2 Getting off to a good Start in the Citizens Advice Bureau Many things need to be dealt with before you really feel at home in a new city. The Offenbach Citizens Advice Bureau makes things easier. It offers a wide range of services from a single source. You can register your new flat, change your car details or order a residents parking permit. The municipal utility and disposal companies can be contacted here too, and accept registrations. The Citizens Advice Bureau ensures that you can become a fully-fledged citizen of Offenbach in less than 30 minutes. The Citizens Advice Bureau provides its services from Monday to Friday by appointment. Thus unnecessary waiting time, in particular for employed people, can be avoided. Once the all-important formal ities have been dealt with, you can relax and enjoy life in Offenbach. What do you need to bring with you? ID or passport (one adult family member can register the entire family by presenting all their ID papers). Re-registering your car Applying for a resident s parking permit Waste collection EVO informs you on the best tariffs, instalment payments and billing procedures. You can also obtain further information about energy and energy saving here. If you are new to Offenbach and own a car, you must reregister it within one week in the Citizens Advice Bureau. You can reserve licence numbers of your choice online simply by entering the search term Wunschkennzeichen (licence number of choice) at and choosing your desired number. Do you live somewhere central where street parking is chargeable? Residents parking areas have been set up in the centre of Offenbach to make parking easier for residents. Just ask for this service when re-registering your car. ESO Stadtservice GmbH, which belongs to the City Service area of the Stadtwerke Offenbach utilities consortium, is responsible for the disposal of waste in Offenbach. Its Offenbach Waste Management Calendar contains all collecting dates (residual waste, biodegradable waste, paper, yellow bin for recyclable materials) and provides tips for better waste prevention. Tip: If you re in a hurry, you can order the Sperrmüll-Express service for a fee, and the bulky items you want collected will then be picked up within three days. The cost depends on the amount to be collected, but the minimum fee is plus VAT. You can take smaller quantities of bulky refuse parts, electrical appliances and garden waste to the recycling centre in Dieselstraße. Registering for electricity, water, gas, district heating Conveniently for you, your local energy provider EVO Energieversorgung Offenbach AG also have their offices in the Citizens Bureau. You can also register for electricity, gas, district heating and water supply during your visit. What do you need to bring with you? ID or passport name of previous tenant or previous owner or the meter number. Dog registration Dogs can also be registered directly at the Citizens Advice Bureau which will forward the completed forms to the responsible treasury and tax office. 3 What you need to think about after the Move At the Citizens Advice Bureau you have already taken care of the main formalities requested after a move. Fine. But child benefit, telephone connection or cable TV services are handled by other authorities and agencies. Please find below a listing of other important agencies and their responsibilities. Re-registering radio and TV, Telephone connection The Citizens Advice Bureau will also provide you with forms to re-register your radio and television sets. Please send the completed forms to the GEZ (German TV Licensing Office). You can apply for a telephone connection with the Telekom. If you prefer this service from another provider, please remember to notify Telekom. In many cases, your new provider will take care of this notification. Furthermore, the aliens authority accepts undertakings that are frequently required in conjunction with tourist permits. If you draw housing benefits you must immediately notify the previous housing benefit office of your move. And remember to submit a new application with the Offenbach Muni cipal Housing Office (Wohnungsamt) in good time. Simply take the expired document and a current, biometric passport photograph to the Citizens Bureau - we will then deal with the rest for you. To issue a children s passport, the following is required: A current biometric passport photograph the child passports or ID cards of both parents having joint custody. If only one parent appears, the other parent s written consent must be presented. In case of sole custody by one parent, documented evidence must be given (e.g. in the form of a court ruling on custody made in the course of divorce proceedings). Processing time: Passports and ID cards are issued by the Federal Printing Office. This process will take three to four weeks. Please submit your application in good time before your holiday departure. Offenbach s variety is refl ected in its school landscape. It comprises all school forms from primary schools in the vicinity of residential areas, secondary modern schools and schools leading to Mittlere Reife with orientation stage to secondary schools, special needs schools, private schools and vocational schools. Leisure and Culture vhs Self-Study Centre Youth Art School Music School The Self-Study Centre provided by the Volkshochschule provides support for individual further training. By way of computer-based self-study programmes you can learn about various subjects. Teachers provide advice on the selection of programmes and support for students learning plans. 