ohne Elektronik werden nicht berücksichtigt!) Die Dauer soll zwischen 7 und 15 Minuten betragen. Das Stück kann neu für die Ausschreibung komponiert werden oder bereits uraufgeführt sein, allerdings sollen die Stücke nicht älter als 5 Jahre sein. Verfügbare Instrumente: Die Besetzung ist frei, jedoch sind Stücke mit Kontrabass und/oder Saxophon in Kombination mit anderen Instrumenten erwünscht. 2 Violoncello Kontrabass (Fünfsaiter) Klavier Anforderungen (Elektronik) Maximal 8 Lautsprecher Medium: Live-Elektronik und/oder Tonband-Zuspielung Vorhandene Software: Max, PD, SuperCollider Teilnahmekriterien: Die Partitur und der Patch, bzw. der elektronische Part (Tonband) inkl. Dokumentation, aus der die Aufführungssituation hervorgeht, sollen spätestens am eingereicht werden. Sollte der Patch zur Abgabefrist nicht fertig sein, wird eine ausführliche Beschreibung der Elektronik erbeten. Bewerbungen, die die oben genannten Kriterien nicht erfüllen, werden nicht berücksichtigt. Maximale Dateigröße 15MB Auswahlverfahren: Die Stücke werden von einer unabhängigen Jury beurteilt, der neben der Ensemblevertretung von Schallfeld zwei renommierte Experten aus den Bereichen Komposition und Computermusik angehören. Beurteilt werden neben kompositorischen Aspekten auch Qualität und Innovation des elektronischen Parts. Jurymitglieder: Mitglieder des Schallfeld Ensembles Prof. Gerd Kühr, Kunstuniversität Graz Prof. Marko Ciciliani, IEM Graz Die Ergebnisse der Ausschreibung werden spätestens am per und durch die Webseiten: und bekannt gegeben. Preisträger Aus den Einsendungen werden maximal 5 Werke ausgewählt, die in einer Arbeitsphase Ende Mai vom Ensemble einstudiert werden. Die ausgewählten KomponistInnen sind eingeladen, mit dem Ensemble zu arbeiten. (Reise- und Aufenthaltskosten von und nach Graz können leider nicht

3 erstattet werden.) Die ausgewählten Werke werden in einem Preisträgerkonzert am im Minoritensaal Graz im Rahmen eines langen Konzertabends mit Neuer Musik und Elektronik vorgestellt. 4 INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR SCORES 2015 SCHALLFELD GOES ELECTRONIC Ensemble Schallfeld in cooperation with the Kulturzentrum bei den Minoriten invites composers from all nationalities to apply for our International Call for Scores 2015 Schallfeld goes electronic. Since 2013 Schallfeld has been active in Graz and Austria as a young ensemble and platform for the promotion of contemporary music by international composers, mostly of the younger generation. Beyond being a traditional ensemble, Schallfeld is active as a free artists collective, consisting of musicians with different backgrounds and interests. This leads to the great diversity of Schallfeld s activities, ranging from music theatre to sound art, chamber music, improvisation and educational activities. During the last decades, the integration of electronic means of sound production and sound processing has become a normality in contemporary instrumental composition. But apart from solo or full-orchestra works, there is still a limited repertoire for middle-sized chamber ensemble with electronics. This is the gap would like to address: With our International Call for Scores Schallfeld goes electronic we encourage young composers to create and present new repertoire for ensemble and electronics. By doing so, we also want to underline the importance that electronics have gained in our today s music scene. Terms of participation: Composers of all nationalities born in or after 1974 are invited to participate Only one piece may be sent by applicant The piece should be written for a minimum of 4 and maximum of 7 instruments plus electronics The duration of the piece should be between 7 and 15 minutes. The piece can be a new composition, or an already premiered piece (also an adaption of an existing piece) not older than five years. Terms for participation: The score and the patch, or tape, together with a documentation that clearly shows the realization of the electronic part in the performance situation, should be sent not later than April 1 st If the patch is not completed by the time of the deadline the participant must send a detailed description of the patch and the electronics with his/her application. Applications that don't meet the abovementioned conditions will not be accepted. (Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any financial support for travel costs and lodging.) The concert of the selected pieces will take place on June 5 th 2015 during an extended evening with electro-acoustic music in the Großer Minoritensaal in Graz. A professional recording of the concert will be made available to the composers.
