These spaces provide guidance for the expected length of response. In your answers you will be assessed on how well you: respond critically to the prescribed text analyse how meaning is conveyed demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the prescribed text and prescribed issues communicate information and ideas in comprehensible English Question 1 (15 marks) Read the extract from the short story Die Fernsehshow, then answer the questions in ENGLISH that follow. Da saß sie also und wartete. Sie saß auf einer mit klebrigem, grünem Plastik bezogenen Couch und wartete. In allen vier Ecken des fensterlosen Raumes waren Fernsehapparate montiert, sie liefen ohne Ton, und um das Bild zu sehen, mußte sie den Kopf in den Nacken legen, was sie aber nicht tat, um ihre Frisur nicht zu gefährden. An einer Wand stand ein Kaffee-und-Tee-Automat, der aber nicht funktionierte. In regelmäßigen Abständen stand sie auf, um das nachzuprüfen. Sie hätte viel für eine Tasse Tee gegeben. Auf der anderen Seite hing eine große Uhr, die vernehmlich tickte. Manchmal kam ihr das Ticken unregelmäßig vor wie Herzschläge, aber das war natürlich Einbildung. Das lange Warten machte sie ganz konfus. Sie hatte sich alles ganz anders vorgestellt. Es war Hedwigs Idee gewesen, sich bei der Hermann-Hermann-Show anzumelden. Sie hatten sich beide angemeldet, aber nur Rose war als Kandidatin ausgewählt worden. Es macht mir überhaupt nichts aus, hatte Hedwig gesagt, ehrlich gesagt, ich wäre wahrscheinlich gestorben vor Angst. Du wirst das viel besser machen. Question 1 continues on page 3 2