13 Museums Sparda-Bank- Hesse-Stadion Adult Education Centre (vhs) The Klingspor Museum houses one of the most important collections and exhibitions of international 20th / 21st-century book art and calligraphy. It covers the themes typography, calligraphy, illustration, book binding, art books, calendars and posters. At House of Municipal History (Haus der Stadtgeschichte), 10,000 years of history are brought to life. The museum designed by the Offenbach Design Academy shows the city s development from the Isenburg Residency via a manufacturing and factory location to the present-day service centre. The House of Municipal History is also home to the town archives (Stadtarchiv). The German Leather Museum in Offenbach houses three collections under one roof: the Collection for Applied Art with crafts and designs from the Middle Ages to the present, the Ethnological Collection, which focuses on Africa, America and Asia, and the German Shoe Museum, which includes international footwear from four millennia. The Kickers-Fan-Museum is a treasure trove in the history of the Offenbach football club Kickers, established in 1901, which is kept alive with passion and care. Free admission to the club s history is classified chronologically: a collection of streamers, flags and tricots, photographs and trophies from the German supra-regional league and Bundesliga well worth seeing. The Sparda Bank Hesse Stadium belongs to the Events area of the Stadtwerke Offenbach utilities consortium. It is the home ground of OFC, Offenbacher Fußball-Club Kickers, and can seat 20,500 spectators. It was not just designed for football matches, however, but also as a venue for other events, and various rooms and sections of the main stand can be hired for business and private events. It is closely linked with the Offenbach Voluntary Centre (FzOF). Anybody who wishes to perform honorary activities can obtain qualified advice and a variety of suggestions there. In Offenbach there are many ways of getting into the countryside, and they are rarely far away. The Grünring from the Main to the Main links beautifully tended parks and green spaces around the city centre and along the Main embankment. Along the route of industrial culture, many stations recall, above all, the flourishing leather goods industry in Offenbach. If you are athletic and like outdoor climbing high up, you will love the FunForest Abenteuer-Kletterpark (located in the Leonhard-Eißnert-Park). Stretched over a large area, 160 trees are connected by cable ropes and catwalks at heights bet ween five and fifteen metres. One of the fourteen different courses is especially designed for children over three years. The Weather Park located on Buchhügel is a place enjoyed by the whole family. The Weather Park combines recreation and adventure with scientific explanations of meteorological phenomena. Expanding over an area of 20,000 m2, numerous exhibits and graphics explain all aspects and manifestations of weather. Visitors can explore the park on their own or together with a guide. The visitor centre in the Weather Park is both a meeting place and a learning venue. Exhibits, experiments and numerous interactive stations invite you to take an interest in weather. You also learn what the RhineMain Regional Park is and find out about what offers and adventures the countryside in the Rhine-Main region can give its visitors. 17 Getting around Mobility in Offenbach Many important European traffic arteries cross in the Rhine Main Area. The International Airport, the ICE hub Frankfurt or the financial district can be reached in less than half an hour by tube with four different commuter lines or by car via the expressway. The six S-Bahn (tube) stations and more than 280 bus stops guarantee quick connections within the city and to the region. Parking space for 5,000 cars is available around the city. Car-sharing and rental bikes complete the services offered. Public transport Offenbach and the region have an excellent public transport system. The commuter lines S1, S2, S8 and S9 will take you directly from six different commuter stations to the main stations in Frankfurt, Hanau, Wiesbaden or Mainz. There is plenty of parking available downtown in car parks and underground parking. Parking is possible close to the banks of the Main river and only 300 metres away from the city centre. If you own a RMV annual ticket or a RMV job ticket you are entitled to reduced rates to travel fast and conveniently by bus, train and car. More information is available at the RMV- Mobilitätszentrale or online at 9 Health emobil-station QR-Codes In a central location at Offenbacher Marktplatz, the Mobility area of Stadtwerke Offenbach, the city s utilities consortium and RMV together provide 15 electric bicycles and two electric cars for hire. A one-off registration is required at the mobility centre. Registration is free, while the Pedelecs and car fees are based on the time in which they are used. The electronic vehicles here can be used spontaneously or after registering. QR-Codes are printed on all timetables displayed at the stops in the city area. Simply hold your Smartphone in front of the code or photograph the code with your internet-enabled photomobile, and you will be directly provided with the current realtime timetables of the buses that run on that route.
