4 Intermodal transport infrastructure in North West Germany Transport volumes on the roads and the transit traffic through North West Germany strain motorways and roads, are expensive and produce high CO2-emissions. Local infrastructure for intermodal transport are often not used to full capacity, even though good connections are available.
