Übung 2 Wie verabschiedet man sich auf Deutsch? How many ways can you think of to say farewell in German? 1. Give students a Placemat template (like the one below) and in groups of 4 ask them to brainstorm how many ways they can think of to say farewell in German. 2. Each person takes a corner and everyone writes their ideas simultaneously. 3. Each person reports back to their group and someone writes their common ideas in the middle. For example, if more than one person writes Tschüss!, then that gets written in the middle. 4. The class then comes back together and each group reports their common words. 5. Übung 4 Wordle A Wordle is formed by writing words associated with a theme. The words begin on different lines and can be written in different directions and colours. Each group can produce a Wordle with farewells in German and in other languages, or words evoked from the painting. Digital Wordles can be created with http://www.wordle.net/ or students can write them on a poster. When using this program, you must use the symbol ~ to join two words, for example bis~später. Revise or teach structure of an informal letter. 2. Revise the importance of gender for Liebe/lieber, dein/deine Lieber Vater, Liebe Mutter, deine Tochter, dein Sohn. 3. Students choose who is writing the letter. They pretend to be the wife, sister, brother or son, mother, father of an uncle, father or brother going to World War One. 4.
