My first experience with the practical problems of applying new implant designs was made possible by the support of my former chief, Prof. Dr. B. SPIESSL, head of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Department of Surgery in Basel (Director: Prof. Dr. M. ALLGOWER). My later chief, Prof. Dr. H. M.
