Forming Plurals German plurals are tricky, because there are many different ways of forming a plural, as shown below. This is not a comprehensive list, but it shows most of the plural forms. It is however irregular in a particular, predictable way. It has a pattern of irregularity that occurs in a large group of common verbs, which we shall call the stemchangers. The stem of the verb, as you know, is the part that comes before the en ending of most infinitives in German. With kommen and wohnen, you simply add the regular endings (e st t en t en) to the verb stems komm and wohn and the verb is neatly conjugated. These endings also work for stem-changers, but there is a small change in the stem of these verbs in the second person singular (du) and the third person singular (er/sie/es). For the verb sprechen, the verb stem changes from sprech to sprich for du and er/sie/es, as you can see in the conjugation table below.
