Definition of prejudice Definition von Vorurteilen Prejudices are defined as negative evaluation of groups and of individuals because of their group membership. Prejudices are used to legitimise social inequality. Prejudice can be blatant (hot, direct, close) or subtle (cold, indirect, hidden); e.g. anti-semitism Vorurteile werden als negative Bewertung von Gruppen und Personen aufgrund ihrer Gruppenmitgliedschaft definiert. Vorurteile werden dazu benutzt, soziale Ungleichwertigkeit zu legitimieren. Vorurteile können offen (heiß, direkt, nah) oder subtil (kalt, indirekt, versteckt) sein; z.b. Antisemitismus 4
Content of prejudices Inhalt von Vorurteilen They involve e.g. general devaluation of groups stereotypical characterizations over-generalization of actions of some group members double standards when judging a group supposed large differences to one s own group (concerning culture, values, abilities, attitudes). Sie beinhalten z.
