Starting Point About 1.2 million tons of plastic packaging are collected by German households every year. Until now that plastic has been subject to mostly low-grade recycling. An interesting and innovative laser technology has been developed for the fine sorting of plastic. Parties involved in recycling, manufacturing and bottle-filling processes do not confer with each other. Mechanical recycling is ecologically superior to thermal recycling (incineration). 19.10.2015 4 Crude oil is a limited resource. The true vision for an effective mechanical cycle is lacking.

Cooperation Partners Contributions pre-sorted bales of PET-fraction sourced from household collection unique sorting and flake refinement of PET flakes manufacturer of PET bottles from the new material initiator, driver, filler, trustworthy originator and implementer (market launch) of innovation interface to consumers; encourages communication to and with endconsumers and, through its own activities, sensitizes and supports highquality and effective upcycling of plastic packaging as seen in the example of the Recyclate Initiative 19.10.2015 7 as NGO, provides constructive criticism, particularly with regard to the ecological feasibility of the process 7
Further Goals What Dritte is expected Ebene of the packaging of the future? To improve the recyclability of our packaging: Caps/closures have to be removable -> detachable connections Labels have to be removable in flake-wash process -> e.g., use of water-soluble glue Color batches should be avoided or made environmentally friendly -> only transparent bottles 19.10.2015 8 The use of additives should be minimized -> as much as necessary
